It's Me or Her

Rate this book
As my eyes slowly start to open, I find myself at the foot of the stairs. I should be confused about how I got here. But I already know. I didn’t trip. It wasn’t an accident. She pushed me.

Me: Before I met Andrew, I never believed in love at first sight. But when we meet for the first time, I know he’s meant for me. Within days, we start a whirlwind romance and over candlelit dinners, we plan our dream future.

When Andrew suggests we move in together, I say yes instantly. But the dream soon shatters when I see his mother at the front door. Watching me carry my bags upstairs, I can feel her piercing stare. She doesn’t want me here.

Her: I watch in horror as Daisy relaxes into her new home with my Andrew. I’ve met women like Daisy before, I know what they’re capable of. And I will do anything to protect him.

But then I remind Daisy has come into our lives like a moth to a flame. There’s only ever been room for one woman in this house. And I already know how this love story is going to end.

A totally gripping and pulse-pounding psychological thriller packed with twist after twist. Perfect for fans of The Housemaid, The Girl on the Train and The Wife Between Us.

Holy Crap! This book was addictive, mysterious, twisted, and hard to put down! Whew! Ever read a book where you think you know how things are going to turn out and then Wham-O the author throws in a jaw dropping twist? That was my experience with It's Me or Her! This was such a clever, well thought out, jaw dropping, roller coaster of a ride, psychological thriller! I loved that there was no down time or slow moments in this book.

When Daisy meets Andrew, she knows that he is the one for her! She can't believe her luck. He came along at just the right time. When things go wrong at her flat, Andrew suggests that Daisy move in with him, and she agrees. Daisy did not know that Rachel, his mother, would be there as well. Oops! I guess Andrew so was smitten her forgot to mention that little fact. Things are uncomfortable and tense from the get-go......

This book has a lot going on and I was all there for it. We see Daisy struggling with her situation and confiding to her friend, Aisha. I felt for her and her plight. I thought I knew what was happening, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. I love it when that happens. I love when an author can throw in a shocking twist or two. I love when they can pull the wool over my eyes and Victoria Jenkins certainly did that.

This was such a fun, dramatic, fast paced and thrilling page turner!

Buckle up, because this book is a wild ride from start to finish! The premise grabbed me right away. The plot was a bit confusing when I hit a certain section of the story, but once everything clicks, it’s impossible to put down.

The standout for me was the authentic friendship between Daisy and Aisha. Their dynamic is absolutely heartwarming, and it’s one of the few friendships in thrillers that actually feels real and grounded. Watching them navigate the chaos together added a lovely layer of depth to the story.

If you love fast-paced, thought-provoking reads, this one’s for you. While some twists are predictable, there are still enough surprises to keep you hooked. A great mix of suspense and emotional depth, it’s definitely worth sticking with as the story unfolds!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of It's Me or Her by Victoria Jenkins. This was quite an addictive read! I was drawn into it right from the beginning. There were a few confusing parts along the way, but, once they sorted themselves out, it was once again on the right track. A couple of twists along the way created intrigue. It was a fun book to read and to try to figure out. Some parts easier than others. It was definitely fast paced and it kept me wanting to read on. I have never read anything by this author but I will seek out more of her books. A 4 star rating from me. Go ahead and give it a try! #VictoriaJenkins #Bookouture

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Gripping, Emotional, and Unputdownable
It’s Me or Her by Victoria Jenkins is a twisty thriller that hooked me within the first few pages and didn’t let go. Jenkins masterfully weaves together present-day suspense with emotionally charged flashbacks and dreams, creating a layered story that’s both gripping and deeply moving.
While I had a feeling about the twist early on, it still managed to shock me — the execution was just that good. The emotional depth surprised me even more. I never expected a thriller to bring me close to tears, but Liam’s letter toward the end absolutely broke me. My heart ached for him, but I was also satisfied with how things wrapped up between him and Daisy.
Daisy is a compelling lead, and her friendship with Aisha added a great dynamic that made the story feel even more real. The characters are well-drawn, and the pacing is spot-on — I devoured this book way too fast!
This was my first read by Victoria Jenkins, and it definitely won’t be my last. If you love emotional thrillers that keep you guessing and tug at your heart, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Daisy, a young woman working in a dept store, and living in a damp dreary flat, becomes acquainted with a handsome man, Andrew, who seeks her opinion when shopping for a birthday gift for his mother. Daisy is mugged on her way home after work and is surprised to bump into Andrew on the train as she tries to trivialise her experience & injuries. Andrew however seems kind and genuinely concerned. He gives Daisy his business card and she makes contact some days later. They begin a relationship which on the surface seems ideal. Andrew is kind, caring, self-sufficient and seems genuinely smitten with Daisy until something goes wrong at Daisys flat, creating a scenario where she needs to stay with Andrew. It’s at this stage Daisy is introduced to Andrew’s mother Rachel, who seems somewhat aloof with the new house guest. Some of her questions are intrusive and Daisy feels that Andrew doesn’t recognise this behaviour as inappropriate. In the meantime, Daisys friend is concerned that things are moving too quickly, and Daisy is overhearing strange conversations in the house. What is Rachel up to?
I read this story in one sitting, it was brilliantly paced and well plotted. Thanks to the author & publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Highly recommended

Daisy works in a department store with zero chance of advancing her career. Each night she goes home to a miserable flat with a sleazy landlord, and her social life is the occasional night out with her colleague Aisha. It’s definitely not the life she dreamed of. But does she really deserve more?

Then she meets Andrew. He's handsome, thoughtful, and rich—basically her real-life Prince Charming. They soon embark on a whirlwind romance and the fiercely independent Daisy finds herself moving into his beautiful home. The only problem? His mother, Rachel, lives there too.

At first, Rachel just seems a bit controlling, but it doesn’t take long for Daisy to realise something darker might be going on. When she ends up at the bottom of the stairs, certain she didn’t trip, her suspicions reach dizzying heights. But how can she prove someone is out to get her?

I thought I knew exactly where this story was heading, but I was completely wrong (and I'll happily own that). The twists were clever, the pacing kept me hooked, and there were moments that genuinely made me stop and go, "Wait, what just happened?" A gripping, twisty read that definitely surprised me!

This was such a fast and addictive read. I loved how the story pulled me in right from the start - Daisy and Andrew’s whirlwind romance, the strange, uneasy vibes from his mother and her sudden appearances, and then the whole “Her” perspective which added that extra layer of tension and mystery. It definitely kept me guessing, and I didn’t see the twist coming!

That said, a couple of the characters felt a little over the top at times (especially Andrew’s mother...), but it didn’t stop me from flying through the pages. If you enjoy fun, psychological thrillers in the vein of The Girl on the Train, this one is worth picking up.

"Daisy finally met the man of her dreams and things went out smoothingly until one day Andrew asks her to move in with him. She discovers Andrew's mother was staying with him for a few days. And soon things went wrong and she discovers Andrew's mother might be behind all these."

A psychological thriller that keeps your mind spinning with its plot twists.

I love the experience when I finish good novels and can't wait to share what exactly I felt.

The chapters are short yet beautifully plotted.

My first read from this author and I absolutely loved the experience and would definitely recommend to those who enjoys good gripping thrillers like me.

Definitely a deserving 4.5 star novel.

It’s Me or Her by Victoria Jenkins is a brilliantly crafted psychological thriller that grabbed me from the very first page and refused to let go. Jenkins masterfully blends present-day suspense with emotionally charged flashbacks and dreams, building a layered, twisty story that is both gripping and deeply moving.

The book follows Daisy, a young woman working in a department store and living in a dreary flat. A chance encounter with Andrew, a handsome and seemingly kind man, draws her into what appears to be the perfect relationship. When Daisy is mugged and later bumps into Andrew again, his concern feels genuine, and soon they grow close. But when trouble at Daisy’s flat forces her to stay with him, things begin to shift.

At Andrew’s house, Daisy meets his mother Rachel, whose aloofness and intrusive questions raise red flags. Strange conversations overheard in the house, combined with her friend’s growing concern that things are moving too fast, add to the tension. Jenkins creates a creeping sense of unease that builds perfectly alongside Daisy’s growing doubts.

The characters are vivid and believable—Daisy is a compelling lead, and her friendship with Aisha brings warmth and realism to the story. Andrew’s charm, contrasted with Rachel’s unsettling behavior, keeps you second-guessing everyone’s motives. The pacing is spot-on, and just when I thought I had figured out the twist, Jenkins managed to shock me.

What surprised me most was the emotional depth. Toward the end, Liam’s letter absolutely broke me—it’s rare for a thriller to move me to tears, but this one did. My heart ached, yet I was satisfied with how everything wrapped up between him and Daisy.

This was my first read by Victoria Jenkins, and it certainly won’t be my last. With its addictive plot, emotional intensity, and masterful twists, It’s Me or Her is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers that keep you guessing while tugging at your heart. Highly recommended.

Every day you meet new people. It can be on the street, in a shop, online, at work… When Cupid decides it’s time for Daisy to find the love of her life, she is truly swept off her feet by Andrew and immersed in a world of love, attention, and affection.

Floating on her pink cloud, she moves in with him and meets his mother — and immediately realizes that trouble is on the way. But does Andrew see it too?

I completely connected with Daisy. Often, when things seem too good to be true, they are. Yet some people can be so convincing that you start to doubt yourself. And in order to keep the peace, you just try to rationalize everything…

The moment Andrew introduced Daisy to his mother, my alarm bells also went off. I had a bad feeling and became suspicious as well. I had no idea what was really going on, and I started spinning all kinds of scenarios in my head — but none of them fit the story.

Of course, the author does her utmost to keep us in the dark for as long as possible, and in the end you realize she has succeeded brilliantly in her plan to mislead us and deliver an excellent book.

We are treated to flashbacks that provide background information. After all, it is often tragic events from the past that form the foundation for great stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed all the manipulations and twists. 5 stars.

Thank you.

This was a solid, twisty domestic thriller that kept me guessing right up to the end. I thought I had the twist figured out—and I did get part of it—but there was still more to the story than I expected! I can’t say much without giving spoilers, but let’s just say the reveals were satisfying and tied everything up nicely.
Some of the little frustrations I had while reading ended up being intentional misdirection, which I actually appreciate now that I’ve finished. The alternating perspectives between Daisy and Andrew’s mother added tension and kept the pacing moving.
Overall, a good mystery with a well-done ending and plenty of “wait, what?” moments. Definitely worth a read for fans of domestic suspense and complicated family dynamics.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this arc!

I was gripped from the first page, this book was so twisty I was hooked. Definitely recommend to other thriller readers!

When Daisy meets Andrew, it’s love at first sight- they hit it off straight away and he seems perfect. Andrew suggests they move in together but he fails to tell Daisy that his mother is living with him. She doesn’t want Daisy there. Daisy finds herself at the bottom of the stairs, she didn’t trip or fall, she was pushed.

A dark gripping psychological thriller!

It moved as fast as Daisy's relationship with Andrew did...waaay too fast for my liking!

What a twistfest it turned out to be! I couldn't put it down and found myself racing through the pages a bit like their relationship too!

The red flags flew high and I trusted no-one, especially Rachel...she gave me the ick and her behaviour was quite unsettling and unnerving.

As thrillers go it's addictive reading. It has a solid plot, great characters and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

❤️ARC REVIEW❤️

“As my eyes slowly start to open, I find myself at the foot of the stairs. I should be confused about how I got here. But I already know. I didn’t trip. It wasn’t an accident. She pushed me.”

“I’d willingly have her catch us half-dressed and devouring each other, because she needs to realise that Andrew is no longer her little boy. And mummy dearest needs to see that I’m not going anywhere.”

This is a quick and easy popcorn thriller. Perfect for Freida fans. I didn’t find any of the characters overly likeable but the end twists were fairly good. Hella love bombing and gaslighting throughout. Some of the reviews I’ve seen for this had me SO excited, but for me, there was nothing really groundbreaking here.

Review of ‘It’s Me or Her’ by Victoria Jenkins due to be published on 1 October 2025 by Bookouture.

Daisy has a chance encounter with Andrew at work, the attraction is instant. As she gets to know him, she is unsettled to learn that he lives with his mum, Rachel. When an issue at her flat forces her to move in with Andrew and his mum, Daisy feels apprehensive as she is certain that Rachel doesn’t like her and is trying to get rid of her. Andrew won’t hear a word of it, insisting that Rachel likes her, but if it came to a choice, he’d choose Daisy.

Whilst I had my suspicions about Rachel and her motives, nothing prepares you for the shocking twist that is awaiting at the end of the book!

An outstanding psychological thriller, that I could not put down. The character development is excellent, and the storyline tense and fraught with suspense. A highly recommended read.

Daisy finds herself more than drawn to Andrew. In fact, he is compelling. Addictive. “Like a drug”, as she thought at one point in their relationship. Before meeting Andrew, Daisy’s life was pretty much like anyone else’s life. Day by day, working a steady job, living with general contentment. But, a mugging and a chance meeting, and what would soon become an all-consuming attraction, changed her life’s course.

Circumstances drove her from her home, and right into Andrew’s. However, he doesn’t live alone. His mum, Rachel, lives with him. And, as Daisy painfully learns, a mother with perhaps too much love for her grown son.. Aside from her strong draw to Andrew, Daisy can’t believe how much her life changed so quickly. On the one hand, it seemed logical to slow things down, but on the other hand, have things simply gone out of control by pure coincidence? This question comes to Daisy as she tries to navigate what is going on between her and Andrew, and, unfortunately, Rachel.

Things had gotten out of order at her house. Self-doubt and her OCD gave Daisy pause more than once. This is the intense vibe that flows through the pages of this book. Then, of course, Andrew. Is he too good to be true? Better yet, is he just too much altogether?

What a crafty, twisty, and compelling story. Victoria Jenkins writes fabulous psychological thrillers and this book certainly proves that. As it was easy to see Daisy as a victim of circumstance, it was equally easy to see her life quickly spiral out of control. Self-doubt and her OCD gave Daisy pause more than once. That is what made things work in this story, increasing the intense vibe that flows through the pages of this book.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

It's Me or Her by Victoria Jenkins is a highly recommended popcorn thriller.

Daisy was working at the department store when she first met Andrew and helped him pick out a gift for his mother. Later, she is mugged and her purse is stolen when leaving work. On the train ride home she meets Andrew again and the two eventually go out on a date. When she has dinner at Andrew's house one night she learns his mother, Rachel, lives with him. Their relationship gets more serious so when a problem occurs at Daisy's apartment, Andrew suggests she stay at his house. That's when things really begin to go wrong.

Aisha, Daisy's best friend, is a sounding board for Daisy and the two share all their thoughts with each other. There are chapters with an alternate story line about an unnamed woman going to a care home to see Liam who has locked in syndrome and is unable to talk after an accident. He can communicate with eye movements and an alphabet board. He never seems happy to see his visitor. The two story lines eventually connect.

This is a fast paced thriller with short chapters. In some ways it's almost too fast-paced, losing some depth and credibility along the way, but certainly ramps up the tension quickly. There are plenty of twists and secrets being kept by everyone. It is entertaining and the pages will fly by quickly. You will have doubts about every character and their actions.

It's Me or Her is a good choice for those who like short, fast-paced popcorn thrillers. Thanks to Bookouture for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion.

When Daisy meets Andrew, their connection is instant.. romance, security and the promise of a fresh start. But moving in with him also means moving into his mother's world, and from the moment Daisy arrives she knows she's not welcome. Andrew's mother is protective, possessive, and is convinced no one is good enough for her son. At first, Daisy dismisses the tension as overprotectiveness, but soon her unease grows into fear. Every glance feels loaded, every word like a warning. Then one night, Daisy finds herself at the bottom of the stairs, injured and shaken. She knows it wasn't an accident, she was pushed. As secrets rise to the surface and manipulation tightens its hold, there is one question. In a battle for Andrew's loyalty, how far will each woman go? It's Me or Her takes the familiar setup of a whirlwind romance and twists it into a claustrophobic chilling battle of wits between two women fighting for the same man's loyalty. Daisy is relatable and sympathetic, you want her to find happiness with Andrew, but you can feel the dread as his mother's behavior turns darker, more possessive, and more dangerous. The alternating POVs keep the tension sharp, making you second guess who to trust and who is lying. The pacing is relentless, with just enough secrets and twists to keep you hooked. The ending is shocking yet satisfying, leaving you thinking about just how far obsession, and love, can push someone.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Victoria Jenkins, and Bookouture for this eARC! Publication date is October 1st, 2025.

Everything has been explained perfectly at the end of the book.

Victoria Jenkins knows how to write a very entertaining book, as soon as I read the blurb for this one, I knew it was going to be good. Right from the start you begin on this crazy journey that does not let up and has you swiftly turning the pages.

This is one of those stories where there is three people in the relationship. Daisy meets Andrew when he comes into the store she works in. Daisy works in the perfume department and Andrew is there to buy his mother a birthday gift. From the moment Daisy sets eyes on Andrew, he instantly enraptures her.

The relationship develops quickly and soon it seems the two are inseparable, Andrew then asks Daisy to move in with him, a big step for some people but daisy feels it is the right move and is so happy. However, on the first night she is there having dinner with Andrew a woman appears, Andrew’s mother. Soon her presence in the house becomes more frequent with Andrew then admitting to Daisy that his mother is staying with him for a brief time. I am not going to say anymore as this is where the story then ramps up and what a story it becomes. Highly enjoyable and recommended to all that like a fantastic psychological thriller.

This was such an enjoyable read! From the very first chapter, I was hooked. The story is fast-paced, twisty, and keeps you guessing throughout, making it almost impossible to put down. Daisy is a relatable and compelling protagonist, and I completely connected with her as she navigates a whirlwind romance with Andrew—only to realize that his controlling mother, Rachel, may have darker motives than anyone suspects.

The tension in this book is incredible. Jenkins expertly builds suspense with short, punchy chapters, alternating perspectives, and clever twists that constantly keep you second-guessing everyone’s motives. The story isn’t just a psychological thriller—it’s emotional, gripping, and packed with shocking turns that you won’t see coming. I found myself racing through the pages, eager to uncover the next revelation, and thoroughly enjoyed the clever ways the plot unfolded.

If you love twisty, edge-of-your-seat domestic thrillers with complex characters and nail-biting suspense, It’s Me or Her is definitely for you. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers—they won’t be disappointed!

Another thoroughly twisty work of psychological fiction from this talented author.

Set in Wales, the story starts with Daisy, working in a department store, when she is swept off her feet, by handsome customer, Andrew, as he enlists her help to choose perfume for his mother. As the relationship progresses, Daisy, learns that Andrew's mother, Rachel, is temporarily living with him, a situation Daisy also finds herself in when her flat becomes inhabitable. Daisy is instantly wary of Rachel - as the plot unfold we discover if this is justified. A second story plays out with Liam, a young man in a care facility having had an accident that has left him with locked in syndrome. As the story reaches its climax we discover how these 2 distinct plot themes are linked.

There is a definite element of ‘smoke and mirrors’ at play with some really clever writing. This leads us to make certain assumptions that really change the narrative. I love this, as the reveal when it comes, is spectacular.

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

It’s Me or Her by Victoria Jenkins is twisty, tense, and totally addictive—this is domestic suspense at its most chilling.

From the moment Daisy moves in with Andrew, you know things aren’t going to be simple. The romance is whirlwind, the house is beautiful… and then his mother shows up. What follows is a gripping psychological thriller told from two perspectives: Daisy, trying to build a life with the man she loves, and the woman who’s determined to tear it apart.

Victoria Jenkins does a brilliant job of layering tension. The chapters are short and punchy, the atmosphere claustrophobic, and the sense of dread builds with every page. You’re constantly second-guessing who to trust—and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story flips again.

It’s the kind of book you race through in one sitting, heart pounding and mind spinning. Perfect for fans of The Housemaid or The Wife Between Us, especially if you love stories where family ties turn toxic and secrets refuse to stay buried.

Thank you to Victoria Jenkins, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
