Mostly Nice Monsters:

Rate this book
Monsters walk among us. And many of them are surprisingly … nice. Sure, there are a few nasty ones, but you’re bound to find a bad apple in every bunch.

If you lean towards the softer side of the supernatural – but still crave a side of traditional terror – this genre-blending collection introduces you to vampires who need bail money, ghosts who give pep talks in bar bathrooms, and half-demon musicians who play with “soul.”

In Mostly Nice Monsters, each short story can be enjoyed as a standalone adventure. However, if you read the collection in its entirety, you’ll see a larger world of creatures connected by friendship, grief, found family, and the chaos of being not-quite-human in a human world.

Inside, you’ll meet…“Mrs. Doogan,” a quiet neighborhood’s mean old lady who’s much older and meaner than you think.A feisty philanthropist who must track down her stolen pooch before the full moon rises, joined by a skeptical detective and a rather unorthodox priest in “Daddy.”An ancient “Djinn of the Computer,” who recounts his cruel imprisonment and how humanity’s digital dependence may pave his path to freedom.Joe, a neurotic young man rebounding from a bad breakup, who hasn’t seen “The Last of Her” – if a supernaturally-charged smartphone has anything to say about it.And many more.
If you're an adult who grew up reading Goosebumps and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, or cut your teeth on classic episodes of Twilight Zone and Tales From the Darkside, these 17 stories will satisfy your nostalgic yearnings, alternately giving you the creeps and a case of the warm n' fuzzies.

So, step inside the Mostly Nice Monsters-verse, where new friends and old fiends await.

This was my first foray into cozy horror and it was exactly what I needed when the weather started getting chilly. All of the monsters were incredibly interesting and Lana made it seem like I could easily bump into one of them in Philly. I seriously enjoyed this book.

A rich, imaginative world where the supernatural feels surprisingly human, and every shadow holds both menace and tenderness. Cooper’s monsters are as complex as the people they haunt, and I particularly enjoyed character arcs layered with grief, longing, and the messy beauty of connection. Absolutely worth a read if you’re looking for nuanced supernatural stories that balance the eerie with the empathetic.
