I've been a ESL teacher for 7 years now and this book truly made a difference for my classes. Most of the games can be applied to most topics I teach (which are the "typical" topics we ESL school teachers teach in any not English speaking country), and even those games that looked to me like a bit "silly" are tremendously useful, sometimes more useful than others which look more "elaborated".
Each game is "classified" according to the size of the group recommended to play the game and also depending on its pace. That's helpful for me because I choose on type of game or another taking into account the time of the day when we are playing it and the amount of students participating in the class (sometimes I teach the whole group and other times I teach only half of the group).
While playing these games I've realized that, at least at the ages I teach (3 to 9 years old), no matter if the game doesn't initially look like a game that has to do with foreign language teaching as soon as it is fun and language is involved in some measure. With those two conditions (which are present in all the games explained in this book) my students get so thrilled to play them that, in a very natural way, they learn whatever contents which are included in the game.
So, to every ESL teacher who wants their students to effectiveky integrate the foreign language while having fun, I'd highly recommend the resources that you can find in this book and, as far as I know, only in this book.

In short, this book is like gold. Straight to the point, no-nonsense activities and games will enhance your lessons no end with your younger kids. They require very little preparation and many can be done on the spur of the moment, which is a blessing. Having tried and tested many of the games with my kids, I can say that they will inject a spark of life if the lesson is lacking, or simply enhance a class which is already going well. If you're reading this, then you're probably a teacher and you probably already know that you can't have kids sitting round in chairs endlessly doing grammar and vocabulary exercises on paper. This book will add to that mental bank of games and activities that you can integrate into your lesson planning or pull out of the hat when needed. The kids will learn more, become more cooperative and look forward to your lessons - not to mention that it makes your life easier.

Includes a great introduction with practical tips, and a very useful 6 step catergorising of the games from the initial listening stages of language learning right through to writing at the end, which is something I'd never come across in other publications and is a vital element to the effective teaching of preschool and younger primary age kids.

All in all, good stuff.

Fantastic resource for any educator teaching ELL students or a foreign/heritage language. The games are organized in alphabetical order and are also indexed by language acquisition Steps, and thematically for a quick overview and easy access. If you're looking for engaging activities to add to your teaching repertoire, I highly recommend this resource. Many of the games are easily adaptable to any content you are teaching with new vocabulary. This is a good-for-one-beneficial-for-all kind of book!

Excellent ideas for teaching kids, I used it a lot when teaching English to young French children, and there is such variety that they never got bored and really learnt a lot without realising.
