This was a fast-paced read but it packs a punch. Quite a unique spin on the zombie apocalypse genre. The zombies themselves are creepy looking. I liked our main character, Max, and her special ability. This is what brought something new to the table. I also dug the art style. I love seeing a somewhat fresh perspective, having the book take place in the Philippines. A zombie apocalypse in the country is not new but the way it's tackled here is pretty unique, especially since it particularly takes place in Baguio City.
I could tell this was a labor of love from the author as I see numerous (but not invasive) references to zombie media like The Walking Dead or even the original Night of the Living Dead (book opens with brother and sister visiting their parents' grave, eh?)
A great graphic novel on the importance of family, sacrifice, and love. The art style suited the black and white colors while the details showed through. I wished there were more action scenes or certain scenes were longer.
Blight is a typical zombie comic book set against the backdrop of Baguio City. The idea of a zombie outbreak in the cold mountains of this famous city feels uniquely Filipino (and familiar even you haven't been there).
It started with Max and her brother visiting their parents in Bokod. Then after returning to the city with the heavy traffic, tourist and all, they've got involved in an accident and everything goes down from there.
I just found out about this book after seeing a post from PICOF on Facebook. It piqued my interest because it looked like a zombie novel (and it is!), and I wanted to read another zombie comic book.
Alas, I liked it. I enjoyed the illustrations of the characters, especially how their emotions were shown through their faces. I also liked the backgrounds, which, according to the author, are actual pictures of facets of Baguio.
My only complaint is alam kong lumalayo sila sa mga zombies, pero paglipat ng panel o ng page, napapaligiran na agad sila? Ang bilis lang kasi. Pero baka ganon talaga ang behavior ng mga zombies sa libro. I also had my doubts about one of the characters dahil sa guilt-tripping niya kay Max (the mc), pero after reading that twist/revelation, I understood.
To end, I do think Blight has fulfilled my satisfaction as a reader who is looking for another zombie comic book.
