‘Phoebe Macleod writes easy to ready, sweet but not shallow books. She has a lovely writing style and she’s the sort of author that I feel safe with, that I know I’m probably going to love pretty much anything she writes - one of the finish-a-book-and-buy-one-straight-after-on-kindle kinda vibes!‘ Goodreads review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Phoebe MacLeod is married and lives just outside Sevenoaks in Kent. She has two grown-up sons at university, and a disobedient dog. She enjoys reading, cooking, playing the piano and walking the dog. She’s also keen on vintage and classic cars and can often be seen behind the wheel of her own classic - a 1928 Ford Model A.

What started as a typical chicklit romcom, that had reminded me of early 2000s romantic comedy movies, turned into an original thing pretty early on. I loved the unpredictability of one main plot line. I couldn't for the life of me decide if we would have option A or option B in a certain scenario, and that excited me so much! 😉
I loved the Jamaican setting and a glimpse at its culture.
I did find the beginning a bit slow, though. It takes from 7 to 8 chapters to actually get going, and it wouldn't be an issue at all if those chapters gave any important backstory to the main protagonist. They were redundant, but once the actual holiday begins, it's utter chaos! 😅 In a good way!
This started off very strong. Tori is invited to a Jamaican holiday with a group of people. One just happens to be her ex! The other is a grumpy guy that gets on Tori’s nerves. What starts off as a holiday from hell, quickly becomes a little more exciting when Tori befriends the hotel pianist. While navigating a resort that serves no alcohol, a girl that is a control freak, an unwanted roommate…the question is: will Tori end up screaming or having the best time? The first half was great, but the second half began to wane a little. I liked Tori a lot, but I didn’t love the love interest too much. The setting was amazing and the dynamics of group kept things interesting.
Thanks to NetGalley and boldwood books for the e-ARC🫶🏻
This was bit of a disappointing read unfortunately, it feels like this book was all over the place, since the title is deceiving, then you read it and get deceived once more about who the actual love interest is.. it’s kept throwing me off honestly and I didn’t even enjoy the romance nor the love interest.
Sometimes a book arrives at exactly the right moment. Stuck in the grey grip of February, I picked up this book and was instantly transported to sun-drenched Jamaica, complete with warm sand, jerk chicken, and a romantic interest who plays piano like he was born at the keys. It's exactly the kind of escapist read the description promises, and for the most part, it delivers beautifully.
Tori needs a holiday. After a disastrous New Year's Eve that ended with her waking up next to her deplorable ex (a mistake she's desperate to forget), work is manic and London is freezing. So when a colleague offers her a last-minute spot on a group trip to Jamaica, she jumps at it. What could go wrong?
Pretty much everything, as it turns out. Not only is she forced to share a room with Robert, a grumpy, freshly dumped stranger who makes it clear he'd rather be anywhere else, but her ex Stuart has turned up too, hand-in-hand with his relentlessly controlling new girlfriend. And to top it all off? The hotel is alcohol-free. A dry resort in paradise. It's the holiday from hell.
What follows is a warm, funny, and genuinely surprising journey. The early chapters establish the chaos well, and while the setup takes a little while to get going (the first few chapters feel slightly slow), once the holiday begins, the pace picks up considerably.
The real heart of the book lies in two relationships. First, there's Tori and Robert. Their forced-proximity room-sharing situation sparks some genuinely hilarious banter, and watching Robert thaw from insufferable grump to something approaching human is one of the story's unexpected delights. I found myself genuinely invested in their evolving friendship.
Then there's Gabriel, the hotel's pianist. Mysterious, gentle, and deeply connected to Jamaica, he's everything the other men in this book aren't. When Tori starts spending time with him, escaping the group to explore the real Jamaica, eat local food, and hear him play, the story finds its romantic footing. Their connection builds slowly and sweetly, and Gabriel is an absolute highlight: grounded, intriguing, and refreshingly free of the usual romance-novel brooding.
A note on expectations: if you're picking this up based on the title and cover, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. This is *not* a story about Tori getting back with her ex. Stuart is present, but he's a side character, a catalyst for discomfort rather than a romantic contender. The actual love interest emerges organically, and I actually appreciated that the book didn't go where I initially thought it would.
If I have criticisms, they're minor. The third-act conflict feels slightly predictable, and the resolution comes together perhaps a touch too neatly. A few readers might wish for more depth in the romance itself: the chemistry between Tori and Gabriel is sweet, but I wouldn't have minded another chapter or two of them actually being together before the obstacles arrived.
But honestly? This book made me smile. It made me laugh (Robert's transformation is genuinely funny). It made me crave Jamaican food. And it gave me a heroine I genuinely liked: Tori is self-aware, resilient, and refreshingly capable of standing up for herself without needing a man to teach her how. Her friendships with Priya and Rosie are warm and believable, and even the characters designed to irritate (looking at you, Amy) serve their purpose well.
Perfect for fans of early-2000s rom-coms, beach reads, and anyone in need of a winter escape. Phoebe MacLeod has delivered another charming, feel-good story that's easy to devour in a single sitting. Just maybe have some jerk chicken on hand while you read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
“Forgiveness is never easy and we are all our own harshest critics.”
This was exactly the kind of book I needed, the perfect mix of escapism, friendship, sunshine, and chaos. Ex on the Beach by Phoebe MacLeod feels like being dropped into a holiday you didn’t know you desperately needed.
From the very start, this book gives strong holiday romance energy, but what really stood out for me was the friendships and group dynamics. The banter is hilarious, the interactions feel natural, and there were several moments where I genuinely laughed out loud.
I absolutely loved that Phoebe included characters from previous books, it was so nice to see more of Lily and Dan, but Stuart and Amy? What a pair. I honestly could not stand either of them, and the fact that Tori managed to remain as calm and amicable as she did is nothing short of impressive.
Speaking of Tori, she was a fantastic lead. Witty, warm, self-aware, and very easy to root for. I adored her personality and genuinely wanted the best for her. Her friendship group with Rosie and Priya was absolute goals, completely supportive, uplifting, and full of love in a way that felt really refreshing to read, but also true to one another that they would call each other out, that's real friendship and they were easily one of my favourite parts of the book.
I also really enjoyed watching Tori’s developing relationships with Robert and Gabriel. Both felt sweet in different ways, and I’m already crossing my fingers that some of these characters might get their own spin-off stories in the future, one can hope!
Plot-wise, there were a couple of moments that felt a little unrealistic, particularly Tori venturing off with a stranger, which made my inner worrier slightly nervous, but that didn’t stop me enjoying the ride. I did manage to predict the twist towards the end, and I’ll admit I was speed-reading my way there for that I knew it! moment, but it didn’t stop me enjoying the book at all!
This book made me laugh, swoon at the cute moments, and repeatedly urge Tori to just spill the tea already. Most importantly, it completely pulled me out of a reading slump, which is honestly the highest compliment I can give.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for a gifted copy, this one was a joy to read, and the perfect reminder of why a feel-good holiday romance is a great choice of read.
This is a really fun summery read - a great antidote when we haven't seen any sun in over 3 weeks! Tori agrees to taking a last minute spot on holiday in Jamaica - which just sounds beautiful, the descriptions of the places and food were so vivid, and as well as the friend she's agreed to go with, she discovers her ex is there, and the person she was to share a room with is no longer coming, instead that persons ex is there and he has a real attitude problem. Sounds like a nightmare right? How about when she discovers the hotel doesnt serve alcohol... Tori quickly makes lemonade out of her lemons and her resilience is really to be commended. We see a lot of Tori's relationship with besties Priya and Rosie, and they are a wonderfully supportive trio, Priya in particular comes out with some really comedic comments. In Jamaica we meet Gabriel, at first he is really aloof, and I couldn't make my mind up on if we were going to see a better side of him, but once he let Tori inside a little, I completely adored him. I loved hearing them talk about music and imagining the mash-ups that he created. Of course we meet some less favourable characters, and I think when authors can make you really dislike someone then they have done a great job. I particularly enjoyed the epilogue of this, I love seeing updates on characters, especially when there were a number of them in this book we were looking for happy outcomes for. A really fun, light, quick to read story that many will enjoy.
3 1/2 stars! This was a quick fun read with characters that felt real and relatable. The lead character Tori goes through such a range of emotions and life changes, and I felt like I was right there alongside her watching it all play out.
Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC! I enjoyed this one!
Unfortunately this book just wasnt for me. I couldn't connect with any characters at all and felt like everyone was just kinda mean. Maybe just not my type of humor/writing.
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion 🫶🏽
I enjoyed this book. I will admit that I was lured in by the name. Which isn’t really exactly how it sounds. Yes her ex is there. However he isn’t really an integral part of the story. Just a side character.
Tori agrees to go on a couples vacation to Jamaica for her friend Lily to receive the discount. She winds up rooming with Robert. Their banter was top notch! She also meets Gabriel, the hotel pianist. He shows her the local place to grab drinks. He winds up acting as her tour guide. I really enjoyed the setting. The romance is sweet.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the arc of this book. All opinions are my own
Perfect for fans of Sarah Adams, Emily Henry and Tessa Bailey! She heads to Jamaica for rest and relaxation and ends up starring in her own tropical rom-com, featuring an ex she can’t escape, and sparks that refuse to stay on holiday 🌴💘
I fear this book was not for me, but I bet others would enjoy it. It was a very slow burn (and closed door) romance--slow burn to the point that I wasn't exactly sure who the romantic interest even was until almost halfway through.
The basic gist is that Tori agrees to fill an open spot in her coworker's baby-making vacation to a Jamaican resort. What she doesn't realize is that her coworker's brother-in-law, who's also going on the trip, is her awful ex from a while back--who she happened to drunkenly sleep with last month. Another guest? That dude's anal retentive girlfriend. And the guy whose spot she's supposed to fill after he broke up with his girlfriend? He's also coming and refuses to give up his room to Tori.
Ok, so... that's a lot, right? Is she going to get back together with the terrible ex? (Maybe he's not terrible anymore?) Is a romance going to develop between Tori and the forced roommate?? The title suggests the former--EX on the Beach, right? The man on the cover is white with red hair... so that could be either of them... But in actuality, Tori winds up spending more and more time with a delightful Jamaican pianist whose sister runs the resort. WHY IS THAT THE COVER? WHY IS THAT THE TITLE? I would've been more into reading the book if the cover accurately depicted the couple's races as, unfortunately, romcoms with multiracial coupling are so much less prevalent.
Ignoring that, I did like both Tori and Gabriel, the actual love interest. They had good banter, if not amazing chemistry. (I actually liked her interactions with Robert, her forced roommate, much more.) Tori was strong, confident, self-aware (and self-critical, at times). Gabriel was very golden retriever-coded. I also liked how the setting played such a large role in the story. I loved all the cultural tidbits we got about Jamaica, especially the food!
The book was just too slow for me, though. There are many dialogue-heavy interactions, especially at the beginning, that are just pointless and add nothing to the story's plot or characterization. Then, when I wanted things to slow down (to build the romance), the author sped through interactions.
Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC!
PS: After reading others' reviews on NetGalley, it's clear that a good 15-20% of ARC reviewers didn't actually read the book. 😂 Look out for 5-star reviews that talk about how this is a "second chance romance," a "forced proximity romance," or how Tori and Robert have their HEA. Hilarious.
Ex on the Beach by Phoebe MacLeod is a sunny, sarcastic, comfort-read romcom that dropped me straight onto a Jamaican beach while I was still wrapped in a blanket wondering why winter exists. Thank you so much to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for my gifted ARC, which could not have arrived at a better time and absolutely saved my mood.
I’ve always loved Phoebe MacLeod’s books, but this one felt especially indulgent in the best way. Tori is exhausted, emotionally over it, and still haunted by an ex who should have stayed firmly in the past. After a regrettable New Year’s Eve decision, she escapes London for a tropical holiday, and honestly, I was ready to follow her with my emotional baggage and a carry-on. The setup alone is romcom gold, but the execution is what really shines.
Forced proximity? Check. Grumpy roommate with hidden depths? Check. An ex turning up uninvited with a shiny new girlfriend? Unfortunately, also check. The banter between Tori and Robert is where this book truly sparkles. It’s sharp without being cruel, funny without trying too hard, and full of those small, human moments that make you feel like you know these characters. I laughed out loud more than once, and yes, I also did the thing where you kick your feet and grin at your Kindle like a fool.
What I really appreciated is how grounded this story feels beneath the sunshine and cocktails. It’s about second chances, but also about boundaries, friendship, and figuring out what you actually want when life feels a bit messy. It’s cozy, low-spice, and emotionally safe, which made it incredibly comforting to read.
One line that perfectly captures the heart of the book is: “Sometimes the worst timing brings you exactly where you’re meant to be.” That sums up Tori’s journey and why this story works so well.
Boldwood truly never disappoints, and it’s a privilege to read these books early. This was a fun, light, escapist read that still had depth, and it will absolutely be a book club recommendation from me. I already can’t wait for whatever Phoebe MacLeod writes next.
Tori works in London. It’s the middle of winter, and she is in need of a holiday. She agrees to a group holiday with her friends. Upon her arrival, she finds her ex on the same trip with his girlfriend and learns that she will be sharing a room with Robert who is going through a break up.
During her time in Jamaica, she makes an effort to have her own adventure. In spending time away from the group, Tori meets Gabriel. She learns that Gabriel is a world-renowned pianist spending time in Jamaica with his family. They form a connection and their chemistry builds over the course of the novel.
I enjoyed Gabriel and Tori’s story, and they had great chemistry. I thought their relationship and the novel were well paced. I also enjoyed reading about the culture of Jamaica and how Gabriel shows Tori his experience growing up and living in Jamaica.
I liked Gabriel and reading about his passion for music and how he thought about going beyond the expectations of genres of music (e.g. classical, rock, or pop), showing how it can be adapted and how music transcends one genre. For Gabriel music is music.
The characters were human, and Gabriel reminds Tori that we are all human. Life has messy moments and an important lesson Tori learns is forgiving herself.
Just as Tori is looking for a break from winter and the cold, readers can find a holiday in this book. It’s also a great read to take to the beach on a holiday! This book has banter and levity. Not only do we see the relationship between Tori and Gabriel, but also we see the friendship between Tori and Robert develop.
This is the second book I read by Phoebe MacLeod, and I enjoyed the story! I look forward to reading Phoebe’s other books.
Thank you to Phoebe MacLeod and Love Books Tours for the gifted copy and opportunity to be part of the tour! I was provided a copy of this book for free and am leaving an honest review.
Tori has always loved New Year’s Eve and this year she has agreed to attend 3 parties. The first 2 are fun as she meets up with friends and she almost decides she has had enough alcohol and should skip the third. However, her friends urge her to come to the nightclub where she imbibes even more alcohol. When she wakes the next morning with a terrible handover, she finds herself in an unknown place and beside her is her deplorable ex. She had dated him when she was in uni but they broke up as she was cruel to her. She is horrified and quickly dresses and heads home.
Back at work where things are busy, a co-worker says that with the weather so awful, she wants to take a trip to the Caribbean with two other couples and she wants Tori to go along. However, at the airport, she finds herself not rooming with a gal but the woman’s obnoxious boyfriend as the couple has just broken up. Not only is that bad but her smirking ex shows up with his girlfriend. How can things get this bad?
Tori is a person who tries to make the best of things and works to make the situation better against all odds. As the resort is alcohol-free, she heads down the beach to a place recommended by the fabulous pianist who plays at the resort. He is so kind and they have lovely talks. When she learns who he really is, she is intrigued by what he does. As they get to know one another, she wonders if there is a future for her with him.
What a delightful story. I loved Gabriel and thought Throbbert was a total hoot. However, Any was so obnoxious. How anyone put up with her is beyond me. Such a great ending. Enjoy!
Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
What a fun, relaxing, low-angst romcom that made me want to head straight for Jamaica!
Tori made the huge mistake of a drunken hookup with her ex-boyfriend on New Year's Eve, and now her friends are convinced she's either still into him or ready to make a similar misstep. So she gets talked into taking someone's place on a trip to an all-inclusive Jamaican resort. And disaster ensues: she thought she'd be sharing a room with another woman, but instead the woman's ex shows up (Robert, who's a complete jerk); turns out Tori's ex is on the trip with his annoying and bossy girlfriend (who he cheated on with Tori), the resort doesn't serve alcohol, the list goes on.
One fun part? Gabriel, the resort pianist. They find a connection, though it takes her some time to get him to open up, and he takes her all over the island and gets her away from the crazy.
This book was a fun, easy read that I enjoyed from start to finish. The group moments were hilarious, and I loved Tori's comeback and ways of putting awful Amy in her place. I loved how Tori and Robert managed to find friendship and solidarity. And the connection between Tori and Gabriel was sweet and sexy at the same time (closed door). The characters were a bit one-dimensional but that's what I expect in a light beach read. Overall, I really enjoyed it and am happy I read it.
Thank you to Boldwood Books for my advance e-book. All thoughts and opinions are mine.
Ex on the Beach was not exactly what I was expecting from the title, but this ends up being a delightful rom com with more than Tori, the main character having relationship issues. This is the second Phoebe MacLeod novel I have read and once again I enjoyed it. Tori, after a regrettable New Year's Eve gets the opportunity to leave cold, dreary London and go on a trip to Jamaica as a fill in for a small group where one of the couples has just broken up. Her roommate gets changed at the last minute and she ends up sharing with Robert who she butts heads with almost immediately. The back and forth between these two characters is amazing and quite comical. Her ex and his girlfriend are also in this group unbeknownst to her and her ex's girlfriend is controlling and insecure in her relationship. What else could go wrong? The resort that they are staying at is an all-inclusive wellness resort that does not serve alcohol. Tori, however, does make friends with the piano player in the lounge and sparks ensue. Will this be just a vacation romance or will she crack his shell and become much more? I loved the group dynamics of this group because I found it relatable as to what vacationing in a group can be like. I look forward to more books from this author and I highly recommend it as an escape from the dreary winter !
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC in return for my honest review.
After a stressful start to the year, Tori jumps at the chance to escape cold London for a last-minute vacation in Jamaica. But her relaxing getaway quickly turns complicated when she’s forced to share a room with a grumpy stranger and runs into her ex—who’s brought his current girlfriend along. Determined not to let the drama ruin her trip, Tori tries to enjoy the sun, beaches, and unexpected connections that might make the holiday more life-changing than she planned.
This book is SO good. Like, so so so good. I loved Tori right away—she’s hilarious, relatable, and the kind of main character you can’t help but root for. Her friends are an absolute riot and added so much fun to the story.
What starts out as a horrible vacation situation turns into something completely different. Watching Tori take control of the trip, make the best of it, and end up having an amazing time was so satisfying. By the end, her whole life had completely changed in the best way.
Some of my favorite moments were when Tori finally stood up for herself—especially with Robert and definitely Amy. Amy is just awful, and seeing her finally get put in her place was incredibly satisfying.
This was such a fun, feel-good read with great humor, messy situations, and a main character you’ll be cheering for the whole time. I absolutely loved it.
Thank You Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the arc.
Ex on the Beach is a funny, chaotic story about Tori, a woman who, in a moment of loneliness—and far too much alcohol—makes a very bad decision: sleeping with an ex from her college years on New Year’s. Trying to be supportive, she agrees to go on a tropical holiday with a friend and colleague and her group of friends. Unfortunately, the trip quickly turns into a nightmare when she finds herself stuck on vacation with people she’s never met… including that same ex and his long-term girlfriend. Setting boundaries soon becomes the least of Tori’s problems as this awful couple seems determined to ruin her holiday. Between awkward encounters, petty behavior, and escalating drama, the trip becomes a complete mess. Thankfully, surprising friendships—and the appearance of a handsome new man—might just be enough to salvage what’s left of this disastrous vacation.
I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. There were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, and the humor kept the story moving at a great pace. It’s also a standalone, which was a refreshing change after reading so many series lately—and honestly, it was exactly what I needed.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC, this is my honest and voluntary review
Ex on the Beach is a fun romantic story about moving on from the past and finding unexpected connections. The story follows Tori, who goes on a holiday hoping to relax and forget about her problems. However, things become awkward when she realizes that her ex-boyfriend is staying at the same place with his new girlfriend. This makes the trip uncomfortable at first and brings back many mixed emotions for her.
During the holiday, Tori ends up sharing a room with Robert, who seems a bit grumpy and serious in the beginning. As they spend more time together, their conversations and funny arguments make the story entertaining. Slowly, Tori starts to see things differently and begins to understand that sometimes letting go of the past can lead to something better.
The book has a light and humorous tone, and the holiday setting makes the story feel relaxed and enjoyable. The characters feel real because they make mistakes and deal with awkward situations just like people do in real life.
Overall, Ex on the Beach is an enjoyable romantic comedy that shows how unexpected situations can lead to new friendships, self-reflection, and even love. It’s a great book if you want a cheerful and entertaining read.
Two things Tori did not expect to have to deal with on her holiday to Jamaica…. A grumpy Robert who has just been dumped and her ex Stuart and his girlfriend!
Unexpectedly Tori is travelling on a couples holiday to Jamaica, downside she has to share a room with Robert, who is also not best pleased and very rude from the get go. Then her ex Stuart is also along for the holiday with his girlfriend Amy, she is very jarring, demanding and too much to handle for what’s meant to be a chilled out holiday.
Thankfully Tori doesn’t take any of it and manages to make the best of the situation, exploring the resort and bar where she meets piano player Gabriel.
This was a typical Pheobe MacLeod read and I enjoyed it. Light hearted and fun escape. Tori was a brilliant main character and her interactions with Robert were excellent, I liked how Robert also had a journey too. Gabriel was just stunning, the perfect holiday romance.
The additional characters, Tori’s friends, Priya, Rosie were always her cheerleader and I loved they they were always there for her. True friendship!
Overall a great read. Thank you NetGalley for the download.
I am a huge romance reader, and I especially love books that make me laugh along the way. I had heard so many good things about Phoebe MacLeod, so I was really excited to finally pick up one of her books. From the start, this felt like it was going to be a fun read, and I could not wait to dive in.
This book hooked me right from the beginning. I really liked that it is told in first person from only the FMC’s point of view. Having just her perspective added an extra layer of intrigue and kept several plot points a complete surprise. Based on the description, I had a pretty clear idea of how I thought the story would unfold, but I was pleasantly proven wrong. The direction the story took caught me off guard in the best way, and I honestly think it was a smart choice that made the book even more enjoyable.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, engaging, and full of moments that kept me turning pages. Phoebe MacLeod has officially been added to my list of authors to watch, and I will definitely be picking up more of her books in the future.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
Sometimes you just need a book that isn’t enemies to lovers. No endless back and forth, no emotional whiplash just a cozy, feel good romance with a happily ever after. And this one delivered exactly that.
We follow Tori, who desperately needs a break from life after work stress and a very regrettable hookup with her ex. A spontaneous Jamaican getaway sounds like the perfect reset… except the trip doesn’t turn out quite the way she expected.
I really loved Tori and Gabriel together they were genuinely so cute, and I adored watching their relationship unfold naturally. Their connection felt easy, sweet, and refreshing, which made the romance incredibly enjoyable to read.
I also really appreciated the side friendships and the little bit of drama sprinkled throughout it added depth without overwhelming the main story. Everything came together in a way that felt fun, relaxing, and emotionally satisfying.
Overall, this was a great escape read with heart, sunshine, and just enough drama to keep things interesting. Perfect for when you want romance without the chaos.
Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this ARC!✨
I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher, for which I thank them.
“Ex on the Beach” is a rom-com by Phoebe MacLeod. I have to admit, it took me a bit of time to warm up to the main character, Tori, but through the book, she grew on me. She always had a wicked sense of humor (and it shines in this book), but it wasn’t until everyone was at the airport that I really warmed up to her. This book follows Tori as she joins her co-worker, Lily, and her husband on a trip to the Caribbean. Joining the group is Tori’s ex and his current girlfriend and a last-minute switch means that Tori is sharing a room with the male half of a recently broken-up couple, not the female she believed she was going to be sharing it with. There’s mayhem - the roomie is a jerk, ditto for the ex, the ex’s current girlfriend is an uber control freak - and all Tori wants is a pleasant holiday. Fortunately, she and the hotel’s piano player meet and things for Tori turns around. This was a really light beach read (alas, I’m lacking a beach!), but I really liked it. I cannot say that I think the cover accurately depicts the contents of the book, but it is eye-catching.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC!
I did mostly enjoy this. The character dynamics felt true-to-life, especially the conflict with the p.o.s. ex and his obviously insecure girlfriend. I think where I'm faltering is with our main character and her journey.
It didn't feel like she learned anything? It's not necessarily a requirement for your main character to learn a lesson, but I had a hard time justifying to myself why we were following her through this story. It was fun to watch her stand up for herself, but there were no consequences for the lie she told (by omission, but still) to Amy about Stuart. She doesn't go on the vacation really wanting anything from it, and we don't get to see her fight for something she really wants, other than to just be left alone.
The romance subplot was sweet, but I do wish we'd had more of it. I think I wish I'd been convinced of the strengths of their relationship before the brief 3rd act breakup, because I also didn't buy the speed with which they resolve the shenanigans and reaffirm their feelings for each other. Other than that he seems like a great guy, I did like him as the romantic lead.
Oh my goodness. What a fun book. Perfect for a beach read. I loved the characters, the female friendships and the scenery and setting. I hated the characters of Amy and Stewart and I wish more had been made of how unliveable they were. Tori is a single career girl, living life, working hard and having fun on her terms. She’s met some losers whilst looking for love. Her friend has booked a holiday of a lifetime to Jamaica for 6 but one of the couples splits up so a place becomes available. She takes it and what should be an amazing opportunity has all the markings of being a disaster when she sees who is on the trip and who she will be sharing a room with. Military style planning from control freak Amy who soon realises that her boyfriend Stewart is Tori’s ex! Leads to some wrangling of control. Tori meets and forms a friendship with Gabriel the piano playing owners brother. She escapes and sees the real Jamaica thanks to him. This is a great read and one I wholeheartedly recommend. Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
The last thing Tori expected that on her holday in Caribbean, that her ex and his girlfriend will be joining the group holiday with her friends.Tori was really hoping to never see Stuart again after New Year’s Eve hookup with him. What started as unpleasant surprises will get worse,as she need to share the room with grumpy Robert, who got dumped and it's quite rude.
Will she survive this Jamaican escape, and maybe have a summer romance,or will it be holiday from hell?
It was a fun and quick rom com.Tori really don't have any luck at the beginning, and the situations look really depressing.I'm glad she stood up for herself, and didn't let some of them ruin this holiday for her. There was a little bit romance, cute, but for me there was not enough depth to call it great,it felt as a just summer fling, but author made it work at the end.Sweet summer rom com, perfect for rainy day.My first book by this author, and hope to read more in the future.
Thank you netgalley and boldwood book publisher for arc,my review is honest and my own.
This is a light, fun read when you're looking to unwind without needing to concentrate.
The story centres around Tori, her slimeball ex, and a bundle of amusing supporting characters.
Tori is clever and quick-witted and overall just easy to like. I found myself laughing out loud in multiple places.
I did find it hard to really connect with most of the characters. I feel perhaps the their impact was diluted a little, either due to the number of them, or a little too much time spent in certain areas.
Overall, it does what it sets out to do: provides a gentle distraction and escape when you just need a little rest and sunshine. Read it if you love: - Closed door romance (no spice) - Beach reads - Summer romance
Get your hands on this one from 9 February 2026 and just try to stop yourself from booking a summer getaway.

I honestly don't know where to begin because I loved every single thing about this book! Tori is such an amazing character—she's tough and refuses to let anyone ruin her day, but at the same time, she's forgiving (when deserved) and always tries to be the bigger person. I really enjoyed how she navigates her relationships, whether they're positive or negative. The conversations she has with her best friends are delightful; she keeps them updated on everything going on, and it's clear they've always got her back. Plus, their banter is fantastic!
I found it impossible to put this book down; it was so much fun to read! I was hooked the entire time, constantly curious about what would happen next. The romance was captivating, and I was kept guessing right up until the end. Overall, this book was a hilarious and heartwarming read, and I can't wait to recommend it to all my friends!
Another cute book by this author. Her books are humurous and have great characters. Tori ends up helping a friend by taking a vacation spot to Jamaica so that the friend can get a great deal, Tori agrees to rooming with a girlfirend of her friend, and is lllokling forward to ten days of fun in the sun. From the minute Tori gets to Jamaica, everything that can go wrong can, she is now sharing a room with grumpy Robert and of course there are no other rooms available; but worse than that, her ex shows up with his girlfriend, and they are a part of her group.
Tori escapes to a local beach bar and there finds a piano player who she strikes up a quick friendship with. Can Tori still have the time of her life, ro will this whole trip be a bust. Such an enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house, Boldwood Books and the author for the opportuity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
