Death and virginity share an uncomfortable truth—everyone obsesses over losing them, but when the moment arrives, you're mostly mortified by the mess.
I was bred to be perfect.
Perfect body. Perfect blade. Perfect killer.
Raised inside a marble prison to serve the crown that made me, I am one of two surviving assassins from a program that used human girls like ingredients—measured, sharpened, and discarded. Now they’ve dressed me in silks, called me a gift, and sent me to marry the enemy king. My true mission? Slip a knife between his ribs and walk away smiling.
But the man I’m meant to kill isn’t what I expected.
He’s a guard. He’s a flirt. He’s maddeningly good at surviving every one of my assassination attempts. He also might be more than he claims. Fae. Fire-touched. Dangerous in a way that makes my bones ache and my instincts scream.
And the worst part?
He sees me.
Not the weapon. Not the mask. Me.
The more I try to carry out my orders, the more the lie starts unraveling. The court that raised me hid the truth of what I am. Of what he is. And when I finally learn who he really is, it’s too late.
Because the bond has already begun to form.
Because the dagger meant to kill him chose me first.
And because death was never the thing I feared losing most.
Perfect for fans of fantasy romance with Fae kings, deadly assassins, and dangerous magic.
This book had me absolutely hooked from the very first page! It’s got everything I love in a spicy fantasy romance—magic, tension, sarcasm, and of course that delicious fated mates pull. The dynamic between the leads is pure chaos in the best way: he can literally feel her emotions, which makes every snarky quip and sarcastic jab even more charged. The banter? Sharp enough to cut glass. The tension? Off the charts.
And then—plot twist—she was sent to kill him. Yep, the man she’s tied to by fate, the one who drives her crazy in every sense of the word. Cue a perfect storm of longing, betrayal, and “do I want to kiss you or set you on fire?” Oh, and speaking of fire—there’s fire magic, ice magic, and enough raw power flying around to make every confrontation feel explosive.
I adored the hidden identity angle, too. Watching them unravel each other’s secrets while trying not to give in to their chemistry was chef’s kiss. The spice hit exactly when it needed to, perfectly balancing all that slow-burn tension. If you love a mix of danger, magic, fated mates, and banter so good it’ll make you grin—this one’s a must-read!
I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed this book. The beginning was okay I really should have dnf'd when I realized that the banter was not for me. The whole book was just banter between three characters with a simple plot that could have been resolved on 150 pages. Felt like an episode of Gilmore girls.
It was a cool story and a quick read but definitely felt unfinished. Some scenes that had no ending and went straight into a new scene. Some lines that are duplicated from one chapter to the next.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2 rounded up to 5 stars Spice level: 🌶️🌶️
I'm not gonna lie, this book could have done with a beta reader and a bit more editing, there are some plot points which could have been fleshed out a bit more and there's a bit of repatition, however the banter between Evolet & Leo is everything, I was smirking from their very first encounter, don't get me started on their vows, absolutely hilarious, while Evolet's interactions with the saved children & Askhe had me tearing up. I was fully invested in the story and immediately wanted to read it all over again as soon as I was finished.
