Burnt, Bitter, Better

Rate this book
He never told me to get revenge. Not directly, but he asked what I needed and where it hurt, all while offering me a way to fix it.

We weren't supposed to touch. He wasn't meant to break through the walls I carefully crafted. But my new therapist did anyways. He looked past the withdrawn woman, and saw the traumatized girl.

What grew between us was wrong, forbidden, and beautiful.

What I did after? That was mine.

I don't know if I'll ever be the same girl who rolled her eyes in his office. This version of me doesn't cower or shy away.

She burns. I'll set fire to anything in my way, starting with the one person who broke me to begin with.

BURNT, BITTER, BETTER🩷

i love me a fast paced,uber spicy novella🥹

brielle,my cunty lil badass,i love you so much!!!

this is a re-read for me especially after building such a beautiful friendship with ava as of late and shit i forgot how good this book is. the best novelette i've read in a while!

feminine rage, murder in all its graphics forms, and SUBMISSION. but.. SUBMISSION FROM A MAN? yes, please.

we follow brielle from past to present, spanning back two years when she had a life changing event (no spoilers,do you even know me?) & her journey to self discovery. alongside her THERAPIST johnathon, they go on a journey together, a journey of REVENGE.

let's rate?

characters?? 5⭐️
brielle & johnathon. literally. they are a POWER couple and i can't even wait to read more about brielle (& johnathon too, right ava?) but the way they are written,in such a short story is quite something! ava really did a wonder on this one. and i'm utterly obsessed. brielle is written really relatable to me having been through similar and then finding a man willing to submit to regain control was as life changing for me as it was brielle! and johnathon. he is written in such a way, there is something about an obsessive yet submissive man. big up the submissive men too btw? who ever said submissive men aren't attractive is a big fat liar.

plot? 5⭐️
the plot line in this is so beautiful, it follows quite a sad sad plot line and beautiful brielle has a struggle (not spoilinggggg) & she really does go into a recluse. ava wrote it in a way where this happens irl too, they are eerily perfectly written by ava and she captured brielle's story perfectly! from struggling with a life changing event,to gaining her power back with the help of johnathon, to avenging her attacker. the fact it is crammed so beautifully into such a short, fast paced story is perfectly done! the book deals with heavy topics (especially this day in age) but is dealt with such grace and a way where although hard to read,it is approached with sensitivity and is clearly stated if it will be triggering, which i massively approach ava for! amongst many other things in this book, you can avoid it. but the story wouldn't be complete without it.

spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
she is spicy! hella spicy! but in a femme domme way,not a conventional sense! even with the flashbacks,it doesn't take away from the spice & definitely gives you clarity when reading the spicy scenes. i actually think the flashbacks make it better,it adds to the plot line and makes the big O even sweeter (see what i did there?😏) think..
WORSHIP. HER. that is what you get with this!👁️

overall??? 6⭐️
i have no complaints and i will always be obsessed with ava's work, always. but this one, femme rage is something i think will always resonate as a woman but especially in this day in age. & literally the pacing is perfect, the writing style is everything, the plot line is personal yet far enough written away from irl it's not triggering for me, it also gives you closure you can't get irl but you sort of live through brielle?? & i mean it's taboo, femme rage, a novella. i was going to love it🥹✨

...

Honestly, I thought it was going to be better. I waited months for this book, only for it to be narrated so superficially (?

While it's a short book and you can't expect much, I didn't think it would end on a cliffhanger or whatever that ending is supposed to be.

Now, if it's supposed to be the introduction to a series with a badass FMC, I'm in. If it isn't, then it's mid.

Now this is what I call feminine rage 🙌🏼 after being unable to even consider intimacy, she gets a therapist that goes the ✨extra mile✨ and she ends up getting the nerve to 🔪take care🔪 of her 🍇ist once and for all.

The author said this will eventually be turned into a full length book but is a chaotic good time & quick read! I’m excited to read the full length version whenever it’s finished!

Okay, this book was so good. I had no expectations going in, but this less than 65 page novellete really had me hooked.

We switch back and forth between the past and present timelines and this book is all about Brielle. About trauma that she has gone through, her progress in the last two years, and her finally getting her life back.

Jonathan and her were hot hot hot and I need to find me a therapist like that!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/🌶️🌶️.5

This was Ava’s first baby and I have read all her work since then!!!!

This is a quick spicy read but still hits some pretty heavy topics so please check your triggers!

Look if you have been contemplating therapy this may be the book you need to push you in the right direction😂

I loved seeing Brielle find herself again! Take back her power! Her worth! Her confidence! Her sexuality!

This is a short story that draws you in from the start. I loved seeing the time jumps from present day to past time.

I enjoyed seeing Brielle’s story and how she coped with what happened to her. Her therapist Johnathon was everything in this book. I love how boundaries were pushed for the better with these two.

The ending was AMAZING. I love how things ended for Brielle, but I can’t wait to see what else will come from these characters.

Oooh, I loved this. Absolutely devoured the whole thing in one sitting.

Burnt, Bitter, Better is such a dark and visceral exploration of SA, trauma, and revenge — with a spicy, taboo therapist/patient dynamic thrown in.

This is a dark romance with 100% clear, on-page consent between the couple, but SA in the FMC's history and flashbacks.

I loved Brielle as a character, as well as the author's writing style, and can't wait to read more of her story!

Come on already. The editing was abhorrent. DNF due to poor writing and editing (if editing was even done?) makes me terribly sad to say that because I LOVE indie authors but this was just horrid.
