Incredible sci fi epic that was a breeze to get through. Can’t wait to pick up the next one and see where it all goes.

As important as the comics are from this segment of Geoff Johns’s run on Green Lantern, the overall reading experience feels less coherent than the previous volume.

I mean come on, when it comes to Geoff and GL the man just does not miss, and that goes for Tomasi as well with the GL corps. This compendium follows right after GL Rebirth and continues the amazing story and art work of its predecessor. We follow not only Hal, but the rest of the GL corps as they battle the Sinestro Corp in a giant universe wide and even earth bound big event involving the other DC hero’s of earth as we see some big enemies of the past come back to join Sinestro and his corps. As amazing as this big event and the following war for the light is as we see the birth of the other emotional spectrums like Rage, Hope, Compassion, Love, Greed and even Death it’s the stories in between, the smaller moments, like Guy and Kyle moving to OA and opening a bar on the planet, or Hal and John on earth solving earth bound crimes, it is these smaller stories and moments that stand out, not only do they strengthen the big epic event stories as we get to know these character both the big and small ones, therefore giving the events more weight, but it’s just some of the best story telling and each story big or small keeps you hooked and turning pages. Only small small nitpick is John Stewart still doesn’t have a ton to do here, but what is here with his guilt and determination is good. Overall a must read for any GL fan, especially if you’ve already read rebirth!

I haven't experienced this much heartbreak in a book since the hunger games trilogy, because Geoff Johns takes this rich and diverse cast of characters and puts them through the WRINGER. I do find Guy Gardner and Salaak more likable this time around, and it definitely feels less set-up heavy while still setting up what's about to be Blackest Night.
Real standout for me was Soranik Natu, and her development as she navigates her duty to the corps vs her Hippocratic oath. Every time she popped up on the page, I knew we were in for some peak writing.
Time to crack open that Blackest Night omnibus on my shelf.

A near perfect collection of Green Lantern stories. From the lead-up to The Sinestro Corps War, to the war itself, the Alpha Lanterns, Ringquest, Secret Origin, Rage of the Red Lanterns… so many amazing stories where the different aspects of the emotional spectrum manifest, and it is so thrilling to read. I only hate that I will have to wait until at least next year for the inevitable Blackest Night compendium…
