I think this is one of the better Barbie books (we've read most of what the public library has). This one is a nice no-plot social instruction for the preschool girl on the norms and possibly activities surrounding a sleepover party, which is the sort of critical life information they crave. My 4 year old is always talking about wanting to have a sleepover with her best friend, which we haven't done yet. She was really interested in the pillow fight section, as she's in a bit of a roughhousing stage.
The glow in the dark pages also charmed her a lot - we charged the pages by setting them under a lamp for a bit, then shut ourselves in the bathroom and oohed and ahhed over the magic. It's the simple things.
🙄 I wish my 3-year-old wasn’t drawn to this type of over the top, chock full of stereotypes book but, y’know. I just have to counteract this nonsense with lots and lots and lots of books with empowering role models.
Barbie and her sisters have a “slumber party” and some silly & fun play. This book has several pages of glow in the dark illustrations, thrilling my preschooler who always enjoys the Barbie series of books due to Barbie, her sisters and the colorful illustrations and accessories.
