Twenty years ago, I lost everything. My best friend. My family. My entire life.I swore I'd never come back here. Back to the house that holds all of our memories. Yet here I am. Back at Badlands. Wasting $12 for each watered down shot. One more to kill the memories. One more to numb the pain. One more to force me to forget. But those eyes... Those blue eyes, But not just any blue. A silver blue. Like the ocean before a storm. Calm but deadly. Just like hers...When she asked me what I wanted her to do, there was only one answer. "Please... I just want you to make me forget."<
Shattered Sunshine is a fast paced, MF, dark romance. Dad's Best Friend, New Beginnings, Overcoming the past.
Dark, Dirty, and a little bit Nerdy. Kalia Rose writes characters that you hate to love and love to hate. Her books take you on a rollercoaster of emotions but will leave you oh so satisfied at the end.
When she was a teen, she was obsessed with Stephen King and all horror. She wrote dark poetry and stories to pass the time.
Her debut novel, Roll For Initiative, started as a dare from a friend. "Dare you to write a spicy book," they said. And so she did.
When Kalia isn't writing, she is either playing video games with her husband, taking nature photos, or simply curled up with a new book.
Wow - Kalia Rose has set a new bar for my book boyfriend.
Shattered Sunshine is a dark, sexy story about Myles - a man broken by loss, and Mina - also broken by loss. Their paths cross in a dingy club where Mina is working to get her life on a better path. This story line originally made me hesitant, because let's face it - it's happened before, and do we really need another of the same? Nope we don't, and Kalia Rose knew we didn't, so she took the idea and created something new. Mina started college young and is on her way to following her big dreams and this is just a steppingstone on her path. There is something familiar about Mina to Myles, and the moment the reader sees what he sees, you get drawn deeper into this beautifully written story about loss, love and happy endings. Myles and Mina are so well written, the story so beautifully put together, I finished this book in one setting - while at work (shhhh...don't tell my boss!).
I received an advance copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
once again Kalia has out done herself!! this book will have you feeling all the feels! so many twists and turns, ups and downs and the way the mmc and fmc interact will have you drawn in so quick then your head spinning from the "enemies" lol love this read!!
I really enjoyed this book! Shattered Sunshine is a dark romance that grabs your attention early on and holds it all the way through. I read this book in two days. It's a fast paced romance but it's not so fast that it feels rushed or you're left feeling like you've missed some key pieces to their story. Some of the tropes include.. Dad's best friend and Age-Gap. The age gap in this book is about 20 years or so which is a perfect age gap in my opinion!
Overall, it's a really good story. This book will have you feeling a little bit of everything. There are parts in this book that will make you want to cry, some will make you laugh, and others will leave you at the edge of your seat in suspense but most of all you will fall in love with their story. The chemistry between Myles and Mina is palpable!
Below is a little more detail..
You will meet the male main character, Myles, in the Prologue where you will get a chance to see his relationship with his best friend and his family. After some tragic events, Myles assumes he has nothing left and leaves town. Years later he finds himself back in town at a strip club where he develops an immediate attraction to one of the girls. That is where he meets the female main character, Mina, who also finds herself drawn to Myles. Mina goes through a lot in her life but she is a strong character and it was nice to see how her character developed throughout the book.
Once these characters finally figure out who they are to each other and what they mean to one another that is when their story really begins. It's interesting to see how they navigate the conflicting feelings of the head and heart. While fighting for their relationship they also find themselves fighting to stay alive.

Kali Rose's "Shattered Sunshine" is a gripping age-gap romance that beautifully weaves drama and deep emotion into a compelling narrative. The story introduces Myles, who unexpectedly encounters Mina, a determined dancer at a club striving to change her life.
Mina embodies everything Myles yearns for, yet he cannot have her without feeling like he has betrayed his best friend, creating an intense tension throughout the book. Myles is filled with turmoil and regret as he navigates his feelings for Mina while grappling with a secret that threatens to upend their newfound connection. Rose masterfully explores themes of longing, heartbreak, and the complexities of love, making it impossible not to get swept away in their emotional tumult.
"Shattered Sunshine" doesn’t just tell a story; it evokes a whirlwind of feelings, compelling readers to reflect on their own experiences with love and loss. With her vivid writing and relatable characters, Rose ensures that this book will resonate with anyone who has faced the haunting shadows of their past. Brace yourself for a reading experience that will leave you emotionally charged and wanting more.
4.50 stars! I am so honored to be able to read this ARC, comes out Nov, 1st! Thank you Kalia for this! This was a good story! We start at the prologue when we meet Myles sending his friend and his family off on a trip. But an unfortunate event happens and Myles thinks everyone is gone. His best friend along with his best friends wife and daughter. We fast forward many years. Strip club with Mina. Wow! Mina goes through so much!!! She is abused by the strip clubs owner. Declan is a crazy guy. He has it in his head that Myles killed his father and so many crazy things happen in 24 hours. There is sex, torture, murder. After those 24 hours Myles and Mina realize they really have a huge connection. After Myles comes to that realization, he does something stupid (in my opinion) haha and leaves her! WTH! I was so upset! We fast forward 6 months after that night. They both still have huge feelings for each other! Then a whole another thing happens! Someone wants revenge for something. Kidnaps Mina, tortures her again! This girl cannot get a break! But the story does end on a HEA and I really loved the love they had for each other. They just kept wanting to get back to each other!

This is my first time reading a book written by Kalia Rose and I was hooked right from the beginning. This story introduces you to Myles and Mina, both grieving and dealing with the outcome of the same tragic accident that occurred 20 years prior. Mina and Myles find themselves instantly drawn to one another and they don’t know why they feel this instant connection when they “meet for the first time” one fateful night at the local strip club when Myles returns home. This was a fast paced, rollercoaster ride of emotions that kept me on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought things might look good for Myles and Mina, Kalia introduced a speed bump into their journey. Love having both MMC and FMC POV throughout the entire book and thought they flowed very well. Not choppy or repetitive when there was the occasional overlap of situations. I will be reading more books by this author!
Definitely recommend this book but also pay attention to the triggers that are mentioned at the beginning!
I received an ARC copy of this book and am willingly leaving this honest review.

While this was a decent read, I just felt like something was missing. I felt like the relationship between Myles and Mina happened so quickly it was hard to really become attached to them as a couple. I love the history behind them, with Myles being best friends with her dad, and that part of the storyline was completely heartbreaking. Which I think is why it didn’t pull me in as quickly, as I felt like there needed to be more build up to their relationship. I would be interested in reading another book on Cash and Alexandria, as I felt like their chemistry was very well done in just a short amount of time. I think I was looking for a deeper connection with Myles and Mina though that I just personally didn’t get. Insta-love is not one of my favorite tropes and I was just looking for more depth there. That being said, it was an enjoyable book overall and I would recommend it to the right people looking to read it. I again would like to read Cash’s story, as I think that could be very promising. I received an arc copy of this book for an honest review.
“Shattered Sunshine” is the 2nd book that I’ve had the honor of reviewing early and OMG was it worth it! Kalia never disappoints as far as I’m concerned! Miles lost his entire world in the blink of an eye one day in his early 20’s and left all that he knew behind to start over else where…Mina lost her parents at a very young age and went through her own pain and trauma. Many years later an encounter at a strip club and he locks eyes with a beautiful young woman he feels an intense, instant connection .. her eyes 👀 they’re blue not just any blue though. A blue that he will never forget like a silvery blue that he knows deep down is familiar. Once he realizes who she is his world is thrown for a loop. This magnetic pull and connection leads to a dangerous path of darkness and fight or flight sensation Miles never saw coming. Would you risk it all even if you knew it was a forbidden love??? Fast paced, trigger warnings age gap, etc…
I am absolutely thrilled to share that "Shattered Sunshine" is yet another magnificent narrative crafted by the talented Kalia Rose! From the very first page, I was completely captivated by the intriguing premise of this story, and I was consistently impressed by the masterful way in which the characters evolved and deepened throughout the narrative. Lumina and Myles, in particular, shone as dynamic and believable individuals; their interactions were both heartwarming and thought-provoking, and I was deeply moved by the ways in which they blossomed, both in their shared experiences and during their moments of individual growth. Furthermore, the author's exceptional world-building truly elevated the reading experience, transporting me to a richly detailed and immersive realm that I was eager to explore.

The prologue had me curious, as the setup was different from other books by Kalia. Which intrigued me more right away with the story. Was this book going to be the other side of Kalia's stories?
I was hooked from page 1. Needing to know about Mina, Myles, and Declan. How the pieces of their lives for together. Things escalate and resolve so quickly in the first quarter of the book that I started to wonder how the rest of the story would be filled. How could it possibly go on from here? Could I keep reading and be intrigued, or would this be a dnf?
My curiosity was answered not too long after. Another piece to the puzzle came in play with Quin. Would Mina and Myles get their happy ending? Or will Quin finish what Declan started?
"Of course I love you, Lumina. You'll always be my sunshine. "
Age Gap Spice 🌶🌶🌶 Sexual Assault Mental Abuse Physical Abuse Kidnapping Club Atmosphere
I received an ARC version of this book. This book had so much potential. It started out with a hook that made you want more and to find out what happened to the best friend and his family; however, things from there moved so fast. It went from “I don’t know you” to “I love you, move in with me” and it just left me confused and the situation unbelievable. Also, I really wanted to like Myles but he didn’t fit into the Dark Romance MMC persona. He wasn’t the strong, “I’ll burn the world down for you” guy. Then when the twist happened it just moved so fast that you didn’t get much of the backstory. This book had so much potential because the plot was good, it just needed more detail and the MMC to be more of the dark romance MMC that we’re used to.

Shattered Sunshine ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kalia Rose Mina and Myles Myles was coming back to his hometown after 20 years to sell his best friends old house when they died all those years ago. Mina grew up in foster care and was adopted. She moved back to where her biological parents lived before they died. When Myles sees her the first night back there at the club her eyes were same blue as her mother but it couldn’t be her as he was told that no one could’ve survived before he ran from the pain of losing them. What will happen when Miles finds out that she is in fact, the daughter of his best friend and that she’s been alive this whole time?
This book was just WOW. I was hooked right away. The emotional roller coaster I was on left me on the edge of my seat. I was lucky enough to get this book as an arc and what caught my eye immediately was age gap. I’m a fool for a good age gap. I got so much more than just spice with this book though. Don’t get me wrong the spice was spicy! BUT there is so much more to this story. I fell in love with Myles & Mina through everything they went through. There is trauma and loss in this book, so maybe check your triggers. Overall, I loved it and I hope there is another book where I can continue reading about these characters. 10/10 recommend.
Myles & Mina’s meet-cute is not so meet-cute. Poor Myles, I was really feeling for the guy. That was pretty messed up and only led to trauma. But hey, that just makes the story juicier, right?
Myles has all the best parts of a broody MC: bossy (yes, please), laser-focused on his main squeeze (double yes), and everything in between.
Mina is stuck between crap and… more crap. This girl was just trying to survive. Kalia, you really know how to lay down words that get us all up in our feelings. Sniffles. I swear I got something in my eye. And the “villains”? Oh, they were pieces of work that had me all riled up.
This story serves up rich guy/poor girl vibes, an age gap sprinkled into all the twists. Kalia pulls you so deep into the story that I ended up finishing way past my bedtime…
This is such a beautiful tragic story that will rip you apart and put you back together. I was instantly sucked into Myles trauma after losing everything and cutting himself off emotionally from everyone. But even a man’s walls built like a fortress can crumb when after 20 he discovers that maybe he didn’t lose EVERYTHING.
Lumina grew up not knowing much about her family raised by the worst of the worst. Going to school to be able to escape her life was her highlight. One night she meets Myles and the pull undeniable but what is the cause of it all.
Age Gap Touch her and 💀 He falls First Trauma
Without a doubt a unique story that will captivate you!
Like many of kalia’s novels, this one was an emotional rollercoaster in the juiciest way. The unexpected relationships and the pasts they were originally forged in will have your jaw hitting the floor. The tasteful age gap was so well done. I’m not usually a fan of age gaps but you fall so head over heels for these characters that it’s easy to just dive in and love it.
The surprise twist at the end was the ultimate chefs kiss for long time fans who have read other books by her. it gave us everything we didn’t know we needed and had me begging for more.
4⭐️ 3🌶️ Shattered Sunshine By: Kaila Rose -Dads Best friend -Age gap -Mafia -Overcoming the past -New beginnings This is my first book by Kaila Rose and what a world wind of emotions it was. This book is a fast pace, page turner that leaves you gasping at every turn. If you love a good mafia, dad‘s best friend, age gap this is the book for you. Kaila captures your attention from the beginning and doesn’t let go. Her characters are very relatable and well developed. The plot is well done throughout the whole book and spice is spicy! A must read for all.
Myles loses his best friend along side his wife and daughter, or so he thought.?? 20 years later Myles goes back to his home town to handle some things. He goes to a club in his home town and his whole world gets turned upside down..
I loved the whole entirety of the story. the plot is great along with the character development. This book is on the darker side so check your TW.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Posting my honest review from an early read. hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did.
I consumed...no I absolutely devoured this story! Every part of it stuck it's claws into me and dragged me further and further into the story. Mina and Myles are both deeply broken people from their pasts, but seeing them opening up and healing together absolutely won my heart! But damn do they go though it to get there. For those that enjoy fast past spice with trauma and romance, check this out. But definitely 100% check the trigger warnings! Also ahhh the bonus epilogue!
Shattered Sunshine broke my heart and pieced it back together again! This was such an emotional book in some ways and roller coaster in others. So much trauma and love all in the same book.
I love Lumina and Myles! They go through so much together. They complete each other. This is not your typical love story though!
I couldn’t put this book down. I devoured it and didn’t want it to end!!
Check this book out! You don’t want to miss this one! Kalia has done it again!!
Review of Shattered Sunshine This was my second read from this author—and definitely not my last. The characters are so well developed, I found myself wanting to know them beyond the pages. And Myles? Oh, Myles. Everyone deserves a Myles in their life. This story blends mafia intrigue, steamy romance, emotional memories, and deep love into one addictive ride. If you're into high-stakes drama with heart, this book delivers. Go grab it—you won’t regret it!
I couldn't put this one down. It's fast-paced, but the storyline fits well with the pace and there's the perfect amount of spice to make it good without overtaking the plot. I love how the MC's are described and the growth they have throughout the book. Definitely got a cathartic moment or two as well. How? You'll just have to read to find out. I promise, it's worth it.
I literally couldn’t put this down … DEVOURED IT IN LIKE 2 hrs !!!! I was hooked from the beginning… Myles is the sweet hot older man we all need in our lives …I enjoyed having both POVS throughout the story...i may have shed a tear or two and at the same time got a little spicy 🌶️ I liked the plot and story line very much and the characters . I am so glad I was able to be selected to get an advanced reading copy of this one …. So good …
Absolutely enjoyed this book. The amount of times I was pissed off about a “villain” and was hoping for the best was crazy but totally worth it. If you like age gap romance and technically a forbidden romance (according to the MMC lol) this book is it. Curious to see if there will be a story about Cash and Alexandria though.
WOW!!!!! Sunshine and Myles..I love their story!!!! This was so good! It literally grabbed me from the beginning, kept me on the edge of my seat, made me cry and laugh..and I loved every minute of it. Definitely feel like it left on a cliffhanger so I’m really hoping for a book 2. Check your triggers! Definitely recommend!!!
4.5 ⭐️’s!! 2.5-3 🌶️ This was so good!! I mean, dad’s best friend and an age gap will ALWAYS get me. This was emotional and there was so much plot and every chapter ended in a way that makes it almost impossible not to read the next one lol I truly don’t have very many words to describe this… It had me so pulled in, I felt the emotions and the chemistry… Very well done and highly recommend!!
I was so thankful to get an early copy of this book. Kalia you have me so obsessed. I had the hardest time putting it down. I loved all of the characters stories. Not gonna lie I would love a second book to explore another dancers love story. “Wink wink” I LOVED the ending!!! You nailed it!!!
Everytime I pick up a book by Kalia I fall in love. This book is dark, spicy and so packed full of feels you will have to sit with it for a while after it’s over! It’s a beautiful read dealing with loss, love and finding your happiness. Beautifully written and a great twist to a known tale.
Omg this book was absolutely amazing 🤩 I loved the plot and the characters. The plot is soo interesting and will definitely keep you wanting to know more and the writing style was absolutely fantastic the book flowed so well and it didn’t feel to fast or slow but just the right pace
This is a fantastic book that really held my attention from the first page. If you’re looking for an amazing story with a lot of interesting content this is something you need to read.
