No Me Molestes, Nagatoro N.11

The judo tournament is in full swing and it turns out that Nagatoro’s been thrown by it in more ways than one. Later on, the new school year means new students and that means that Nagatoro might have met her match, just as Senpai is meeting his!
Well, it was bound to happen, but this could be the most perfected form of Nagatoro that might ever exist. It weaves the jokes, the heart, the comedy, and, yes, the teasing into a very well-realized tapestry that hits a ton of the notes just right.
The judo tournament winds up going in some surprising directions and all credit to the mangaka for writing it this way. It would have been all too easy to overwrite this and make it into a real cheeseball moment, or two, but they get far better results with the choices made. There’s a lot going on with both our leads and it really lets them do a lot for one another.
It was interesting to get a little Nagatoro backstory that was surprisingly relatable and depicts something that I’d wager many people doing competitive anything (or suffering from impostor syndrome) have had to wrestle with. I think she’s been softened up plenty over the series, but her continued humanization is good stuff.
That’s the nice thing about this series - these characters haven’t remained static. Sure, the pace may be glacial, but they’ve all come a long way. Okay, maybe not Yosshii, whose idiocy provides the best laugh during the judo matches and delivers the perfect closing line of this volume.
And with the start of the new year, Nagatoro suddenly has less time to hang out in the art club, for reasons, which is just in time for somebody else to show up, who just happens to have history with Senpai.
This part is ridiculously funny, especially as Nagatoro’s double standard starts to cause her to implode. She’s allowed to say that Senpai is a creep and a loser, but if he says they’re not even good friends, he’s in for a noodle-armed bopping. Half of the hold-up in their coupling is her refusal to be honest with herself and having to play the games she does.
Along with Senpai’s Nagatoro impression and the strangest wiggle competition on record, this also features some incredibly shoehorned in fan service, which suddenly makes perfect sense when it turns out this new member has a rather direct connection to an old member (who has a cameo appearance where they appear to now be roughly 60% breast).
Which is all normal enough for this series, so why should it rate any higher? Sure, our leads are still doing the same back and forth they always have, Nagatoro is still cruelly using virgin as a taunt, she bops, he flails, nothing changes.
Except, of course, when everything changes. Faced with the loss of their time together in the art club, neither of our leads feels that they should give up their pursuits. But there’s plenty of time outside of club, of course.
Not that Senpai would ever have the guts or Nagatoro would ever admit to liking him, so that’s the end of that, naturally. Except maybe, just maybe, despite not exactly being the best at this, Senpai might pull it all together in the clinch and accomplish something that’s been many, many volumes in the making.
And it was worth the wait.
4.5 stars - that ending though. No, this won’t convert anybody not already invested, but if you were wondering if all that teasing and goofing around and awkwardness and such would pay off? Yeah, it totally did.

The best volume yet. It introduces the President’s cousin who is just as wacky, she’s great! But the end with our two protagonists figuring out how or what to do on a supposed future date is CLASSIC Nagatoro. Too funny 😂

I honestly don't know if I have actually finished this volume, because it's hard to keep track when you read online... I definitely wanna buy these volumes physically, but they are so expensive for being so short.

Finally the big question (in a sense) was asked. The official date is on its way. This volume was great begging to end. I would have never thought that a tournament style sub plot would work in a rom-com but it fits amazingly. That and the teasing that's basically just flirting at this point is all on point.

It's the Judo arc as Nagatoro Hayase and Nao "wrestle" with their feelings for each other and cheer each other on. Madame President has graduated and gone off to Art college but a new rival appears in the form of her also busty Cousin, a High School first year who was in art club with Nao in Middle School and who seems almost as uninhibited as her older cousin. Nagatoro squares off against a former middle school Judo rival who trained hard and eventually beat her in a match, making Nagatoro lose motivation to practice Judo anymore. She loses here again but puts up a good fight...maybe she's just rusty. She tells Nao if she beats her rival she wants him to kiss her as a reward. He's flustered and says she's pulling his leg....she looks him straight in the face with all seriousness and says she's not. Then turns and runs home. But the image of Hayase telling Nao effectively that she definitely wants him to kiss her and means it sincerely stays etched in his mind. It's so true to life...you never forget moments like that. By volume's end Nao finds the courage to ask Hayase out to the local aquarium and she says yes joyfully, without reservation.

You know why you’re here…
Back at volume 1 we all thought poor senpai was being bullied and maybe we just wanted him to stand up to his tormented but this is volume 11 and we know better don’t we? Nagatoro continues to do her best in her own uniquely challenging way to support and encourage her oh-so-timid senpai into enjoying his high school life and becoming the person he truly deserves to be. Is she a saint? Uh no. Very much not a saint - she is in this at least partly for the laughs but by now almost everyone except senpai and the titular heroine have realised what is going on and are also, in their own ways supporting them both.
So this is volume 11 of one of the most wholesome manga around and one that I really hope also gets another season of the very brilliant animé too. And if they animate this volume it’ll be pure comedy gold and also a very sweet romance.

4 stars

Senpai finally gets the courage to ask Nagatoro on a d-d-d-date! And, Nagatoro finally gets some much needed character depth only 11 volumes in… I guess that finally explains the naturalness of her combat stance modeling pose a few volumes back. I’m shocked that Senpai pulled off the bonus chapter massage though.

(see review of vol. 14 for review of vols 9-14)
The last few pages of chapter 86 (last chapter before the bonus) gave me goosebumps. I may have even squealed. The timing relative to the series could not have been more perfect.

This installment features Nagatoro and Senpai slowly growing closer. Unfortunately a new obstacle/supporter returns who feels like they are going to add overall story telling.

Things are moving at an amazing pace, and so much is happening... and yet, this feels like a good natural evolution from the previous volumes. I can't wait for the next one!

A new year, new activities, and a familiar face, a freshman, joins the art club...
... and she's just as quick to strip as an older relative of hers! Also, there's a school-wide judo match, senpai finally works up the courage to ask a certain someone to go on a date with him, and the cherry on top - Nagatoro convinces senpai to give her a deep massage, straddling her waist, with her wearing a very form fitting swimsuit! Yes, I'm serious! It actually happens! Read it and see for yourself! Finally, things are starting to move forward between these two oddballs. It's a out time!

This wasn't a bad volume but the series in general is just getting very slow and generic when compared with other titles in the genre. It was nice to get the presidents cousin as a story device and the tormenting is less abrasive now. Things are just going so slow and it feels like they are just going through the motions right now.
