This danmei stands out as the only one in which I wholeheartedly accept the use of the miscommunication and amnesia trope. The way these elements are executed is so skillful that, although I feel a sense of frustration, by the end of the story, I quickly forget about it and find myself feeling happy again. The volume was incredibly intense, filled with relentless battles that kept escalating, and then unexpectedly shifting the timeline, which caused the magic to return, truly a wild ride from start to finish. I particularly enjoyed the cameo appearance of a character from Legend of Exorcist, which served as a delightful reminder that this story is sort of a prequel.
Chen Xing is a protagonist who ignites an immense amount of love and admiration within my heart. He radiates hope and carries the desire to see the world peaceful and free from conflict. His willingness to sacrifice himself for the greater good is truly admirable. I don't usually favor self-sacrificing characters, but Chen Xing is an exceptional case where his noble intentions make him stand out.
Xiang Shu remains as much an asshole as ever, but he’s undeniably charming in his own way. He tends to avoid communication and expects Chen Xing to read his mind, getting mad when his expectations aren't met. His personality is prickly, yet beneath that tough exterior lie feelings that are soft, sincere, and deeply genuine, so much so that it's impossible to stay angry at him for long.
Again I don't really like asshole characters but he is an exception.
Their relationship is incredibly entertaining to follow. They engage in constant bickering, fighting, arguing, and sniping at each other, yet, beneath all that tension, there's a profound love that becomes evident, often bringing tears to my eyes. Xiang Shu is willing to do absolutely anything for Chen Xing, and he proves that in this volume through his actions. While I might not fully agree with his methods, there’s no doubt that he is completely head over heels in love with Chen Xing. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops in the new timeline.
In conclusion, this volume was truly outstanding, and I am incredibly excited to see what volume 5 has in store.

I usually love a good amnesia arc, but I'm not really sure how I feel about how it's being done here. Similarly, I love the time-reverse/do-over trope, and yet, I'm not quite sure if I enjoy it here.
halfway through Dinghai Fusheng Records, Vol. 4, in what is meant to be the final battle between our heroes and the demon god, the dinghai pearl is unsealed and chen xing and team are sent back in time to before they all even meet. all of them retain their memories of those three years that no longer exist, except for xiang shu because of... reasons (not very good reasons in my opinion).
armed with dangerous foreknowledge and new magic that has returned to the world, they try to prevent the very many tragedies from occurring again.
it's not that it's badly done. and I don't hate it being done... its just that I don't get why this was necessary. a lot of people died in the previous timeline, and there was a sense of great unfairness. chen xing and xiang shu were strong but still had their limitations ‐ they couldn't be everywhere at once, they failed so many times at saving everyone, only managing the slightest of victories. now they know exactly how to save everyone. now the whole team is more OP than ever. we're going through the same events from volume 1 and there's just no stakes, no weight to anything. it feels very contrived.
the thing is - I still love this story and adore these characters, and despite my gripes with the direction in plot, I still did very much enjoy this volume.
chen xing is cute, kind and funny as hell and I love seeing this bolder (and yes, mentally older) version of him interact with a not-quite-as-guarded xiang shu. and as corny and camp as it can be, it is genuinely wholesome to see characters be saved from their bad decisions made out of desperation and given a second chance at life and happiness.

Ça me fait de la peine, mais je pense qu’il est temps de lâcher prise. J’ai commencé Dinghai Fusheng Records il y a plusieurs années, bien avant que les danmei ne commencent à être licenciés en anglais. Le début, je l’ai littéralement dévoré : l’humour, la première rencontre, la dynamique entre Chen Xing et Xiang Shu… tout me séduisait, j’étais persuadée de tenir un futur coup de cœur.
Et puis, petit à petit, ça s’est compliqué. Au lieu de lire ça d’une traite en deux jours, j’ai enchaîné les pauses… des pauses qui se comptent en années. Cette année encore, j’ai tenté de reprendre, mais j’ai fini par lire d’autres danmei à la place, incapable d’avancer. Pourtant, j’aime les personnages, j’aime l’écriture, la fantrad est excellente… alors où est le problème ? Je me suis posé la question mille fois. Et la réponse est finalement assez simple : l’histoire, ses enjeux, ses buts, ne m’ont jamais vraiment accrochée.
Même la dynamique entre Chen Xing et Xiang Shu qui m’avait charmée au départ a fini par m’ennuyer. Ce soir, en essayant de forcer quelques chapitres, j’ai réalisé que je me contraignais littéralement à tourner les pages. Et si je dois me forcer, c’est clairement le signe qu’il est temps de passer à autre chose.
Je voulais vraiment aimer ce roman et je regrette de ne pas aller au bout. Mais au fond, ce regret est déjà une preuve de la qualité de l’œuvre, je suppose. Ce n’était simplement pas pour moi. Heureusement, Fei Tian Ye Xiang a d’autres histoires à offrir, et je suis persuadée qu’il me réserve encore de belles surprises.

This was so perfect and completely unexpected because I genuinely had no idea where the story was going. Just when I thought I was starting to lose interest, it took such an interesting turn that I immediately bumped my rating up to 4.5 stars.
I also love that my favorite found family is still together, and I’ll definitely be looking forward to more Xiang Shu and Chen Xing moments in the next volume.
