M$. Fortune: 50 Shades of Gray; The Adventures of Merry June Pigg

Rate this book
Merry June Pigg is celebrating her seventieth birthday by ditching her sensible shoes, putting on her pumps, changing her name—and running away from home.
Since she retired from teaching, Merry June has dreamed of being a contestant on a popular television game show. Her audition video has been accepted and she’s ready to embark on the journey of her life. Certain her husband of fifty years wouldn’t understand, she leaves him a note, a freezer full of home cooked meals and enough new underwear to see him through her absence.
Her cross-country journey seems jinxed from the start when she loses her money and her plane ticket. Ready to turn back, Merry June meets a young prostitute who convinces her that this is the universe’s way of testing her and she must go on.
Back on course, she encounters a string of wonderful, weird and sometimes-scary characters that change the way she sees the world, and more importantly, herself. She learns that the glamor of the road, of Hollywood and even meeting a certain famous heartthrob is nothing compared to the people who love her and think of her as a star in her own right.
Ms.-Fortune is the funny and poignant adventure of a woman who dares to defy the stereotypes of what it means to grow old. Merry June proves that aging with humor, compassion and a generous dash of courage is what it takes to be a real winner.

Merry June wanted to go on her favorite game show. At her 70thbirthday/Anniversary party, she planned on sneaking out of town to go to California. That night started her adventure. The hotel lost her suitcase with her plane ticket so she had to figure out what to do. So started a fun book to read. At times I laughed by myself as I read this book. I would recommend it if you want something light to read.

Busses, Trucks and RVs

What an entertaining and fun story about a cross-country trip. With the exception of a chapter of dialogue and plot elements that were reminiscent of 1950's gangster movies, the story was almost flawless. I recommend it as an in-between book when you want something a little different from the usual.
