Colby

Once upon a time, playing for the NHL was my dream. Then Radimir Novicov skated circles around me and made it clear I’d never be good enough. He was smart, talented, and worst of all–sexy. Every closeted guy knows that you don’t hit on your teammate, even if his gaze lingers longer than it should.

All it took was one drunken close call before our friendship was in tatters, he was called up to the NHL, and I was sent for further conditioning.

Playing in the NHL was off the table, so coaching became my new dream.

And seventeen years later, I’m finally heading to the big time.
Video coach. Pro level. The only downside?

It’s for Novi’s team.

Novi

Radimir Novicov is not scared of anything. I am one of the best. Future Hall of Famer. There are two years left on my contract and I will end my career on the highest high anyone did see.

Then I will slink into the shadows where no one will hear of me again.

Because while I’m playing professionally, I cannot come out and be myself. Not with my family still in Russia.

The plan has been set since I first moved to America, and I only have two years left to wait. It should be easy to focus on hockey.

Then Colby Kessinger walks back into my life. The teammate with the lopsided smiles and cocky attitude–the one who made my heart want things it can’t have.
Now two years feels like a lifetime.

Novi is everything and we’re just Ken.

THE PREMISE: a closeted Russian hockey player has never been able to be truly himself, except the only man he ever nearly kissed is now his new coach.

TROPES & VIBES:
- Novi is a one man stand-up routine this whole book. I would literally read about him doing anything
- Ezra 🤝 Novi as besties is honestly life giving
- *I haven’t wanted anyone but you in 17 years*
- Sisters being hilarious
- Some of the best Queer Collective ensemble scenes on record
- The offhand Russian in the epilogue ended me

Thank you for letting me beta read, Saxon 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

I absolutely love Novi!! He's my second favourite fictional Russian, and I actually think he'd be great friends with Ilya Rozanov, which is definitely a crossover that I would love to see! I loved Novi's 'English' game too, it was peak entertainment and I loved how Colby joined in when he figured it out.

This was totally different to any of the other couples in the series so far, purely because of how long Novi has been hiding himself and his feelings for Colby. Being inside Novi's head when he starts to crack under the pressure was really hard and I just wanted to hug him so many times. I loved the support both he and Colby get from the Collective too, and Lane being his stern self with all the advice just added that extra level of difficulty for them to overcome.

I also really loved the instant connection between Novi and Colby that's been there since they knew each other seventeen years ago. They fit together so well, and Novi's dreams for the future made my heart go all squishy. I also really liked the outcome of their choices - it's not something I've read before (I'm 99.9% certain on that) and I've read SO many hockey romances that I was surprised when I realised that!

There's also a lot of discussion about how they're going to be able to have a relationship out in the open, possibly more so than in any other book in the series, and it was just heartwarming to see the lengths Novi and Colby were both willing to go to for them to have their HEA.

That ending with the Collective had me giggling like a lunatic as well! I'm really hoping that Lachie gets his story soon because I'm dying to see who he ends up with 😂

Maybe it's just because I'm a weak POS and he's russian, but I was fucking into Novi.
And after waiting 17 years to come out and be himself, I CAN'T HELP BUT TO VOUCH FOR HIMMMMMMMMM.
As much as some of the drama felt like fabricated nonsense, I didn't care.
Sweet bb Colby's fears and Novi's career, THROW THEM IN THE BIN IF NECESSARY AND KISS IMMEDIATELY 💖

Every time I think Eden and Saxon have written my favourite puckboy, they put out another book which challenges who's at the top of my list!

Radimir Novicov is my type of aloof and enigmatic Russian and, given the revelation at the end of Possessive Puckboy, he's been living with a secret the whole time he's been playing ice hockey in the US.

I felt for him so badly, his fears about his family still in Russia making him stay in the closet and, as a young man just signed to a pro team and having feels for his roommate, being forced to deny that attraction and their friendship, is heart-breaking to read.

Everything about this book worked for me. From Novi's unlikely adoption by Ezra Palaszczuk as his bestie because he knows how to pronounce his surname correctly, to Colby's fears for his coaching job in the NHL, to their undoubtable connection which has meant both of them haven't given the time of day to anyone else for 17 years.

Their stumbling and avoidance techniques at first are hilarious to read, until things eventually come to a head, forcing them both to accept that the attraction and the potential for something more is still there.

The build up to them finally letting loose is packed full of UST and delicious almost moments which do nothing but add to the enjoyment of a narrative that's fairly simple at its heart - Novi's plan to finish his final two years, then fade into obscurity so he can finally live his life as a gay man.

I loved how the plot took a twist with Novi's unique solution to deciding he'd had enough hiding once his sister told him she was leaving Russia and removing the last obstacle blocking his pathway to an open relationship with Colby.

The Queer Collective representation is absolutely en pointe in this book, with some of the funniest scenes coming as they all get together throughout the season and the Epilogue is one of the best ever written in terms of the insane antics they get up to.

Given what goes on there, I'm really hoping that it's baby Kiki Lachie's turn up next!

His mouth is like a morning coffee. A zap of high followed by a deep, simmering calm. I will never get enough of how he tastes, how he feels, the way his tongue wraps so deliciously around mine. My hips pin him to the door, and I’m eager to get us both naked, but the kissing is too good. Couples get to experience this every day, and I can barely wrap my head around the luxury.

I'm a sucker for characters who have waited forever for their HEA and go for it with everything they've got once they can. Novi is a hilarious, big hearted sweetheart and I want to read about his kids one day please Saxon and Eden! The thought of a young Novi practicing the game of quarters all by himself until he was amazing at it brought me to tears.

I hate this book. Seriously, the guy would have a better chemistry with a corps.

I just couldn't get attached, it seemed so farfetched, a guy that made a pass on the other and was basically holding a candle for him for 15y?

A more complete review to come!

Starting with the obligatory 'Fuck you, Shane Hollander' because I HAVE to say it every time a hockey MC finds a creative solution without needing to break his man first.

Novicov is an absolute delight, and not just because he's a chaos merchant. He's absolutely feral in his determination to be with Colby.

Lets his stardom work for him rather than hold him back. Love to see it.

I adore this as a vaguely second chance romance because one: technically they were never together the first time and two: nobody did anything crazy hurtful to the other.

Simply a case of right person, wrong timing.

Except that the timing was wrong even the second time 💀

But Novi was all like nah, I'll MAKE the timing right, and I rate him very highly for that.

Even for how he did it, though I'll admit, I lowkey thought Colby might have a heart attack with how Novi chose to go about it.

Novi is a C student at best when it comes to communication but he's A+ at romance, I'll give him that.

I get why he's so full of himself. He's very much the shit he thinks he is.

Clearly, Novi was my delight in this but Colby's a sweetheart. I'm an angst enthusiast but I adored how Colby never had to seriously worry for a moment about how Novi felt about him.

Given their confusing start, I love that he got the clarity he needed, and then some.

Funny how Novi was committed to his closet but once he opened his eyes to the possibility, wild horses couldn't keep him in.

So Colby's pretty much the real winner in this. Started with feelings for his presumed to be straight teammate that he couldn't risk revealing, only to end up loved so loudly by this same man that he HAS to try and rein him in.

Rah.

Minus a star for too much Ezra(THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER MEMBERS OF THE QUEER COLLECTIVE, WHY IS EZRA ALWAYS BEING SHOVED DOWN MY THROAT?) and also, the first 30% or so really seemed like basic Sadenverse but they really turned it around after that.

This shit is why I can't stop. You hate one installment, swear it's the last, then you try the next one out of nostalgia and really like it.

Rinse. Repeat.

Maybe I should just give in to the quicksand and accept my fate.

Really just lie there and think of England.

Tropes: forbidden relationship, secret relationship, coach/player, second chances
Feels: 4.5/5
Steam*: 3.5/5
Kinks: n/a
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings/representation: some pining and hurt feelings over their past but in a very low angst way, homophobia
Cheating between MCs: No
Any cheating: No
Other person drama: in the past, they never even kissed, they were never together. They were both with others over the years, though Novi only ever did BJ's and HJs because of his need to stay anonymous. Once they met again, neither of them had eyes for anyone else. They were exclusive.

5 stars

In the prologue, Novi is 21 and Colby is 19. They are teammates in the minors, both NHL hopefuls. Novi is Russian and looks pretty fierce, and is not great with his English. They are friends. Until they have a moment, where there's some sexual tension between them, Colby almost kisses Novi. Novi stops being friends with him, switches and isn't roommates with him anymore on the road. Colby thinks it's because Novi is homophobic, but really Novi is very interested in Colby and can't act on it because he's hiding his sexuality to protect his family in Russia. Shortly after that, Colby just couldn't cut it and didn't make it to the NHL.

17 years pass. And they meet again, this time Novi is a seasoned NHL player who is successful and has two years left before he'll retire at 40. Colby has landed a job as assistant video coach in the NHL, which is a huge career move for him... And he is a coach for Novi's team. Colby still thinks that Novi is homophobic, while Novi is afraid that Colby knows the truth that he is gay. Once Novi realizes that Colby thinks he's homophobic, Novi comes out to him and tells him the truth. The sexual tension and old friendship between them is revived and they can't help but give in to their feelings. And they feel too deeply to keep it casual, quickly they are exclusive and they both want this to be something serious. To Novi, Colby is the man he has dreamed of for 17 years. Novi has only let himself have anonymous BJ's and HJs at glory holes, and he is so happy to be in this relationship especially with the person he's dreamed of. Colby is afraid though that this might be fleeting as Novi has never been in a relationship before, and the scandal of their forbidden relationship would almost certainly end Colby's career. So they struggle to keep up a secret relationship. But Colby shouldn't be worried, because Novi really is a sweetheart and family man, and his big aspiration is settling down and raising a family with his man.

This book was an easy four stars to me as I was reading it, it was very good. The characters were so likeable, especially Novi. Their history meant that relationship had some extra depth to it. They had good chemistry and cared about each other. They will genuinely make great life partners. One of my weaknesses is that I like to see characters drawn to unwittingly touch each other because they are so preoccupied with each other, and platonic snuggling... And this book had those. And I loved the new characters, Turkey and Elena were standouts. I love when these authors write a strong female. It got god tier good with the Queer Collective appearances! I highlighted so many favourite passages. I loved the way that Novi solved the jam they were in. And I love that Novi and Colby are going to be daddies at some point (we get the jokes about Damon and Lane giving off daddy energy, I can't wait to see Novi be a literal Daddy).

The first 40 to 60% was good, but it got so much better when the humour and Queer Collective madness hit, Saxon and Eden just need to surrender to the comedy that is begging to come out of them. They are best when they write comedy. I know they need to give us the two characters developing their relationship though!

I thought the thrift shop extended meet cute of Aleks and Gabe in Foolish Puckboy was going to be my favourite Queer Collective interlude, as it has held that spot for quite a while out of a lot of books. The charity hockey game couldn't hold a candle to it for me. But there is a new winner and it is the party at Aleks' house in this book at the end. It was the Magnum Opus of the Queer Collective. I wish I was at that party. Where the hell did the llama come from?!?! Every element of that extended interlude was epic and full of Sadenverse lore. It was like someone was shucking a bushel of onions and rapidly peeling back that amount of layers at breakneck speed, everything the characters said and did was a gift/lore. I am not sure that Saxon and Eden can top this Magnum opus. I hope that when they do eventually end the Puckboys series they go out on a Queer Collective bang like this party.

Some notable moments: (I struggled so much to pick only a few to call out! I'm not even going to post any of my favorite highlights from the party at Aleks' because I can't pick between them and I don't want to spoil the overall effect of that party)

Cackle. This is the Sadenverse... "We’re all part of one big murder map with six degrees of separation."

It worked for Ezra! "“What should I do?” “Taunt him until he shoves you up against a wall and takes you there and then?” I’m concerned by how easily that came to him. “That is not a thing that would ever work.” “Ah, yeah, never,” Anton mutters somewhere in the background."

Elena is awesome. "She’s not intimidating. She’s not. “Need me to take all the knives?” Novi lowers his voice, but Elena must hear him because she snorts. “Of course not,” I say. Loudly. But my eyes must say something else because Novi picks up the knife block and tucks it under his arm. “Let’s go, kids!”"

Novi thinking he's smiling and coming off happy/nice when really his smile looks terrifying is hilarious. "“Besides, we’ll be at Oskar and Lane’s house, which is technically in public but also within the safety of the Queer Collective, who are vowed to silence when it comes to me.” My lips twitch. “You made them take a vow of silence?” “No. They super nicely offered it to me. It was weird.” “Were you, by any chance, smiling at them when they did it?” “I was! How did you know?” “Just a hunch.” A hunch that they were scared to death by him."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

God where to I even start…

The story line feels rinsed and repeated from the other ones where a player touches management/ PR

The endless horrible Russian / I don’t know English joke is repeated more than the word the in this book. He has been in the US over 20 years so it doesn’t even make sense. I know I know it’s all an act but it’s an act that isn’t even plausible.

The last 50% honestly felt soooo fluff to hit a word count as well, we get a lot more collective in this book but it seems so thrown in that it doesn’t really fit.

I was honestly so excited for this book but it seems like we are just racing for a word count vs actual trying to get deep into the characters…

And lastly there was meh on the spice level…
Where was the omg this is so hot I need a fan moment!?

It just seemed more like trying to continue to pump out book after book in this series with similar plots then actually trying something different and taking our time writing a good book anymore

I think this book was fine but it felt like they kept going over and rehashing the same conflict again and again.
And now that I’m an old boring lady, the collective really annoys me. Reading about grown men getting so drunk and stealing llamas, very juvenile and annoying.
It should also be stated that I read this book while I was on vacation so imagine me on a beach in the Bahamas sipping a daiquiri without a care in the world, and this book still managed to annoy me 🤣. It took over a week to read because I needed breaks lol.

This series has run its course unfortunately.

I’m so bummed! I’m just so bored with this series at this point lol. The QC is just getting more and more convoluted and to be frank… it’s tired. Their dumb humor isn’t hitting the mark, the steam is lifeless, and it feels uninspired. I’m actually surprised the duo is still dragging this series along. It feels like even they didn’t want to write this.

I just love a good forbidden romance! What really made this one for me was that Novi felt like a real tangible character. And his antics had me laughing out loud a few times! I didn’t connect as much with Colby, but it was still an enjoyable read. I just love Novi so much, and it’s always enjoyable to have other members of the Queer Collective show up.

Endless telling, endless monologues and half-finished sentences. Novi’s supposedly charming quirks just annoyed me. After nearly 20 years in the USA, you’d think he could manage a full English sentence. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't funny.

An absolutely boring love story, and no, not funny at all.

🟢 A senior NHL player / new coach
🔵 Former friends and teammates
🟣 Age gap 19/21 and 36/38
🟡 No size difference, both tall, athletic, dark, handsome
🟢 Both gay
🟠 Some known side characters, it didn't do much
🌶️ Sex was the best part of the story; descriptive, some off-page ; first times, oral, penetrative; both vers

The first thing that threw me was the lack of a real setup for Novi and Colby. We only get a quick intro of them on the same hockey team, but there’s no sense of how close they are. Novi goes on to play in the NHL , Colby doesn't make it and becomes a coach.

Later we’re told they were best friends and even roommates with constant tension between them, but none of that is actually shown before the story starts.

Now that they’re older with Novi wrapping up his career and Colby's just beginning, the so-called longing and pining between them never really comes through. It’s talked about, but not felt.

Novi’s sexual history is another confusing point. He's inexperienced with men aside from a couple of glory holes, but it’s unclear whether he’s a complete virgin or just new to men.

When Novi and Colby finally do get together, the way everything just lines up for them makes the story too neat. It lacked tension, stakes, or anything fresh to hold my interest.

The sex was great, though. Gotta give it that.

The rest, however, same old, same old.

* Best books for me in this series : Ezra and Anton, Aleks and Gabe, Connor and Parker.

”It’s either my body wanting to fulfill the fantasy of him, or maybe I had real feelings for the guy, and being in his orbit again has made them resurface. All that’s running through my mind at the moment is this is our chance, and my brain won’t let go of that. Even if I know it’s better for both of us if we don’t follow through on this.”

Stubborn Puckboy is another great addition to the fabulous Puckboys series by Eden Finley and Saxon James. This is book 9 and it’s Novi and Colby’s story.

I wanted to love this one since I've always enjoyed the Puckboys series, but this one fell a little flat for me. I feel like it was missing some of the relationship development since they just picked right up without really getting to know each other again. Novi did have me laughing with his game of people correcting his misuse of English sayings. I'm also glad Novi finally got his moment and his chance to live his truth. The moments with the growing Queer Collective and all of their chaos were my favorite. I love that their group is growing and I love their never ending support for each other. Overall, this was still enjoyable, but not a standout in comparison to others from this series.

I feel like I’m betraying my roots. These two authors were among the ones who first pulled me into the wonderful world of MM romance, and not loving one of their books always makes me feel bad. This one was honestly a struggle to finish. It just kept going, and I just kept getting bored. Sadly, it gave me the same feeling I had when I read “Forbidden Puckboy,” I just wanted to get through it and move on.

There were aspects I liked, but overall it felt uninspired to me. I didn’t feel the excitement I usually get with this series, and I hate that, because I really do love Novi. He’s such a sweet character, and I’ll always adore a dry-humored, teddy bear of a Russian hockey player. I didn’t get much from Colby in terms of personality or memorability, but I did like the way he was with Novi. The characters themselves weren’t exactly the problem, it was the plot. I just got bored. It wasn’t anything new, and usually I don’t mind that, but this time I just couldn’t get invested. Still, there were three moments that made me glad I didn’t DNF this book:

2. Every single appearance of the queer collective members — They never fail to create chaos and make me laugh out loud. I love all of them, and their interactions are gold. They’re like little kids in the best way. Honestly, the epilogue with them was one of my favorite parts of the whole book.

“Yeah,” Colby says. “You have to nip this behavior in the butt.”
“I think you mean bud. But yes. I’ve learned.” Lane pours himself another drink.
“Careful, Ezra is ready to curl into the feeble position,” I add.
“It’s fetal, and no I’m not.” He plants his hands on his hips as Colby and I high-five twice under the counter.

3. Novi’s plan to save both of their jobs — Did it feel realistic? I don’t know enough about the ins and outs of hockey to say. But it was romantic, and I loved how it allowed them to be out as a couple.

“He doesn’t know that I’m here talking to you because he loves his job, and we both know how good he is at it. He wouldn’t risk it for anything. If I have to give up my career for him to have his, then I will. It’s done. But I can’t go one more day without getting a chance to make that man happy.”

I shift in my seat. “You want a trade?”
“Da. I want anything that will give me a chance to make you happy.” Well, fuck. I refuse to look at him too long because there’s no way they’ll miss how in love with him I am.”

------

I also really appreciated the inclusion and handling of Russian culture in relation to the LGBTQ+ community. It was horrible and heartbreaking to read, but also so important. Even if it’s through a fictional character, showing someone trapped by those beliefs sheds light on a reality that shouldn’t be ignored.

“Now I’m asking you the exact same question. You stand up for Kessinger. Will you stand up for me, too, when I need it?” I will him to catch on, and it’s like I can see the thoughts turning behind his eyes. The moment drags on so long I feel sick.
Turkey’s mouth drops suddenly, eyes blinking rapidly. “Novi …”
“I deserve to exist too, even if in secret,” I force out.

I hate giving this one a low rating, because it wasn’t bad — I’d give it 2.6 stars. I laughed, I loved the relationship between Colby and Novi, though I just didn’t connect with it as much. I loved seeing the other queer collective members, and I loved the happy ending with Novi finally free and able to live openly with the man he loves. But still… this one just wasn’t for me. I got bored.

“I want you. I want you now. And if I have to face the reality I’ve been hiding from for the last seventeen years to have you, then I will. Because I didn’t let this happen once before, and I’m not going to make that same mistake again.”

This is another great example why Eden & Saxon are my absolute comfort authors. Stubborn Puckboy matches the vibe of the rest of the Puckboys series and the Sadenverse. It's lighthearted, super funny (like literally laughing out loud funny), good hockey rep (like you know they know what they're talking about) and so many great cameos that just feel like coming home.

Regarding the story itself: Novi and Colby first met in their first AHL season, after which Colby's pro hockey career tanked and Novi moved on to the big leagues.
Colby worked hard for his coaching career afterwards - and seventeen years later, he's called up to be the video coach for Novi's NHL team. But Colby can't forget about a ✨moment✨ they shared, before it all went to shit and Novi started to be closed off towards him and later broke off any contact. Novi has his own struggles keeping him from having the life he wants, but he has to ask himself if it all is worth it sooner rather than later.

It's about struggling to come out in pro sports, especially if you have to think of the consequences your actions might have for others. The Puckboys series is already a kinda queer-normative series, because it happens after the Fake Boyfriend series by Eden Finley, which feature the first out gay players in the NHL in this universe. So the outing struggle is a bit different than one might think, but I really liked that approach. Colby and Novi pine for each other, and really complement each other - and their journey was beautiful (and super funny) to witness. Also, that first kiss? I don't think I've ever read a better first kiss scene that gave me that much of a fluttery stomach.

The side characters are great again, and I honestly think we've reached the point where it's not that enjoyable to read the book as a standalone - because so much of this humour is transported through cameos and references to the other books, which honestly elevated the story for me as a huge Sadenverse nerd.

It was a quick read, super flowy writing style as usual, charming characters and I just had a great time!

Something else I don't want to leave out: I see the ick some people addressed with the specific video coach x player pairing after what happened with the Chicago Blackhawks organisation in 2010 and video coach Brad Aldrich, and I think storywise it wasn't necessary to make Colby a video coach - he could have been any other kind of assistant coach. I want to say nothing here happens in any kind of morally grey area and the history these characters have is what the story is based on rather than the forced proximity through the coach/player interaction. But they still could have changed Colby's position, I see that.

Ya know what? I’m gonna round up. I’m feeling nice. This was really sweet and I enjoyed the story. There were some moments that didn’t feel super realistic, but I don’t normally read for realism.

I will say, in a series like this I enjoy seeing side characters appear, but when it comes to an epilogue, I want to see the couple together. The epilogue we got would’ve made a nice bonus chapter. I wanted to see the couple living their lives together in the actual epilogue.

Absolutely loved this one! I know every single time I pick up one of these books I’m going to get a great story with tons of laughs, I will never get tired of this series. I knew I was going to love Novi, but he quickly became my new favorite Puckboy, him and Colby were just so perfect together. This one was so much fun, secret relationship, coach x player, friends to strangers to lovers, selective language barrier, and lots of Collective shenanigans.

“I am lucky that you love me. I am privileged to even have the chance for you to love me. And I don’t want to mess this up. The world might love Novi, hockey extraordinaire, but only you get to love Radimir Novicov, the real me. The scared boy who grew up to be a scared man.”

Memorable Moment(s):

“Colby Kessinger was the first and last man I let myself care about.”

“Yes it was, because the answer is simple. I want you. I want you now. And if I have to face the reality I’ve been hiding from for the last seventeen years to have you, then I will. Because I didn’t let this happen once before, and I’m not going to make that same mistake again.”

Tropes:
• Second Chance
• Friends to Strangers to Lovers
• Coach x Player
• Secret/Forbidden Relationship
•Found Family
• “Collective Cameos”

I think Novi is my new favorite hockey player of this series! He was such a grumpy cinnamon roll, and i cackled every time he mixed up American phases on purpose or said “Sorry don’t speak English” when he wanted to avoid a conversation OR talking to Colby. And omg Colby was such a sweetheart, I found myself so protective of him, as did a certain Russian hockey player. Colby just loved the game of hockey and if he couldn’t play it anymore, he pivoted to being a coach, which put him back in Novi orbit.

I loved the banter between these two and how they had to dance around themselves while at work while secretly wanting to tear each other clothes off. They were so sweet and kind to each other when they were together and no one was around. And can I just say I was feral for how protective Novi was of Colby’s feelings and his career. (Sooo hot!)

Also, we get an abundance of Queer Collective content in this one, I love every minute of it!

Overall this story was the ultimate feel good, second chance, forbidden sports romance between the star hockey player and his coach. Such a great addition to the Puckboy series, I hope Eden and Saxon never stop writing these 💜

Stubborn Puckboy is one of my favorite books of this series. I was laughing so much while reading, at one point I was even wheezing. There were also times I was so emotional I was holding back tears. The laughter came from Novi’s shenanigans and of course the pure chaos that is the rest of the Collective. The emotion came from Novi’s struggles with having to be in closet despite being ready to live his life the way he wants and Colby having to deal with the possibility of losing his dream job. Speaking of the pair, they had undeniable chemistry and the spice was fantastic. As I expected, after they’d been crushing on each other for so long. I loved Colby and Novi’s story and I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
