Here's the newest book from Brian Andreas, the writer & artist behind StoryPeople. It's filled with love & magic & secret notes to help you remember the most important things in your life... It's full color, just like the hardcover version, so you can carry its magic with you on your Kindle, anywhere you go...
I’m a longtime fan of Mr. Skye, but this book has fewer poems that resonate with joy and wisdom than his others. A few are absolute keepers, and it’s a must for a completist.
I liked a lot of things about this book. I didn't start reading in a cynical frame of mind, but the way he addressed Love seemed very person-centric...he clearly has someone he cares for very much in mind as he writes. I don't have that right now in my life, so I preferred poems of generalized Love because they are much more relateable right now. I can see how magical it would be to someone reflecting on their own Love, but for me it kind of served as a reminder for what is not in my life. I don't want to use the word "missing" because a person can live a full life alone. I am just not part of a love story right now, and I think this book holds a richer meaning for those who are.
Easily my most favorite Brian Andreas book I've read, he just has a way with words that makes you feel all tingly inside. He's a great reminder to me to not take life so seriously and to just love people well.
I'm not sure how to categorize Brian Andreas's books, but I love his stories. He captures so much meaning in so few words. I could read the stories over and over and I often do. I love the Secrets shared in this book and refer to them often.
Gave this to a friend who recently beat cancer. She whispered something wonderful to me after I did so, all thanks to these stories about love. Thank you.
Brian Andreas' collection "Something Like Magic" is very sincerely expressed -- it is praise poetry intermixed with his art. His is definitely a relaxing voice, one that is sentimental and kindly admonishes rather than forcefully suggests how to love/live. Sometimes he's a bit too long winded, sometimes he's too abrupt, but that doesn't take away from the fact he is pointing out meaningful things. All in all, a cute read!
