Friends #2

Three Days

Rate this book
Three days …
That’s how long I was married to Charlie. Her death on our third day of marriage still haunts me, the part I played in her asthma attack will be with me forever. I loved her, but just couldn’t let go of the past.

Three days …
How long I held Rowan captive, trying to convince her that she needed to be with me. I never stood a chance. She’d turned her back on me once I chose Charlie and moved on with someone else. In my grief and stupidity, I lost any chance of her friendship.

Three days …
I’ve done prison time, and now I need to start again. I’m not looking for any relationship right now, the thought of love is simply too painful. And yet, it’s been three days since I met Maddy, and already she’s brought more laughter to my life than I have had in so very long. She’s been through a lot too, so now I wonder if we can make a fresh start together.

Authors Note: There is a scene that might be upsetting for those who have triggers around domestic violence. This is not a theme of the book, it’s a small scene, but as I realise some people may have sensitivities around this, I wanted to make sure there was a warning.

I read this book as a standalone. I was 80% through when I looked up the author on Goodreads and realized this is a follow up to her first novel, Loving Rowan. Makes so much sense now. It can be read as a standalone but the first novel would absolutely put the puzzle pieces together. This book was written entirely in the male POV which is typically unusual and I liked that a lot.

Andrew Carmichael has just finished a three-year prison sentence for kidnapping his best friend. His life went off the rails after his wife died when they'd been married for just three days. Anyone would go a little crazy after the sudden death of the love of their life, right? Andrew is now trying to get his life in order, get away from his demons and start fresh. Then Maddy comes barging in on his life while passing him on the stairs of his new halfway house.

"I squeezed her hand and she squeezed back. We shared more love gazing at each other for those scant seconds than some people get in a lifetime. It was that look I'd envied between Mum and Dad. We had it."

Andrew and Maddy have a whirlwind romance. Unexpected things take place and I was really expecting something awful to happen, not sure why, but it really didn't. They go through their ups and downs like any couple would but what is constant for them is their love. It's true, it's real, and it's pretty hot. Maddy and Andrew can't keep their hands off of each other but the love they share makes it that much better.

Honest review time. This book has been sitting in my queue for quite a while. I finally picked it up and I'm happy I did. I really enjoyed it. It was kind of cryptic in the beginning and I thought the end dragged on for longer than it should have but Ariadne had a story to tell for Andrew and I'm glad she did. Old doors close while new ones open and that's just what happened in Three Days. I'll definitely be reading Loving Rowan to get the whole story and will look forward to more works from this author.

Wow, what a sweet story of love and friendship Ariadne Wayne brings us with this second book in the Friends series. I have not read the first book so I am just meeting Andrew and Rowan, however the book reads well as a stand alone.

Andrew is fresh off of a prison sentence for taking Rowan. He has learned his lesson, had plenty of time to think about the things he did and is ready to move on with his life. While he would like Rowan as a friend, he knows that's a long shot right now. Not wanting to stay with his parents for long, Andrew finds a boarding house for recently released felons and rents a room there.

Three days is all it took for Maddy to wiggle her way into Andrew's heart. She is a spunky girl that isn't afraid to say what's on her mind, or what she would like to do to Andrew. She has lived at the boarding house all of her life and pretty much knows how to spot "the good ones" and Andrew fits that bill perfectly.

Andrew and Maddie strike up a friendship that leads to so much more. I loved how he wanted to straighten his life out and make peace with his past. The tragedy with his first wife made him act irrationally and he knows what he did was wrong and sees up close and personal as time goes on. There are a few relationships that need mending and you hope as you read that Andrew gets the peace he so craves.

Three Days is a well written, sexy story about love and loss, friendships new and old. While there is an underlying tone for the relationship or lack there of with Maddy's father, Ariadne Wayne doesn't exploit it and moves on from it quickly. I like Three Days so much I am going to read Loving Rowan (book one) to see exactly how it all began.

Review for Three Days (Friends #2) by Ariadne Wayne

Review done for Hooked on Books

4 out of 5 stars

Andrew Carmichael lost his wife after only 3 days of marriage. In his downward spiral, he also lost his best friends Rowan.

After spending 3 years in jail paying for his sins, he is a free man again. Being in jail has allowed him to figure out his life and heal from some of his grief.

When he moves in to a half way house, he meets Maddie. They have an instant attraction to each other.

Maddie is somewhat broken as well. But with Andrew with her, he is able to heal and grow as a person.

Andrew decides that he also needs to try and make amends, or at least apologize to Rowan and her husband Kyle. Fortunately, they see he is a changed man and allow him his apology.

I really liked Andrew. I just wish he didn’t get together with Maddie so fast. It didn’t seem like he gave himself enough time to really get his life together before he moved ahead with another woman. Even though they are great together, I think Andrew needed to experience life on his own for a while.

Overall it was a great story. I definitely recommend this series to read!

Sweet N Sassy Book A Holics Review ★★★★★

~~~~Dee's ★★★★★ Review~~~~
Book 1 took Andrew to the deepest, darkest valley of death and destruction. At the beginning of book 2, Andrew is being released from prison, completing his punishment for the crimes committed three years previously.
Now he is in the frame of mind of seeking forgiveness and finding redemption. A large part of that healing process is bound up in the dramatic presence of one remarkable woman, Maddy. It was a lovely experience watching Andrew finding love, purpose, peace and meaning to his life. The evolution of the various relationships were a joy to observe. The episodes of darkness that entered the lives of Maddie and Andrew only strengthened their love for each other and opened up new opportunities that filled their hearts with an abundance of sunshine. I thoroughly enjoyed this journey and applaud the author on a job well done. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.
Whilst this can be read as a stand alone, a lot of Andrews back story can be found in 'Loving Rowan'. (It's free at the moment so worth the try)
This book is, in my opinion, so much better than Loving Rowan. I feel the characters are more rounded and real - not that they were that bad in Loving Rowan, these are just better. The story is engaging, captivating and thoroughly real. There are no billionaires, no rock stars etc. just everyday people struggling with everyday issues. This book is written from Andrew's POV and it surprised me that I enjoyed this. I usually like dual POV's so I know how both main characters are feeling etc.
As with her other stories this book doesn't finish with just a HEA. It follows the story of Andrew and Maddy for several years beyond where most stories would have finished. Again the characters are well rounded and someone you could live next door to. The plot is believable and you really can't help but love Andrew. It was also nice to catch up with characters from the previous book in the series.
2.5 star. I just really wasn't feeling this book. Andrew and Maddie moved way to fast for me and there was really no conflict despite all the stuff that went on in the last book. And I just find it completely unbelievable that Andrew and Rowan would become friends again after everything that went on in the first book.
My second read from author Ariadne Wayne (Andrew's story) was well written and enjoyable. The characters were well created and well defined, capturing the reader’s interest; I liked how the author transitioned between first person points of view. I look forward to the next book in the series.
