Sin City #3

Slow Burn

Rate this book
Beth Levine left her Ohio hometown and cheating fiancé behind, determined to shake things up. She succeeds beyond her wildest dreams when she finds a job touring the country with a band she’s never heard of. Because even uptight, rule-abiding accountants need to live a little.

Everything about Jesse Rhodes is larger than life, including his rattlesnake tattoos. He’s sexy as sin, but Beth’s got a front row seat to all the girls who throw themselves at him, and she’s not interested in vying for his attention. Besides, all the sexual chemistry in the world won’t make her and the lead singer right for each other.

Jesse takes one look at Beth’s pin-up girl curves and wary eyes and knows he’s in trouble. But Beth isn’t looking for a fling, and with his career taking off, a few sexy weeks are all he has to offer. As soon as the tour is over they’ll go their separate ways. At least, that's the plan...but some things are easier said than done.

Slow Burn is a 61,000 word contemporary romance novel. It can be enjoyed as a stand-alone or as part of the series.

About the author

Isabel Morin

Isabel began reading romances at the age of fourteen. That's the year her grandmother came to visit, bringing with her a shopping bag filled with (very tame) Harlequin and Silhouette romance novels. Isabel was immediately and forever hooked. What could be better than experiencing all that lust and new love just by reading a book?

She earned her MFA in poetry, but meeting her soon-to-be-husband made her too happy to write her usual melancholy poems. It was time to try her hand at writing the kinds of books she’d been gobbling up for years. Now she writes steamy contemporary romances about men and women discovering their true selves while navigating their way to great sex and true love.

In her spare time, Isabel watches British mysteries, plays disc golf (it’s a thing), and religiously re-watches Dirty Dancing. She lives in Connecticut with her conveniently tall, dark, and handsome husband.

I really enjoyed the story of Beth and Jesse. I generally like a good "rockstar" read, but this one was unique and kept my interest more than others. I think it was the fact that Jesse and his band were up and coming talent - still touring the hard way. There's no tour bus, and they are literally traveling from city to city and state to state in multiple vehicles. Beth is hired to be an assistant tour manager. That sounds a lot fancier than it actually is. She does a lot of little things - including selling the merchandise for the band. There is a no sex rule stipulated at the time she was hired as the only female going on tour. This is adhered to for most of the book. There is a connection between Beth and Jesse. It was nice to watch it strengthen as the story progressed. They do fall hard for each other, but won't admit it to the other for fear that it is not reciprocated. Jesse believes he is showing Beth by his actions, but being male - he goes about it the wrong way and his actions are mis-read by Beth. To be fair, most women would mis-read Jesse's actions where he believes he is portraying how much he cares. The read near the end of the book is quite bumpy for the pair, and I was surprised by the actions when the tour was nearing it's end. You need to read it to find out. I would have liked to have seen a little more interaction with Will in order to have a stronger dynamic of the feelings that were there. I wasn't really feeling the tension there. He was instrumental in getting her the interview for the job. I would have also enjoyed the conversation and the meeting of the parents. That would only have enhanced the story in my opinion. I haven't read the other books in this series, but I'm going to have to pick them up. I would recommend this book and author to anyone who enjoys a good romance with troubles that are fairly realistic - if you were in that relationship.

Great book! The author took me on a journey that was filled with self discovery, friendship and love story that was built up throughout the book; not in the first 5 pages.

I really liked Beth and Jesse's introduction to each other. They had an instant connection, but decided to stay away from that complication due to the nature of the 4 week concert tour, and Beth's decision to take a break from 'heartache'.

I liked the way the author didn't play on the typical band of hot musicians that slept with every groupie, falling down drunk and drugs all the time, etc. The respect that Jesse showed Beth after she watched him spend the night with a groupie; to never do that again throughout the rest of the book. Jesse and Beth got to know each other away from the concerts by driving the country together in Beth's Subaru outback. They sang together, talked about life, laughed, explored different landmarks in each state, etc. This was how their love was developed.

I was very pleased with the ending of this story too. It is definitely a HEA, so you won't be disappointed.

“I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review”. That being said I realy loved the story of Beth and Jesse. There was enough angst and twists in the story. Wish I could rate it 4.5 here. I loved the fact there was enough of the roadie type story here and that both were leary of any permanent realtionships. But were willing to see just how far they could go without the fear that the other would leave first. I now must read the second book. Have the first also need to read. But each is its own HEA ending. Will look out for Isabel Morin's books in the future.

Beth needs a change so she moves to Las Vegas and decides to tour with as band as an assistant. She is taking a four week break from her career as an accountant. Right away she hits it off with the bands' lead singer. Can she control her feeling for the 4 weeks until the tour ends?

***Received a copy for my honest review***

Love rocker stories and this one was nice because it was a little different with having them not making it to the big time yet. Looking forward to reading the first 2 books in the series.

I'm giving up at 35%. I don't feel any chemistry between h/h and it's slow.
