Irish folk tales, Wizard of Ozz, Harry Potter and a bit of Nessie. Throw them together in a giant cauldron and you get the wonderful book that is Seekers!
Playing hide and seek can be dangerous, especially if you wander into the forest behind the school. Because you never know where you will end up, and who you’ll meet.
Roise and Caite follow their friend Isla down the embankment in a game of hide and seek, and end up in the forgotten land of Collin Dubh, where magical creatures roam and danger lurks around corners.
They have to save Isla from the wicked witch, who is out to devour them all in a last resort attempt to restore her powers.
They get help from a sea creature, fairies, pixies, mermaids and a giant dog and have to work together to outsmart the wicked witch.
It all comes to a literal blow in the last remaining village in the Kingdom, where they will either crumble, or save their new found friends.
This was a really interesting story which I think is going to appeal to young readers interested in books about female friendships, magic and Irish folklore.
Book 2 is in the making, and will answer the question if the witch is really gone for good. Cannot wait!

I have loved this story. The story of this book is captivating and intriguing. The characters and the environment come alive on the page.
This book brings adventure, friendship and bravery alive. It is an inspirational read for young readers, showing that they can overcome anything with hope and bravery and that their biggest fears can be conquered not alone but with the help of strong friendships.
Although this book is aimed for early teens and young adults, I feel it can be loved and enjoyed by anyone. I like the fact that, in the beginning, the author puts in that extra effort to explain how to pronounce characters’ names and feel this could have been done throughout the book as I did struggle with the pronunciation of some of the Irish names.
The book gives good details of the Irish mythology and history although it reads as a fairytale adventure.
The inspiration for the story really shines through in the writing and is portrayed well.
The writing is descriptive without being overly so and allows you to immerse yourself in the story.
I loved the characters ,especially Plessy, and the bonds which are made throughout the story.
I can’t wait to return to Colin Dubh.

Two young sisters find themselves engaged in a game of hide and seek, not knowing they’ll be seeking their friend into another world where they learn the real meaning of seeker. Chased by an evil witch, meeting plessy, the Clan 😩😭
Ends on a cliff hanger, BUT I’m so excited for more of this and I’m truly ecstatic for the return of the seekers!
Absolutely amazing, the first 40-50% felt like world building and getting your facts but the last 50% was literally some of the best fantasy I’ve read. The magic, the creatures, the sisters, the details.
Truly amazing.
Ends on a cliff hanger, BUT I’m so excited for more of this and I’m truly ecstatic for the return of the seekers!

First things first: what an incredible journey. The Seekers is a wonderfully unique, vivid YA fantasy. At its core, it is the story of two sisters who care for each other very deeply, and how their relationship grows and changes under duress.
The characters Róise and Caití are well written and fleshed out, and I think the character development was one of my favourite aspects of the book. The way the relationship between the sisters was written rang true to me, having siblings myself. I loved how Caití went from almost hero-worshipping her sister to realising that she was equally strong and capable, and how Róise went from thinking she had to protect her sister from the world to helping her grow instead. I particularly related to Róise, being the eldest of my own siblings.
I couldn't write a review without mentioning Plessy - she was also a huge hit for me, and I loved her playful nature!
I adored the stories that took place within the story, which was a brilliant device to give background and context to some of the characters' origins in an interesting manner. The action scenes were also well written - I often find these sorts of scenes can be rushed too much and leave me feeling like part of the information is missing, but that was not the case at all for The Seekers!
The only things that were not to my taste were firstly, the frequency of changes in point of view - these happened multiple times in most chapters, mostly between the two sisters but sometimes with other characters as well. Secondly, leading on from this, was that sometimes scene changes happened with no break in chapter or any other feature to distinguish one scene to the next, which meant that sometimes I had to go back and reread a page to fully understand what was going on. Overall, these are minor niggles in an otherwise brilliant book.
This book definitely left me wanting more, and I already can't wait to delve back into the world of Collin Dubh in book two - ESPECIALLY after that ending!

Step into the world of Collin Dubh. Follow Róise and Caití as they embark on journey to find a friend, that becomes so much more.
I loved every second of this story. The dynamic between the sisters and the attention to their individual nature is something that drew me in to the story. Following the twists and turns with the history unfolding throughout, makes for a captivating read. The way that this is written makes it so easy to immerse yourself in the story and feel the fear, triumph ,frustration and more the whole way through! Plessy is a firm favourite and I loved the use of imagery as a communication form. I cannot wait for the next book!

I met this author at a book event and he was lovely and I purchased this book there and then. I decided to read it and it wasn’t for me. This book is a YA and I do read a lot of YA books but I feel that it is aimed at a much younger YA audience than I thought. I can a thousand percent seeing younger children loving this book and I am definitely going to pass it on to my niece to read! I think she’d really enjoy this. Absolutely nothing wrong with the book or writing itself I just felt a bit too old for it!

I can not wait for the next book in the series. I really enjoyed reading it and i finished it in a few days I was hooked. The book was very well written I love how when there was a name or place immediately following it was how to pronounce it. I think its easier to really immerse yourself in a story when you can pronounce the places and people names. My only complaint was sometimes there was too much detail and other times there was not enough.

This is a great mix of old and new. Girl power at its finest. Just saving the world one monster at a time ridding it from dark magic on a journey for the only magic item that can save the world. Classic epic fantasy. Love! Very original in its own way. Great mix of lore. Well done very engaging easy to follow and visualize. Very cool.

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE a mythology-based book, and Seekers is no different.
Seekers is a well written, reimagined Irish mythology tale about two young sisters facing an evil witch Anrud in an evil land - Collin Dubh. Immediately, this book draws you in with descriptive imagery and intrigue; this is a great story for young teenagers going through their high school (primary) years. The sisters, Caitì and Rósie are written well as young girls with the typical disagreements but with the protective love and trust of real siblings, and true friendship with their friend Isla, even with the typical jealousy of eachother and their friend.
This book is an action filled, on the edge of your chair tale of two young heroines giving their all to help their friend - and the new acquaintances they meet along the way. Caitì and Rósie both have their own unique strengths-and some shared ones. This is a fantastic story about two young girls finding their strength and trust in each other and in themselves.
Colin has such a descriptive way of writing it’s easy to feel like you’re in the story yourself; seeing the forest, the shore, under the lake and of course, standing face to face with the characters themselves.

What an incredible story this book is. Two sisters 18 months between them in age go to school and decide to play hide and seek with their friend like they used to in primary school. Only this time it takes a darker turn. Teaming up to be the seekers of their friend Isla they end up in the forbidden corner of the school yard whilst searching for Isla. Realising down in the brambles is the only place she could have gone they reluctantly go down, only to be taken to another world.
Róise and Caitie realise they have gone somewhere else that feels dark and gloomy but they underestimate the darkness that is coming for them.
The world building is incredible, so much detail has gone in to help you imagine where the girls are I could actually visualise the kingdom and how dark and horrible it must have felt. The characters are described in such detail you feel like you know each character that is mentioned throughout the book.
I was hooked from the first chapter with this book and could not stop reading. I kept wanting to know what other dangers the girls were going to face and how they were going to rescue their friend and get back to their world without people realising they were missing.
The cliffhanger at the end of the book had me screaming at the pages and I cannot wait for book 2 to be released so I can find out what happened!!

This is a delightful tale of intrigue, adventure, disaster, and a lot of personal growth for two brave young girls named Caiti and Roise. The girls find themselves in a magical land to save their friend, Isla, only to face an evil witch who plans to feast on them and keep Collin Dubh in darkness.
The story is beautifully written, and I was completely captivated from beginning to end. Even though it's aimed at younger readers, I, as an adult, found it truly engaging. Who doesn’t enjoy a fantasy adventure with an evil witch and a battle against a fae army? The vivid descriptions of the characters and scenes helped me feel immersed in the story.
As I reached the end of chapter three, I felt it could use a bit more closure—finishing on such a crucial moment with the girls caught in creeping blackness left me wishing for a clearer resolution or at least a hint of how they might escape.

First off this was not a bad book all in all, it was just not for me.
The book is YA, this is still a genre I can usually enjoy, however this was verrry YA, more something I would recommend to a mature child - reading it felt more like reading a children’s story.
I picked this book up at an event from the author himself and it was lovely to meet him however the book just didn’t match the vibes I was expecting from the description given.
The Irish fantasy aspect was fun, and I was invested in the beginning all be it seeming on the childish side but as the book went on this just got a bit much for me personally.

This book really got me hooked! The environmental scenery and the characters were so well written, it felt like an actual living place. I loved the Mythology and history that were incorporated into the world building, it felt very whimsically written to the point it blended in perfectly with the story.
The descriptions for things were well done and didn't overstay their welcome, something that made the sisters all the more real. And the action had me at the edge of my seat!

I absolutely loved The Seekers! Colin O’Neill has created a story that is both imaginative and compelling, filled with mystery, adventure, and characters you quickly become invested in. From the very beginning, I was pulled into the world of Colin Dubh-there’s a real sense of tension and discovery as the characters, Roise and Caiti, uncover secrets and face unexpected challenges. The pacing is excellent, with just the right mix of action and quieter, thought-provoking moments that kept me fully engaged.
What impressed me most was how seamlessly the author combined an exciting storyline with deeper themes of friendship, courage, and resilience. Each chapter left me eager to turn the page, needing to know what happened next.
