If you are looking for a light summer read filled with small-town charm, family dynamics, and a classic save-the-hotel trope, Five-Star Summer by Sarah Morgan offers a leisurely escape to the beautiful coast of Cornwall. This is a multi-layered story that weaves together themes of second chances, professional growth, and the importance of finding where you truly belong. The seaside setting feels like a true escape, perfect for anyone who loves a warm, emotional story with plenty of heart.

The story follows Evie, the acting general manager of a historic hotel that has seen better days. Evie is incredibly talented and hardworking, but she struggles to get the local community to take her modern suggestions seriously as they still see her as the young girl who grew up in town. When the hotel’s parent company sends a representative named Abby to conduct a corporate audit, the two women form an unexpected bond. Abby is hiding the real reason she is there while she observes the hotel’s operations, but she quickly finds herself falling for the warmth of the small town—a stark contrast to the stiff office politics she left behind in London.

One of the sweetest parts of the book is the relationship between Evie and the new chef, Luka. His food is his love language, and his small gestures—like noticing when Evie is too immersed in work to eat and surprising her with meals—are truly heartwarming. Similarly, Abby’s journey from a robotic, unemotional corporate representative to someone who discovers her own courage is a major highlight. There is a particularly high-stakes scene at the beach where she takes a massive risk to save a child, which really marks her turning point and earns her a lot of respect from the community and her love interest, Tristan.

While the story moves at a more relaxed, slow-burn pace, it provides a nice breath of fresh air for those who enjoy the quiet beauty of a seaside setting. It feels very much like a Hallmark movie where everyone is in each other’s business, but they all care deeply about their local landmark. It’s a story about taking brave risks, both in your career and in your heart, while reconnecting with the people who matter most.

Perfect if you love:
❤️ Small-town romances
🌊 A charming coastal setting
💛 Save-the-hotel and corporate-to-coastal tropes
✨️ Food as a love language

the setup…
Evie Hamilton has the dream job she’s wanted for a long time and should be thrilled. As the acting general manager, temporarily replacing Gerald who is recovering from a heart attack, she’s focused on implementing the changes to bring The Alexandra, Cornwall back to its 5-star status. But the downside of growing up in a small town is that everyone has known her since birth, including the hotel staff, and resist taking her seriously. When Abby Jones shows up from headquarters in Boston to provide much needed assistance. Evie and Abby fit together seamlessly, professionally and personally, and it’s life changing for them both. But Abby is keeping a big secret, one that could threaten their burgeoning friendship and the future of the hotel.

the heart of the story…
Evie and Abby are wonderful characters and the Cornwall hotel makes for a delightful setting. The staff are also well crafted, their gossipy and matchmaking shenanigans providing comic relief. But Abby’s secret gives added weight and dimension, lurking in the background all the time. Evie’s relationship with Luca the new head chef is just beginning and Abby’s connection to Tristan, the scowly town pub owner add a nice romantic element.

the narration…
Henrietta Meire’s storytelling skills add just the right flavor to this story. Her voice interpretations for Evie and Abby are dead on. I enjoyed her performance.

the bottom line…
I always get lost in the worlds Morgan creates, complicated family issues and dynamics involving characters you come to care about and root for. This one is no different and it took me about five minutes to become completely absorbed in this lovely story. Loved everything about my stay at the Alexandra Hotel. 4.5 stars

Evie Hamilton steps in as acting general manager of The Alexandra in Cornwall after the previous manager suffers a heart attack. She basically grew up in the hotel, with her father as concierge, so she’s known the staff since childhood. That history makes it hard for her to enforce change, but without it, the struggling hotel may not survive.

Abby Jones, meanwhile, has worked her way through every role in her mother’s hotel group, yet her colleagues still assume she’s only advanced because she’s the boss’s daughter. When her mother sends her undercover to the Cornwall property to find out why the hotel is underperforming, Abby jumps at the chance. Going incognito means the staff will speak freely, but it also means hiding who she is.

Evie and Abby click almost instantly. Evie is relieved to finally have support from head office, and Abby is surprised by how quickly she feels welcomed and understood. Still, the secret she’s keeping makes her uneasy.

The story unfolds through the perspectives of Evie, Abby, and Abby’s mother, Alexandra, each woman dealing with issues. I loved watching Evie and Abby’s friendship grow as they leaned on each other. Evie needed guidance on managing a staff who still saw her as the concierge’s daughter, and Abby’s fresh approach helped her find her footing. Abby, who’s never had close friends, finds Evie’s warmth and acceptance unexpectedly healing. Alexandra, too, has her own history with the Cornwall hotel and her own reasons for sending Abby there.

Each woman also gets their own romance. A nice addition rounding out the story, but it wasn’t the focus.

Sarah Morgan excels at writing relatable characters facing realistic problems, making me feel and root for every one of them! Everything comes together in a cozy, uplifting way with low drama and plenty of heart.

I alternately read and listened to an audio version and can recommend either. Henrietta Meire’s performance was wonderful! She seamlessly alternated between characters, giving each one a distinct voice and personality.

I voluntarily read/listened to a copy courtesy of the publisher. These are my thoughts and opinions.

3.75 After really enjoying A Merry Little Lie, I was excited to dive into Sarah Morgan's latest. This was such a cute, low-stakes story—a perfect summer beach read.

The narrative strikes a great balance between meaningful character development and a sweet romance. It’s a fun, breezy, and joyful escape that I’d highly recommend for anyone looking for a lighthearted vacation read.

The audiobook of Five Star Summer by Sarah Morgan is exactly what you want when you’re craving a true escape read, it’s warm, immersive, and effortlessly charming. Set against the dreamy backdrop of a Cornish hotel, the story follows three women—Evie, the determined hotel manager; Alexandra, the enigmatic owner; and Abby, whose arrival stirs up more than just summer energy. It’s a layered, character driven story that weaves together friendship, family dynamics, and romance in a way that feels both comforting and engaging.

The audio narration by Henriette Meire elevates the experience beautifully. She brings a lively, witty tone to the lighter moments while also capturing the emotional depth of each character with care. Her performance adds richness to the relationships and makes the small village setting feel even more vivid and alive. You can practically hear the hum of the hotel and feel the coastal breeze.

This is a five star beach read through and through—heartfelt, uplifting, and filled with just enough drama to keep things interesting without ever feeling heavy. The combination of a gorgeous setting, wonderful characters, and a story centered on growth and connection makes it the perfect poolside or vacation listen. It’s the kind of book that reminds you how lovely it is to get completely lost in a story for a while.

Another one that I absolutely loved!!

This one revolves around three women.
Alexandra, the owner of the hotel in question, as well as others!
Evie, the temporary manager for the Alexandra, Cornwall Hotel. She LOVES her job and is very good at it! BUT, she’s lived in the same town her entire life, and everyone at the hotel knows her AND everything about her… so she feels like they do NOT take her seriously, and they do NOT understand that the hotel is having some financial difficulties that she would love to try to FIX… If only the staff might actually listen to her! And her ideas!
And, Abby. The temp who’s been sent over by corporate to ‘help out’ for the summer.

They each have their own agendas.
They each have something to hide.
They each want the hotel to stand firm and be great! And they will do whatever it takes to see this project through!

But, the story is in the details! And that is where this one just SHINES, DAZZLES, EXPLODES, STANDS OUT, and whatever else you can think of to say that it was outstanding!!!!

Beautiful story! Wonderful, caring characters! Small town vibes that carry through in EVERY ASPECT of the story. And, well…. Just… love. Whether it be from parents, community or a partner…. This one just takes the cake!

5 outstanding, bright, beautiful, character-driven stars for me!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Five-Star Summer is my second book by Sarah Morgan and it did not disappoint. The audiobook narration was perfect and it easily transported me to the beautiful Cornwall setting. I loved the conflict of a hotel in trouble and seeing the effects of small town employees mixed with the corporate end of the business.

Evie and Abby’s friendship was a highlight of the book for me, and their opposite personalities and strong work ethics were a great mix for a women’s fiction read. I also really enjoyed the romances in the story, especially Evie and Luca. Each of the couples went through their own challenges and it played out well and kept me invested in their developing relationships.

Five absolutely glittery stars!!
A sparkling, feel-good escape full of heart, warmth, and seaside charm—an addictive read I absolutely devoured!!

Five Star Summer is the ultimate feel-good summer escape - like a breath of fresh air and a warm embrace when you need it the most! Think: gorgeous coastal Cornish hotel backdrop, sea views, chaos, and a whole lot of heart. It’s the kind of book that grabs you on page one and doesn’t let go until you’re closing it with a big, happy sigh. In short, it delivers everything I would love in a summer romance: warmth, heart, and characters I genuinely wanted to spend more time with. Only a master storyteller can create such a compelling story that is equal parts charming and emotionally satisfying, with friendship, romance, and personal growth woven together beautifully.

What stood out most to me was the way the novel balances lightness with depth. Evie and Abby are both compelling in their own ways, such fun, real, and messy characters that you’ll feel like you’ve been invited into their world—and their friendship feels authentic, layered, and deeply moving, the kind you’d happily binge -cue YES, I literally completed it in one sitting!! The scene adds so much atmosphere that you can practically feel the sea breeze and hear the bustle of the hotel, making it the perfect summer immersive read. Henrietta Meire’s narration made it even more immersive, and I loved every minute of the experience!

Sarah Morgan combines charm, warmth, and just the right amount of drama to create a book that feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s uplifting, comforting, and the perfect cozy read for anyone who loves heartfelt women’s fiction with a dreamy summer setting. Easy, satisfying, and absolutely five glittery stars. All to say - This is my 3rd book of the author and she is now my auto-buy for a cozy feel good escape!

Thank you to the author, Harlequin Trade Publishing and Harlequin Audio for gifting me this eARC and ALC for an amazing immersive reading experience! As always, this review contains my candid thoughts and opinions.

Five Star Summer is the cozy, heartfelt beach read you didn't know you needed. It follows 2 women throughout a summer of them finding themselves and becoming stronger and more confident in themselves and their place in the world. We get a spotlight of another woman learning to let go as well at the end.

I enjoyed watching Evie become the confident manager and overcome her "everyone knows everyone" town. She learned to bloom outside of the kid everyone watched grow up and gained the towns respect.
Abby was able to break away from under her mother to prove she WAS THAT GIRL and had earned every praise and promotion she received, and it wasn't just because mom was the boss.

I also loved that while there was a touch of romance in this book, it really showed friendships and bonds forming. It showed relationships whether they were romantic or platonic weather hard situations and come out on top.

This is a cozy romance set at a gorgeous, historical inn in Cornwall, with characters that jumped off the page into my imagination. Evie is the manager of the inn by default since the previous manager got ill and had to step out of the picture. What Evie finds when she takes over is a beautiful place that is hemorrhaging money and she is determined to save it, if she can. Help arrives in the form of a young woman from “headquarters” Abby Jones. Abby can and does work wherever she is needed and becomes Evie’s right arm as well as a friend in whom she confides. Abby’s secret mission there at the inn may derail their friendship, so she has to make sure that Evie doesn’t find out who she really is. There are great family dynamics, a lot of drama, multiple secrets and romance, too in this well-written and compelling story of living through circumstances beyond your control and tackling challenges as they come. There are lessons to be learned here as well as a fantastic story and relatable characters.

Thank you to the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This is really a story about 3 different women. Evie, acting manager at a hotel in a small village where everyone knows everything about her. Abby, who plays by her mother’s stern rules and feels completely alone and out of place at her mother’s company. And finally, Alexander, Abby’s mother and owner of the hotel that Evie is managing.

This book was well written, and while it’s labeled as a romance, it’s really not about the romance. It’s really a story about 3 women trying to find themselves.

I enjoyed the novel. It was great, the characters had a decent depth to them. My only complaint is that while the characters developed, I didn’t feel like setting developed. Great beach/vacay read!

3.5/5 stars. Rounded up.

Thank you to the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Five-Star Summer is a cozy, heartfelt summer read that completely swept me away, wrapping me in comfort, community, and the emotional depth Sarah Morgan does so beautifully.

I was hooked from the very first chapter and ended up reading this book in a single day. It’s warm, hopeful, and comforting—exactly the kind of story you sink into and don’t want to leave. I liked the three POVs; each perspective brought new layers to the story and added variety, while still tying together seamlessly.

The characters truly made this book for me. They felt authentic and relatable, with realistic flaws and life experiences that made their journeys emotionally engaging and genuinely moving. I also adored the small village setting in Cornwall. The coastal backdrop was so vivid and atmospheric it felt like a character in its own right, and it completely captured that close-knit community feel while still offering the perfect escapist setting.

This is the kind of book that makes you want to escape to a small village by the sea and stay there with the characters long after the final page. Five-Star Summer gave me everything I’ve come to expect and love from a Sarah Morgan novel and absolutely hit me in the feels. I’d highly recommend it to fans of small-town stories, multiple POVs, coastal settings, and anyone looking for a relaxing, feel-good summer read.

Everything looks idyllic until it isn’t—and Sarah Morgan’s Five-Star Summer quietly takes that glossy, sun-drenched dream and peels it back just enough to show the cracks underneath… and I ate it up. Published by Harlequin Trade Publishing | MIRA, thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted ARC.

This book feels like stepping into a coastal postcard—Cornwall, sea air, a once-glamorous hotel clinging to its reputation—but underneath all that charm is a story about identity, expectation, and the kind of emotional growing pains that don’t magically disappear just because you’re an adult now (rude, honestly). It’s warm, yes. Comforting, absolutely. But there’s also this quiet tension running through it that kept me fully locked in.

Evie Hamilton is trying so hard to be taken seriously as the acting general manager of the Alexandria Hotel, and watching her navigate that felt painfully relatable. She knows exactly what the hotel needs, she has the vision, the drive—but when everyone around you still sees you as the kid who grew up down the hall? That self-doubt creeps in fast. I wanted to both hug her and hand her a clipboard like, “ma’am, run your empire.”

Then there’s Abby, who arrives with her perfectly curated life and a secret agenda that could unravel everything. She’s been sent undercover by her mother—yes, undercover at a hotel, which already feels like a reality show waiting to happen—and while she’s there to evaluate the place, she ends up finding something she didn’t expect: connection. Real, messy, inconvenient connection. Her dynamic with Evie becomes the emotional anchor of the story, and I loved how their friendship wasn’t instant perfection—it was layered, complicated, and built on moments that felt genuine.

And let’s talk about the supporting cast because they absolutely understood the assignment. A talented chef who brings just the right amount of charm, a gruff pub owner who is clearly soft underneath all that grumbling, and a small-town community that watches everything and forgets nothing. The hotel itself almost feels alive—tired, a little worn down, but full of history and potential, just waiting for someone to believe in it again.

What surprised me most is how much this book leans into female friendship and family dynamics over romance. The romance is there—and it’s sweet, satisfying, and perfectly woven in—but it never overshadows the bigger story. This is about women figuring out who they are when they step outside of who they’ve always been told to be. It’s about taking risks, telling the truth (even when it’s inconvenient), and realizing that sometimes starting over doesn’t mean failure—it means growth.

“Sometimes you have to tear everything down before you can build something stronger.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There were moments where the pacing felt a little uneven for me, and a few emotional beats I wished had been explored just a touch deeper—but overall? This delivered exactly what I wanted: a cozy, feel-good read with heart, humor, and just enough emotional weight to make it linger after the final page.

If you love seaside settings, small-town energy, layered friendships, and stories that feel like a warm breeze with a hint of emotional chaos, this one is absolutely your vibe. It’s the kind of book you read with a drink in hand, fully intending to relax, and then suddenly you’re emotionally invested in a fictional hotel’s success like it’s your own personal business venture.

So tell me—are you here for the setting, the friendships, or the slow unraveling of secrets… and which one hooks you the hardest?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am such a fan of Sarah Morgan and this was my first non-Christmas book I've read by her. This was the exact book I wanted right now! Told in three alternating female perspectives, the book is centered around The Alexandra, Cornwall hotel. Starting in the present, Evie is the acting GM of The Alexandra. She grew up in the hotel where her dad has been conceirge for the last 30 years. It is her second home in her small hometown, which she loves, but also needs a break from because everyone is too involved in her life. While most of the hotel's employees have known her for her entire life and are like family, they don't take her seriously as a manager. She realizes that her predecessor left the hotel in a dire position and she is ready to jump ship before it sinks.

Abby, daughter of the owner of the Alexandra hotel corp, takes her job seriously. She may be daughter to the owner and in line as her successor, but her mom doesn't give her prefernetial treatment. In a normal day's work, Abby presents the financials for the Alexandra, Cornwall and tells the board that they should sell. Her research is solid so she is surprised when her mom, Alexandra, hesitates. She is no nonsense when it comes to her business, and life, but she says no to selling and instead sends Abby undercover for the summer to find out what the problem is at her first ever hotel, which she says is in the perfect location and should be performing better. She wants her to find out what the issues are so they can fix them. Shocked, Abby agrees, though she doesn't want to be undercover or be dishonest. But Alexandra convinces her that if people knew who she was, they wouldn't be open and honest in front of her so she wouldn't be able to get to the truth of the problem. So, off to Cornwall for Abby acting as a fixer for the hotel in a non-threatening way.

Abby and Evie hit it off right away, which is a shock to Abby especially. Usually she is left out because of her mom. But, Evie takes to her right away and a real friendship starts to form. In fact, the whole staff embraces Abby and she begins to love them and this place. Even more so, she starts to get close to the pub owner/innkeeper, Tristan, while staying there. In the meantime, Evie starts to get close to the hotel's chef, Luca, despite her fear that the town's butting in will interfere with her relationship.

When Alexandra begins to realize that Abby is getting too close to the staff, she has to intervene and return to Cornwall, the place she actually grew up in and never thought she'd return to. But, some secrets can't always stay hidden, nor can the past.

I LOVED this book and thought it would be the perfect beach read. It was heartwarming and I loved the characters. If this hotel was real, I'd want to visit it! Add this to your summer TBR list!

Now, I have to say, a perfect sequel would be all the characters back together at Christmas!

Five-Star Summer by Sarah Morgan will be published in the United States on May 5, 2026.
Take a trip behind-the-scenes of an elegant hotel in dramatically gorgeous Cornwall, England with Five-Star Summer by Sarah Morgan.

Evie Hamilton is the current general manager of an amazing hotel with a lot of potential that is staring down closure. No one is taking her new leadership role seriously, since the entire hotel staff, and the cute Cornish village, have all known and loved her since she was a baby. While she loves the town community, she could use some help updating the hotel. And she would like a chance to go on a date with the sexy Italian chef, Luca, without alerting the town gossips.

Abby Jones’ entire life has revolved around living up to her business-mogul, single mother’s high standards. So of course she agrees when her mom asks her to go undercover to the place where she was born, even if she doesn’t want to lie by omission about who she is, the daughter of the hotel group’s owner. Abby is desperate to find out more about the place where her mother grew up and met her father, a story she knows almost nothing about. She is ready to discover more about her past and prove herself in her career to her mother. However, her best-laid plans might go awry if she discovers friendship and even love, rather than a job promotion, on the beaches of Cornwall.

When Abby arrives at the hotel, Evie breathes a sigh of relief that someone capable is there to help her. Together, can they save the hotel from financial ruin and predatory developers? The two young women feel an instant bond, but can their friendship survive their secrets from the past?

My Thoughts
I love a multiple-POV summer romance set in a beachside town. I really enjoyed Abby and Evie’s characters. They realistically had to balance their goals and careers, love lives, and friendship along with their emotional journeys. I didn’t’ get bored with any of the POVs, and there were two satisfying love-story plot lines as well as revelations from the past that weren’t too predictable. If you are packing books for a vacation or staycation, and you enjoy your romance leaning toward women’s fiction and beachside towns in England, then you will enjoy Five-Star Summer!

I have read several books by Sarah Morgan and reliably enjoyed them. The Book Club Hotel might be one of my favorite books of hers, but I enjoyed Five-Star Summer even more.

After reading several thrillers recently, I was looking for a kinder, gentler kind of book to kind of cleanse my palate, and this new offering from Sarah Morgan was all that I was hoping it would be. It had everything that is needed in a contemporary romance beach read as we head into the summer months, but it was also more than that. This was a tale of found family and women's friendship, of starting over and learning more about yourself. Told from multiple points of view, this book gave us insight into the thoughts and experiences of the three women who were at the heart of the storyline, and Morgan weaved their lives together to create a very enjoyable novel. I found myself coming to care about the small town of Cornwall, the hotel at the center of the story, and most of all the various characters (and some of them were real characters) who made up the cast of the book. There was just enough conflict to keep things interesting, and best of all, there was a HEA (and maybe even more than one!) to tie everything up in the end. I realize now that I have read very few of Morgan's books, and I want to go back and remedy that immediately.

Set during summer in an idyllic Cornish seaside town, this is a great book to kick off your summer reading.

This was a wonderful story that had the rare effect of making me cry around 80%. I’m often moved by stories but it’s rare that I cry. I love stories like this that are multi-faceted and rich with story arcs, emotions, imagery, and memorable characters. In Five-Star Summer, the focus is mostly on two main characters, Evie and Abby, but Abby’s mother Alexandra plays a large role as well. Their coworkers and friends are involved in the rich and emotional storylines, and it’s a very nice blend of character driven and plot driven storytelling.

The story is fun with the idyllic setting and lots of charming and humorous moments from the hotel staff and townsfolk but it’s also heartwarming with moments of friendship, kindness, and romance, and moving with themes of forgiveness, resilience, and more.

I loved listening to the audiobook. Henrietta Meire did an amazing job with the narration, making each character distinctive. Her ability to convey the different emotions was impressive and definitely added to the experience. I have already looked up which other books she has narrated and I’m happy to see some others I’m interested in.

My personal rating: 4.25 stars
The only reason I didn’t give five stars is that it started feeling like the background of the characters that started being revealed went a little heavy on the drama and tragedy, if that makes any sense. It was a bit unbelievable somehow. I’m not sure why this stood out to me enough to affect my rating as I know as well as anyone that many tragic things happen all the time (especially with my true crime interest). Maybe I will revise my rating one day. :)

I highly recommend Five-Star Summer and the audiobook.

I have been looking forward to reading another Sarah Morgan book since reading my first last year on a whim. After a second home run, I’m feeling confident that I need to put all of hers on my TBR.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing for this gifted ARC!

This was a really good novel about friendship, familial relationships, overcoming the past and growing up. I really enjoyed the setting, the imagery of the beach side town in the UK was really great and it fit the vibe of the hotel really well.

I would say this book was maybe a bit on the "I'm telling you" instead of "I'm showing you" side of writing. But it was still enjoyable. I really related to Evie quite a bit. She is trying to grow into her own in a place where everyone has known her since she was born. It's so hard to grow out of that mold, and the temptation of leaving it all behind to begin anew is strong. This was really well demonstrated in her career and in her romantic life.

Abby was incredibly cool as well, she has so many dimensions that you get to see throughout the story. You get the professional side and then you also get to see her as a true person living life as well. Which comes off in the cutest of ways, and I loved her romantic subplot as well. They are so cute together and meld so well.

There is romance in this book, but I wouldn't say it's front and center. I felt this was more of a book about friendship and overcoming life's obstacles. And I really loved that, the romance was just a perfect sprinkle. The sense of community is also a huge part of this book, it really portrays the small town/everyone knows everyone's life really well.

I really enjoyed this one, I would land it in the 3.5 star range for me. I read it in 2 sittings and would absolutely buy a copy of it for my shelves! This comes out May 5th!

Thank you HTP for the eARC!

I've never been so relaxed while reading a book before? Like yes it's not like I'm expecting highway chases or even dealing with grief, but the completely calm feeling I experienced while reading this was incomparable.

Sarah has hit the mark for me once again with well-rounded characters who have secrets, family issues that play out in front of me (during the course of the book), and romantic subplots that keep me interested without taking over the story. Even though I expected it to be be from multiple perspectives, I thought having Alexandra's perspective added a wonderful layer to the story, making me have to take a step back to understand her position as a mother who raised her daughter herself.

It was fun to see how fast two women could become friends, and it felt like they truly both needed each other to deal with their respective issues, and I just loved that for them. I could also appreciate how fast Evie was able to forgive Abby. It truly wasn't her fault. I do which Abby would've played it smarter but it had to come out somehow right?

I also need to take a second for Luca and Tristan. THE MEN YOU ARE !!! that is how you love and show women you love them!!!!

The setting was also absolutely gorgeous. It was described in such detail that I felt like I was there, adding to the relaxed vacation feeling I got from it, even while understanding Evie's struggles as a manager. Working at this hotel just seems like a dream. And having it take place in a small town, while it can be annoying (as described by Evie), added coziness and care to getting to know these characters. Living in a small town can bring you so close, and I think there's as much benefit as there is irritation.

Low Stakes Medium Spice Sarah Morgan/ Hallmarkie Summer Tale. Sarah Morgan basically has two settings: summer and Christmas, and she seems to make it a point to release both types of book every year. This being a May release and given the title, it is obviously her summer version. Which does involve coastal/ beach living and general summer-ish vibes without being too country or culture specific. (Well done as this book takes place in both the UK and the US, though the bulk of the tale is in the UK.)

If you've never read a Sarah Morgan tale before, this - like pretty well all of them, at least in my experience - is a solid introduction to her general style and conforms pretty solidly to "her style". Not to the level of "if you've read one of her books you've read them all" but certainly to the level of the Hallmarkie "everything will be in this style with different particulars and take that as you will", and yes, there is a difference there.

Those that can't stand the heat of a jalapeno or so, know that this book is likely too spicy for you. Those that need a Carolina Reaper to be able to feel any heat at all, know that this book is nowhere near spicy enough for you. For most readers that fall somewhere in between, this book will likely be engaging without being distracting.

Overall, as I said in the title, really just a solid low stakes, medium spice, Sarah Morgan/ Hallmarkie type tale perfect for when you want to escape "actual" reality and know that there isn't anything problematic or disturbing (for most readers, at minimum) in the book you've chosen to escape into.

Very much recommended.

Five-Star Summer is a perfect summer read that is set around a five-star Cornish hotel close to the sea.

Evie is the current General Manager of this hotel. She has grown up in the hotel and is now in charge but is struggling to make some necessary changes and make the hotel more successful. She is worried that the hotel is going to be sold due to its failing.

Evie has grown up with all of the individuals working at hotel and is finding it difficult to get them to comply with the changes and with her being in charge. These employees also have taken, as per usual in a very small community, a very present and active role in Evies love life.

Abby is the daughter of the hotel owner and is sent to assess the hotel undercover. Abby arrives frustrated as she has many questions about her life and the life of the hotel that her mother does not provide her.

Abby is excited to get out of the city and to "get her hands dirty" doing some actual work. Abby learns quickly that the people of this community are good people and tight knit. Abby fits in quickly but feels bad about withholding the information of why exactly she is there and who she is.

Abby and Evie put in lots of work at the hotel. Both started to find joy in many things until the past starts to come back and Alexndra, Abby mother, arrives unannounced.

I absolutely love the community and how everyone bands together and wants happiness. I love the relationships that are formed and the strength portrayed of the woman of the Story!

4/5 stars! Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book as an ARC!

This was such a comforting, easy book to sink into. Five-Star Summer feels like sitting by the water with a cold drink, watching other people’s lives unfold while quietly thinking about your own. It’s warm, reflective, and very much about relationships in all their complicated forms.

What really worked for me was the sense of place. The coastal setting is vivid without being overdone, and the hotel itself almost feels like a character. I loved how the story leaned into themes of community, family expectations, and figuring out who you are when everyone around you already thinks they know you.

The characters felt real and imperfect, especially in the way they struggle with change and old patterns. I connected most with Evie’s journey of trying to step into her own voice while carrying the weight of her past. The friendships and family dynamics were where this book really shined for me. The romance is there, but it’s more of a gentle layer than the main focus, which I actually appreciated.

That said, the pacing did feel a bit uneven at times, and a few emotional beats were more told than shown, which pulled me out of the story here and there. I wanted just a little more depth in certain moments for it to fully land.

Overall, this was a heartfelt, feel-good read that delivered exactly the kind of cozy, character-driven story I was in the mood for. It didn’t completely blow me away, but it absolutely left me with that soft, satisfied feeling when you close the book and smile. Perfect for a relaxed summer read.

Five-Star Summer, Sarah Morgan's newest book, is a light and feel-good chick lit book about friendship, family, and standing up for yourself. I have read one other book by Sarah Morgan, A Merry Little Lie, last Christmas and rated it five stars. In that book, I enjoyed the way the author weaved different character's stories together into one cohesive tale. Although there are multiple characters and stories in this book, I didn't feel the same pull toward their stories.

What I Liked: The elements of the plot, the setting, and the characters were unique and I haven't read another book with this plot before. I also enjoyed visiting the Cornish coast through the novel. I liked the way the author made sure to tie up all loose ends by the end of the book. This book is good for fans of Hallmark movies.

What Didn't Work for Me: This book is divided among three main characters. I found the combination of third-person narrative and multiple "main" characters kept their stories at arms-length and I didn't feel authentic empathy for them. The dialogue and scenes felt rushed and simplistic, with way more telling than showing. The combination of writing style and predictability made it a mediocre read for me.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing / MIRA and NetGalley for the complementary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinion was not influenced by the author or publisher in any way.

Content Considerations: A few discussions about sex, but no on-page sex scenes. No profanity that I can remember.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for an advance reader's e-proof to review. Sarah Morgan is one of my favorite authors, Five-Star Summer follows three women who all work for an international upscale hotel chain headquartered in Boston. Their flagship hotel, The Alexandra, Cornwall, is not performing well, and it's general manager is in the hospital, so Evie, acting general manager, is trying to run the hotel, but sees that business is not going well and worries that the owners in Boston will sell it to developers, who would likely tear it down for second homes for vacationers. Her major roadblock is that, because her widowed father has worked at the hotel since she was a toddler, the staff treat her like she's still a little girl, and don't take her directions very seriously. Owner Alexandra and her daughter Abby, back in Boston, see that the hotel is not performing, and Alex decides Abby needs to go over there, without telling the staff that she's Alex's daughter, and investigate what the problem is. Abby quickly falls in love with the Cornish coast and the village and all it's community, and begins to help Evie implement the changes she has wanted to make all along. Will Evie & Abby be able to convince Alex that they can turn things around and not sell to the weaselly developer who keeps creeping around the hotel? Read this fun summer novel to enjoy the setting and all three women's stories as they figure out if the hotel can be saved and how to introduce passion into their personal lives(if you know what I mean).

Very good!

Sarah Morgan has done it again, writing a wonderful story about families, small villages, second chances and realization about what's important in life.

Abby is a senior manager at her company who gets taken for granted because she's the owner's daughter. It's not that she's not good at her job, quite the opposite, she is a people pleaser who goes above and beyond just to be seen. When her mother asks her to head to one of their UK hotels and provide her assessment over a summer working undercover, she agrees.

Evie has been working at the hotel since she was in school, her father also works there. When the GM takes ill, Evie steps up to fill the role until a permanent GM can be appointed and she so wants the hotel to succeed. The staff doesn't take her seriously and is stuck doing things the way the last guy did them, almost driving the hotel into financial ruin. Can Abby help save the hotel without ruining new-found relationships?

I loved the way the friendship develops between Evie and Abby. The setting is beautiful, you can almost hear the waves crashing against the cliffs. The fact that everyone in the village knows everyone else's business can be both a blessing and a curse, but most times it works out fine. I read this book over 2 afternoons, it flew along and I was invested in what happens next. Highly recommend, great vacation read.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for an ALC of this book.

Sarah Morgan has done it again. She never fails to deliver a great cozy and heartwarming read. This book was so charming, from the characters introduced to the visuals the book’s narrator brings to mind when describing the atmosphere of the quaint town. Although this book has touches of romance, the true core of this book is the friendship that develops between the two main female characters. You have Evie, who has recently taken over as acting general manager of a hotel. The previous manager had a heart attack and they needed someone to fill his spot right away. Evie practically grew up in the hotel since her father worked there for the past 30 years, so Evie’s temporary promotion was a logical choice. While filling in Evie finds that the previous manager had not been doing a good job and as a result the hotel was in trouble. Enter Abby, the hotel owner’s daughter. Her mom Alexandra sends her to the hotel on an undercover mission to investigate exactly why the hotel is in trouble and what can be done to fix things. Her mom insists that she tell no one that she is Alexandra’s daughter. The staff is just told that Abby is at the hotel to help out with whatever is needed until things are more settled. Alexandra also is a great supporting character that has mystery surrounding her. As you go through this book, the women’s heartache is revealed, healing begins, and strong ties are formed. I cannot say enough great things about this book!

Five Star Summer is another great seasonal read from Sarah Morgan. Her books are always so multifaceted, centering women’s relationships with other women (mothers, daughters & friends) and sprinkled with some romance and a dash of mystery. This time our location is a Cornish Five Star hotel along the cost of the UK.

When Abby is sent by her mother, the corporate owner of the hotel, to help Evie ( the interim manger) deal with its decline, the two develop a quick friendship. But Evie doesn’t know Abby is the boss’s daughter undercover and It’s a lot for Abby to negotiate the longer she stays and grows to love the people she meets.

For Evie, the small town vibe means her employees remember when she was two and don’t take seriously the changes she wants to make. They would rather be in her romantic business. She is considering a move to London, but there is this awfully nice and attractive new chef hanging around . . .

I enjoyed watching Abby and Evie’s connection grow and the way in which Abby is warmly accepted into the small town family. As the secrets start to come out, they reveal deeper ones that have kept both women from healing from their past. 🩷

While this story didn’t make me weep like Merry Little Lie or Summer Swap had me in tears, the book left me smiling and hopeful. Themes of authenticity, found family, and home make this a warm feel good novel I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s definitely one to put on your summer TBR.

🎧 Henrietta Meir gives a fantastic reading on the audiobook. At 8 hours and 40 minutes this is a perfect listen over a weekend trip or cozy day at home.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing | MIRA, Sarah Morgan, and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Evie Hamilton is filling big shoes as the interim hotel manager for a five-star Cornish hotel. She is very attached to this hotel, as she quite literally grew up in it while her father worked as a concierge. When she discovers the hotel is at risk of being sold off, she is desperate for help to turn it around. Enter Abby Jones, a senior manager for the hotel's umbrella company. Abby is tasked by her mother/the company CEO to go undercover and help out the failing hotel. As the pair form a real friendship, multiple secrets and the hotel's fate just might ruin it all.

This was my introduction to Sarah's work, and I enjoyed it overall once I got more into the story. I love that this was multi POV, covering Evie, Abby, and Abby's mother Alexandra. There was a mystery aspect, as Alexandra was hiding a lot from Abby, including information on her real father. The time stays in present tense, so there is no confusing back and forth on timelines. The chapters were fairly long and Evie's inner monologue was quite repetitive, which I didn't particularly enjoy. The romances seemed a bit rushed and developed more off the page. I would have preferred reading more about those. There is a strong focus on female friendship and found family, as well as second chances.

Five Star Summer, by Sarah Morgan, is the story of two women, one English, the other American, put in an unusual position to save a boutique upscale hotel, the Alexandra Cornwall. After the general manager is taken ill and young Evie Hamilton takes over as the interim manager, she runs into barriers from the hotel staff who have known her since she was small. Her father, Edward, has been the hotel’s concierge since she was an infant as he often had to bring her with him to work as her mother had passed a few days after her birth. With all of Evie’s good ideas, the staff pushes back saying we’ve always done things a certain way. Issues have been noticed by the chains headquarters in Boston but owner, Alexandra Strong, is adamant that her first hotel will survive.

As such, Alexandra sends her daughter, Abby Jones, to work with the staff but report back to her. Abby has always had a problem making friends and fitting in, but this time her mother has sent her undercover. In meeting, Abby and Evie quickly form a bond, neither having knowledge of their entangled past. A no nonsense lady, Abby has a way about her that helps bring about change.

This is such a delightful story of entangled histories and promising futures. The characters are multidimensional. The seaside setting is so well described. And the secrets are revealed in such a well timed fashion. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!
