Australian romance author Ally Blake loves reading and strong coffee, porch swings and dappled sunshine, sparkly notebooks and soft, dark pencils.
She also adores writing love stories. Having sold over four million copies of her Harlequin Mills and Boon novels worldwide, she is living her dream.
Alongside one husband, three gloriously rambunctious kids, and too many animal companions to count, Ally lives and writes in the leafy western suburbs of Brisbane.
Ryder doesn't even know who Patrick Swayze is and his sister wants him to take dance lessons for her wedding... At first he's tempted to curse her and then he meet the woman who's gonna help him to not look like a fool for Sam's big day. A woman he instantly find riveting and who'll make him work his butt off.
Nadia was a profesionnal dancer before she let a man interfered with her passion. Currently staying in Melbourne, teaching at a dance studio, she's preparing for a big audition that should restart her career and a new life in Las Vegas. So the last thing she need is a distraction in the form of big, strong and sexy Ryder, her friend's brother. But no matter how good she is at hiding her carnal reaction to his potent masculinity, she's no match for the wave of lust, storm of sensation and breathless longing that consume them.
Warning : it' gonna get hot !
Overall it was a great book, but the first part where they meet for the dance lessons was better than the second one where the story lost it's momentum and there were too many sex scenes. The chemistry between Ryder and Nadia was definitively there and the sexual tension was scorching and sensual but I guess I just lost a bit of interest in the last thirty percent of the book. Ryder passion for his work as an architect and his love for his sister was very endearing. Nadia wasn't the sweet heroine type, but her strength of character make her stand out from the others.
If you're in the mood for a nice and sultry romance with dance as the backdrop, take a step towards this book.
This has got to be my favorite Ally Blake to date. I am a sucker for a romance with a dancer as one of the main characters, so this book was an automatic read for me. However, the five star rating I'm giving it has nothing to do with the dancing aspect. That was an added bonus. I absolutely fell in love with Nadia and Ryder and their background became irrelevant. Not that the dance scenes weren't amazing. They were killer. A must-read for anyone who enjoys romantic fiction!
It’s been ten years since Ally Blake published her very first book, and that’s ten years packed with fun, sassy and delightful romances. The Dance Off is her 25th book for Mills & Boon, and I was totally psyched to see what she came up with.
Now, I’ve always been a little bit in love with dancing – especially when there’s handsome rugby players involved (oh Ben Cohen – next week’s Strictly Come Dancing final won’t be the same without you!!) – so having her heroine as a dance instructor was always going to win me over. And then there was Ryder. Suited and so hot he could start a fire with his intense gaze, he seemed to be the perfect fit for free-spirited Nadia.
I loved the fact that Nadia’s career is something that is in development. She’s working towards overcoming her previous fears as well as perfecting Cirque du Soleil-style acrobatics. This incredibly sensual woman makes the perfect foil for Ryder, though even she doesn’t expect the way he reacts to her...
"Blake entertains with clever dialogue, a well-paced story and lyrical descriptions as she immerses readers in a dancer's world". (RT Book Reviews) rated 4 stars
The focus was too much on the physical attraction for my taste, but it reads okay, though Nadia is a tough cookie and might not be everyone's cup of tea.
A lovely fun and sexy read from Ally Blake, one of my favourite Australian romance authors. The story is set in my hometown of Melbourne, which is always a winner with me. The heroine, Nadia, is a dancer who specialises in burlesque and aerial styles and who had danced in a famous troupe in Las Vegas. Now home in Melbourne, recovering from the fallout of a ruined relationship and career, she is working as a dance teacher.
The hero, the dark and sexy Ryder, has been roped in to take dance lessons before his sister's wedding. Ryder wants dance lessons like a hole in the head, until he meets the smouldering teacher. There is an instant and hot attraction between the pair. For their own reasons, they each resist a relationship. Nadia expects to blitz an important audition and leave soon for Las Vegas and she doesn't want some man ruining her big chance.
I loved the descriptive language and heat between the characters in this book. The dance scenes were smoking hot, especially one involving ropes (but no spoilers). There were just a few negatives for me: I don't really agree that Nadia should have compromised on her dream to be with Ryder. Also the tension/situation with Ryder's father was kind of unresolved. But, did I mention the sexy?
Poor unsuspecting Ryder has no idea what is heading his way when he turns up for pre-wedding dance lessons. He is completely thrown by the tempestuous wild woman he meets. So much for bun-toting straight laced dance teachers. Nadia isn't exactly what Ryder was expecting. Nadia isn't really interested in her plans being waylaid by a handsome devil of a man. She has plans for the future and doesn't intend to let anything or anyone get in the way of her goals. Hmm but darn it he sure does get under her collar something wicked. What follows is a cat and mouse game of seduction and restraint. The passion between the two of them was palpable. It might have been the extra emotions twirling through the air as the couple melded together in dance. You could almost feel the tension between them. I would like to say kudos to the author for creating such a strong, memorable and passionate atmosphere between the two of them. I received a copy of this book courtesy of Harlequin UK and Mills & Boon.
Sam wants her brother, Ryder Fitzgerald to walk her down the aisle. He’s always been there for her, when their father wasn’t – so he was the logical choice. But of course that means they have a dance together at the reception. Ryder simply can’t go to a group lesson every week, but Sam manages to set up solo lessons on another night – and he just can’t find an excuse to get out of it. Read More
This is a quick easy read. The heat between the two main characters is like a forest fire. Ryder and Nadia are both broken from bad parental role models so falling in love is a challenge. I can say I did not like how the book ended - Nadia ended of giving up her dream and when Ryder went to search for her in Las Vegas well for a rich guy he did not do much. The book is pure fantasy -- true Disney as everybody lives happily ever after.
I wanted to like it but I found it to be slow and boring. I usually read a book cover to cover before I start another book but I had to stop and read something else before finishing this one. I liked the plot and thought it was written well (easy to follow and read). I liked dialog and it seemed slim on it. There was definite chemistry between Ryder and Nadia but i just felt it dragged on.
I should have read up on this one a little more. I was looking for cute, sweet and fluffy and this was a very physically charged based romance. Not what I happened to be in the mood for and not really my thing.
I loved this book. She storyline flew seamlessly. The heroine is a dancer. She is introduced to the hero by his matchmaking sister. As the heroine teaches the guy to dance they fall in love. Very sweet romance.
