Mathilde Stein's Monster Song is a strange mishmash of the terror in Metallica's Enter Sandman and the sweet solace of Queensryche's Silent Lucidity and here it doesn't quite mix well. But it is a cute way of dealing with the fear of monsters in your bed, the only monsters that aren't real. A young boy complains of such monsters to mom, so mom in her infinite "wisdom", does a little trick psychology by allowing five bed monsters to sleep with him. He doesn't want them, but mom insists since the creatures are harmless and would never hurt a fly. Maybe swallow one whole but not hurt em! After a while though, the boy reverses the psychology by telling the monsters that "maybe" mom needs monsters in her bed since mom is lonely....lol. If only this kid would know these monsters. Sending them to mom's bedroom instead of facing your fears is a cowardly act. Ythink? Three stars Monstersong not quite top 10 material
Actually I thought this was a really fun and quirky story. I just don't understand why the main character has to be a pig, but otherwise, just loved it. The main character calls his mum to help him get rid of some fierce monsters under his bed. And of course she comes to help - but in a very special way, inviting all monsters to stay over, regardless of how mean they look and how bad they behave. The classic theme gets a highly original twist here, and the ending will leave kids cheering for the little pig.
when there are monsters under the bed, the mother invites them to join the little boy in his bed. when his bed gets too crowded, he tells the little monsters about his mother's larger bed and they go running to join her.
