Citing the power of blogs as effective sales, marketing, and communications tools, a lighthearted guide for small businesses presents a brief history of blogs that makes predictions about their future potential, identifies eight qualities of a successful blog, and shares advice about blog software and trends. 20,000 first printing.
This book was published in 2006, and the information now is so outdated that the book is fit only for the rubbish bin. I bought it for 20cents second-hand, and needn't have bothered.
While the basic information the history of blogging is obviously still true, the examples about using blogs as a method of viral marketing are now very outdated. As far as I can see, this has now been replaced by Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and a host of other social networking sites. None of these even rate a mention in Blog Wild!, probably because this was published in 2006 and hasn't been updated since. The world has moved on, but Blog Wild! hasn't.
The other fault is that all the instruction is given for TypePad (because that's the platform the author uses and prefers), where I see Blogger and WordPress being used by more people these days.
The author has an engaging and easy-to-read style, but that doesn't make up for the fact tht time has rendered the content useless.
Blog Wild! is a super short book that intends to give business owners the very basics of becoming a blogger. The book is broken down into several short sections. There's not a whole lot in this book that you couldn't find out on the web. The content is skimpy at best (and I see through your large point font choice Mr. Wibbels)! Halfway through the book it focuses on creating your actual blog. It breaks down complete step by step instructions on the very basics but only focuses on the use of the host, "TypePad." The book did clarify the use of feeds for me though. And I liked how the book emphasized that all the content you blog could later be compiled into a book. So overall, 2 stars.
Blog wild is a short book on how to blog your business with success. It was a little helpful, I hesitate on that because it is overly outdated. I was looking for a blogging book with more inspiration. I would not recommend this book to anyone because of how outdated it is. I looked-up a couple of the links it provided and they were all down sites.
This book gave some good information but dealt mostly with pay-to-use sites. I was more interested in the free sites, which they mention, but don't go into a lot of detail about.
Rather dated. OK for someone with literally no posting experience anywhere but for anyone with any Facebook or twitter experience the step by step details will seem silly.
2006. It's been a few years and blogging is not the hip thing it once was, but the information is useful, particularly for anyone who is considering starting a blog.
The reality is that a successful internet presence for all but the largest companies requires something resembling a blog.
Be sure to search out more recent information if the topic hints at being stale. For instance, you might find Typepad is not your thing.
While many blogs, and books about blogging focus on personal blogs or how to make money blogging, this one was very helpful because it talks about how to use blogs to help your company be successful in connecting with customers and potential customers.
It's very short, very fast to read. Lots of practical content and filled with ideas to get you started using blogs -- both creating your own blog, and getting your company mentioned on other blogs.
