wow!
This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions. I didn’t know whether to laugh to cry while reading this story. I had to hang on for dear life because it was crazy. If you like wild rides, I highly recommend this book.

I had the great pleasure of doing some beta reading for this author. This does not reflect on my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.
This is a harrowing tale that stays with you! From the first page, St. James creates such a vivid and stark tale that has you on the edge of your seat. Not only are the descriptions of Sweden rich and detailed, but his character work absolutely shines in Maja's thoughts and actions. The slow unravelling of the investigation and the horrors beneath a series of intentionally grisly murders and the cat and mouse games the killer plays with Maja and her partner are reminiscent of the classic Silence of the Lambs and the series' accompanying TV show adaptation, Hannibal. Certainly not for the faint of heart, this novel takes the reader through the darkest depths of an educated killer's mind and the twisted academic reasoning behind his murderous actions.
I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers and the noir/detective genre!
