Alchemist. Poisoner. Reluctant Queen.
Wren Embervale knows her duty demands a crown, even if it means a strategic betrothal to the influential Lord Darian Devereux. Their arranged marriage promises the formidable army she needs to wrestle her kingdom from the clutches of the tyrannical usurper, Silas. Yet, Wren’s heart still belongs to Torj Elderbrock, her soul-bonded Warsword.

Torn between her pragmatic alliance and the visceral pull of her bond with Torj, Wren must navigate a treacherous landscape of courtly intrigue and looming war. As Silas’s shadow alchemy tightens its grip on the midrealms and a creeping poison steals Torj’s strength, Wren’s carefully constructed façade begins to crack . . .

Can Wren play the dutiful fiancée to secure her throne, while her body and soul yearns for the warrior who would lay down his life for her? Or will the tangled threads of political necessity leave her kingdom – and her heart – in ashes?

Noteworthy: Audio book publication date is 11/18/2025. Narrated by Matt Haynes and Emilia Bauer. This book was recorded in dual narration.

This the 3rd and final book in The Ashes of Thezmarr series. And what and epic conclusion it was! It was heartbreaking, heartfelt, action packed and even funny at times (Kipp the man that you are!). We get a heavy dose of our found family here while we watch our FMC and MMC navigate a way through their predicaments. Wren and Torj are just a perfect Romantacy couple. To say it's a hard fought path to the end is an understatement. More than once I found myself wondering how they were going to make it out.

The dual narration is well done. I love Emilia's voice acting. She is perfect for Wren who is a softer FMC. Matt did a good job with varying his tones for so many male characters. I suggest an immersive experience with the audio along with a read along of the physical or ebook for the best experience. You won't regret getting this audio book!

'My truth is that I love you more and more every day, if that’s even possible after the past thirteen years of loving you. If life has taught me anything, Embers, it’s that not much can stand in the way of that.’

(little spoilers about the endgame present)

A really great conclusion to a series I greatly enjoyed, this trilogy in particular.

Wren and Torj have been my favorite characters and favorite ship in this world from the start, I adored their journey, their love and their connection, they are a power couple and so devoted to each other, they would do anything. They went through a lot, heart wrenching obstacles and so much yearning, their love has been years in the making and their HEA is so deserved.

I adore Wren and have loved watching her find her place and her strength, she proves over and over that one doesn’t need to hold a sword to be a force to be reckoned with, she has magic, her alchemy, determination and most of all her brain. Torj has always been a protector at heart, but never believed he deserved more, that he was worthy, it’s Wren who has helped him see he matters for who he is and I’m glad he reunited with his grandma.

It was also great to have all the characters back and watch the team work together, I love the friends group and their interactions and it was the best way to say goodbye to everyone.

It rates a bit lower than the other two books for me for a couple of reasons. One, too many Wren and Torj scenes together were spice scenes/had them being horny, I enjoy a good spice obviously and they have great chemistry, but when there’s too much of it, it loses impact and becomes redundant. Their moments of emotional connection and love hit way more, those had me and were a beauty.
Second, I feel like the pacing could have been a bit better, in the first 40% of the book it was like some aspects of the story went in circles without progressing much, I felt like I kept waiting for the MCs to take decisive actions. The rhythm definitely picks up in the second half, plans start to be made, interesting stuff happens and the characters step up, things got really exciting.

Over whole, I enjoyed this series so much and am a bit sad to say goodbye to these characters, I’ll miss them and this was a satisfying conclusion to a beautiful and incredibly enjoyable journey.

“Listen to me, Elwren Embervale,” he growled. “If these are my final days, then they’re yours. Every breath. Every heartbeat. They belong to you. They have since the moment I met you in the Bloodwoods.”

i was worried i wouldn’t enjoy this conclusion based on the direction book two took at the end, but thankfully the plot points i thought were random started to make a lot more sense. Torj is one of my favorite mmc’s, he really sets the standard when it comes to his unyielding need to always make sure Wren is taken care of— with or without him and always respecting her decisions regardless. the connection they have is undeniable and i just love them so much. Wren is also one of my favorite fmc’s, she doesn’t back down and always fights tooth and nail for everyone around her. i was living for all the moments they stole together and how determined she was to make sure Torj would be able to stay by her side.

”Furies save him, he would always cave for her, no matter the cost.”

as someone who’s read all 7 books in this series, it’s insane to me how attached I’ve gotten to everyone.. even Thea and Wilder. Kipp and Cal will always stick with me, this book truly just felt like a perfect wrap up for everyone and being able to reminisce along with the characters made it all hit so much harder. the author is honestly really great at writing action scenes, there were so many that had me in a complete chokehold. each character has their own standout moments in battle, it created a nice balance with the more heartfelt moments. i’m begging and pleading for the author to return to this world in the future, I’d love books following my favorite chaotic duo and i hope there’s more of Zavier too. i cannot give Torj and Wren enough praise as a couple, i’m sad that it’s over but i loved the journey.

“Worshiping your body is my honor,” he told her. “My fucking privilege.”

- Mate/ Soul bonds
- Forbidden lovers
- Guard/ Charge
- Touch-her-and-💀
- Heir to the throne

“You are everything to me. My friend. My lover. My soul-bonded… My queen.”

This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and I’m so grateful to Pan MacMillan & NetGalley for the ARC, I was beyond excited to dive in!

The final book in the Ashes of Thezmarr trilogy was everything I hoped for and more. Silver & Smoke picks up right where Thorns and Fire left off, thrusting us back into the chaos of Wren’s coerced betrothal to Darian Devereux. From there, the gang is swept into another epic quest across the Midrealms in a bid to raise an army and face Silas on the battlefield. But with Torj slowly succumbing to the poison in his veins, the stakes are higher than ever, and time is running out to find a cure…

As always, Helen Scheuerer delivers a brilliant blend of rich world-building, an addictive plot, and characters you can’t help but root for. The writing is fast-paced and filled with banter, tension, romance and spice, while also weaving together multiple storylines with ease. The evolution of Wren and Torj’s journey gripped me, but I also adored the arcs of familiar faces, especially Thea and Wilder, whose relationship development brought both smiles and tears! Fans of Legends of Thezmarr will be delighted to see returning characters like Talemir Starling make their mark once again too (if you haven’t read Slaying the Shadow Prince yet - add it to your list immediately!).

This finale is an emotional whirlwind, it wrapped up the trilogy in a way that was satisfying while still leaving me desperate for more from the Thezmarr universe. I would love to see Kipp, or Cal & Zavier take centre stage in future spin-offs!

The Ashes of Thezmarr series has cemented itself as one of my favourite series - it’s epic, heartfelt, and utterly addictive. I’ll be shouting about Helen Scheuerer’s books forever, and I cannot wait to see what she does next!

This was good but not great in my opinion
I think the series may be better consumed back to back to keep the momentum and interest.
There was way too many spicy scenes for me and not enough plot, then we get to the ending and its all over in a minute.

It just felt like this didn’t need to be its own book
Not every series needs to be a trilogy, this would have made a great duology. The world/plot wasn’t complex enough to need 3 books
And there wasn’t enough POVs to keep the book from becoming repetitive

I do love Wren & Torj but books 1&2 were better

this was such an amazing conclusion of torj & wren’s story! i’m so sad to be saying goodbye to the midrealms… for now? ;)

torj the man that you are!! this man yearns like no other, and the mouth on him? i’m unwell. i absolutely devoured the forbidden love trope in this. the sneaking around? stolen glances? i was SAT. torj & wren’s chemistry continues to blow me away, but i love seeing how they have both grown as characters and came together to form an unbreakable bond.

i loved seeing my favorite side characters yet again (i’m still begging for a cal & kipp novella) and all the cameos from the other thezmarr books! all the stories coming to a close was so bittersweet. 🥹

a huge thank you so much helen and her team for this arc, it’s such an honor to be a part of this street team again! i can’t wait for future projects as i’ll read anything helen writes. ♥︎

Returning to the midrealms always feels like returning home to me and there is nothing like the comfort I can find within this world and especially Helen's writing. Silver & Smoke is the last book of Wren & Torjs' story and it was such an amazing conclusion to end the series on as well as being my favourite book from Ashes of Thezmarr.

Silver & Smoke picks straight up from where book two ended and it was non stop action from start to finish. The way Helen writes yearning is amazing it is filled with all the aches, despair, heartbreak and most of all hope that in the end everything will work out. Wren's growth throughout this series has been my favourite and even more so in this book, she is fierce, determined and finds such inner strength to fight for what she wants and Torj is the perfect MMC who will tear the world down to put Wren front and center and their love story is truly one of those soul crushing loves that defies all odds. The character growth of both of them not only as individuals but as as a couple is amazing.

I loved seeing the reappearnce of some of my favourite characters and that's when it really hit me that this is really the end of the series that has truly become a forever favourite. The way everything falls into place even with the many twists and turns that develops throughout this last book just proves how much of an amazing storyteller Helen is and why this series will always own my heart.

I've loved every single second of being in Legends of Thezmarr and now Ashes of Thezmarr and even though this is the end of my time in the midrealms, I cannot wait to see what amazing stories Helen writes next.

Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to read and review before publication. All opinions are my own.

4.75☆ so bittersweet finishing this series and saying goodbye to these characters who I love so much. torj, the definition of groveling and yearning. leave it to helen for making me love a blonde mmc. wren, not your typical badass warrior fmc but is still badass in her own ways.

this didn’t quite give that five star feeling because the conclusion felt a bit rushed but I still loved it!

I NEED a kipp book please and thank you!!!

huge ty to helen and team for allowing me to be apart of the silver & smoke street team and for sending me an e-arc!

A fantastic conclusion to one of my favorite romantasy series of all time. ALL the stars for Silver & Smoke by Helen Scheuerer, the final book in The Ashes of Thezmarr trilogy!!

📖 ARC Review 📖
🗓️ Pub date: November 6, 2025

I've loved this story from start to finish. It's so bittersweet finding an incredible, 5-star series like this because I never wanted it to end.

The world? Intricate and immersive.
The plot? Addictive.
The romance? Packed with yearning, tension & banter.

The writing in this book and the entirety of this series is fast-paced and immersive. I feel like I know these characters inside and out and I'm standing in the room with them.

Wren and Torj are beautifully complex and relatably flawed. Their dynamic reminds me of saying "fill up each other's cups" because of the way they complement and give in to one another. I also love that their dynamic balances themes of protection and saving.

Helen really put our man through it in this series, forever yearning and pining after our girl. I can cut the tension and authentic chemistry between these characters with a knife. The burn after slowly burning in the last two books was SOOOOOO worth the wait.

While I can go on and on about the romantic relationships, the platonic relationships are just as captivating. I am a sucker for the found family trope, and it's done super well in both this series and The Legends of Thezmarr.

A sincere thank you to Helen Scheuerer & Anne for gifting me a physical ARC ahead of its release date!

I cannot wait to see where Helen Scheuerer takes us next! (maybe a Kipp, Cal or Zavier novella??)

“Every breath. Every heartbeat. They belong to you.”

The end of an era. I couldn’t be more in love with the stories of the Midrhelms. Legends of Thezmarr started my love for these amazing characters. Helen’s writing always amazes me. Her world building is beautiful and her plots are exhilarating and fast paced.

This book starts off right where we left off in Thorns and Fire, with Wren torn between her duty and her desires of the heart. Everything is in chaos and war is coming. Sooo much yearning and emotional turmoil between Wren and Torj as they navigated all the challenges thrown at them. Their story was perfect. The strength, the love, the intensity and passion was unmatched.

One thing I love about Helen’s storytelling is that she always makes sure her FMC’s stand out over the male characters. I’m always here for the fearless heroine coming into her power. Wren was the star of the show and I loved every moment of it.

If you’re looking for your next romantasy series to get lost in, I cannot recommend these enough. Helen is a must read author if you’re a fan of fantasy romance reads. The love and the friendships between this group of characters is one of my all time favorites. These are all action packed stories mixed with spicy romance and laugh out loud moments. Helen leaves no shortage of plot twists and emotional damage either. Trust me when I say to read these books.

"My truth, the only truth that matters, is that you are everything to me. My friend. My lover. My soul-bonded.. My queen.”

“This woman was a storm incarnate, and gods, did he relish seeing her rage. Furies save them all from the damage she could do. Behind the unassuming facade was a ruthless vixen.”

“She was a reckoning all of her own. She was the storm.”

"It's you who's ruined me, Embers. And you did that long ago."

Helen Scheuerer never disappoints and the final chapter in the Ashes of Thezmarr series brings about a bittersweet by triumphant story of the midrealms.

This book will wrestle every emotion out of you as Wren, Torj, and the rest of the beloved gang marched toward the final battle for the kingdom of Delmira. The tension and relationship between Wren and Torj, the return of old friends, and the comedic relief that is the fabulous Kipp, infamous Son of the Fox himself makes this one heck of a final book in the trilogy.

Wren and Torj's relationship may have some new hurtles to jump but these two always manage to sizzle on the page. Their relationship does battle with political schemes and questionable nobles throughout the book, but in return Helen delivers some of the best romantic moments of the series right here in Silver and Smoke.

As for the plot we have all been following since Iron and Embers, Helen makes to deliver a political nailbiter with twists and turns that will have you cheering by the end. She does a wonderful job of tying up many of those burning questions that have plagued us from the beginning and leaving us with a plot that feels settled and complete and all the best ways.

This series truly will always have a special place in my heart and I am sad it will be the final time in Thezmarr. But I cannot wait to see where she takes us next with her stories.

Tropes: guard/charge • forbidden soul bonds • arranged marriage • feminine rage • war politics • magic x science

Quoteable: “Get your hands off my ——— wife.”

LOOK. The way I’ve waited and waited for the ending these two deserve Torj and Wren have been through the stinking ringer to the point that I was convinced Helen hated them 😂

Helen is a MASTERFUL writer! I’m amazed by her ability to balance tragedy, plot, world-building, relationships, comedy, banter, and pacing so incredibly well. Each character, main and secondary, was so well-fleshed out but it never drug on and she wrapped up every storyline and relationship and character development in such a satisfying way….and sometimes sad 🥲

When a book starts right where the last left off, it’s like someone one scratching your head: it feels so so good 😌 thank you mommy, Helen! Wren is torn between desire and duty AND A LITERAL SOUL BOND and the burn the reader feels for Wren and Torj is unparalleled. A clear enemy, clear struggle, intricate and well-crafted movements. UGH! I can’t get enough and there will never be enough! I could keep reading about this crew for 10 more books!

And of course, as far as audiobooks go it’s an absolute win! Two of my favorite narrators to listen to and they did an incredible job, and match the characters so well!

Thank you so much Helen, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Wren, Torj, and their allies once again battle for the fate of the midrealms. But with fragile alliances and time running out, will they outmaneuver and outsmart their greatest threat? Facing bargains and powerful adversaries, they’ll risk it all to save the midrealms and each other

Series Tropes:

I cannot believe that this is the final chapter of the Ashes of Thezmarr journey! Helen masterfully delivers a visceral installment inciting chaos on all the emotions. The narrators captured the suspense, longing, and unwavering devotion woven throughout the story. I felt the suspense pulsing beneath my skin, devotion that made my heart ache, and hope that shone in the face of adversity. The found family and their banter filled my heart with pure joy.

Will Wren and Torj’s love endure in the face of bargains, curses, uncertain fates, and death itself?

Silver & Smoke weaves the unshakable friendships and stunning romances into a heartfelt and glorious send off for these unforgettable characters!

I could live within this story forever but cannot wait for what Helen has planned next! The Ashes of Thezmarr has officially taken its mantle alongside The Legends of Thezmarr as a god-tier epic Romantasy and 5 star series for me.

"The fresh image of cinders settling across the grounds of Drevenor came to her then, along with a truth that stirred within—one she had learned in the wake of the last war… Sometimes, the most resilient blooms were the ones that grew from the ashes. She could sense the dark clouds gathering overhead, could feel the thunder rolling in answer to her resolve. This time, when her storm broke, it would show [redacted] exactly what grew from scorched earth and thorns."

What a lovely conclusion to this trilogy. I loved getting to experience Wren and Torj's story and I cannot believe that this trilogy is complete in less than a YEAR! There were lots of treats sprinkled into this one by Helen and the nostalgia for some of our characters from Legends was definitely strong. And the YEARNING! I won't say too much just in case anyone hasn't started the trilogy yet but Wren and Torj are really put through the wringer, along with many of our other favorites...

A glimpse into Torj's mind just in case you need a taste of the yearning...

"She looked so beautiful, so full of life and fire that it almost hurt. He was hurting, Torj realized. At the thought that all of this was temporary [...] there was no promise of anything other than the now, and all the while they had to pretend they meant nothing to one another."

Thank you to Helen for the eARC and happy reading!

4.5-5⭐️ UGHHH I love this series!!
I think this might be my favorite in the series and it felt like the perfect ending to the trilogy!😍 I know some things will have been spoiled for me after reading this series, but I don't care, I'll have to read Legends of Thezmarr so I can stay in this world a little longer 🫶🏼

I just love all of the characters and the writing and the planning - you name it! this one is more heavy on the war/fighting/strategizing which makes total sense if you've read the 1st and 2nd book. sometimes, for me at least, many and heavy detailed battles scenes can result in me losing interest, but this was perfectly paced!👏🏼

I love Wren and Torj! Torj is a man of yearning and I’m here for it! did I think the cure was a little too good to be true, yup, but it also makes sense and I did kinda think it would be like that - still 🤌🏼

ofc I know nothing of wars or how to plan one, but everytime they were coming up with plans I was like 'wow, that's so smart!'😂 it was giving all the fantasy vibes!!

I reaaaally want a spin-off or novella with Kipp and a certain someone (you'll know who when you've read the book) - like it would be such a fun read!!

2.5/5🌶️

I know I say this all the time, but this book feels like coming home. These characters are so deeply a part of me now—I’ll carry them with me forever. This series deserves to be turned into an HBO show, no question.

Wren is a queen through and through. She handled everything thrown at her with so much cunning and grace. The ending was a 10/10 for her. Wren and Torj aren’t technically together for most of this book, and I was so worried I wouldn’t love that… but Helen pulled it off perfectly. This is how a slow-burn, separated-lovers trope should be written. The stolen kisses, the secret meetups, they keep you going through all the war planning and schemes to take down the villain.

We also get more of the characters from the first part of the Thezmar series, which ties everything together in the best way. A perfect little bow on an incredible story. I recommend this series to literally anyone who will listen.

The Ashes of Thezmarr has been a gripping, romantic, and thrilling trilogy. The very best of Romatasy, where the world, the plot, and the romance all work in harmony and leave the reader enthralled and perched on the edge of their seat.

I am not a patient woman these days and I rarely like to wait for books in a series to come out before starting these days. However, I signed up for an ARC of Iron & Embers and then I was hooked. I loved Wren and her boldness and sense of right and wrong. It's just a tiny bit screwed, but that makes her all the more endearing. She's prickly and unpredictable, my kinda gal. Then we have Torj; our gruff protector who is enthralled with Wren as well, he feels drawn to her but they are kinda enemies as this series starts off.

However, Fated mates and soul bonds have other things planned for them.

I felt very satisfied with how this trilogy played out. Even having not read the previous series, I felt connected to all the characters, I felt their peril and the weariness of war. I wanted them to succeed so much! My heart was often beating so fast. The last 250 pages had me locked in my headphones listening to it all unfold.

I really enjoyed how Helen Scheuerer told the story. It was romantic, epic, and full of life. I can't wait to read more from her soon!

I listened to this on audio and it was narrated in the dual style by Matt Haynes & Emilia Bauer. They were wonderful through this whole trilogy and they brought Wren and Torj to life for me.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for approving me to read this book, I’m rating it 5.0 stars.

This story is fierce and delicious. I’m obsessed with the alchemist and bear slayer romance, these characters are complex and powerful in their own right and the way they soften for each other and also bring one another further strength when faced with all they have.. it’s stunning.

The spice in this book is as hot as ever and I love it.

We pick up the story after the pure chaos and violence of book 2, we’re trying to work out what the enemy wants and how they will strive to succeed. There’s some real emotional moments along the way mixed with scheming, grief and tedious alliances. I love to see Thea, Wilder, kipp and cal on page whenever possible as they always add to the story.

The ending is everything I wanted it to be and I’m so sad it’s all over, can we optimistically pray for a further spin off or novella?? Please??

Picking up pretty much exactly where we left off in Thorns & Fire, which is a relief considering that cliffhanger! Wren and Darian’s arranged marriage was a brutal thorn in the coffin for the ending of Thorns & Fire, but almost immensely I was rewarded with ✨information✨. Which is one thing I LOVE about Helen Scheuerer’s writing style—she doesn’t drone on endlessly without providing information. The story actually progresses at an ideal pace and I never find myself “skimming” to get to the action.
The characters we all know and love are out in full force too. (I will never be able to get enough of Kipp and his antics.) From heartfelt moments stolen in the midst of war and uncertainty, to stress-inducing battle scenes leaving you short of breath and anxious, this book has it all…and then some. I found myself, on multiple occasions, tearing up both out of joy and sadness. Simple conversations and moments between beloved characters got me in my feels. I’ll certainly miss them when this is all over.
These books are PROOF an author doesn’t need to spend 1000+ pages per book establishing characters and a readers’ connection to them. I’ve been in love with every character nearly from the moment they first came on the page and that alone, makes me believe in magic a little bit.
What an absolutely marvelous end to a perfectly written story. Here’s hoping that Helen finds a way to continue the stories in this universe because I am obsessed with every bit of it.

This book from start to finish had me biting my nails! So many twists and turns I was spiralling! I can't reiterate how much I love this world, love this pair and love all the supporting/ cross over characters!

What will Helen do next?! All I know is whatever she writes I will definitely read it!

I am devastated to say goodbye to Thezmarr, but this truly was the perfect ending! Everyone's story lines wrapped up beautifully, while still leaving room for spin-offs? 👀 I know I'm being delulu, but I can't help myself! I love these characters so much!

Helen wrote another action-packed story full of surprises and the most delightful feet-kicking moments! Being the culmination of Legends of Thezmarr and Ashes of Thezmarr, I can't say much else without spoilers!

I loved this series so much, along with Legends of Thezmarr, it's become one of my absolute favorites!

"This woman was a storm incarnate, and gods, did he relish seeing her rage... behind the unassuming facade was a ruthless vixen and he fucking loved it."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I can't eloquently put into words the significant impact that this universe has had on me.
To think that, for now, the story is over? Brings me to utter tears.

Helen has such a way with words in all of her books - she builds tension, her stakes are freaking HIGH, her spice is HOT, the MMCs are top tier book boyfriend material, and the FMCs are fucking fierce and deadly.

Silver & Smoke was the absolute perfect ending for this series, and this universe.
I truly loved seeing Wren unravel the world created by a patriarchy.
Every aspect of this universe was woven intricately into this last instalment and it made my little heart absolutely SOAR.

Wren remains every inch ferocious and independent as ever, and Torj continues to be just as devoted and yearning for Wren as we would expect him to be.
They are both so protective and possessive over one another that it literally HURTS.

"This - what existed between them - was worth fighting for with everything she had."

What started as reading The Legends of Thezmarr because I'd heard raving reviews, to then being welcomed into The Laughing Fox Street Team to ARC read the entirety of The Ashes of Thezmarr?
Absolutely surreal.
Not only that, but I have made lifelong friends due to this universe; and for that, I am eternally grateful.

Thank you, Helen. Not only for the opportunity to read this eARC, but for giving me the absolutely honour of being a part of your journey in completing this series.
This is my number 1 romantasy universe in existence, and I honestly cannot believe I was able to participate in the level I have.

Silver & Smoke is the kind of series finale that makes you both incredibly satisfied and a little heartbroken that it’s over, and I loved every second of it.

picking up right where Thorns & Fire left off, this final book in the series throws us right back into the desperate race to save Torj (and the world!) as danger closes in. the stakes feel impossibly high and yet I appreciated the fact that the story never loses sight of the deeply personal journey at its core.

without a doubt, what I loved most was how perfectly Helen Scheuerer balanced everything - the action, the politics, the heartbreak, and the slow-burn, soul-bond romance. Wren and Torj’s relationship has always been one of the series’ strongest threads, but here it absolutely shines. the chemistry is electric, the devotion palpable, and the payoff after all their struggles is more than worth the wait. add in the fated bond and a solid dose of found-family dynamics, and it’s basically everything I want in a romantasy!

by the time I got to the final page, I was an emotional mess in the best way possible. Silver & Smoke isn’t just a satisfying end to a beloved trilogy; it’s a love letter to fans who’ve followed these characters through every heartbreak, victory and impossible choice.

thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘯 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘶𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘰𝘳 𝘉𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘜𝘒 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘙𝘊!

𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 & 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐞 is the 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙯𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙧 series, where Wren Embervale, who needs to play the role of a dutiful fiancée while her body and soul yearns for Torj, who would lay down his life for her? Will the tangled threads of political necessity leave her kingdom – and her heart – in ashes.

This final installment picks up directly after the events of 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐬 & 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞, where it is revealed that Wren is unwillingly engaged to Darian Devereaux, the stakes higher and the secrets deadly. I loved how there wasn't miscommunication between Wren and Torj — which further solidified my love for these characters because of the trust they have for each other and the lengths they would go for each other.

This was a brilliant final installment to a well loved series — the end of an era to an amazing series that spanned nine books. There were so many expectations for this book and I can positively say that I was truly enriched by this book and it felt like the most perfect ending this series could get! I was so amazed and didn't feel like leaving this world because of how well Helen Scheuerer wrote this series. If this is the end of the Thezmarr world, this is an amazing and emotional book to end this series.

I was entirely hooked and immersed, in extreme awe that this series was going to end. There was a perfect balance of romance and world-building, and the forbidden romance trope took a different turn due to the circumstances in this book. The world-building continues to expand and we learn a lot more about this world and the characters, a deeper dive into the history and backstories, and very much anticipated revealtions unfolded along with jaw-dropping plot twists. Despite this being the final book, we were taken on a short adventure to new places and reunited with Thezmarr for a short but memorable time.

I had so many feelings throughout this book — I laughed, cried, screamed, snorted the fuck out when a plot twists was so unexpected, got angry at a few characters and gasped. Scheuerer does an amazing job with still having plot twists that had me laughing and my jaw on the floor and a few mystery aspects that continued to blow my mind away.

My favourite part of this series is the characters. Each and every character is worth remembering, from their distinct personalities, quirks and traits — sometimes behaviour — which made this series more memorable. The found family aspect is definitely a major highlight, the friendships that brewed in the world were all fantastic. I loved reading about the found family with Thea, Wilder, Wren, Torj, Cal, Kipp, Talemir and Malik. The friendships were honestly so amazing, with Wren, Dessa and Zander; Thea, Cal and Kipp; Kipp and Wren; Torj, Wilder, Talemir and Malik and the sisterly bonds between Wren and Thea were so so precious, especially with what they have been through.

𝗘𝗹𝘄𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲 is truly an emotionally complex character. It was such a fulfilling experience to be able to see her character grown from 𝐀𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭'𝐬 𝐕𝐨𝐰 to 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 & 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐞. Her character is richly developed by the end, a truly magnificent outcome. From a young Alchemist to a poisoner-assassin, she has gone through many hardships in her life. Seeing her finally let her heal herself, to not let the survivor's guilt from the first war was truly such a strong step taken by her character. She's still on a path to vengeance — to rightfully claim her throne in Delmira, to make sure that no one abuses the resources and power of her ancestral lands and to stop the Kingsbane Slayer from ruining the peace that their world has finally attained. She's a fierce and headstrong woman who is willing to do anything to protect the people she cares about, to protect and make the right choices at whatever personal cost impending her. She grew into an awe-inspiring character who learned as a person to learn that it was okay to feel what she felt and do what she did. She's devoted to Torj, incredibly and deeply in love with him.

𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗶 𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗸 is a staple for the best book male love interests to exist. The amount of trust this man holds for the woman he loves — even when she needed to marry the man he loathed, was such an incredible example of the trust and devotion he held for her. He's been extremely devoted to her for five years, pined, longed and yearned for her and his patience was paid off in the most fulfilling way. The final parts of his backstory and family backgrounds were revealed, his journey and struggles were trials of his own, adding a layer of depth to his character. Torj is the kind of character who doesn't ask for help, who doesn't want to feel or to be seen weak but is someone whom his close friends and family can rely on, who people respect and who would do anything for them. He's willing to do anything for the people he cares about, a headstrong person who is loyal to the core, even during his last moments. He's always known for fierce and grumpy personality but seeing his soft and tender side, laying entire raw and bare in front of Wren without any feelings for need consequences and to be loved and cared for by her was his salvation.

Their chemistry was sizzling hot from their first interaction and it was a worthy pay-off in this book. This book truly tested their love, trust and devotion towards their counterpart and it proved that they love each other deeply and belong with each other. The spice was spicing, their romance forbidden because she's engaged to a man he loathed. They had a lot of challenges to overcome and they did it with each other, trusting each other in every step without a single-drop of betrayal or distrust. They had the best communication among any other couples I've read about and to see that there weren't any problems that arose from miscommunication shocked me and further solidified their soulmate bond.

There is strong political commentary and themes explored in this series and book, playing a major role. There's so much discussed and shown — how propaganda is spread and loyalties shift accordingly, how misogyny and patriarchy doom society and existence, a woman undermined because of her gender, how sometimes, justice can only be seeked when you're willing to take it upon yourself to enact it. Propaganda as a tool showed how dangerous it was when it spread across quickly, changing and twisting the narrative of events, how bias changed the reality of the situation in books and history accounts and bigotry and misogyny runs deep in politics.

This book ended an era. It's so hard to let go of a world that you were truly passionate about reading, a series that made me laugh, cry, scream, and gasp. I'm emotional at the fact that there are probably no more Thezmarr books left. I will be in love with this series, it's characters and the amazing plotlines that grappled and had me hooked from the beginning. 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐫 & 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐞 was a brilliant and fulfilling conclusion to this series and I cannot wait to see what Helen Scheuerer has planned next for us!

Thank you to NetGalley and Tor books for the opportunity to ARC read this book.

This is the perfect round up to the ashes of Thezmarr trilogy by Helen Scheuerer and in my opinion, the best book of the series.

I absolutely adored the relationships, yearning and angst of this book.

Torj and Wren are really being tested throughout this and my heart ached for them while reading. Wren has made the decision to accept a proposal from someone who is not her soul bonded in order to save his life.
On top of this, war is coming and poor Wren is navigating this while also pandering to the politics demanded of her now that she is the Heir to the Dalmerian throne.

Wren, Torj and their family/friends are doing whatever they can to defeat the enemy and finally let the people of the midrealms know peace.

This book made me laugh, cry, swoon and pine. I loved the character development, little snippets into their past and the clear chemistry and love between them. That along side the found family in this was so lovely to read and it truly was everything I wanted it to be.

Silver & Smoke by Helen Scheuerer
Ashes of Thezmarr third and final book
Releases 11/6!

Thank you to Helen and Anne for entrusting me with an early copy and for having me back at the tavern!

Dedication: "To all the women who've been told to smile. Let the world see what happens when you do."

Dual POV, forced proximity, bodyguard, forbidden romance, feminine rage, alchemist FMC, jealous and brooding warrior MMC, mental heath rep, found family, forced betrothal (that we don't want), soul bond, rush to find a cure, alchemy to save the world, tension and yearning, plots, storm magic, twists and reveals, on the verge of war, trying to gain allies/raise an army, fighting dark magic, my wife, touch her and find out

This final book of the series and our last trip to Thezmarr (at least for now) is perfection! Chef's kiss, no notes! It was tense, there were ups and downs and alllll the emotions, and I adored being back in this world! After Helen left me stunned at the end of book 2, I have been so anxious to get my hands on this book! Book 2's ending was so devastating and yet so powerful and set this book up so nicely. I adore Torj and Wren and the rest of our crew so very much. We got jealous Torj while he had to stick to their plan as Wren tried to save him from a poison that was slowly killing him. We got brilliant Wren who had the weight of the world on her shoulders but also had her found family around her. So many faces make appearances. I laughed and I cried and gosh, I love these characters and this world so much. It is so bittersweet for this series to be ending, but wow, what an ending it was!

My truth is that I love you more and more every day, if that’s even possible after the past thirteen years of loving you. If life has taught me anything, Embers, it’s that not much can stand in the way of that.

Every time I step into the Midrealms I’m left in awe of a world crafted with such intricate and insane detail it reminds me why I love anything Helen Scheuerer writes. Scheuerer does not spare a single thread of a characters’ storyline or interconnected plot line - she gathers them all like Wren Embervale gathers her alchemical elements and cares for them with such devotion we have no choice but to call her the Queen of the Romantasy genre.

Silver & Smoke, the much-anticipated finale of the Ashes of Thezmarr series, solidifies that claim tenfold. While seeing this epic romantasy series come to an end carries the heaviest of bittersweet notes, it’s worthy of remembering that we get to carry this story for eternity, loving the story of Wren and Torj long after the last page turn. That’s the gift Thezmarr, the Midrealms, and Scheuerer has given us as readers and I couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of its journey.

Seeing Wren and Torj’s love story come to its end in blistering heat, lightning-paced chaos, and enchanting intrigue, is exactly how I wanted the finale to go. I expected no less than the most emotionally devastating highs and lows from Silver & Smoke and Scheuerer delivered it proudly. The fact we got to see Talemir? MALIK? I mean, come on! I never expected that in a thousand years, and I cried when they made it to the page. That’s the kind of memory I want to have when I finish a series - surprise, happiness, and a longing to always remain in its inked pages.

I can’t believe it’s over. Like....someone come hold me, for real.

Thank you Helen , truly, for leaving us with the best and most beautifully wrapped gift of a series-end I’ve ever read. The Midrealms have left an undeniable mark on my heart, and you have my devotion as a fan for anything you write in the future!

It’s always bitter sweet when one of your favorite series wraps up. I loved being back in the midrealms with the gang. This book is packed with political intrigue, tension and high stakes! It was the perfect conclusion to Torj and Wren! Wren is one of my top fmcs of ALL time! I will miss these MCs so much. But now I’m ready for some spin offs!
