He was twelve years old when the nine-thousand-year-old Order decided he had to be contained.
Jake Slade sees patterns nobody else can see. On the lawless Rim, that strange sight is the only edge he and his mother Anna have. Then the Quantum Order finds them, and the edge becomes a target.
The Order does not tolerate anomalies. It will study Jake, use him, or erase him. But the institution is rotting from the inside, and the veteran who taught Jake to survive is starting to ask questions the Order does not want answered.
As the Temple closes around him, Jake will lose everything he was promised. What he gains is a harder the enemy was never a person. It was the machine. And machines can be broken.

An Empire built on a foundation it does not understand.
This Galactic Empire is quite formidable, and quite dangerous, but it is built on the foundations of an ancient power that they do not fully understand. This becomes a problem as the protagonists become entangled in that power and everything begins to unravel.
The Order is at odds with the Krokonians. The Order tests its advanced weapons on its own civilian population in remote outposts. It seems like the civilians would be more likely to join sides with the "enemy" if they ever had the opportunity to do so. The morality of the Order testing weapons on civilians is explained, but it is quite dubious.
The ancient power the Order relies on is the source of its weaponry, the source of their energy, and the source of their political power throughout the Galaxy.
Echo Born follows,Anna and Jake, mother and son, two freelance mechanics that are constantly on the move, running from one planet to the next. Trying to escape Anna's past, and Jake's future.
They retreat to a Monastery alike planet. Jake joins the Temple and becomes an initiate. Anna continues old work, examining the power source of the Empire, which so happens to be under the temple itself. Here she begins working with Halric, and their romance ensues, but it is short lived.
The power under the temple becomes awakened, and whether it is self aware or not is not clear, but it has little interest in the Order's illusion of power.
The World, Worlds and the Empire itself begin collapsing. This may be the perfect time to strike, but the Krokonians wisely decide to sit this one out.
Main characters are Anna, Jake, Halric and Ryoshi.
