Thorn's Vow: Love and Magic - Book Six

Rate this book
Juneau just wants her life to go back to normal. After some strange magic emerges from a desire to save her best friend, all she wants is to work in the library and help Luci make her little books. That’s it. Fate, it seems, has other things in mind for her. When she takes a trip into the forest to calm her nymph side, she’s confronted by a stranger with a name on his tongue - a name she’d hoped to never hear again. He wants to take her back, to a life she never wanted in the first place, but she’s not going without a fight.

Banner doesn’t have any choice but to drag her along. A bounty hunter in a land leery of hired muscle, he turned to poaching to keep from starving. When caught red-handed on the Marquess’ land, he gives the werewolf two options - go to prison and await the hangman’s justice, or take the mark of the Judge and swear to retrieve his runaway daughter so he can make a political match. Whether he refuses or fails, the price is the same - his life.

Thorn's Vow is book six in a series of standalones featuring plus-size MCs, and can be read separately from the series (though it does contain some spoilers for the ending of the previous book).

I’m a terrible ARC reviewer! I am so sorry this review is late! But I really enjoyed this book! This was the first book I’ve read by this author. J saw a tik tok about it and said oh right up my alley. I didn’t even realize it was apart of a series. This was a very cute and fun read. Banner and Juneau had such great banter! I know the author said you read this without reading any of the others in the series. Which you obviously can but I think I would’ve enjoyed it more had I read the others. I will definitely go back and read the others leading up to this book. I hope there are plans to do a book about Banners friend and the bird man that gets turned down.

I really enjoyed Juneau and Banner's story!

Juneau has retreated back to the library after using a strange magic to save herself and her best friend, Luci. When she goes to a familiar glen in the forest to calm her nymph side, she encounters Banner, a bounty hunter who has taken the job of bringing her back to her father. Her father cast Juneau and her mother out years ago, but now he's decided that she may be useful to him so he wants her back. Unfortunately for Banner, she isn't going back without a fight. What Juneau doesn't know is that Banner was caught poaching on the Marquess' land and his choices were a magical vow to complete this mission or death. As they travel together, Banner appreciates Juneau's clever attempts to escape and Juneau learns that Banner might not be as cold-hearted as she first thought.

I really enjoyed seeing how Banner and Juneau learned about each other and got closer. They were both standoffish and prickly in the beginning and they softened over time - first to each other and then to their friends and acquaintances. I really liked how Juneau did not just comply once it was clear that Banner had captured her. She did everything she could think of to find a way to get back to the home she had made in the capital. The way that Banner and Juneau fell in love also felt really organic to me. The banter between them was awesome and I loved that it didn't stop just because they fell in love. The way that Banner and Juneau warmed up to Roan and Urul respectively was so sweet and I felt like it showed a lot of self-awareness on both their parts that they recognized their previous brashness with them. This was such a fun adventure and I will definitely be picking up more books by this author.

Starting this series was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Seriously, it's so worth it.

I feel like it's a very intimate story, the intensity of the shifting emotions that Juneau and Banner go through throughout the book has overwhelmed me, in a good way in the sense that it has made me feel all kinds of emotions. They have my whole heart, I tear it out and give it to them🫴🏻🫀😆.

The development of both is perfect: from being closed-off and even a little surly people, to trusting and opening up to others, both romantically and with those who care about them.

As someone who pictures books like movies in my head, I was so into this one that it felt like I was actually there because of how well it was written. The worldbuilding of these stories has very medieval/D&D vibes.

And obviously with WILD smut and it's soooo good (heavy spanking, knotting, she bound him with her green-nature magic and much more!)

🌶️4/5

Starting a series at the sixth entry seems unwise but fear not, this is a standalone and you will find your footing straightaway!

I really enjoyed the story and dynamic between the main characters. So many microtropes to keep you entertained with several knotting scenes. Did I mention the banter? Because that was a thing, and not only with the MCs but also with the secondary characters.

How the main conflict got resolved was quite satisfying to read. I enjoyed the ending, amusing and not too sappy.

This was such a fun read and I'll be happy to read the whole series from scratch.

ARC Review:

I’ve said all through the first five books in the Love and Magic Series that I could never pick a favorite—but Thorn’s Vow absolutely stole the crown. This book gave me everything—it made me laugh, it broke my heart, and it had me fanning myself with all the hot, spicy goodness.

Juneau just wants a quiet life in the library, but fate throws her into Banner’s path, and from there the ride is nonstop. Their story had me hooked from the first page, and by the end, I was an emotional mess in the best way possible.

Pix, you’ve done it once again and I cannot wait to get a physical copy to add to the rest of your collection on my shelf.

4.25⭐️

Loved the sassy fmc(literally cursed more than our mmc). Our mmc was the definition of grumpy and loves to please and loves curves. Some explicit stuff happens at page 108 and page 138 🌶️🌶️🌶️. So some insta lust. There were times I did think the mmc was bit too grumpy (calling her a cunt and not her 🐱)

When an icy sharp tongued nymph is forced into spending time with a world haggard werewolf it works out about how you'd expect, until it doesn't. A fun dark romance, I'm jumping in on the 6th book of the series but didn't feel like I was trying to figure out dynamics or characters the whole time. I might have to go back and read some of the other pairings though.
