A fake engagement, a threat in the shadows, and an obsessive suitor. This wasn’t what I signed up for….
It’s been a few short weeks since Gwyndolin was liberated from Lord Valen’s estate, and the Unseelie high king who freed her now owns her. Unless she can pull off this fake engagement and live with him for a year, he will let his people continue their assaults on hers.
Talk about sacrifice.
But this morally gray, violence-prone king won’t let her fall, not when he’s already fallen for her.
Enemies lurk in the shadows, and unseen villains threaten everything they’ve worked toward. Both love and betrayal come from the most unlikely places in this heart-stopping, enemies-to-lovers fae romantasy. Will love be enough to save them, or will it be their doom?
It is recommended (but not required) to read Of Fae and Wicked Kings before this. There will be spoilers for Of Fae and Wicked Kings if you read this first.
I was so thrilled to return to Gwen and Aspen’s story. This book was such a treat! Aspen completely captivated me from book one; he’s the perfect mix of dark, funny, and sweet. Gwen is an FMC I truly admire authentic, strong, and open to growth without losing her edge. Their enemies-to-lovers chemistry was addictive, and I’m so excited Aethryn’s getting his own story next!Huge thanks to Jada for the ARC! I can’t wait for the next book!
We all love when he falls first in fantasy books—let’s be real. And when there’s competition for her affection at the same time? That just makes it even more adorable.
Jada McCrary delivers everything I love in a fantasy romance: intense chemistry, layered betrayals, protective characters, and just the right amount of action to keep me hooked from start to finish. The multiple POVs really stood out to me—each one added depth and tension, making the emotional moments hit even harder.
The flirting? Perfection. The betrayals? Gutting. The protectiveness? Swoon-worthy. It all blended together into a brilliant, fast-paced read that I couldn’t put down.
If you’re a sucker for a fierce heroine caught between powerful hearts and dangerous choices, this one’s for you.
Of Thrones and Savage Things delivers a captivating blend of fantasy, romantic tension, and political intrigue. I enjoyed following the journey of a human female who unexpectedly enthralls three powerful fae males, setting off a chain of events that ripple through a kingdom teeming with magic, monsters, and courtly power plays. While the pacing occasionally felt slow, each lull was quickly followed by moments that drew me right back in. The deeper the story went, the more layered and intriguing it became. A compelling start to what promises to be an enchanting and dangerous fae series.
I was so excited to get back to the world with Gwyn and Aspen! The first book, Of Fae and Wicked Kings, was a short but enticing novella that really had me interested in where this series was going! I’m happy to say that Jada did NOT disappoint with book 2!
I loved not only the love story of Aspen and Gwyn but also getting more into the action of just what made Aspen worthy of a kingdom!
In this story, you’ll get:
Multiple POVs Enemies to lovers Magic and subterfuge Closed door romance Love triangle/pentagon 😆
While Aspen and Gwyn’s story has concluded (beautifully I might add!), I look forward to Aethryn’s book!
“You are the sun, thawing the cold that has ruled me for so long. And your warmth has the potential to destroy me as easily as the touch of spring threatens the chill of winter. How can I help you understand that there is no me without you? You are my light, and I will spend an eternity in darkness without you by my side.”
getting back to Aspen and Gwyn's story. A grumpy fae king and a human have to unit.
Jada does an amazing job at world building and creating characters.
This book gets a solid 4 stars from me. This story kept me engaged and I enjoyed the story line. The only “adult” scenes that are on the pages are kissing and a placement of hand on small of the back or hip. If you need spicy spice, this is not the book for you. If you’re looking for a love twist and push/pull, this might be the book for you. The MMC keeps saying he’s not a good guy. The amount of times he says that is a little much for me but I get the author keeps wanting the MFC to know this but that he would burn the world for her. Then there is a twin brother and a curse!!! And the evil from the first book comes into play (need to read the first book IMO). The first half of this book is fantastic! Kept me engaged and wanting more. The next part was good but could have been better. Example is the scene where the necklace gets “broken”, that could have been done with more information to make it pull you in. Also the issues between the twins, the author could have gone into more depth with their story to pull more connection with this area. And there is a conflict in information. In the first book, the MFC says she has never been kissed but then in the second book, there is a scene/area where she had kissed someone prior. Not huge issues but makes you question some of the information and if you missed something. Also there are past connections with the MFC that could have been expanded in to show more of a connection. I think if this would have been done, it would have created more emotions with a certain scene later on in the book. Overall it was a good fae read with some adventure but could have had some things added to make it a 5 star (just more details and more character building with a new character). I can’t wait to read the next book to see the story for the twin. Also one other thing, when it comes to the romance, there could have been some more added to draw you into the love story. Overall, I would recommend this book. I’m thankful I was selected to obtain this book for my honest review. No other compensation was given. I can’t wait for the next book
Love, love, love everything about Of Thrones and Savage Things!!♥️
Aspen: ✨️*He is a morally grey Unseely High King, with a sharp tongue and wit to match. ♥️*He is the epitome of "touch her and die". ✨️*Almost everyone fears him, but he has a soft spot only for one Human woman. ♥️*He believes they were fated to rule the kingdom together. ✨️*He calls her "Pet" and "Love" ♥️*He wields ice magic
Gwyn: ✨️*She believes she can withstand his charming advances. ♥️*She is brave, strong-willed, and stubborn. ✨️*She has to spend one year in his kingdom as his betrothed. ♥️*She is also cunning, smart, and an opportunist. ✨️*She hates when he calls her "Pet" or does she?
Jada's world-building is consistently top-tier. I still see each world she created in my mind when I think of her books.✨️
The characters are well-rounded and they grow so much throughout this book. There are characters that you will love forever and some that you will hate forever, balance.🤭 I have never read a Jada McCrary book where I didn't feel every emotion at least once during the book. Love♥️, hate🤬, anxiety🫣, sadness😭, and so much laughter😂.
My advice: Read this book! You won't be disappointed!💯
My favorite quotes:
♡With three of my best guards, she was in good hands-but they weren’t my hands. - Aspen♡🥺♥️
♡She rolls over, and I tug her toward me, her back to my front. Stars, where do I put my hands? What is she comfortable with? After a moment of panic, when I still haven’t made any moves to hold her, she asks, “Aspen?” “Pet?” I reply, my voice rough. “You’re not holding me.”♡🤭🥰
♡“Why can’t it be that easy? Let me be your shelter, Gwyn. Let me show you what we could be together, how happy I could make you. I would give you the world if you asked it of me.” - Aspen♡🥰
♡“I’d rip my heart from my chest if you would just give me a chance to prove we belong together.” - Aspen♡🥺😍
•She needs to recognize that it’s possible the people fear her. Fear, she can use if she plays her cards right. - Aethryn•🥺
•“Yeah, you really protected me from that door. I feel very safe.” I fight back a chuckle but fail, the laughter bubbling out of me. - Gwyn•😂
♡Pulling her hand to my chest, I place it over my heart. “This beats for you. Do you know what that means?” “What?” she breathes. “It means you have the power to heal it or destroy it. ♡🥺😍
I absolutely loved diving back into Gwen and Aspen’s story! This sequel was such a treat — full of emotion, tension, and that perfect enemies-to-lovers chemistry. Aspen completely stole my heart again with his mix of dark humor and sweetness, and Gwen continues to shine as a strong, authentic heroine who grows without ever losing her edge.
Their connection felt real and addictive, and I can’t wait to see what happens next — especially with Aethryn getting his own book! Huge thanks to for the ARC — this series just keeps getting better! 😍😍😍
Jumping into Of Thrones and Savage Things without having read the first book in the Wicked Fae series might seem daunting, but Jada McCrary’s storytelling quickly makes you feel at home in this rich, dangerous world. I was pleasantly surprised by how accessible and captivating this second installment is—even without the background of Book 1.
The story plunges you headfirst into a realm where fae politics, brutal power struggles, and deadly magic intertwine. The stakes feel enormous, and the tension between kingdoms and characters crackles with energy. What really stood out is how the book manages to balance high-stakes action with intimate moments of character growth and emotional vulnerability.
The heroine, though thrown into the chaos of courts and betrayals, is a fierce and relatable figure. Her journey feels authentic—she grapples with trust, survival, and the immense weight of her choices. McCrary writes her with a perfect mix of strength and humanity, making her someone you want to root for at every twist and turn.
Romance is woven skillfully throughout the plot. It’s intense and passionate but never overshadows the story’s deeper conflicts. The dynamic between the main characters is charged with complexity, and their evolving relationship adds an emotional layer that enriches the narrative.
Worldbuilding is another strong suit here. The fae realm McCrary creates feels alive and dangerous—full of shadowed forests, ancient magic, and shifting alliances. The lore and cultural details drip into the story naturally, allowing you to absorb the world’s textures without feeling overwhelmed.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this book is how it stands on its own. While a few references hint at events and relationships from Book 1, the novel provides enough context and character depth to make the story coherent and emotionally satisfying for new readers like me.
In fact, finishing Of Thrones and Savage Things left me eager to dive back into the beginning of the series to catch up on everything I missed. It’s a testament to McCrary’s skill that this book not only holds its own but also sparks curiosity for the story’s wider scope.
If you love dark fantasy filled with political intrigue, magic, passionate romance, and complex characters who are both flawed and compelling, this is a must-read. McCrary delivers a thrilling, emotional journey that will keep you turning pages late into the night.
I absolutely loved this continuation of Gwyn and Aspen's story!
We saw Aspen's true feelings and him falling hard for Gwyn during Of Fae and Wicked Kings, and we saw the beginnings of Gwyn possibly not being totally against liking Aspen. Aspen truly shows the definition of "touch her and suffer or perish or both." His people are not fully on board with having a human queen to their Unseelie Fae king, but Aspen has no problem showing that his choice is right.
A wrinkle in this story? Aspen has a twin brother, Aethryn, whom Gwyn definitely gets along with more quickly compared to Aspen. And of course he falls for Gwyn as well, even though he knows that his brother Aspen would have his head if he actually tried anything with Gwyn.
I loved the softer moments between Aspen and Gwyn, really showing both of them truly falling for the other. While they both have fiery personalities, they show they really understand each other in the quiet moments. And Aspen! So many swoon-worthy lines in this story!
And we can't forget the other men from Gwyn's past, Rowan and Vesper. I truly thought Rowan was delusional with his plans to try to get Gwyn back after betraying her so fully in OFAWK. And I was iffy about Vesper, who finally redeemed himself right before his end. Luckily Rowan met his karmic end as well.
We get our lovely ending between Aspen and Gwyn, and even Aethryn gets a good ending to this story despite his actions. I can't wait to see where we go from here in book 3!
If you love a dark fantasy romance story with a fake engagement, twisted villains, twistier plot, enemies to lovers, obsessive, and a morally grey MMC, check out Of Thrones and Savage Things!
I received an advanced review copy from the author after beta reading. This review contains my honest opinion and is being left voluntarily.

This is book two of the Wicked Fae series so I have been very excited to read it and it did not disappoint. I love Aspen and how he's so unapologetically himself, never claiming to be anyone he's not and telling Gwyn how much he cares for her right off the bat. And Gwyn is a great FMC, she owns the fact that she is weak as a human in a world of Fae and I find it really refreshing to see an FMC who accepts that fact and the protection the MMC can provide with little argument even though she's clear about not wanting to be there with him. I'm so glad they got their happy ending through all the betrayals and grief they had both been through and that once they properly came together, they didn't waver in their affections of each other. And I do really like Aethryn as a character (even if he was a bit of a dick) and I really look forward to reading his story. Just wish we got to see more of Vesper, he was turning into a character I was starting to really like, but I guess we have to have a little heartbreak sometimes.

Oh, how happy I was to get back to Gwen and Aspen. I thoroughly enjoyed this gem! From the moment I first read about Aspen in book 1, he was able to capture my full attention. He is just such a great mix of dark, cruel, funny, sweet and delicious bookboyfriend material. Gwen is an FMC that I actually truly like, she stayes true to herself but opens up to new possibilities as well. What I love most is that she doesn't lose her edge without becoming either a whiny snob of a heartless brat. The chemistry between these too enemies to lovers is so fun to read. I was truly sad every time I needed to pause my reading to tend to my kids 🤭. And Aethryn, so happy he will get his own lovestory, can't wait for that!
To end I would like to thank Jada for a lovely time spend reading this book and for providing me with this ARC! I'm excitedly looking forward to read the next book.
I really enjoyed this second installment of the Wicked Fae series. McCrary delivers a compelling blend of romance, tension, and political intrigue that kept me engaged from start to finish. The fake engagement between Gwyn and Aspen is well executed, with strong chemistry and a satisfying slow burn. Aspen’s morally gray, fiercely protective nature adds a lot of appeal, and their dynamic is one of the highlights of the book. The balance between court politics, looming danger, and intimate character moments works well, and the fae world continues to feel immersive and thoughtfully developed. While a few sections felt slightly long, the story remained engaging overall.
If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers, fake engagement tropes, and protective MMCs, this book is a solid pick and leaves you eager for the next installment.
I was dying to read this book and let me tell you...
THE PLOT TWISTS!!! I was getting whiplash in the absolute best way possible. The banter and the yearning absolutely loved it!
Aspen **sigh** that man is down bad and I honestly loved it so much.
Gwyn is such a mood and I loved her so much.
When Gwyn finally accepts she's in it for the long haul and Aspen, who is normally super confident freaks out a little, it was heart warming. I love when a confident man becomes a little awkward when it comes to the woman he loves and McCrary does it SO WELL!
The cuddle scene has me giggling and being like "Oh Aspen, you blubbering fool" 😂😂
The end of the book was wrapped up well but while also leaving room for more of the series and I can't wait to find out more!
Ahh I finished in basically less than a day cuz I started this at almost midnight on the 7th needless to say I loved it and it was worth the wait after of fae&wicked kings but then again I knew it would be and it did not disappoint! We got Gwyn and Aspen back and ugh if he is not the most yummy unseelie king with multiple touch her and die or lose a hand, lose your heart from your chest: so many ways to lose a limb when you touch his girl. Even of own twin was not spared a black eye also never saw that coming a twin but I am so excited he is getting a story!! This was amazing and I loved it so much Jada just has a way with words and stories. And I am excited to see where the journey takes us next, everyone this is out now so go download and read this book!
I am absolutely smitten! 😍 This book had me completely enthralled from start to finish. McCrary has crafted a perfect blend of tension, romance, and intrigue in this second installment of the Wicked Fae series.
The fake engagement trope between Gwyn and Aspen is masterfully executed. 💫 Their dynamic is electric—watching them navigate their complicated arrangement while fighting their growing feelings for each other was absolutely captivating. The "touch her and die" energy from our morally gray MMC had me swooning throughout the entire book! 🥵
What I particularly loved was how the author balanced the political intrigue and danger with these intensely intimate moments. ⚔️ The threats lurking in the shadows create this perfect tension that keeps you turning pages, while the romance satisfies that need for emotional connection.
The world-building continues to impress me in this series. McCrary's fae realm feels both magical and dangerous, with court politics and cultural dynamics that feel authentic and well-developed. I was completely immersed in this world. 🧚♀️
If you're a fan of enemies-to-lovers, fake engagement scenarios with a protective MMC who falls first and harder, this book is absolutely for you. 💘 The plot keeps you guessing, and the ending left me desperately wanting more from this series!
Cannot recommend this enough for romantasy lovers. 📚✨ October 7th can't come soon enough for everyone else to get their hands on this gem! 💎
"Disclaimer: "I received a free copy of this book and am leaving my review voluntarily."
I love that Gwen is mentally strong as a human and lives in a fae realm. She has snark and fire that entrances the powerful fae males around her but only one fae truly matters. Aspen’s love for her is unmatched by an other. The banter is so entertaining I caught myself smiling while reading. I’m like 85% in and thinking there is no way Jada is going to be able to wrap this up without feeling rushed. But wrap it up she did. She could have tied a bow on it how pretty it all tied together. Such a fun and enchanting closed door romance. The heat between them is so easy to visualize I didn’t miss having the door open.

I was so excited to see Gwyn and Aspen's story and it absolutely delivered! Aspen and Gwyn's fake engagement hardly felt like that right from the beginning. He is every bit protective and doesn't want any guy touching her or looking at her. Then she meets his brother, Aethryn, who she gets along with right away and feels a pull to him. She actually starts really feeling like royalty and that she is finally seen. I really found the politics, world building, complex characters, and the betrayals very intriguing. Everything really amps up when Vesper and Rowan come in the picture. I really can't wait to see Aethryn's story next.

i got to ARC read this book! This book was a great conclusion to Adoen and Gwyn's story. It was short sweet, and fierce. Everything that symbolized their love. The character development and characters, emotions, build, all of it was exactly what I wanted to get out of the genre. My only gripe would be that it wasn't long enough so the pacing seemed a bit rushed, not in a bad way, but in a way that made me stuck between wanting more and being utterly satisfied that my babies finally got a good ending 😂. I can't wait for the other characters to get their arcs, though!
I was surprised at how long it took the FMC to realize how much the Unseelie King adores her. Denying her own feelings for him left her frustrated. I thought the introduction of a twin brother to the king made for an interesting love triangle. In the end the curse was lifted and there is an HEA. Obviously there is so much more that happened throughout the book. You’ll just have to read it to find out. Oh, I can’t wait to see who will be the love interest for the twin brother in the next book.

This book (and the previous book in the series) are the first books I have read by this author. The story was over a little too quickly for me. I feel there needed to be more to the story of Aspen's character growth, and more conflict (and banter) as he and Gwyn figure things out. However, their chemistry was very good! Aethryn's character....was definitely playing with fire! (Pun intended! 😉) Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to the next book in the series!
3.5 ⭐️ Thank you to everyone who made it possible for me to be an ARC reader for this book! I was an ARC reader for Of Fae and Wicked Kings, and I was so excited to see this story continue! While overall I did enjoy this book, there were certain sections where the story felt rushed which did take me out of the story in certain parts. However, I did thoroughly enjoy this book and getting to spend more time with these characters! I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!
Loved reading this. Though as times I felt like some things were either rushed or glossed over, it was still a book I found myself turning page by page to see what happened next. Of course I knew I was going to love Aspen’s character from the novella and he certainly delivered in this book. If you like fantasy Fae realm stories then you definitely need to read this book. I’m excited for the next one and already have it marked in my calendar.
I really enjoyed this book! We pick up right where book 1 left off, with Aspen trying to win Gwyn over. In this book we get more back story and character development, but Gwyn is still just a feisty human. It's so refreshing to have a FMC who isn't some missing super-goddess! But honestly I think Cenlith (a minor side character) is my favorite, he's hilarious haha. I can't wait for the third book!!
i had the opportunity to get a free copy for arc reading, thank you so much and I'm so sorry for my late review..
tropes: *enemies to lovers *love triangle *fake engagement * he falls first *touch her and die
this book was amazing!! i can't wait till the second one comes out! it had me in a ban from begin to end. I couldn't stop reading! i loved the love between Aspen and Gwendolyn! if you haven't read it yet what are you doing?? go grab your copy!!
I've been reading a lot of long books lately, so this was a nice breather it was fun but there are times I wanted to scream and strangle Gwen because of her blind faith and trust in others just leads to stupid decisions and that was incredibly annoying. But in the end I'm glad she and Aspen got their hea.
First, thank you Jada for allowing me to arc read this book. I read the first one and absolutely fell in love with Gwen and this one just solidified it. It has all the fantasy I wanted and needed!
❤️ fake engagement ❤️ Obsessive/Morally gray MMC ❤️ Twisted Villain ❤️ Enemies to lovers ❤️ Dark Fantasy Romance
She is infuriating but i will forgive the author because of Aspen. There is betrayal, banter, hot guys behind our mfc but the villain is the one. Happy ever after, it will continue for other secondary characters and I am looking forward to it and excited.

I didn’t have the chance to read the first book but this one was absolutely amazing 🤩 I loved every minute of it the plot was amazing and the world building was incredible the characters were so amazing I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for future books the book had me hooked from the beginning it was sooo good
