Never Date Your Nemesis

Rate this book
It started with spilled coffee and a sarcastic standoff in a stalled elevator.
Now I can’t stop thinking about the guy who drives me insane.

Lewis Harper is everything I’m not—quiet, rigid, impossible to read.

When our boss assigns us to co-lead a major project, things get tense.
So I suggest fake dating to cool the rumors and calm the team.
It’s reckless. It’s ridiculous. It works.

Suddenly, we’re holding hands at happy hour.
Trading smirks in meetings.
Swapping ideas—and inside jokes—like it’s second nature.

And somewhere between his dry wit and thoughtful silence, something shifts.

He starts to see me.
He listens, backs my craziest ideas, and never makes me feel like too much.

Now the pretending feels dangerously real.
And I’m catching myself wishing for more.

But falling for a coworker already burned me once.
If I misread this—if I fall and he doesn’t?
I lose the one person who makes me feel like I finally belong.

Never Date Your Nemesis by Tessa Quinn is a contemporary office romance and opposites attract story about two colleagues whose rivalry turns into something far more tender when they agree to fake date to calm workplace tension, only to discover that maybe the person who drives you the most crazy could also be the one you’ve been longing for all along.

The heroine, Sophie, is bright, chaotic, covered in sticky notes, and full of ideas, while Lewis Harper is quiet, rigid, and almost impossible to read: their first meeting includes spilled coffee and a stalled elevator, setting the tone for a dynamic that is equal parts hilarious, tense, and unexpectedly warm. Assigned to co‑lead a major project together, their professional partnership becomes personal in gentle, sweet ways as faux dating leads to shared jokes, happy hour hand‑holding, and moments that begin to feel dangerously real.

From the very beginning Sophie’s effervescent energy made me feel her optimism and genuine belief that people can surprise you, which beautifully contrasted with Lewis’s controlled silence and dry wit; watching them learn from each other felt emotionally satisfying in a cozy, workplace‑romance kind of way. What resonated most for me was how the story unfolds with soft emotional growth rather than dramatic melodrama, letting small, everyday interactions, like inside jokes and thoughtful support on a difficult project become the foundation of trust and connection between them.

I found myself smiling at how Lewis begins to see Sophie’s spark as less chaotic and more refreshing, and how Sophie starts to recognize the quiet strength behind his reserved nature. The dual points of view help you feel genuinely inside each character’s head so their evolving feelings feel real and earned rather than rushed or superficial. I appreciated the blend of humor, gentle chemistry, and workplace romance energy that makes this a quick, engaging read.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I’m giving Never Date Your Nemesis four stars because its authentic emotional progression, sparkling banter, and the way it made me root for Sophie and Lewis warmed my heart; while its shorter length and light stakes make it a breezy read rather than a deeply complex one, the chemistry and sweet vibes made it an uplifting contemporary romance I’d happily recommend to fans of workplace enemies‑to‑lovers stories.

It Took Courage to Try New Things -
Sophie is bubbly and sunshine, whilst Lewis likes structure and conformance, so putting them together as co-leads on a project technically shouldn’t work, but he soon starts to see things her way. However, just as Lewis accepted Sophie’s quirks that actually made the project better, she made a suggestion that involved him, which really blew his mind, but he later accepted after a bit of consideration. Not long after Lewis agreed to Sophie’s suggestion, she pushed his boundaries, but it didn’t matter at that point at they had been working together seamlessly.

Sophie and Lewis’s budding relationship was slightly derailed when they attended a meeting with her ex-boyfriend and he tried to stake his claim, but they managed to find a way to make him back off. Nevertheless, Sophie and Lewis were able to get back on track to working together efficiently. I enjoyed reading this sweet, clean entertaining story, with engaging characters and a pleasant storyline. Even though the story ended without confirming if they had a happily ever after, I will still be happy to recommend this book.

This is a story about Lewis and Sophie. Lewis is quiet, reserved, and the expected persona of a programmer. Sophie is all glitter and bright post it notes. They are given a project that requires them to work together to solve a program for a company. The progression in this story is easy to follow. The working knowledge they both have of code is amazing. Sofia came up with a scheme to get the entire team interest peaking and Lewis goes along with it. Nicely written story. I liked the progression of the story. When the investors and the head of the company they are writing the code for comes in to see the progress is very interesting. Great ending. I received a free copy of this book. I am leaving this review on my own.

Controlled chaos is how I would describe this book! The two characters are the complete opposite of one another and yet complement each other perfectly!

While I completely understand the entire deal with her ex, it felt like Lewis should have been in the room with Sophie when Brandon wanted a meeting with her.

There were a couple of grammatical errors with a misspelled word here and there. The one thing that really bugged me was the CEOs message to Sophie. It was literally the exact same sentence to her twice. I don’t know if the author just messed up here and copied the wrong sentence in the second time or what, but it jarred me out of the story enough that I actually went back to find the first message to see if I was crazy. I was not.

Code overload!

Lewis is presented with a new worker, and life is never the same. Sophie is bright and shiny, full of unconventional ideas that work. Sophie doesn't pull back her vibrant personality, but instead flaunts it, inserts it easily, and her ideas make everything better.
However... I found myself skimming paragraphs, bored by discussions of code and presumably related discussion. Not a good fit for those of us who are not doing that kind of job, or have the training to understand it.

A sharp, funny enemies‑to‑lovers romance with great banter and a relationship payoff at the end. Tessa Quinn balances snark, chemistry, and vulnerability so the relationship feels earned rather than gimmicky. Light, engaging, and satisfyingly heartfelt — perfect if you want a contemporary romance that delivers both humour and warmth. Lewis and Sophie have sparks flying in their team and in Sophie's unique way she persuades Lewis that to work best together they have to fake date.... then it becomes real!

MC: Sophie and Lewis

Thoughts: This was a sweet short read. Sophie's colorful and bright personality disrupts Lewis' carefully structured world. While he initially rejects everything she does, he slowly and almost involuntarily, starts adapting to her. The reader could see their relationship developing - him slowly adapting to her, Sophie slowly accepting him and seeing beyond his facade. Definitely recommend.

Book Notes: Told in First person, dual POV. Elevator, colorful sticky notes

I liked this story and the characters but there was way too much code talk. I get that was their career but if the reader doesn't know code it made some of the paragraphs kind of boring. I also noticed a few grammatical errors and some paragraphs that were repeated.

I thoroughly enjoyed NEVER DATE YOUR NEMESIS! It’s a lovely, lively, sweet and funny, clean, slow burn romance. Other than a lot of coding terms I was unfamiliar with, it was a grand tale!
