Love in the Realms of Time

Rate this book
Falling through the sky was only the beginning.

While traveling to Hong Kong for work, Aubrey never expected to tumble through a portal between worlds, let alone cradled in the arms of a celestial crown prince whose face is identical to the man she loves. But he is colder, untouchable—his heart bound to duty, his soul unwavering.

Yet every glance between them feels like a memory. Every touch sparks something she cannot name, something achingly familiar.

She thought her path was set. But love has a way of rewriting destiny. Torn between two worlds—the one she left behind and the one that defies all logic—Aubrey faces a devastating choice.

Go back to the life she knew... or remain in the realm of gods and ancient magic, and fight for a love that was never meant to be.

Two souls. Two realms. One love that refuses to die.

This book was amazing, every single time I thought I had an idea of how the story was going and what was going to happen so new twist would pop up to add to the story and their love and have me completely flabbergasted. It will have you on the edge of your seat screaming and rooting for the main characters to get their happy ending. I don’t know how more people aren’t talking about this!

WOW!!! What did I just read??? All the ⭐️’s in the world for this book. I am so privileged to have had Gia introduce me to this book herself. This book was something I never expected it to be but something I definitely needed. A hauntingly beautiful, amazing and special love story that blew my mind.
You think the story is going to go one way and then it twists and turns in so many different directions that keep you engaged and enthralled that you can’t put it down because you need to find out what happens next. An ending I never saw coming and now I’m sad that I have finished the book. I highly recommend for people who like fantasy based love story with a bit of spice, historical references and makes you go through every emotion imaginable. Thank you Gia for writing such an amazing book. ❤️❤️

What an intriguing and emotional read! I loved how story was told through multiple POVs. It brought to life each main character, and the romantic tension. The reader gets to follow Aubrey on a journey through time and love, and into magic, profound choices, and discovery. I was turning the pages to see what would happened next and how it would all end. Some of my favorite parts were when the feelings of love hit hard:

"I'm staying right here beside you. Never leaving... this time, I will never let you go."

I was so glad I discovered this time travel romance.

This book was not what I expected at all! Gia weaves one of the most unique story lines I have read in a very long time.

Things you can expect:

Time travel between realms
Love triangle
Spice (Fairly mild, minimal open door)
Fated mates
Forbidden Love
Fantasy/contemporary romance story lines

I finished this book last night and needed a night to decompress from the ending before writing a review. Due to the twists and turns it is hard to share much without any spoilers, but I’ll try.

The main female character, Aubrey, is on a trip to Hong Kong for her job as a travel journalist. A twist of fate has her running for her life and living in the apartment of a man she just met, who is bleeding and running from danger. She has an unexplainable pull to him, and gives in to his request for her to stay. Slowly, they grow close and build a relationship together.

When an unexpected fall hurtles Aubrey through a portal into a different realm, she is left reeling, with more questions than answers. Where is she? How did she get here? Will she ever get back to the man she was falling for? And most importantly, who is this gorgeous man who caught and saved her?

Stuck in a new realm, Aubrey is yet again forced to adapt to conditions beyond her control.

This book has numerous twists and turns, and will keep your emotions on a rollercoaster ride.

I had such a good time with this book. The world‑building, the fantasy romance, the action—everything just pulled me in. I loved the characters, especially Aubrey and Mark, and the writing flowed so well that I honestly didn’t want to put it down. Gia really knows how to spin a story that keeps you hooked.

That said, I did walk away with two lingering questions that the book didn’t fully clear up for me:

1. The “Bree” nickname confusion.
When Aubrey wakes up from her coma and Mark visits her, he tells her he’s never called her Bree. But at the beginning of the book, he literally says he likes the name Bree—and he calls her that right up until she travels to the other realm. So I wasn’t sure if this was meant to show that he forgot. It just didn’t fully line up for me.

2. Who Aubrey actually meets first—Mark or Jun Yang?
Aubrey falls from the sky into Jun Yang’s world, which feels like their first meeting. But if she had to meet Mark first in order to fall off the cliff and enter the other realm, then technically Mark should be her first encounter. But then Jun Yang tells her before he enters the warp tunnel to the other realm, “Remind me of our love story,” which makes it sound like she met him first in the grand timeline. It ends up feeling like a loop—she wouldn’t meet Jun Yang without falling off the cliff, but she wouldn’t fall without meeting Mark, but Jun Yang talks like he came before Mark. I was a bit tangled up in that part.

Aside from those two confusing pieces, I genuinely loved the book. The pacing, the romance, the fantasy elements—it all worked so well. Gia's storytelling is just so fun and immersive.

To begin, this novel is set in a genre with which I am not too familiar or have not read very often, but this review is my honest opinion on the story “Love in the Realms of Time” by Gia Chung.

This novel begins in the modern world, where a journalist seeks out hidden gems for her travel blog and falls in love with someone on her most recent foray across the globe, in Hong Kong, where she disappears into a fantasy world and meets a man who has the same face as her modern-day lover.

The main character POVs are set between three characters, and we see everything from the nitty-gritty streets of Hong Kong to the romantic, picturesque landscapes of ancient China, and a few locations that really evoke the reader’s imagination. I love first and foremost Gia’s ability to describe geography, from foreboding forests to resplendent palaces, to street markets; everything she describes is with a breathtaking vividness that I have come to enjoy.

The love story depicted throughout the book is equal parts joyous, emotionally gripping, and melancholic. The way it plays out reminds me of the love stories depicted in House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

There is a whole host of characters and interesting turns and twists in the book to keep the reader engaged and surprised, from beginning to end.

As I mentioned before, I do not really read books in this genre, but when I compare each area of Gia’s writing, I only have praises to sing.

I think this book is a well-crafted read, and that readers of romantasy will enjoy it!

Six countries and two continents later and I was just as breathless as the characters themselves.

I fell for this book almost suspiciously fast — honestly at the same speed they fell for each other — and I regret absolutely nothing. The pull between them is instant, intense, and carries this almost otherworldly kind of magic that makes you root for them from the very first pages.

Gia Chung really wastes no time dropping you straight into the story, and I loved that. There is no slow circling around what’s about to happen — you’re in it, running alongside them, trying to keep up while constantly thinking no way… what just happened? The pacing never once felt dragged out or stuck. Every chapter felt like opening another door you weren’t ready for but absolutely needed to walk through.

The world-building is stunning. It feels vivid and immersive without overwhelming you, like stepping into a place that feels unfamiliar but somehow still emotionally recognizable. The writing has this pull to it that makes it ridiculously hard to stop reading. I kept telling myself “just one more chapter” and clearly… that was a lie every single time.

The humor was charming, the spice was perfectly woven in, and together they made the emotional moments hit even harder.

And the ending?! I am emotionally done. Completely. I had to sit there for a moment and just process everything because wow… it lands, and it lands hard.

Highly, highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars.

WOW! This book was everything I didn’t know I needed and more. Love in the Realms of Time absolutely blew me away from the very first chapter. It’s engaging, emotional, mystical, beautifully written, and completely captivating. It's the kind of story that keeps you up way past midnight because you just have to know what happens next!

I went in expecting a romantic fantasy and got so much more. This story has time travel, celestial realms, fate, heartbreak, aching, longing, and the kind of love that hurts in the best way. I was completely invested in Aubrey’s journey, and every twist hit harder than the last, keeping me enthralled from start to finish.

Gia Chung’s writing is gorgeous, her characters are relatable and deeply human, and the world she’s created feels both vast and intimate, brimming with emotion and wonder.

If you love stories that seamlessly blend romance, mythical realms, destiny, emotion, spice, action, and characters you’ll come to care deeply about, this one’s going to live rent-free in your head for a long time. Highly, highly recommend!

The Story That Took Over My Weekend

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love in the Realms of Time is an immersive fantasy romance that values emotional depth over excess. It is not over the top with smut, which allows the relationships and story to feel sincere and well earned.

I became particularly invested in the supporting characters, especially Si Ming, Xiao Lan, Mo Xuan the King of the Underworld, and JY. They add real weight to the story and help the world feel alive rather than decorative. Chapter 20 is where the story truly takes off, and from that point on it is hard to put down.

The tone and emotional restraint strongly reminded me of watching C-dramas set in Hong Kong and China. There is a familiar sense of longing, duty, and destiny that pulls you in quietly but firmly.

I read the 600 plus pages in just three days, which says everything about how engaging it is. Thoughtful, immersive, and emotionally driven, this is a book I would recommend wholeheartedly.

A Wild, Fantastical, Romantic Journey!

Love in the Realms of Time is a magical, wild ride about fated love and soulmates. This fantastical, romantic journey had me on the edge of my seat. It’s an incredible, passionate love story that transcends time and otherworldly dimensions. The ride only gets wilder as the story progresses and pulls you in so you can’t stop reading. I loved the characters and how realistically they were written. The entire story is beautifully written, immersive and captivating. The combination of magic, romance and time travel, along with the descriptive details of Chinese culture and world building, made this a highly enjoyable read. The twist ending left me breathless and my heart pounding. I only hope another book follows, continuing this fascinating story. Five stars well deserved!

One of those rare stories that lingers long after you've finished the last page! Gia masterfully weaves romance with the complexities of time and creates a narrative that feels both intimate and epic. The way the characters navigate love across shifting timelines is not only creative but deeply emotional - you genuinely feel the weight of every choice they make.

The relationship between the two main characters is raw and beautifully written - full of tension, sacrifice and moments that feel incredibly real despite the fantastical setting. Just when you think all is good, something will happen and throw you off in the best possible way.

It's the kind of book that makes you think about fate, timing, and how love can endure even the most impossible circumstances. An absolute must read!

This is a deeply moving story about a woman’s unconditional love for a time traveling celestial being and their journey together.

Aubrey has a meet-cute with Jung Yang that changes her life forever. Between coffee dates and long walks through a magical forest, she falls for the heir of the celestial realm and does everything in her power to protect him. Her journey is not a kind one, and the things she goes through for a dang boyfriend is truly heartbreaking.

They journey through the underworld and back with increasingly volatile obstacles blocking every path they take to a normal life together. This story is so vivid and feels rich with culture. I liked how wholesome their love is, even with all the spice!

Time travel, celestial politics, and fated love!

This emotional story follows Aubrey, a modern woman unexpectedly thrust into a realm of deities, where she (literally) falls into the arms of a crown prince who looks exactly like the man she left behind. What unfolds is a heart-touching tale of longing, duty and desire, finding of oneself, and the role of destiny.

Personally, I loved the setting in this story. It was filled with nostalgia, reminding me of my childhood—watching Chinese drama movies with my friends and parents, and taking trips to Hong Kong, with all its sights, sounds, and incredible food. It felt like a trip down memory lane.

I can’t wait to read the next book!

First of all, I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I did. I mean, it's beautiful.
But you know what- it fits the story perfectly. This story is beautiful, not just in its plot but in the writing.
This is a complicated storyline that weaves time travel, romance, mythology, fantasy, and perfect character development in a seamless way. This is not an easy feat to put so much into a book so deftly without overwhelming the reader. I was not overwhelmed- but swept away.
If you want to get lost in a story, be taken on a truly unforgettable journey, with lively, multidimensional characters, this is your perfect book!
I cannot wait to read more from this author!

Love in the Realms of Time grabs at your heart strings from the very beginning. I was quickly invested in the story of Mark, Jun Yang and Aubrey as they fight for their fated love. It is an epic love story, full of adventure, danger, and traveling between realms. Through it all, hope remains that they will find a way to share a life together.

I loved the characters, their story and the writing style. The dual narrative allows for a complete picture from each MC. The MFC could get me riled up when she wouldn't follow instructions, she certainly kept me on my toes! Highly recommend Love in the Realms of Time!

If you’re looking for a swoonworthy romance that transcends realms, Love in the Realms of Time should be your next read. Well rounded, with easy dialogue and beautiful tension between the MCs, it sets itself against a rich backdrop, where modern day Hong Kong and a lush celestial realm are expertly brought to life. I loved the details woven in of culture, dress and traditions, while being carried along with a love story for the ages. With some delicious spice mixed in, I was hooked from the mention of Mark in a black button-down with the sleeves rolled up. Please and thank you.

Love in the Realms of Time is a gorgeous read. It’s one of those books where you think, “I’ll just sneak in one more chapter before bed,” and the next thing you know it’s 2am and you’re still glued to the pages. This story has everything — love, adventure, and heartbreakingly real characters.

There’s plenty to swoon over, and if you love romance with brains, heart, and a dash of magic, this one absolutely deserves a place on your shelf.

Love in the Realms of Time is a heartfelt romantic fantasy about a deity and a mortal whose love defies realms. Their journey takes readers through forbidden love and sacrifice, blending suspense and emotion with mythological worldbuilding. The timelines connect seamlessly, and the author captures both the grandeur of fate and the intimacy of love. Perfect for fans of Outlander and Chinese-inspired romances, this is a heartfelt read that lingers after the final page.

There’s so much I can say, not much is good. She dies at the end of it and I know I’m supposed to be bawling my eyes out, but all I felt were some tear prickles… I also skipped all the sex scenes basically because I just didn’t care. In theory this should have been an amazing book. So much happened so fast that I just stopped caring. It kinda became half pleasure reading, half hate reading. There was more potential than there was success.

Time-warped romantic adventure

Love crossing realms of fast-paced Hong Kong and breathtaking landscapes of ancient China. I enjoyed the different perspectives, twists, and surprises. Mildly spicy but very exciting. The culture was beautifully woven in to the storyline and made my heart ache to see and experience it in-person.

I really wanted to like this book but the story was just too many threads tangled together like cats in a basket of yarn, and the repeat chapters first from his pov then told again from hers and vice versa, and the very sad ending.... was too much.

If you like your romance with a clear story and a happy ending, then give this one a hard pass.

This book will take you on the ride of your life!

The ending to this was phenomenal (unexpected) and the action throughout was what made this book so attractive and unique to a lot of other books out there. Love in the Realms of Time was like a movie playing out in my head while reading. 5-stars all around and I cannot wait to read all her other books!

Wow, not really sure where to begin. Love in the realms of time was a story with lots going on. Time travel, realms, love, action, and betrayal. I know nothing of the culture in this book, but the way the author weaved her story, makes me want to learn more. The ending was a bit of a heart stopper and not one I would have chosen, but overall I really enjoyed it.
I loved this quote - “Love isn’t always fair. It isn’t always just. Sometimes it’s simply choosing the pieces you can live with.”

From the first minute to the last, this book grabbed my heart and shook it about until it was left in tatters. Good tatters, but tatters nonetheless.

The female protagonist, Aubrey, is likable from the get go. She’s sweet, kind and gentle, but also tough and courageous.

The male protagonists, yes, there’s two, not one, are both the epitome of masculinity. Strong, virile, kind, protective. Which of course makes it impossible to choose between the two. I fell for them both equally, and so did Aubrey.

And then of course there’s the time travel element that propels you from modern day Hong Kong to the Heavenly Realm filled with deities and magic.

One thing about this book that I really loved is that it doesn’t get slow or dull for even a minute. The scenery is so poignant and it makes you feel as if you’re right there in the book experiencing everything first hand. The sights, the smells, the tastes. Everything.

The action is continuous. The love story, despite it being a love triangle, is beautiful. The highs and lows hit you in the gut and shake you about.

And the ending… oh the ending.

All I’m going to say is that I cried. Big ugly tears. It was so emotional, but also so beautiful.

This is the first book I’ve read by Gia Chung, but I can promise you it’s far, far from the last.

Love in the Realms of Time is 100% pure magic. I loved every minute of it and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book.

Five stars, no questions asked.

Breathtaking romAntic fantasy read...

This read swept me off my feet and refused to let me go. From the very first chapter, weaving a world that blended otherworldly magic emotionally deep and touched on love, destiny and self-discovery. The sparks that were between the characters felt eerily familiar and stirred emotions that I wasn't expecting to sit and think about. If you love classic tropes of love across worlds with fresh emotional depth than this read is for you.
