Following their terrifying ordeal as hostages of domestic terrorists, NYPD Detective Gemma Capello is back in the negotiator chair, while Detective Sean Logan, healed from injuries sustained saving Gemma’s life, has resumed leading an A-Team tactical unit—just in time for their next challenge . . . perfect for fans of James Patterson and David Baldacci.

It’s New Year’s Eve, Manhattan is alight with celebration, and Gemma and Logan are hoping for a relatively normal night amid the revelry. But that hope is shattered by a 911 text from a luxury yacht somewhere in busy New York Harbor. Below deck, a college student working aboard is hiding from a hostage taker. The student reports that the crew was ordered to join the guests. Gunshots followed.

The yacht party, hosted by billionaire venture capitalist Lucas Horner, includes local government officials and some of the city’s wealthiest, most influential people. Gemma and her team hypothesize that Horner, an infamously arrogant hustler, has burned someone financially—someone who now wants revenge.

Once the Aviation Unit identifies the yacht and its location, Logan and his team are transported through the brutal winter waters toward Liberty Island. Gemma finally connects with the hostage taker and learns of a cryptocurrency ransom demand—and a chilling execution plan if it’s not fulfilled by midnight. But Horner is refusing to pay. And Gemma senses things aren’t adding up—because beneath the unnerving scenario lies an even more twisted plan, layers of deceit—and a captor with nothing to lose . . .

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Countdown by Sara Driscoll.

Countdown is a police-themed thriller following Gemma, a NYPD Detective. Sara Driscoll builds suspense as the clock ticks down during a hostage negotiation that Gemma is leading. Taking place in the New York Harbor, the team faces some interesting challenges along the way. The investigative elements feel authentic, and each chapter adds another layer of intensity.

Even though I haven’t read the earlier books in the series, I had no trouble jumping into this one. The suspense kept me turning the pages, wondering what would happen next. At times, some scenes felt a bit drawn out in the beginning, but overall it was still a pretty fast read for me.

I give this one a 3.5 star rating because I didn’t get TOTALLY invested until 40% through the book when more action started taking place.

Countdown, by Sara Driscoll, is another excellent addition to her NYPD Hostage Negotiation Team series. In a novel plot twist our hostage negotiator, Gemma Capello, has to deal with not one but two hostage negotiations with different people in different locations on New Year’s Eve. Gemma, and her romantic partner Detective Sean Logan, an NYPD Emergency Services Unit Tactical Team leader and sniper, have to trust each other’s judgement completely as their two units work the case together.

The hostage locations range from the pretentious yacht of a callous billionaire during a glitzy New Year’s Eve party, to aging industrial building rooftops. The hostages range from wealthy, elite New Yorkers to a bartender’s wife and young children. As always, Gemma’s job is to get inside the head and understand the psychological status of the hostage taker, with the goal to end a hostage situation without any loss of life. Her position can be at odds with that of the Tactical Team, who handle the tactical action and focus more on the safety of the hostages than the hostage takers. This disparity challenges the relationship between Gemma and Logan in ways that could potentially be devastating.

This was a fast paced, emotionally charged read that I completed in a day because I couldn’t put it down. It’s an excellent stand alone story, however I’d highly recommend reading the rest of the series to enjoy the multiple character relationships and their evolution.

Sara Driscoll’s Countdown, the fifth installment in the NYPD Negotiators series, delivers a pulse-pounding thriller that perfectly captures the high-stakes tension fans have come to expect from this author. Following the traumatic events of the previous book…where Gemma Capello and Sean Logan endured a harrowing hostage situation themselves…experiencing emotional and physical trauma…both characters are back on duty, still processing their ordeal while diving headfirst into a new crisis on New Year’s Eve.

The setup is gripping from the start: a luxury yacht in New York Harbor becomes the site of a hostage takeover during a glitzy party hosted by an arrogant billionaire venture capitalist Lucas Horner. A desperate 911 text from a college student crew member, hidden below deck, kicks off the chaos, complete with reports of gunshots and forced crew integration with the elite guests. Driscoll wastes no time ramping up the urgency, blending the festive backdrop of Manhattan’s celebrations with the brutal winter waters and the ticking clock toward midnight. The author’s expertly crafted depiction of the freezing temperatures during the ride in the RIB as it hurtles towards the yacht, puts the reader in the craft experiencing those same intense and freezing moments.

What makes Countdown stand out is its layered plot. Gemma, as the skilled negotiator, connects with the hostage taker and uncovers a cryptocurrency (one of the most straightforward explanations of the intricacies of cryptocurrency I have seen) ransom demand tied to a chilling execution plan. Horner’s refusal to pay adds friction, but Gemma’s instincts scream that something deeper is at play…layers of deceit, revenge, and a captor with truly nothing to lose. The twists feel earned, building on the initial premise without relying on cheap shocks. The cryptocurrency angle feels timely and integrated naturally into the motive without overwhelming the story.

The dual perspectives of Gemma in the negotiator’s chair and Logan leading his A-Team tactical unit through icy waters toward Liberty Island create excellent balance. Their professional synergy shines, with subtle undercurrents of their personal connection adding emotional depth…especially after Logan’s recovery from injuries sustained saving Gemma. Driscoll handles the action sequences with precision: the boat approach in harsh conditions, the tactical boarding, and the negotiation back-and-forth all feel authentic and cinematic.

The supporting cast, including the yacht’s high-profile guests (government officials and NYC’s wealthiest elites), adds intrigue and raises the stakes. The pacing is relentless, with short chapters that propel the reader forward, making it hard to put down as the countdown to midnight intensifies…along with tight plotting, realistic procedural elements, and characters who feel like real people under extreme pressure, Ms. Driscoll once again creates another gripping narrative of hostage negotiators.

Countdown is a strong entry in the series, proving that Driscoll continues to elevate the hostage negotiation thriller subgenre. It’s the kind of book that keeps you up past midnight…fitting for a New Year’s Eve story. Highly recommended for anyone who loves fast-paced, intelligent suspense with heart.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

COUNTDOWN by Sara Driscoll is the suspense-riddled, unputdownable story of NYPD Detectives Gemma Capello, hostage negotiator, and Sean Logan, leader of Apprehension Tactical Team (A-Team) Unit 1. After barely surviving their last mission, Gemma and Logan are healed, physically and mentally, and are back, working an intensely dangerous case. While millions are celebrating New Year’s Eve with parties and fireworks, they’ll be handling an extremely difficult hostage situation aboard billionaire Lucas Horner’s luxury yacht, the Salacia.

A 911 call from an unapproved server, the nephew to one of the hired employees for the New Year’s Eve party on the Salacia, alerted them that everyone else on the yacht was being held as hostage by a gunman. They now needed to figure out where the yacht is anchored, who the man with the gun is and what his demands are. It’s up to Gemma to talk the hostage taker down and de-escalate the situation where everyone comes out of it alive. Logan and his crew’s job is to get on the yacht undetected, rescue the young man that called it in before he’s found and be ready to take control of the boat by force if need be because time is ticking away fast with a midnight deadline.

Gemma and Logan had decided to take their relationship slow this time. With their required time off after the last case, they have been enjoying just getting to know one another and spending time together. This case is the first one they’ve worked on together since Logan was injured saving Gemma’s life. Logan’s almost completely healed physical and Gemma has worked through any emotional aspects of the last case and ready to get back to work. Working together will be a test of keeping their emotional attraction out of the equation. They are both confident they can do it.

Is the gunman working alone or is there someone else involved? What’s his driving force? When they find out the reasoning behind the man’s actions, will it make a difference on how things are handled? Is there an accomplice on board? Who is pulling the strings?

COUNTDOWN is a magnificently riveting story that will keep you spellbound as you quickly turn the pages looking for answers alongside the Hostage Negotiation Team hoping for safety for the team and with small undertones of the growing romance between Gemma and Logan. After the first few pages, the desire and need to see where and how this story goes will make it impossible to put down. Sara Driscoll gives us a story of excitement, danger, suspense, teamwork, understanding, romance, patience and mystery. COUNTDOWN is absolutely a FIVE STAR book and I highly recommend it to everyone! While COUNTDOWN is the 5th book in the NYPD Negotiators series, it can most definitely be read as a standalone book.

I received an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

knew within pages that this book was going to ruin my ability to relax for the rest of the day. This novel is published by Kensington Publishing, and I’m so grateful to Sara Driscoll for the gifted copy of this book.

Countdown doesn’t slowly build tension. It detonates it. Set on New Year’s Eve, when Manhattan is already buzzing with chaos and celebration, this story drops Gemma Capello and Sean Logan back into the line of fire after surviving their own traumatic hostage ordeal. From the start, I felt that weight hanging over every page. Gemma is back in the negotiator chair, but she’s changed. Sean is back leading his tactical team, but nothing about him feels untouched. Reading this felt like standing too close to the edge of something sharp, thrilling and deeply uncomfortable in the best possible way.

What I loved most is how the story balances spectacle with intimacy. Yes, there’s a luxury yacht filled with powerful, wealthy guests. Yes, there’s a ticking clock, gunshots, a cryptocurrency ransom demand, and a threat that promises devastation if midnight hits. But the heart of this book lives in the voices over the phone, the pauses between responses, and the moments where Gemma has to crawl inside the mind of someone with nothing left to lose. One line that hit me hard was, “Every word matters when a life hangs on the other end,” and that’s exactly how this book reads. Every scene feels deliberate. Every chapter tightens the screws.

Gemma continues to be one of my favorite thriller protagonists because she’s brilliant without being invincible. She doubts herself. She feels fear. She carries the emotional residue of past cases, and this one pushes every bruise. Sean feels more layered here too. Watching them navigate their relationship while working the same high-stakes crisis added an emotional intensity that made my chest ache. There were moments I wanted to yell at both of them, which is usually how I know I’m fully invested.

This was easily a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me. I devoured it in a single sitting, promising myself just one more chapter until suddenly it was much later than I planned. It works as a standalone, but readers who have followed the series will appreciate how much history and growth is woven into every interaction.

If you love fast-paced thrillers that blend psychological tension with real emotional stakes, if you enjoy hostage negotiation stories where talking can be just as dangerous as pulling a trigger, this book is absolutely for you. Countdown doesn’t just keep you turning pages. It makes you feel the pressure of every ticking second.

Did anyone else close this book feeling wrung out, impressed, and already bracing for whatever crisis Gemma and Sean face next?

Countdown is set on New Year’s Eve in Manhattan. While the city celebrates, NYPD hostage negotiator Gemma Capello and tactical leader Sean Logan are called to a high-stakes crisis when a 911 text alerts the team to a hostage situation aboard the Salacia, a luxury yacht in New York Harbor owned by billionaire venture capitalist Lucas Horner. If the hostage-taker doesn't receive a 50 million dollar ransom in cryptocurrency by midnight, guests on the yacht will be shot and killed one every minute, until he IS paid. However, the billionaire owner refuses to pay.

I absolutely love this author's FBI K-9 series, and I had read that Countdown could be read as a standalone, so I was thrilled when I was able to get an ARC. The good news is that Countdown CAN be read as a standalone. The not-so-good news is that I didn't like this book nearly as much as I do the FBI K-9 series. I felt my eyes starting to cross as every tiny move made by the team preparing to rescue the hostages was explained in minute detail. However, I read a review that said a third of the way in, the action started, and that it was fantastic! So, I kept reading and found that to be true. I was enthralled when things started happening, as opposed to just being explained.

THEN I got to a second part filled with minute explanations again. (My brain cried "Noooo!") It was followed by a second part with action, which I appreciated. Ms. Driscoll is so talented at writing suspenseful action! It boggles my mind to think of the amount of investigation she had to do in order to have accurately written all of that detail. However! Countdown has fabulous reviews, so if anyone needs me, I'll be over on Outlier Island, rereading my FBI K-9 books...

Thank you, #Kensington, for providing this book for consideration and review via #NetGalley. All opinions are my own. Countdown has an expected publication date of April 28, 2026.

Countdown is a tense, fast‑moving thriller that drops you straight into the heart of New York City on New Year’s Eve—when the celebrations are loud, the stakes are sky‑high, and danger slips in unnoticed beneath the glitter. Sara Driscoll delivers a gripping blend of tactical action, psychological tension, and character‑driven drama that keeps the pages turning.

Detective Gemma Capello and Detective Sean Logan make a compelling duo, each carrying the scars—physical and emotional—of their last ordeal. Their dynamic is one of the novel’s strengths: Gemma’s calm, intuitive negotiating style contrasts beautifully with Logan’s tactical precision, and watching them navigate another crisis together adds depth to the adrenaline‑fueled plot.

The hostage situation aboard a billionaire’s luxury yacht is a fantastic setup: isolated, chaotic, and filled with powerful people who have everything to lose. Driscoll uses the setting brilliantly, letting the icy harbor, the ticking clock, and the shifting motives build a sense of claustrophobic urgency. The cryptocurrency ransom demand adds a modern twist, but it’s the layers beneath—the grudges, the secrets, the misdirection—that make the story truly addictive.

As Gemma connects with the hostage taker and Logan races through brutal winter waters toward Liberty Island, the tension ratchets up with every chapter. Driscoll excels at pacing: short, sharp scenes, rising stakes, and just enough emotional grounding to make you care deeply about the outcome. And when the truth finally emerges, it’s more twisted—and more satisfying—than it first appears.

A propulsive, high‑stakes thriller perfect for fans of Patterson‑style pacing and Baldacci‑level intrigue. Countdown delivers action, heart, and a relentless sense of urgency right up to the final page.

My thanks to Sara Driscoll, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC

Read my full review on Rosepoint Publishing.

Gemma Capello, hostage negotiator and Detective Sean Logan, has been called out on a call of persons taken hostage aboard a luxury yacht owned by a steel-hearted billionaire on New Year’s Eve.

It is the terror-stricken call from a college student working as a crew member who secreted himself below decks that forced the initial immediate action.

The approach by water and boarding of the yacht will take a multi-sided strategy.
The author paints an atmosphere of icy harbor water with frigid winter night winds and the escalating tension inside the cabin.

The pacing explodes with angst throughout the negotiation, adding well-plotted multi-layers of characters' emotions and coordinating law enforcement objectives.

The narrative appears to be growing in the complexity of scenarios and the characters are more fully developed. The inner workings of police tactics are descriptive and informative. If you enjoy intelligent storylines with engaging characters, this one will fill that bill.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book. The thoughts expressed here are my own. 4.5 stars

It’s New Year’s Eve in New York and the harbor is filled with boats seeking the best viewpoint for the midnight fireworks. Hostage negotiator Gemma Capello is back at work after recovering from her own hostage experience when a 911 call from a luxury yacht sets off the first of multiple negotiations…

In COUNTDOWN, the fifth entry in the NYPD Negotiators series by Sara Driscoll, negotiator Gemma Capello and NYPD Tactical Team leader Sean Logan are faced with a hostage situation aboard a superyacht located somewhere in the waters around NYC.

Noah, a waiter, has managed to hide below deck and call 911. Now, while Gemma tries to get into the mind of the hostage-taker, Logan and his team need to rescue Noah and get themselves in position to save all the hostages if negotiation fails.

Tension mounts as a deadline approaches and the negotiating team begin to realize there is something more going on than just a cryptocurrency ransom demand.

Readers of the first four books in the series will be delighted by the developing relationship between the two main characters. Lovers of procedurals will especially enjoy the Tactical Team deployment.
Prepare for a tense and exciting thriller. COUNTDOWN delivers!

Thank you to the author and Kensington for this ARC.

I anxiously wait for the next book by this author and this book was certainly worth the wait. This is the fifth book in the NYPD Negotiators series with Gemma and Logan who are still recovering from their last situation together. It’s New Year’s Eve and word of a hostage situation on a luxury yacht in New York harbor is received from a college student who has hidden in a closet. As a negotiator Gemma attempts to make contact with the hostage taker and find out what is the driving force behind his actions. Logan and his team are working on a way to get on the yacht undetected and to get the stowaway safely off. Their teams are working the case and find details that may change how things are handled. The hostage taker has a motive to get cryptocurrency from the yacht owner. Gemma and Logan soon find themselves front and center in a related hostage situation. I have enjoyed every book I’ve read by this author as they are all tense, fast-paced and hard to put down. I received a copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Gemma Capello has recovered from her near death experience as a hostage in Grand Central Station. She is now lead on the negotiating team tasked with rescuing 41 people being held on a billionaire’s yacht during a New Year’s Eve party.

An unregistered crew member has managed to hide and call 911 to alert police.

This is also the first time Capello and Logan have tested their personal relationship in the workplace. It seems to enhance their skills.

Logan’s team boards the yacht in secret while Gemma talks to the hostage taker. He is dead set on his demands which raises red flags with Gemma. Something is out of kilter. In addition the billionaire won’t cave and appears to care nothing about the safety of anyone.

The yacht rescue leads to a second unexpected scene, where Gemma’s negotiating skills and personal courage are required.

Sarah Driscoll is meticulous in her descriptions of the scenes, circumstances, equipment, and technology., but that does not slow the action. This is a great addition to the series.

A new Years Eve celebration upon a yacht in the New York harbor turns south. Gemma and Sean are in the city to enjoy a trouble free evening. That wish is smashed when they get a 911 dispatched to them. A call from a college student, Noah who is extra staff on the yacht relaying there is a hostage situation on the yacht and even the crew is rounded up with the guests. He is in hiding. A team is rounded up and it is decided they embark the boat on a side where there are no people. The inflated raft has an electric motor so they can arrive unnoticed. They find Noah and put him to safety while Gemma is at a command center negotiating with the kidnappers. The team waits for word when it will be safe to remove the hostages. The question is the 'why' this man is holding the hostages. Just things that make you go 'HUM'. This is another great nail biter from the desk of Sara Driscoll, one I could not put down

Countdown (NYPD Negotiators #5) by Sara Driscoll is a fast-paced crime thriller. After being held hostage, Gemma Capello returns to lead the unit in another harrowing hostage situation. The drama begins on New Year’s Eve on a luxury yacht in New York Harbor. Logan and his team secretly board the yacht but the negotiator teams learns that there is a much more complicated and devious plan at action. The edge of your seat action continues non-stop throughout the story leading the reader on a breath-taking journey. The attention to details from the ins and outs of cryptocurrency and logistics adds to the depth and excitement of the story.

Countdown can be read as a standalone. Reading the first books will give you more background and a deeper understanding of the characters so it is always an added benefit to begin with book one. Sara Driscoll is an auto read author for me and I highly recommend all of her books!

Thank you to Kensington for my ARC of this book.
Countdown is book 5 in the Nypd negotiations series by this author. It can be read on its own but does reference back to previous books and cases so there are some spoilers if you haven't read the other books. This book is suspenseful but focuses more on police procedural in my opinion. The story moves at a fast pace for the most part but does occasionally get bogged down by the procedural details. Overall a good quick read. Told from multiple points of view it follows Gemma Capello, the negotiator with HNT, and Sean Logan, a sniper with ESU, as they work with their respective teams to end the hostage situation taking place on a yacht in New York Harbor. Their first case together as a newly formed couple has their superiors keeping a close eye to make sure that they can keep their personal and professional lives separate. While this book has hints of romance it factors in very little and has no explicit details.

New Years Eve on a luxury yacht in the New York Harbor, sounds amazing unless you are being held hostage. NYPD receives a message from crew member that shots have been fired, and people are being held hostage. The caller is in hiding as he was “extra” help that was not approved by the host, Lucas Horner.
This is Gemma’s first time back in the negotiation team’s driver seat after the Grand Central incident, and first time with Logan being back on the A Team to supply support. They set their feelings aside and again are at their best.
How do you contact the hostage taker when no demands have been made? Who are on the yacht, what is the relationship of the hostage taker to the hostages, and how do you deal with an arrogant billionaire who doesn’t care if people get killed one at a time until demands are met …. So many questions.
Don’t start this book unless you are willing to lose track of time and keep turning pages.

Once again this author had me on the edge of my seat, wondering if this could possibly end without a lot of bloodshed. It’s New Year’s Eve and the celebrations are just beginning. A call regarding a hostage situation brings the Hostage Negotiation Team together with the A-Team, the ESC tactical unit. First dilemma - it is aboard a super-yacht in the middle of the NY harbor. Second hurdle to cross - find a way to contact the hostage taker and attempt to diffuse the situation.

How did the hostage taker get on board and what are the demands, in order to get everyone home safely? Gemma needs to establish a point of contact allowing Logan and his team the chance to rescue those hostages. Can they do it? You won’t set this aside until you reach the conclusion!

An early copy of NYPD Negotiators #5 was received through Kensington Publishing Corp. and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

This book is another thriller featuring Gemma Capello and her boyfriend Sean Logan, both are distinguished members of specialized NYPD squads.

What appears to be a hostage situation in the middle of the Hudson River on busy New Year’s Eve quickly turns much more complicated. Gemma’s negotiating skills combined with Logan’s leadership skills diffuse the situation without loss of life. What they didn’t expect was that they would find another kidnapping in progress that they are their teams would have to solve.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series and this is no exception. They’re always fast paced, exciting and as a reader you are vested in the outcome. Recommend!

Gemma is a hostage negotiator. Logan is a detective in the tactical unit. Together, they are quite the team. While most workplaces would frown on a romantic relationship in a high-stress job, but for them, it works flawlessly. New Years Eve brings a new threat. A 911 text from a college student is the only clue that the entire crew and guests of a super yacht has been taken hostage. Its up to Gemma to try to talk the hostage taker down. And if she can't, its Logan's job to take him down.

This book throws you straight into the action, and it doesn't stop. The stakes are high, the tension is even higher. It plays out like a true crime documentary, unraveling clues and motives until the picture finally makes sense. It is fantastically written. The police "jargon" is written in a way that feels authentic, but makes sense. I really enjoyed this one, and I will be reading more!

A high stakes and intense read
Gemma and Sean are working their first job together since their near fatal Grand Central Station mission. A hostage situation on a yacht in the harbour on New Years Eve, with some rich and powerful people on board, is a difficult assignment. When the hostage taker won't budge in his demands, Gemma knows something else is going on. She is going to have to use her instincts and her experience to figure out what.
I enjoy how the author weaves both POV - the negotiating and the incursion of the A-Team. I also liked how cryptocurrency, something I know nothing about, was explained in an easy to understand manner. As always, the author research and attention to detail add so much to the story and make the reader feel like they are there with the team.
This is a suspenseful and action filled series and I am looking forward to the next book.

First off, I'd like to thank Sara Driscoll, Kensington, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this early copy!

I always look forward to diving into a Sara Driscoll novel. She is highly skilled at drawing the reader in to the action with her well-researched settings, plots, and characters.

In this latest NYPD Negotiators entry, we are brought into a hostage situation on a yacht in NYC on New Year's Eve. But is this a straightforward negotiation or are things not adding up for Gemma and her team?

The atmosphere was superb, from the frigid temperatures outside, to the tension ratcheting up in the HNT command centre as Gemma leads her first negotiation since being held hostage with her new boyfriend, Sean Logan of the ESU in Grand Central three weeks prior.

I highly recommend all of Sara Driscoll's novels, and Countdown is no exception!

COUNTDOWN is the fifth book in the NYPD Negotiators series, and it draws a lot from book number four. Incidents from other books in the series are also mentioned, but mostly as background. The reader might want to read TERMINAL IMPASSE (book #4) first.

Three weeks after book #4 concludes, Gemma and Logan are working together when a hostage situation arises in New York's harbor. The story alternates between Gemma's and Logan's POVS (third person), so the tension artfully builds. This isn't a clear-cut hostage situation and as the HNT (Hostage Negotiation Team) figures out what is really going on, everything changes.

This book was an intense and excellent distraction as I spent two days int hospital.

Thank you to the author for an advance copy of the book.

I received this book with no expectations of a positive review. I have fallen in love with the NYPD Negotiatiors Novels. Countdown did not disappoint. What happens on New Years Eve in New York City has the world watching. No one would expect a luxury yacht holding ritz and glammer to be hijacked and all held as hostages. This is a nightmare of epic proportions. Gemma and Logan are called to duty. Can they save the hostages? Will they be able to talk the hostage taker down? Join Gemma and Logan as they navigate the cold waters on New Years Eve. This is a must read that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page.

An action packed thriller from the 1st chapter! A hostage negotiator with the NYPD is put to the test as a yacht full of rich party goers is taken hostage on New Year’s Eve in the New York Harbor. As Gemma works this case, she discovers deception and manipulation on many levels that will make your jaw drop as she and the tactical unit work to bring everyone out of this alive including all responsible for this incident.
This book is the 5th in the series but can be read as a stand alone and I plan to go back and catch up to this book as it is too interesting not to.
Thanks to the author and Kensington Publishing for my ARC.

This book starts out with a college student Noah Swift calling 911 reporting that he is hidden belowdecks on a luxury yacht in the New York harbor. And the rest of the people on the yacht have been taken hostage.
NYPD’s hostage negotiator Detective Gemma Capello starts working on getting ahold of the hostage taker and negotiate with him.
While NYPD’s Detective Sean Logan and his A-Team tactical unit sneak onboard of the yacht to get Noah to safety. Then they do what needs to be done to help the hostages.
This is a very good book. Fast paced with lots of action and suspense. I highly recommend it. 😁

Can Gemma work with Logan and his team to rescue a room full of guests held hostage on a yacht while working with the gunman to save a family in their home?
The details of Logan scaling a rotting warehouse wall and crossing an unstable roof to be the sniper designated as lead of the assault team was so detailed, the tension in Logan kept me glued to the chapter.
If you are new to this series, there are enough references to earlier operations to pique your interest without giving away the thriller plots.

This is an exciting thriller packed into a few hours on New Years Eve. It is a hostage and tactical team situation where the negotiator and the tactical team lead are a couple. This book grabs you right away and hurls you through an ever-changing situation as just when things are getting interesting everything changes. The changes in the situation constantly keep you guessing. The suspense just keeps getting ratcheted up. The tight timeline of the negotiation heightens the suspense. This will keep you reading late into the night.

I never cease to be amazed when I read one of Sara Driscoll’s books and find myself drawn so completely in the story, feeling the nail-biting tension experienced by the team. This book had me hooked from page 1 - watching Gemma Capella and Sean Logan work as a team for the first time since their own experience being hostages as well as becoming a couple. The details held me entranced as the complex story played out. Excellent!

Countdown is another excellent story in the NYPD Negotiators series by Sara Driscoll. The author goes into so much detail to give the reader an idea of what the negotiators and tactical unit teams go through when faced with a life and death situation as they try to free the hostages. This book really captured my attention, making it hard to put down. I recommend this book and the entire series.

Thank NetGalley and Sara Driscoll for allowing me to read early the book Countdown. These stories just keep getting better & better.
This is about NYC hostage negotiator Gema Capello, detective Sean Logan, and their teams trying to save the hostages before the midnight deadline. This book will show how far someone will go to save their family, a billionaire man that owns a yacht, and a tech company that failed.
