A list that contains spoilers, as I do with all these books:

~ This is a somehow lamer version of the previous book, just in a different location

~ Napolean Bonapart is a vampire. He is also friends with Kyle, the psychotic and extremely unstable villain

~ The moral of the story is that we don't have any free agency and everything is ultimately defined by fate. This doesn't really play out in the narrative, but this is the idea Caitlin is trying to push for some reason

~ The writing is just 🤌 ~perfection~
"Kyle was stunned from the ordeal as he flew away, and realized he’d need more manpower than he needed."

Each outfit was more beautiful and extravagant than the next.

[she] willed herself to use the new skill that Aiden had showed her.

~ After causing the untimely death of her severely neglected wolf pup, Caitlin is given another chance and a random wolf pup shows up. She names her Ruth

~ Caitlin gets mad at Caleb for having hope that his dead kid (that she also caused the untimely death of) might be alive/can be resurrected. She refuses to go with him to see if he is alive, and when he goes anyway, she thinks this means that he still loves his ex even though he begged her to come with him. She also got mad at him moments before because she thought he was going to break up with her even though he was actually going to propose

~ Sera, the mom of the dead kid, claims that the dead kid is alive, even though we are now even further in the past and he hasn't even been born yet

~ Nehemia from Throne of Glass is in this for some reason lol

~ Sam (Caitlin's brother, not to be confused with Samuel, Caleb's brother, or Samantha, Sam's ex) and Polly have some whiplash instalove and then fall for other people, who both turn out to be evil

~ The girl Sam left Polly for convinces him to turn her into a vampire, and then she immediately gets on all fours and rampages down the hallway like a rabid animal in the exact same way that Sam rampaged like an escaped chimpanzee when he was turned

~ An out-of-context quote:
The two of them met in the air with a vicious sound, the sound of their bodies crashing into each other echoing

~ I forgot to include this vital piece of information but as it turns out, Aiden and Caitlin are Jedi's

While I like the STORY of this series, the writing style is really getting on my nerves. There is a ton of really forced cliff-hanger chapter endings that are just unnecessary. And I'm sick and tired of Caitlin completely overreacting to every single thing that happens with Caleb and/or Blake. How anyone who has survived centuries could have any patience for her 15 year old girl drama (yes, i know she's older, but she doesn't act it) is beyond me.

All that being said, the story is interesting, and I'll continue to read the series regardless of the poor writing and the lameness of the main character to find out how the story ends. I just find myself the ending would come sooner with this series.

I started reading the first book because it was free on my brand new kobo reader. I was excited and I very happy to see that I could download books for free. I should have known better, what you pay is what you get. I got the rest of the series, as the first book was obviously not finished, even though it ended... I hate not finishing books, but I'm struggling this time. The more I read, the harder I find it to go on.
Caitlin is simply put, a huge drama queen. She's 18, yet she doesn't act like one. Hell, she doesn't act like a 15-year-old either, as another reviewer mentions. She seems more like a 13-year-old, just into puberty. Caleb on the other side is over 3000 years old. A parenthesis here, in the first book I thought Caleb was 3000 years old, then I thought he was 4000, and let's not forget Kyle, I have no idea how old that vampire is... Now, coming back to Caitlin and Caleb, how is it possible that a vampire such as Caleb, with thousands of years of life experience, who can't attach himself to people but only memories (or something like that), can be attracted to a superficial girl like Caitlin? Vampires do not get married, but if they do it is sort of permanent (something like the whole mating and imprinting in the Twilight series...). How is it possible that Caleb has been married to Sera for only 10 years and has already fallen out of love with her. He loved her enough to marry her! Also, how can a father, who has lost his child so violently, think about his lover above all? Caitlin is supposed to have loved instantly Caleb's child, how can she think that he's running to his estranged wife when he gets a message that his son is alive? And how can a thousands year old vampire think that he can remove the child from his mother and have him live with his lover and be happily ever after? Oh, and I just remembered the weird time travel. Caleb's son died in 1791 somewhere in Italy. When Caleb and Caitlin return to 1789 in France, Caleb is already in that period, maybe in another part of Europe and he's married to Sera and their son is alive. Jade (the son) is not 10 years old, but 8, we've gone back in time people!!! So how can Caleb think his son is not alive? Furthermore, where is Caleb of the year 1789, because this Caleb is of the year 1791, unless there's another type of time travel... And I just remembered that Kyle mentions he's anxious to return to New York and be a part of the war... but I thought once you go back in time you can't go back to the future, or present or whatever...
I'm giving myself a headache... and to think I stopped reading "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" because I have it in a hardcopy.
Another thing, the names, what kind of thousands of years old vampire has a name such as Kyle? Because 4000 years ago, when the civilizations on earth were the Greek, the Egyptian, the Chinese, the Viking, the names Kyle or Caleb or Robert or Samantha or Samuel were very common... Seriously? Oh and Kendra (not the playboy mansion girl) is a very French name, and especially used in the 18th century... At least Sergei is a Russian name.
And Mozart? In 1791 playing in Venice? Mozart became quickly and violently ill in the autumn of 1791, and finally died on December 5th 1791. When did he go to Venice to play for the vampire ball?
If you're "mad" like me and can't stand to not finish a book, please do not start reading the series, otherwise, you'll find for yourself how poorly written the books are, how there's no character development at all, and so many mistakes, either typo (wrong names in wrong places "Caitlin and Caitling" when it should have been "Caitlin and Caleb") or no editing, and you'll eventually stop reading.

Same as book 4 just different time and place

Before my review I'll just say that I read this over a year ago but never intended to review, I'm only doing so now since this is being pushed on bookbub and I don't want you to make the same mistake I did, I bought all the books through to and including 8, saved them up and read them together, if you're enjoying this series take my advice and buy them one at a time.
This is literally the same book as the last one and for that matter the one before that, I'm not giving anything away but it's the same as the next one as well.
On top of the story being so repetitive it's literally the same book it's full of mistakes.

Finished this book last night. One thing I like about the book is that it doesn't rehash everything that happened in the last books in the first chapter, it just dives right in.
While I enjoy the story itself, there are flaws in character development. Caitlin overreacts constantly, complete drama queen. It is rather irritating.

The other thing that gets on my nerves about this entire series is the words. I'm not sure if it's just the e-book version, or if the editor sucks that bad. There were words where there didn't need to be, and wrong words, or names in the wrong place. It got quite confusing at times.

I read the first book in this series due to the price, it was only $0.99 on B&N for Ipad. I should have have stopped there and saved myself the cash. The author is re-hashing the story line over and over again. Also, the characters are fickle. Every time something happens it's "the best I've ever known" how can everything out there be the best of your life? This rose is the best smelling rose I have ever smelled, this water is the clearest I've ever seen, this weapon sparkles more than any other, etc etc etc until you're ready to slit your wrists. Chaotic and redundant. I put off reading the next Dark Hunter book for this...blah!

This female is really starting to grate my cheese! She is soooo hung up on men! She's too busy doing things to make men happy and not worrying about herself. Always fearful that her boyfriend is going to leave her, or that she's going to disappoint her mentor, or her father won't love her if she gives up this mission. She's worried her lil bro hates her & that this other guy doesn't remember her. Get a life hefa! You need to figure out who you want to be. Who you are and spend less time worrying about these men! If they truely love you they still will, no matter what! Now get back onto your mission and enjoy the ride you time traveling warrior vamp!!!

I went thru the last book really quick wanting to get this part of story only because it does start with Caitlin and Caleb being together. They are brought to now 1789 Rome. Caitlin on cloud nine being with Caleb and wanting to have some form of normally for at least a while. Caleb meanwhile is happy to be with Caitlin but deep down is mourning for his son. Sam has made it thru the time travel along with Kyle. Sam is here to help his sister find their father and Kyle well he is Kyle always causing problems and is mad as ever and wants to kill and always causes problems Kyle just shows once again how much trouble this man can cause in one city!! Even thousand year old Vampires cant get a hint you would think this man would learn but hey like every evil character he is hell bent on killing Caitlin, Caleb and Sam. At this point I am getting mad at Caleb as soon as was able to make me happy he allows Serena to get him to go to with a message of Jade is here and deep down he knows it is not possible his son is dead and knows what a pysco Serena he leaves Catlin to get his son. Time travel doesn't change things Aiden shows up to put Caitlin back on track.

Another good addition to the series. The story is continuing with the search for the Shield and Caitlin's father.

Caitlin again travels back in time in search for her father and the ever elusive Shield that will save all Vampires. Caitlin has gone back a couple years to 1789. She finds Caleb and everything seems perfect until Caleb receives a message. Off he goes and Caitlin is left alone and hurting.

Caitlin begins the search again and off on another treasure hunt. Going from beautiful church and scenery to beautiful church, all set in Paris. Will Caitlin find the Shield and her Father? What will happen with Caleb? Will Sam, her brother find true love and the Shield?

The descriptions and amazing detailing involved in the book is the best part. Morgan has such vivid details and Caitlin is only building her character with every Journal.

Next is Betrothed #6. Betrothed

Desired (Book #5 in the Vampire Journals) was another fantastic installment to a wonderful series. Desired has Caitlin in 1789 Paris. She is on a mission to find her father, the Shield and four keys. Caitlin is tired and just wants to spend the rest of her life with Caleb. She thinks that she has found her perfect ending, when someone from Caleb's past shows up and ruins everything. Caitlin decides that she must fulfill her destiny by finding her father. Her brother Sam finds himself in the woods and is found by Polly. Polly was sent to take him back to Aiden whose coven are serving none other than Marie Antoinette. Sam becomes enraptured with Kendra who is royalty and wants to be turned. Caitlin's arch enemy, Kyle, has also followed her back in time hellbent on killing her. He enlists the help of Napoleon's army of degenerate vampires. Everyone comes together at the end for the ultimate battle at Notre Dame. Then, Caitlin finds herself once again sent back in time. Betrothed will be Book #6 in the series.

I'm just going to quote my review of the first book in this series

This book was: simple; which is so tragic because it could have been so much better.
The plot had: potential... but didn't find the right key to success.

The beginning was: intriguing.
The middle was: so-so.
The crescendo was: nice.
The finish/ending was: great.

The characters were: good; but they all could have improved and put on a little polish in my opinion.
The worldbuilding was: too much, yet at the same time, too little. The worldbuilding had all the wrong details, and none of the right.
The language was: horrible. Even I (who have Swedish as my first and native language) could find a number of faults on almost every page! That's unacceptable!

Would I recommend this book? Yes/no? Why/why not? No, not if I could recommend something better...; which of course I can! ;)

The first 3/4 of this book is nearly identical to Volume 4 except in this case the year is 1789 and they are in Paris instead of Venice. We have Caitlin and Caleb together but Caleb leaving Caitlin after he hears from his wife Sera that his son Jade is alive. Caitlin of course completely overreatcts thinking tha Caleb is still in love with Sera. As a result, she gets her rear in gear and proceeds to attempt to complete her mission. The action does pick up in the last 1/4 of the book as she follows various clues her father left her in search of the second of the four keys she will need to obtain the Shield and see her father.

I think this tale could have been written in 3 books if the author would have cut the fluff that appears in each book for the purpose of marking time so more books can be sold. Good tale but only when the fluff is eliminated. On to Volume 6.

This book is just a hot mess of writing. I had been hoping the series would get better as you go along, but it's really just getting worse.

From huge plot holes - going back in time to a different country, but not knowing the language, with no mention of how they automatically learn how to communicate; the use of materials (titanium) for thousands of years before it was even discovered. To just a totally unlikable and overall bratty main character - I had to force myself to finish this book.

In addition to that, there are glaringly obvious typos - and while I normally don't complain about that, these are really THAT bad, and that often. The author also continuously inappropriately uses other words, but at least those are spelled correctly.

Overall a very disappointing book in an equally disappointing series.

The overall story line is interesting, and I do want to continue reading the rest of the series so I can fully get the story. However, the amount of typos/missing words/using wrong names is really getting to be annoying. That is the reason why I have given this book three stars instead of four. It would be five if there was not as much repeating of phrases such as "this time and place" and the general repeating of the plot line. If we just read something in the same book, it is not necessary to tell us what the character just did.

I still like the series, but Caitlin is getting on my nerves. The decisions she makes as well as how she ALWAYS jumps to the wrong conclusion. How am I suppose to believe that she is supposed to be the person that helps all vampire kind? REALLY??? I hope the next book changes her more!!

Seriously irritating to keep dragging this story out in book after book! And now they are all ending the same way with cliffhangers- none of them good as a stand-alone read. Too short to be broken up into so many books but I guess that's how they get more $$ out of the readers!

Great story but difficult to read with all the errors. The editor really dropped the ball on this series. I have really enjoyed the series thus far and quickly snag the next book each time (totally because of the story line). However, characters names are sometimes mixed up, duplicate words used, completely wrong word used at times, and I have yet to read an entire chapter in any of the books that does not have several grammatical or spelling errors. As a teacher, I may be using this series as an example of the importance of editing. And to the author, Morgan Rice, you have written a well thought out series of books with an intriguing storyline but I would look for a new publisher/editor for any future endeavors.

Written slightly better than 4 but still with timeline discrepancies. I also don't understand how Polly and Sam didn't know who Sergi was right away. I mean, Polly I can kind of see since she only remembers her future from dreams. Sam should've known right away though. Anyway, the writing is still middle school, at best. A few sentences that stuck with me were: "He realized he was going to need more backup than he needed", "she walked into the darkness. It was dark", and "she realized he was going to be just fine, when she saw that look on his face, she knew he was going to be alright". I just have a hard time even seeing how an editor touched this. Still hanging in there for the rest of the story though.

I'm really disappointed in this book. Number five was exactly like book number 4 and it seems like book number 6 is going to be exactly the same. I really want to finish this series but I'm not sure I can go any farther with it at this point. The immaturity of Caitlin in this book it's so much worse than the others. To the point that you don't even want to continue reading because she is so immature. Completely disappointed!

Well, this book didn’t seem the greatest, but had some good parts. Caitlin travels further back in time to the medieval period. She finds her love Caleb and lives with him in his castle hoping she’ll stay and be happy. Things take a turn and she ends up training with Aiden and his coven. She finds her inner strength and abilities here. Runs into her brother and his new evil girlfriend which turns on him after he does something stupid. Kyle is still in the background plotting against Caitlin.

I could not finish reading this book. I got this far into the series because I liked the storyline and hoped that as each book progressed the writing itself would improve. Sadly, it did not. Each book actually seems to follow the same pattern and sequence except the places and a few of the characters might change. Hats off to the marketing team for selling this book,if only the same energy was put into the execution of the actual books.

I absolutely love this series and this is probably my favorite of the series so far!! Filled with so much action, questions (some of which are answered), suspense, love, longing, and so many other things I can't even think of all the words to say right now. I just wanna get on to reading the next book!

Caitlin is bouncing through time in search of her elusive father. This poor girl must be feeling like a pinball. Every time she solves one riddle she is given another quest. Caleb is with her at last but Sam and Poly got left behind or did they? Sam seems to be questing for dad too but it’s not clear if he seeks relics too. We’ve got to keep reading to see if they all meet back up in the future.
