The evil puppet SCARFACE and his wiseguys just pulled off one of the biggest heists in GOTHAM history. Unfortunately, there's a rat among the thieves, and the loose lips are helping BATMAN crack the case. Is the VENTRILOQUIST betraying his wooden creation to the DARK KNIGHT?
Donald Lemke works as a children's book editor. He has written dozens of all-age comics and children's books for Capstone, HarperCollins, Running Press, and more. Donald lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his beautiful wife, Amy, toddling toddler, Cleo, and a not-so-golden retriever named Paulie.
Quite nice glossy illustrations and exciting prose including occasional colour onomatopoeias don't really make up for a pedestrian story that is very straightforward with no surprises. Perhaps if I was a little kid who didn't know that Wesker was the schizophrenic who bullies himself with Scarface the puppet, maybe that would come as some sort of surprise, but anyone who has read much Batman before will find it all rather humdrum. The illustrations show Rosalie as a puppet while the text describes her as a valuable antique marionette too, which she visibly isn't. 3/5
Even though it written for young readers I think it was really lame. Even when I was a young reader I wouldn't have read it. Of course I have a very high IQ
Love the DC Super Heroes series and love this title from Donald Lemke. Lots of action. Perfect for drawing in reluctant readers. Scarface can be a difficult villain to pull-off. Lemke manages to make him credible and creepy. Loads of fun. Also dig the layout from text to pictures to bold SFX fonts! BAM!
