The league’s biggest hothead just got engaged to his worst enemy.
After escaping a relationship that’s splashed across every sports headline, Juliet Monroe moves back to Seattle and swears off hockey players for good.
Then Seattle Havoc enforcer Hunter Huxley punches a fan on live TV. Now the team’s grumpy, six-foot-six problem child has a PR disaster on his hands, and Juliet’s the only consultant desperate enough to take the job.
They can’t stand each other. He’s all muscle and menace. She’s all bombshell lipstick and cutting comebacks. But the team’s solution is simple: fix his bad-boy image with a fake engagement, smile for the cameras, wear the ring, and live together until the story sticks.
Juliet can fake the smiles. What she can’t fake is the chemistry that crackles every time he looks at her like he’s imagining her in his bed instead of in a press release.
Hunter doesn’t care about redemption. He cares about winning. But living with Juliet turns every fight into foreplay and every touch into a losing battle.
What starts as a contract starts to feel real. Because the league’s angriest player is about to break his own rules… and fall for the woman he is never supposed to touch.
Tropes: enemies to lovers, fake fiancée, opposites attract, he falls first, forced proximity, spicy romance, he hates everyone but her
“He is supposed to be the mess she cleans up. She is supposed to be untouchable. Instead, the line between them keeps burning away, and one of them is going to get scorched.”
This was my first book by this author and I LOVED it. (My weakness is Grumpy sunshine and ice-hockey.) I devoured this book in days and it has left me wanting more! I need a Hunter in my life. This book had a great backstory, angst, banter and the spice.
There was no instant love, but the build up had me wanting to keep reading into the early hours of the morning. Both Main characters are well-developed – Hunter is protective and soft under his grump sunshine exterior, and Juliet is strong and driven. Both were overcoming their own past-trauma (Toxic relationship with family or Ex’s) and together started to heal.
Definitely add this book to your list! I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

This was a new author to me, who came highly recommended, and I now see why.
Juliet and Hunter Huxley have a past connection but certainly not a good one. When she makes an off handed comment to her friend, that Hunter's PR might improve if he has a fiancée, she finds herself thrust into the role.
It was easy to connect with the team energy and banter and comraderie. The sizzling chemistry between Juliet and Hunter was never in question, and I appreciate the ups and downs in their HEA journey. Fake to start, then a real, true, and supportive ending. Love it.
I recommend this hockey romance, and this author. I can’t wait to jump into Silas and Scout's story. :)
Loved this book - both characters are well-developed and have great character arcs. Hunter is a perfect MMC, protective but soft only for her. Juliet is a strong, witty FMC. Their love story is adorable and the spice is definitely spicing. Would definitely recommend!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
It tackles some things and does not gloss over real issues.
Huxley. Hockey. Enforcer for his team. Angry all the time. Betrayed but the one person who should ALWAYS be there. On the verge of full expulsion from the NHL.
Juliet. PR aspirations. A guy in college ruined some opportunities. Just out of a horrid, verbal abusive relationship!
Goes to a hockey game with her roommate who works for the team. A passing comment from her leads down a rabbit hole where she has to help the one person who derailed her life in college. Yep. Huxley.
This book was great. No shortcuts on the story line. Definitely no instant love. But the build. The backstory. What grows out of it is magic.
Got to read a super early copy (beta read) and YOU WANT this Hockey romance! It’s the perfect time of year for this book and let me tell you; the angst, the banter, the juicy steam are absolute PERFECTION!!
This had potential, but really needs more developmental editing. Some weird continuity things that I’m not sure what the correct information was, timeline inconsistencies, and points where I had to question whether I misremembered something or if it just didn’t make sense. The premise generally works, and it truly did come down to the editing (or lack thereof).
I loved this one so much. I loved all the tension, drama, hockey and so much more. I enjoyed seeing these two finally come together and be happy. The whole story had me on the edge of my seat
2.5 It was okay and the plot kept me interested, for the most part. The MCs were likable. (Possible spoilers ahead) I did think the book was too long.
*backstory* H and h knew each other in college. Their past relationship was not fleshed out more, so it felt a little incomplete. We know they don’t like each other. And H does not like Patrick, h’s boyfriend. h overhears H saying some nasty stuff about her, which is then printed in an article. Supposedly, that ruined her chance for a job. 🤷♀️ We find out later that H actually did like her and he said all that stuff just to keep the guy from hitting on her. (The book did flashbacks at certain points to give this information) I feel like a prologue would’ve been better instead of it sprinkled throughout the book. ———————
So now, in present day- h is trying to get into the PR business with the NHL. She really doesn’t like hockey players due to her ex, Patrick. He’s 💩. Also, h’s mom is super judgmental about everything she does. She’s always nagging h to go to law school.
h has only ever been with Patrick. He wasn’t any good in bed. He was small (peen) and selfish.
H has BIG TIME anger issues. His mom used to be his agent, but she robbed him blind. The book doesn’t make him out to be a Playboy. His issues with relationships is “hE’s nOt gOoD eNoUgH” Personally, I’d say H was mostly a green flag. His two brothers are also on the team with him (they all have mama issues)
The plot starts where H and h have to pretend to be engaged. She’s supposed to rehab his image. For some bizarre reason, she wears red lipstick all the time, even to sleep in. 🙄 “it’s her armor” I never really felt they were true enemies. More like two people who just annoyed each other.
Naturally, they both start to develop feelings for each other while all the drama is going on around them (ex saying nasty things, H’s mom causing problems, and h’s mom being mean)
The friendship group starts to form (which will be the couples in upcoming books) The women call their group The Coven.🤪
There’s no smex until after 62%- so it’s a slow build up. H is pierced. There is no 3rd act breakup I’d say they both admit they love each other about 80% and at that point, the book is pretty much over. The rest is the couple working together on their relationship. I do have to admit that the last few chapters were a little repetitive. The h would always ask H “what if this doesn’t work” “what if we don’t work out” or “what is we make a mistake” ugh
● Forced Proximity ● Opposites Attract ● Found Family
● Grumpy x Sunshine ● Protective Streak ● Touch Her & Die
● Secretly Soft Hero ●Forbidden Workplace Overlap ● He Hates Everyone But Her
My Review :
This is my first book that i have acquired of 'BookSirens' and it is also my first book by this author as well, so i am excited to see what her books is like, and if I will enjoy it while it is also a category that I wouldn't normally read. So all in all this is going to be exciting for me, I am going to be writing my review as I go along reading the book and making notes of my favourite parts and quotes.
We are following the one and only notorious enforcer Hunter Huxley; the grumpiest of grumps, who is an ice hockey player in need of a total image rebrand. A PR influencer is going to be that person who is going to make this happen, that is where we are introduced to Juliet Monroe who has known Hunter for as long as she can remember.
Juliet and Hunter enter into a fake engagement to try and save his reputation that he hasn't done so well to keep it clean, there is only problem about this fake relationship and that is will their love win over everything?
This book was really enjoyable, the story line is well written and the tropes that the book work and blend well together. The book was a fun, fast and addictive romance read that delivers not only humour to real you in but also some good tension.
The emotions through out this book were all spot on, the story had some unexpected love as well, but the love was pure and real. I found myself laughing through parts of this book, the banter kept me going and i really enjoyed reading their ever growing relationship.
Once again thank you to Vivian and BookSirens for giving me this opportunity to read this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this great start to the new series! The plot is very well written, brims with emotion, action and spice, and contains the following tropes:
- Sports romance - Hockey romance - Enemies to lovers - Fake engagement - Close/Forced proximity - Grumpy-Sunshine - Opposites attract - Bad Boy-Good Girl - He falls first - Touch her and die
I really liked the protagonists. Both are complex characters with troubled pasts and self-esteem issues. Hunter is a loner and chaotic hothead with serious problems controlling his anger, while Juliet is an ambitious, controlled heroine who wears her lipstick and stilettos like armor. The tension between them is great, and the chemistry between them crackles from the start. I enjoyed their verbal sparring, how she managed to rein in his explosive temper, and how both were able to see beyond each other's defenses.
When Juliet Monroe accompanies her friend and roommate to a hockey game, she witnesses her college nemesis and enforcer for the Seattle Havoc, Hunter Huxley, assaulting a fan. As an aspiring PR specialist, she proposes providing him with a fake fiancée to enhance his tarnished image. She never would have expected the team's management to want her for the position. Five months in a fake relationship to restore Hunter's reputation, and in return, the team helps her make a career breakthrough. Juliet is less than enthusiastic, as it means spending time in close proximity to the man who made her college life hell and has anger management issues. And after her toxic relationship with another hockey player, she doesn't want to let anyone get close to her, even though she soon realizes that Hunter is different than she expected...
Overall, a gripping enemies to lovers hockey romance with intriguing protagonists, great character development, heat and heart, which I am happy to recommend. I am already looking forward to the next installment.
I received a free ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.
OMG! DEAR #47, YOU’RE THE WORST is an enemies to lovers story (one of my favorite tropes) that is a brilliant and intoxicating romance that brings two people together in an interesting and unseemly manner. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page-turning story! I loved everything about this book. The characters. The angst. Forced proximity. The steam. The emotions—all were spot on. This is a story about a love so unexpected, a love so pure you can’t stop reading about. This story is fun with some witty banter. I found myself laughing at times, and at other times swooning over the very handsome and sexy Hunter Huxley. This is Hunter Huxley and Juliet Monroe’s story.
Hunter is a professional hockey player who is grumpy and has anger management issues. In order to clean up his image after his outburst of punching another player, the team hires Juliet Monroe, who is a well known PR consultant. Hunter is known to have a reputation of being arrogant and very hot-headed. But he can be very manipulative, charismatic, charming, and he definitely does not do committed relationships and fall in love. In order to fix his image, Hunter will do what is necessary for the team. The plan/solution—fake engagement! Now, Juliet and Hunter have to fake their relationship with the public, but can they fake behind closed doors? Despite their differences, the chemistry between Hunter and Juliet is undeniable as they are forced together under unfortunate circumstances. What started as fake is now starting to feel real for Juliet. What will Juliet do now? Does Hunter feel the same about her, or is he pretending because of the contract? There are several twists and turns within the story that will tempt the characters in ways they could have never envisioned. Vivian Wood has constructed an intriguing romance about love, forgiveness, and trust that will lure you into the wee hours and beyond that you will not be able to put this book down.
Juliet - has been working random jobs for awhile. She wants to be either PR firm. But all people seem to see with her is her boobs. No one seems to take her professionally seriously. She wants a shot to prove herself but no o e will give her a chance.
When Juliet states Hunter needs a ‘fake’ fiancée she doesn’t mean her. But she wants to please the hockey team and this could be a door in with them if she’s able to get Hunter to calm down and start behaving on and off the ice.
Hunter Huxley - plays professional hockey for a team in Washington State. His 2 brothers also play on the same team. Their dad died when they were younger. They are estranged from their mother. Who seemed to only care for Hunter and his hockey money growing up. Hunter went to college with Juliet and her ex boyfriend. They were in the same circles back in college but never really did anything together. Hunter always made it seem that he hated Juliet, always pushing her away. He would always state negative things about her to guys and teammates. But was it because he secretly liked her going through college?
Now that Juliet and Hunter are with the same NHL Hockey team, they are ‘seeing’ each other doing the whole ‘fake’ fiancée thing. But secretly Juliet seems to like Hunter. She calms him in a way no one else seems to be able to.
Is the bad boy of hockey going to turn over a new leaf? Is Hunter ready to make a change in his life to cut out the pain and the hurt he’s suffered from for so long??
This book was a bit on the long side. The author did a great job with keeping the storyline going throughout the book.
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest book review.
They knew each other from College. Juliette hating him for something that he said that cost her an Important Internship that she really wanted.
She ended up closer to his Enemy Patrick on the College Hockey Team because of it.
Roll on a few years later and they end up Fake Engaged because of something Juliette mentions in passing to her Roommate who happens to work for the Hockey Team that Hunter is now on. Both of them hating each other.
Juliette has serious Mammy issues due to the fact that her Mother want more for her than Juliette wants to do with regards to her Career. The fact that Juliette landed the PR job for the Hockey Team is not enough for her Mother. She wants her to go to Law School and become a Lawyer like herself. That is not a job that Juliette ever wants and fights her the whole time on it.
Hunter has serious Anger issues which is due to his Mother and the way she has treated him all his life. That woman is a serious bit of work as you will discover through out the book.
Also throw into the Equation that Juliette had only spilt up with Patrick a few months previous after Five years of being a lap dog for a Man who never treated her right.
The Chemistry between Juliette and Hunter is off the Charts! They have a real Love/Hate story. The passion between them just makes this Book a must read that you won't want to leave down.
They both needed each other in a way that is just fantastic to read and you are going to Love it!
This enemies-to -lovers, fake fiancé hockey romance is absolutely OUTSTANDING! A truly amazing and wonderful start of the Seattle Havoc Hockey series. Emotionally charged, spicy, and heartwarming, everything we want in a romance story. I was hooked from the start and couldn’t put this book down. Hunter and Juliet have a love-hate relationship that is filled with witty banter and sexual tension. The makings of an utterly pulse-pounding, entertaining and engaging story. After everything they have both went through with their ex’s falling for each other wasn’t something they anticipated. Hunter needs Juliet to clean up his image and Juliet agrees to help him even though he really hurt her in the past. Together they embark on this fake journey that leads to intense feelings and a strong connections. Hunter is the type of grumpy, handsome sexy book boy friend we all love and Juliet is the smart, joyful and endearing female character we enjoy. So if you’re looking for an amusing, tantalizing and interesting romance that has characters that will give all the feels with scorching intense chemistry and a storyline that is definitely captivating and highly fascinating you will be thoroughly delighted and satisfied with Hunter and Juliet’s beautiful and remarkable romance.
They have hated each other since college. Now they are fake engaged to change Hunter's public image after he punches a fan.Hunter has anger issues because of his mum.
Juliet has sworn off hockey players since her last relationship ended.Patrick was a peice of work, who destroyed her confidence.
Juliet and Hunter have history and she hates him. There are feelings she is starting to get toward Hunter, which she is trying to ignore.
Hunter has always thought of Juliet as off limits, but now as they are living together and with his ring on her finger,he is starting to look deeper into his feelings for Juliet. She seems to be the only person who can calm him down.
The more they learn about the other and eventually give into their chemistry, they start to fall in love.
The road to love is not easy as their enemies want them to fail and the social media posts don't help.
They get through all the issues together and get to their happily ever after.
I loved how they were protective of each other and got through all the good and bad times together.
A great read with lots of banter, arguments, friendships, spice, team banter and support, romance and a happily ever after.
I recieved an advanced review copy of this book for free via booksirens and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Emotional Fake Fiancé Hockey Romance This could finally be Juliet Monroe’s chance. An opportunity for career advancement, but can she fake an engagement with Hunter Huxley for five months to make Hunter look like a changed man who has found loved and settled down. He humiliated her in college and changed the trajectory of her career, of her entire life. He says she is high and mighty and holier than thou. Guys like Hunter get praised for rage. Girls like Juliet get told to smile more. She cannot stand him. Hunter does not want Juliet to know that he has monitored her since college. Why? That is unclear. The idea of getting close to her feels like walking straight into a trap. She’s too sharp, too smart, too everything he has never been good at dealing with. This s a well written enemies to lovers hockey romance that has betrayal, emotion, banter, steam, chemistry and so much more. Juliet and Hunter both have traumatic family relationships that affects their self worth and how they treat relationships. Their personal growth throughout is inspirational. Wonderful story of convenient lies that turn out to be so much more. I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
This book is another knockout for Vivian Wood. From the start to the finish, Juliet and Hunter’s enemies-to-lovers story is full of hot chemistry and tension and was impossible for me to put down. Their fake engagement is supposed to clean-up his image -- but Hunter might be a little more obsessed than he lets on and Juliet is coming off a relationship that wrecked her confidence. The emotions Wood builds around that setup are intense and hot.
Hunter sums it up from the beginning: "I've made a deal with the devil...and she wears red lipstick and heels sharp enough to sever a carotid artery"
-Hockey backdrop - gives you all the action and the always popular, teammate cameos -Friend's group - the girls' banter and loyalty is everything to Juliet -Sexual tension - push-pull drama that builds until they finally explode -Very Spicy - just the perfect amount to go along with the book intensity -Family drama - both characters have some serious family baggage to work thru
Hunter’s cocky charm and Juliet’s no-nonsense grit play off each other throughout. Wood nails the emotional stakes and the heat and doesn't overdo it, even with the longer book. Another win for hockey romance and one I would easily recommend.
I wanted to love this book because I’ve read other works by this author and loved them, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case this time. My true rating would be 2.5 stars but Goodreads doesn’t allow this.
I’ll start my review with what I did enjoy: both main characters had complicated relationships with their families and their own personal struggles and hardships. This made them feel more real and relatable. The character growth was admirable. I also liked the romance itself and the spice, both were written well and genuinely made me swoon. I always love an overprotective and possessive man. and Hunter Huxley embodies that perfectly.
However, I found it difficult to get into the story at first, and some parts of the story felt a bit repetitive. It was also marketed as an enemies to lovers book but it didn’t feel like a true enemies to lovers scenario to me. Another thing I noticed throughout the book was that many moments were told rather than shown. As a reader, I prefer when emotions and events are shown through the characters actions and dialogue, as it helps me connect more deeply with the story and characters.
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy (arc) of this book and all my opinions are honest and my own.
Dear #47, You’re The Worst is an emotional, slow burn enemies to lovers romance with a surprising amount of heart beneath all the sniping and tension. Hunter and Juliet have been at odds since college, when one careless comment from Hunter derailed Juliet’s dream internship. Years later, fate (and PR desperation) throws them back together—fake engaged, no less—to salvage Hunter’s reputation and keep him from being traded off his hockey team.
Forced proximity plus unresolved resentment is already a recipe for chaos, but watching them peel back each other’s layers is where the magic happens. As the walls come down, they start seeing the versions of each other no one else gets access to—and those “I hate you” feelings start looking a lot like something deeper.
I adored Hunter and Juliet together. Both of them are carrying so much under the surface—fear, insecurity, old wounds—and neither knows how to let someone in. But slowly, they become each other’s safe place. Their banter is sharp, their chemistry is electric, but it’s the emotional vulnerability between them that really hits.
This book is a fantastic start to the series, and the setup for Hunter’s brothers has me already impatient for their stories.
#47 You're the worst is a spicy hockey romance from Vivian Wood.
Juliet Monroe would rather drill her own root canal than fake an engagement to Hunter Huxley. But PR says it’s the only way to salvage his image after a string of headline-grabbing disasters. Now she’s stuck playing fiancée to the cockiest forward on the Seattle Havoc… and pretending not to fall for his smirky charm is getting harder by the second. Hunter isn’t used to hearing no. Especially not from the one woman who seems immune to him. He’s supposed to be a mess she cleans up. But she might be the one in trouble. Tropes: fake fiancée, enemies to lovers, image rehab, opposites attract, forced proximity
The author captivates from the first page. The chapters are well-structured and flow smoothly. He gets to know both main characters well, as each chapter presents everything from their perspective. Her writing style is fluid, making it a breeze to read.
I absolutely love this story. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. I can't wait to read more from her; she's definitely going on my list of favorites.
Juliet and Jessa, her roommate go to the local Hockey game. Where Juliet runs into Hunter Huxley. Who is nothing but extremely rude to her. Juliet and Hunter met in college. But Hunter acted like she just a stuck-up prude then. Even going as far as telling a reporter for the paper that. Not knowing he ruined her chance to be an intern for the paper. He also did not know she overheard every word he said to him. She has hated him ever since. When it is clear he needs some major PR clean up. Juliet tells Jessa he needs to adopt a kid or rescue a puppy. Or get a fake fiancé. Jessa tells management and they want Juliet to do it. Even offering her job as a PR consultant. So, against her better judgement. She accepts. But what happens when the masks come off? And they learn the other person is not who they thought they were. Loved it! Their story was well written. I absolutely loved how both main characters had a lot of personal growth! With their real-life complicated family issues. Also, how they acted like they did not like each other. They were very protective of each other from the start. I would recommend this to anyone who loves sports romances.
I had the absolute privilege of getting this book as an ARC in exchange for an review
"You're beautiful all the time, but like this...this is just for me"
5⭐️ 🏒 Enemies to Lovers 🏒 Fake fiancé 🏒 Hockey
Im just going to start out by saying this is the first book I've read by Vivian Woods and it was an grwat book to start out with.
Juliet's dream is to do PR and in order to get the job she dreams of she has to be Hunter's fake fiancé.
Hunter has some childhood trauma that makes him and aggressive, violent person. In order to save his career and stay on the team he has to agree to Juliet being his fake fiancé.
At the beginning of Hunter and Juliet they have hated each other since high school. I love the slow burn this book starts put with but once they break the tension all bets are off 🥵. The character development for both Juliet and Hunter was so well paced and the way Hunter changes throughout the book to be worthy of Juliet🤌🏼
I LOVED this book and cannot wait to read about Silias and Scout
Second chance fake engagement hockey romance? I'm in.
This was the first in a series and it was so good.
I was gifted this book as an ARC from BookSirens and the author.
The character development was great; the history between Juliet and Hunter from college and their tough relationships with their respective parents.
Juliet fights to do the job she wants; in PR for the professional hockey team, instead of appeasing her mother by going to law school.
Hunter and his 2 brothers dominate the ice together but their public betrayal from their former mom-ager left all three with various trauma coping. Hunter's just happens to be his anger.
When he finds himself in need of a PR makeover, Juliet is brought in by her roommate to pitch the idea of a fake engagement. Everyone reluctantly agrees and we watch their relationship go from hot enemies to fiery lovers.
The tension pops in a spicy way and it just goes from there.
There were some scenes that were repetitive and could have not been there but overall, the story, the banter, the wrap up, was a fun ride.
This was my first book from this author, and I can honestly say it is one of the best hockey romance novels I have read this year. I’m a bit of a sucker when it comes to fake relationship tropes, mainly because I know how it will end. What I never know is what will unfold to get there. Both Huxley and Juliet come with family drama - but vastly different. They do not like each other at all when their relationship starts, and their family dynamics do play a part in why they start and how they act towards each other. Well up until their feelings start to change that is I really enjoyed these two characters not only as a couple but individually as well. They both grew so much throughout this story, but what I took away most from their growth is that both realized they deserved better than how their family members treated them and by the end of the book, they both basically demanded it as well. After finishing this book and enjoying it as much as I did, I will definitely be reading whatever this author releases next.
Vivian has smashed another sports romance out the bag....again! Hunter Huxley, bad boy of the Havocs, the grumpiest of grumps needs a image rebrand and rising PR guru Juliet is just the lady for the job. A whole load of fake dating, forced proximity and loathing bring out the worst in these two. But the hate that Hunter has for Juliet is just a mask to hide his real feelings, having crushed on her since college. There's some real emotional trauma from both these guys and both believe they are too broken to deserve each other but surprisingly, its Hunter turns into the sap. When they finally give into their tensions, its ridiculously hot and steamy, Hunter absolutely knows exactly what Juliet needs in and out of the bedroom. Loved watching Juliet's confidence grow and build her relationship with the other girls. Can't wait to read more from the Havoc's!
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own
I thoroughly enjoyed Dear #47, You’re the Worst! Juliet and Hunter give you all the feels in this book! Juliet is trying to get her dream job going and when life hands her an opportunity that is hard to give up, she takes it. Even if that means faking it with her worst enemy from college. Hunter has an image issue and it means he needs to make some changes or his future isn’t going the way he wants it to. Hunter and Juliet have to figure out how to fake it and live with each other until their deal is up. Though the more time they spend together the more old feelings arise as well as pain that make their moments very awkward or intense. You never know what’s going to happen between these two and I loved every minute of their journey. Will their fake relationship stay fake or can they move on from the past and give it an actual chance? Don’t miss out on #47, you’ll hate but love him even more!
Huxley is a professional hockey player whose career is in jeopardy due to his inability to control his emotions. The only way to save his career is to show he has changed by presenting a fake fiancé. That sounds easy enough in theory until he finds out that Juliet is hired to be that person and the past they share is adversarial.
Juliet hasn’t forgotten what Huxley did and how it changed the direction of her life. She is still trying to find her footing personally and professionally so pretending to be his fiancé might just give her career the boost she needs even if it means working with a man she has come to despise.
The antagonism between Huxley and Juliet makes the story even more entertaining as we see those feelings develop into an attraction and love that neither saw coming. They both have tumultuous pasts when it comes to romance and family and haven’t received much support until it came from each other.
I really enjoyed this story - Hunter and Juliet go through a lot of personal growth during the novel. They have a loose history but Juliet goes from hating the guy to liking him, as the more time she spends with him, she starts to see glimpses of the real Hunter and begins to understand him and what makes him tick. Hunter is a closed book and keeps others away with his taciturn nature and his angry persona. Juliet had always been someone unattainable to him but, in spending more time with her, he begins to really see her - past the red lipstick, the high heels, and the perfect persona she projects. Both of them were broken people and I loved how they became each other's anchor.
It dropped half a star as I thought they kept circling unnecessarily back around to their doubts, when I thought they were becoming pretty established as a real couple. Apart from that, a fab story that was heartfelt with a good dose of spice!
She is out of a terrible relationship with an inconsiderate hockey player and trying to launch her business while working a job she can't wait to leave. Juliet is in need of a change. And she wants her personal business, in PR, to take off. Juliet witnesses a bad press conference with Hunter, someone she has had prickly interactions with since college, and believes she could have handled things better. She winds up getting hired to fix Hunter's image and they find themselves in a fake engagement to try to rehab said image. There is so much going on there that despite the fact that she has sworn off players and he believes he is not into relationships they find themselves both in free fall. In the end, they land in a good place together - but oh the journey there is twisty and they really make themselves work for what they wind up being glad to have with one another. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a slow-burning story centered around dealing with decisions and experiences from the past and choosing whether to let those things dictate how you live your future. Neither of the main characters is blessed with supportive parents. Both suffer from a lack of self-worth and think true happiness is for people other than themselves. The MMC, Hunter, loses his cool and starts fights very easily. The FMC, Juliet, is all about staying in control. It was fabulously entertaining watching their two very different personalities compete to win the upper hand against each other constantly. It is an enemies-to-lovers story, but they’ve each also secretly wanted to be with the other one for many years. This was a fun read, and I was constantly cheering and swooning inside every time Hunter fiercely protected and supported Juliet over and over.
