A week has passed since the atrocities upon the Isle of Wight off the south-coast of England, and the bombing that followed, a week in which the clandestine Section 73 have done their best to remove all witnesses and evidence to the nightmare created by one of their rogue scientists. Paris, The City of Light, the cultural capital of Europe, visited by forty-seven million tourists annually, all flooding to the city to enjoy its aura of charm and sophistication. All that is about to change as the Inanis bug, carried high upon the wind across the channel has come back down… Vive la France? It's not looking good…
Lucie is what seems to be your common street trash, as well as being a known prostitute. While out on a day of pickpocketing through the city, she notices a white, shiny, glittery cloud overhead. Shortly after that, Lucie is witness to horrific crimes against women, and children being perpetrated by all of the men. Violent acts of sexual deviance, gore, and vile acts of inhumane proportions. While attempting to escape, Lucie meets up with a stone cold woman, in a business suit, who seems to not be from here. Who is she? Where did she come from? And, why does she seem to know what's going on in the city Lucie calls home? Only the mysterious woman knows, and she's not talking. However, the woman asks Lucie to assist her in reaching "her people". Lucie, under the agreement of payment accepts, and they are off. On a journey that may possibly claim both of their lives, if they aren't careful, and somewhat trust each other. Will they survive the beginning outbreak of phase two? I really like this! It was a bit different from phase one, in the fact that there was less gore, and more action. Mind you, there is still a fair amount of delicious gore, and vile scenes in this book. The characters were strong in this, and gave you the sense that they would most definitely survive. Jones, the main male character is a bad ass! Honestly, so is Lucie. If you have read phase one of this, you MUST read this, as it has everything you love from phase one, and tweaks the formula enough to keep it fresh. I highly recommend this, if you have little to no triggers, have read the other five books, or just are a fan of Kelvin, period! 5⭐/5⭐
As the men are overcome, the brutality commences. But something feels different. There is a self-awareness in ‘Agnes and Jones which is very exciting. Is the bug evolving or mutating? I cannot wait to find out!
The Gomorrah series is pure gold for extreme horror fans! "Phase Two" came as a total surprise, and I couldn't wait to see where Kelvin Allison would take things; thankfully, the wait is over and it was worth it! The first installment is the length of a short novelette, introducing the characters and explaining their situation. This time around, two of the main characters are fully aware of the virus turning people into sadistic maniacs, and of the three-stage development of the infection (first the men, then the women, last the children). Those two are a cold and blunt 60-year-old woman, the head of a clandestine organization (picture Dame Judi Dench playing M, the head of MI6, in the James Bond movies) and her bodyguard, a capable and loyal agent who's unfortunately a man (picture Daniel Craig as you-know-who!); and his being a man is indeed unfortunate, since they're both caught up in Paris as the city is hit with the Inanis bug, and men are the first to go almost immediately bonkers. Outshining them both, however, is Lucie, a French young woman who's been through hell growing up and is tough as nails. Thanks to her, "Paris" reads practically as a standalone (hint: the perfect place to jump in!), and it feels like even the reader familiar with Gomorrah is experiencing the virus' impact for the first time!
I had a lot of fun with this first installment, and I eagerly recommend it! Watch out for triggers, especially if you love babies, children, teenage girls, dogs, frogs, and French snobisme (for some reason, this sounds like a French movie plot lol).
Every so often you get introduced to a main character and you fall in love with them, you wish you could be even the smallest bit like them in the real world and this is completely what I got from the MC Lucie, from the first line to the last I was so pulled in to her fight.
The story was incredible and the gore that is always expected from Kelvin V A Allison - author was there as usual, however personally it felt more intense because I was routing for Lucie. Because the character development was done so well, everything just felt even more personal that was thrown at her. I got this book as an ARC and I truly believe every book in this series gets better and better.
The best parts of kelvin’s characters and their development is that they are normal people who have managed to keep their heads and values, and that should be the kind of characters we pay attention to.
The Inanis Bug is unrelenting and it has now traveled to France. Our protagonist, Lucie, is just trying to survive life by pickpocketing, and now she has a mission: to transport live cargo across France to the company that made the bug. Will she and her cargo survive?
In the midst of men going wild, Lucie and her companions hurdle several obstacles, and it's one of carnage and gore. There's another unwilling protagonist named Jones, who fights the bug with sheer willpower, and he's one to look out for. True to its successor, phase 2 does not let up. The terror that swept across the UK is now ravaging France, and it's wilder and more terrifying than ever.
I couldn't breathe while reading this, and now I'm just looking forward to the rest of Phase 2. Hope you're ready, because I'm not.
So glad the Gomorrah series is carrying on. Obviously if you're here, you've read the rest of the series and this next installment doesn't disappoint. It has a different setting, obviously and new characters who are just experiencing the virus for the first time. Lucie is badass, such a great character and Jones is super cool and affected in a different way to what we've previously experienced, which I found very interesting. A great short read and I'm looking forward to more x
England was only an appetiser. Rape check Murder check Improper use of an eiffel tower statue check Sex scene with a....nope nope nope not gonna go there Kelvin V A Allison does it again with Paris: Gomorrah phase 2. Brutal from start to finish 1st its the men next its the women.
onto phase two of one of the most brutal series of books I've read. this time the Inanis Bug has worked it's way to Paris and is wreaking havoc. I won't leave spoilers, but the frog scene....why Kelvin....the Scorpion was rough ..but the frog. ew. lol
The ianis bug has moved onto Paris with the same outcome of it effecting men first who turn into brutal killers, the story follows Lucie a peasant trying to survive on the streets, another great edition to the Gomorrah series, short, brutal but essential reading.
