A family reunion, a deadly scoop, and secrets sharper than my fangs…Life as a vampire journalist was finally settling down. I had my dream job at The Oracle, a loyal (if slobbery) pup, and a maybe-relationship that didn’t involve murder investigations.

Then my long-lost mother crashes back into my life with a revelation that rewrites everything I thought I knew about my family…

Before I can process the truth, another story lands on my desk, pulling me into a dangerous game of demon bargains, shifting alliances, and bodies piling up faster than I can chase the leads.

Now it’s not just my career on the line; it’s my heart, my friends, and possibly every paranormal on the island. But if there’s one thing I know.

I’m Elodie Evergreen. I chase the truth, even when it has claws.

Perfect for fans of snarky heroines, supernatural mysteries, and slow-burn romance, Demons and Deadlines delivers sharp twists, found-family feels, and one tenacious vampire who refuses to back down.

Another captivating whopper I immersed myself in. Normal is definitely not the norm in Ravens Hollow, with demon possession and the threatening love triangle spinning in my brain. Should I keep rooting for Whip or hope for more than friendship with Alex. Then there's the shocker we were left with in the previous book. The true identity of Amira rocked Elodie's world. She couldn't see how Amira could willingly become a vampire and desert her growing up. Her anger spiraled to the point where she wanted no contact, not see her. Was Amira instrumental in the start of the Guardians? Then there's the uncharacteristic behavior of Flo and Mick, the almost riot at the council meeting which brings Elodie's detective streak to bloodhound status. So many questions, just as 1 piece of the puzzle slots in, another curve ball or two hits. The end had me yelling in frustration loudly as it was quite a cliffhanger of note. So many possibilities are flirting around in my mind. Dear Ella please give us the next book asap!

Sorry I need to vent.

I really don't get it.... the FMC is supposed to be this amazing fantastic intelligent investigative journalist.
And from one book to the other it feels like she's getting more and more stupide, and naïve and immature.
The whole story revolves around this weird shitty love triangles...
But the worst is Elodie's behaviour toward her friends, colleagues. She's self centered urg.
Even as a journalist, she's obsessed with her desire to have THE scoop. But she's just throwing tantrums
WHAT HAPPENED SERIOUSLY IN THIS BOOK.

spoilers
the end does give new hope. maybe her irritating behaviour will be explained!
I do have high hopes for the next volume! because I did like the 3 previous books.
I really hope she's been magicked and that's why she's such a toad.

I couldn't start this book fast enough, as soon as I saw it land, I shut down everything to read it. There wasn't even a debate, internal or otherwise, I just had to and not only because I've loved the previous books but because of the ending in the last one....I needed answers and I sure as heck got them! Or some answers...

Straight in where we left off, the tension so thick one would need a knife to sever it, I felt every emotional turmoil Elodie did, Ms Stone got the angst, anger, disbelief spot on and boy did my estimation of Alex skyrocket! What an incredibly sympathetic and supportive friend he is. But Elodie's interest lies elsewhere, in Whip, the town's Chief Inspector and hells, he's exactly as Elodie describes him, "He was the most beautiful man. Dark, brooding and chiseled" and things are really good between him and Elodie. I love how caring and gentle he is. Everyone loves Whip, but blow me down if the author isn't trying to sidetrack me with well placed concern, so red flags are popping up, bells are ringing and I'm in a complete tizzy! Things are going so well for Elodie, she's settling in to her job and the town, she spent a whole weekend being pampered by Whip but, of course, Ms Stone doesn't allow us to be complacent, oh no, she whisks things up so I'm looking through a veil so thick I couldn't see through! The whole triangle thing, was and wasn't a triangle, the way the author convoluted it, I was hard pressed as to WHO I wanted to succeed.

With characters like these, distinct and diverse, the portrait Ms Stone painted was vivid and believable. I love Elodie, her natural inquisitive nature is a part of her, she's a bit of a rule breaker because once she sets her mind on something, wild horses won't keep her away. And her powers of perception never let her down, mostly. Her attraction to Whip is so cool and toe curling, and I loved seeing respectful and supportive Whip. Although, he's a tad too overprotective, his warmth and genuine affection is very awww inducing. But so is Alex...see? Conundrum ...I enjoyed all the characters, Chloe, an effervescent delight, I giggle everytime she opens her mouth, it's like a machine gun, spewing a barrage of words. And dear heavens is Josephina awesome! She might be the resident ghost but she's got so much sass and spunk, it's easy to forget she's not really alive. Which is precisely WHAT this author does, she makes all the characters so relatable and real, heck, even Pongo, who's growing at a rate of knots! He's the bestest, smartest dog ever!

Elodie has so much on her plate, personal and otherwise. She has a burning need to solve what is making some behave out of character, she has the Whip and Alex confusion doing it's rounds in her head, she has to face her past...I honestly felt as conflicted as she. Confusion, mystery, secrets, even demons, all come together in a round about way, that when it did, it hit me square in the face! Ms Stone's descriptive, emotionally charged prose, the OMG plot and action, shows the realism of second chances, found family and of healing ones psychi, of vulnerability and the flaws that make up a full person. A real person. All through these incredibly riveting characters.

That ending? Well heck! All I was thinking was "no she didn't" but she so did... Ms Stone sure got my jaw to smash down on the floor! Now it's with major anxiety I await the next book...

Demons and Deadlines is the third book in the Raven's Hollow series by Ella Stone (actually the 4th as there is a prequel, Bylines and Bloodsuckers). This series follows investigative journalist Elodie Evergreen as she comes to terms with her new life as a vampire and her new home in a small supernatural town off the coast of the United States, far from her home in London. As usual, mysterious events seem to follow Elodie and she is sure a demon is at fault.

What I liked about this book - Elodie is a headstrong and whip smart leading lady who is struggling with unresolved issues from her past. She is trying to make a place for herself and build a new life with new friends in Ravens Hollow. The townspeople are great supporting characters who are nicely drawn out in the books and quickly grew on me. Her boyfriend Whip is a super nice guy who dotes on Ellie and is almost too good to be true. The action is nicely paced and makes the book a quick read.

What I didn't like about this book (and the series) is the geographic confusion. In the prequel, she goes to live near Miami on a small island off the east coast. But over the course of the books, the island apparently shifts and is now off the west coast. Even within the island, a community is stated to be on the western side of the island looking out to sea, but the views from the windows are stated to view the mainland, so the house and community would have to be on the east coast of the island. Very confusing and it kept throwing me out of the story to try to resolve the inconsistencies in my mind. However, I was a cartographer early in my career path, so my mind draws maps of locales. These points may not bug everyone like they bugged me. (Also, the time differences are all calculated wrong for the West Coast to London, which also bugged me when she was calling home.)

I also found the ending a bit unsatisfying, as the demon mystery sort of resolved itself without Elodie because she was unconscious. I felt like it was like "ok, done with that, now on to the big twist and the cliffhanger". I would have liked to see her involved in the takedown and capture.

Still and all, this book is a fun read and I definitely enjoyed it. I recommend the series to all paranormal romance and cosy mystery lovers.

I read an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

**ARC Reader/Listener, all opinions are my own!**

Elodie is a kick-butt journalist with a knack for getting to the bottom of a story. For years, she worked shoulder-to-shoulder with her best friend and editor, Donna, who always supported her and encouraged her to follow her leads. Or she did before she arranged for Elodie to ship off to the US to the small island town of Raven’s Hollow.

Journalism is Elodie’s lifeblood; it’s where she gets her kicks. No need for Route 66! And with her ex-fiancé left back on the British Isles, it’s a whole new world for this fledgling vamp, she’s going to be getting her kicks all over the island.

When attacks on property and people begin to happen with the perpetrators having no recollection of the incident, things start smelling funny… is that brimstone?! Someone’s been spreading a demon possession around Raven’s Hollow! Alongside her new bestest boi, Pongo the wonder-pup, who keeps…on…growing… and despite the wishes of the Island’s Chief Inspector of Police, total hottie and Elodie’s boyfriend, Whip (so much for swearing off men), Elodie’s on the case, ready to break another story in her new life on Raven’s Hollow! I won’t even spoil the mega-twist!

“Demons and Deadlines” is the third novel of the new “Raven’s Hollow Investigation” series by author Ella Stone. It’s the first solo series of hers that I’ve been a part of since the beginning, and I can’t WAIT for the next book! Having enjoyed her work in partnership with Heather G. Harris on the “Witchlight Magical Mysteries” series, I was confident it was going to be good, but man-oh-man did my expectations undersell the reality. I give this a very confident 10/10 and highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a strong female lead over the age of 20 with a career, a solid head on their shoulders, and a curiosity that just won’t stop. This has the makings of a Dresden-esque series, if I do say so myself!

Elodie has just had a bomb dropped on and she has found her mother after all these years. As if that wasn't enough to deal with, now there a possible demon possessing the residents and making them act very out of character. She throws herself into this case to keep her mind off her hurt and anger at her mother. But she also has to add in the complication of Alex who seems to still want to be more than friends even though she is dating Whip and poor Elodie can't tell up from down at times. Can she solve the case and confront her mother while keeping herself sane?
Elodie is just as determined in this book as the first to solve this new case. She is also finally realizing she wants to be boyfriend/girlfriend with Whip and make their relationship public. Whip is seemingly the perfect guy and is always there for her, esp when she is dealing with her mom drama. And even though she was a bit harsh with Alex, he has still been there, even helping when Pongo was sick. I am not a fan of the love triangle scenario, so during the book I was kind of like "ok make up your mind." But after finishing I am sure there is a purpose for it! Pongo is the most adorable animal sidekick ever and there was a bit where I was worried for him too and I still think there is more to him than meets the eye, but only time will tell.
This book was not as action packed as the previous books, but there was a lot of getting to know Elodie more. We get a little bit of background from Amira as well. While there is still a case to solve, there is more focus on what goes on in her mind and a buildup of her relationship with Whip. And I think there are lots of subtle clues that I was missing along the way until the very end of the book. And what a surprise ending that was!!! I mean WOW! My only complaint is that I now have to wait to see what happens next!

I'm gobsmacked. Where is this story going??? Just when I thought I was securely and comfortably entrenched in this world and knew the characters well, the author has thrown me for a loop! And isn't that fantastic?!!! To not be travelling a straight road but have bumps, corners and emergency stops that can give a story that extra level of satisfaction.

There is so much emotion in this book. Moods are elevated, drama is heightened and the pacing is set at accelerate. The mystery arc is once again enthralling, with a resolution I didn't see. Got to love it when an author can sneak the 'villain' through the pages, only revealing their face at the last moment.

And the romance - wow. Or is it??? This is a single character POV, so I only know what Elodie knows but in this book the author is raising red flags, muddying the waters and voicing valued characters' opinions openly. I just need the next book now, to hopefully give me some clarity! Thank goodness there's a dog because they always love unconditionally and can be counted on.

The found family vibe is still strong and I love that. My favourite trope! Another thing I loved was Elodie's grit. Her drive to succeed in her career and new life is solid and backed by her determination and resourcefulness.

There was a lot happening in this book and some of it has been left tantalisingly open-ended. I will be on the edge of my seat until the next installment in Elodie's story is released.

I really enjoyed this latest book in this series following the exploits of Elodie Evergreen, vampire and investigative journalist. She is now happily settled in Raven's Hollow, with a job she loves, working with a great group of people, a budding relationship with the Chief Inspector of the town, a new group of friends and her beloved pup Pongo as well.

When people start acting completely out of character but with no recollection of what they had done, Elodie starts to investigate, but there does not seem to be any links between any of the first three victims. As hard as Elodie looks, there's still something missing, something that she just cannot work out.

And then there's the issue of her mother, which was sprung upon us at the end of the previous book, Hexes and Headlines. Elodie is simply torn about how she feels about this situation - can she bring herself to speak to her mother after all this time? Will she ever be able to forgive her? Will they ever be able to have a positive relationship? More and more questions....

I loved the idea of the demon possession, but was as perplexed as Elodie was until the end. I did feel the ending of the demon part was over too quickly, with like 10 minutes reading time left! But the cliffhanger ending just threw me - what on earth is going on now?! How will everything change? Why???? I can't say much more without giving it all away!

Can't wait for the next book to come out in June now and find out what is going to happen next!

Things are getting very intense in Ravens Hollow, with people getting VERY angry and acting out of character, but with no idea why. Could there be a demon on the loose causing havoc? Naturally Elodie is keen to investigate, but needs to be careful not to get too involved!

Elodie is also still coming to terms with finding out that Amira is her mother, which she discovered at the end of the last book. She doesn’t understand how or why her mother became a vampire and left her daughter behind…and doesn’t know if she is willing to let her explain.

People are also surprised at her involvement with Whip and suggesting she doesn’t rush into things with him. Is there any reason for her to question a relationship with him? Not forgetting Alex, who seems to always be there for Elodie when needed.

Naturally, Pongo is the real star of the show, keeping you entertained with his antics, as well as giving some cause for concern. Who couldn’t help but love him?

There is plenty to keep you guessing and intrigued, making this a real page turner that will keep you sitting up till late to find out what happens, only to be faced with a real humdinger of a cliff hanger ending! I NEED to know what happens next!

good

WARNING! Cliffhanger! Ok it’s more of a hook than a hanger, but it’s definitely traumatic, and rates about a 4/5 on my trauma scale (which is to say lives aren’t in the balance, but life may be changing!)

When people start acting out of character in Ravens Hollow, Elodie senses and new story and starts to investigate.

She has a few issues though, there’s the family issues, and her relationship with Whip; then there’s issues with some friends, her pup… life is certainly not boring for the recently sired vampire.!

Things are heating up in Ravens Hollow. Firstly, there is a pretty huge love triangle thing going on. Being that it’s my least favourite trope, it didn’t thrill me; not to mention that there definitely seems to be something hinky going on there (the extra chapter didn’t give me hope).

There is also some extra family drama for Elodie, and we still don’t have any answers about her unusual abilities. On top of it all, I’m pretty sure Pongo is a familiar, and not just a pet!

All in all, this was a very entertaining book, with an engrossing ongoing story, and a cast of intriguing characters (some I’m not sure I like very much any more!).

If you’re a fan of urban fantasy, contemporary fantasy, and fantasy mystery series, then you’ll probably enjoy this book.

Wow, another great book! I loved it.
Elodie is settling into her life in Ravens Hollow, great job, great boyfriend and great dog. But of course, things aren’t so simple.
Starting out with the discovery (in the last book) that Elodie’s mother is still alive as a vampire – a lot of unresolved problems there.
Then there are a few instances of people doing unusual and violent things without remembering, it is suspected that there is some demon influence.
This book has a great little mystery of finding what’s causing the loss of memory incidents, it also has the coming together of all the friends, learning more about them.
There is also the conflict Elodie is having about her mother and the confusion she sometimes feels about her relationships with both Whip and Alex.
A lot happens in this book and it makes for a fabulous story.
And of course, you can’t forget Pongo – I’d love for my dog to do buttons and behave as good as Pongo does.
But to top it off – this book ends on a cliffhanger and what a cliffhanger it is. I hope the next book is out soon.

Although this was enjoyable to read, I had trouble giving consistent attention to it. Whether that’s my own personal issue or because of the writing, I’m not sure.

I really liked the character of Elodie. She’s emotionally strong, very smart, and knows her own mind. I also liked the tension between Elodie and Whip, one of the MMCs, and Alex, another male character.

What I didn’t like as much was how this ended. My issue is not so much with the ending being a cliffhanger, but that I guess I was expecting more exposition after the big discovery was made and before the overall story wrapped up.

I have to be transparent and say that I have not read the previous books in the series, so maybe my issues are stemming from not having been familiar with the rhythm of the writing or up to date with everything that happened prior to this installment— none of which are the fault of the author. As a standalone, this - as I said at the start of my review- was enjoyable to read.

Deadlines by Ella Stone
This one got neglected in my KU library while I mood-read through different books and formats. It’s part of a series I had already started but forgot about for a bit, and this installment really leans into the consequences and fallout from the previous books.
Elodie seems firmly planted in what I suspect is a love triangle. Everyone views Alex as the loyal Labrador-like best friend and coworker, while she’s chosen Whip—the police chief siren—but I still have lingering suspicions about her ever-faithful dog being far more than he appears. Alongside the romance tension, Elodie tracks down the mom who abandoned her and deals with the ripple effects of pack politics following the previous book’s trial. Despite the time gap since I last read the series, I was able to follow the story easily. Overall, this was a nice low-stakes, recuperating read that comfortably moves the series forwards.

The story continues! Demons and Deadlines felt a bit different from previous books - I think it feels more personal and character driven than action-packed. There’s also the mystery of the “demon” in Raven’s Hollow and what it’s doing to the people who don’t remember anything happening. Elodie, our FMC, has her worries and her foibles, including a mishap with our favourite canine companion; then there’s a continuation of the events at the end of the previous book, centred around a certain person from her past. The ending, though? That took a sinister and abrupt turn. I can only admit that as soon as I saw some of the language surrounding Elodie's new relationship, I should have known that something was coming.

Nothing is as it seems in Raven’s Hollow, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next!

In book three journalist Elodie Evergreen is settling into Ravens Hollow after just finding out her long lost mother was also turned into a vampire. While Elodie and Whip are starting out their budding relationship, the town is overrun with demonic possession and anger issues. Will Elodie still have a chance with the relationship with her mother or will Whip end them both before they get the chance?

What a cliffhanger! I kept trying to get more pages but I guess I’ll have to await the next one. Pongo has much better instincts than Elodie and she should listen to her pup! I have own theories about how Pongo gets in trouble but I’ll have to wait and see what pans out from the next one. Honestly I love these stories and feel emotionally invested and can’t wait for the next one!

This series is getting better with each new book.

Another intriguing mystery for Elodie to get to the bottom of, which she does with her trademark determination and inquisitiveness. All against a backdrop of her developing romance with the local police chief and her deepening relationships with the other members of her work and wider community. There are also some significant and satisfying developments with one character following on from the cliff hanger at the end of the last book.

Ella Stone's writing style brings all the characters and the locations to life so you can loose yourself in the story. Well worth reading especially if you love a cute, mischievous and intelligent canine side kick.

This book continues on with the surprise ending of the last book. While Elodie is coming to terms with who has entered her life there is a string of incidents. Being her journalistic self she chases down the answers to solve what’s going on. She also has to contend with the dynamic between her, Whip, and Alex. It gets complicated. There was so much going on in this book and it kept me engaged to the story. The greater storyline gets a bit clearer too.

If you are looking for a flattery with an exciting plot this is for you. This also has relationship dynamics that bring the drama. I think this is a series worth checking out.

I absolutely love this series so far! The characters are well developed and their relationships feel genuine, both the friendships and the romantic ones. I love the world of Raven's Hollow. The author has done a really good job of giving us enough detail to be immersed without drowning in unnecessary info. Throughout the series we've gotten to learn along with Elodie. The story in Demons & Deadlines is just as interesting as I've come to expect, with twists and turns to keep us guessing. And as with the previous book, the ending leaves me begging for the next book. I highly recommend this book, but be sure to start at the beginning of the series.

Pongo steals the show and is awesome and everything. But, much as I love the doggo, Author Stone manages to overshadow him with a cracking good read.

Picking up where the last book left off, the story continues at a rollicking pace. Watching the main character balance all her rules was impressive. Seeing more about all of the characters, even the ones I don’t like, made it all the more impressive. The story moved quickly, the character characters are engaging (or good to hiss at) and that ending…. Must have more. Please. Each book brings us deeper into the engaging and immersive world Author Stone created.

This was an excellent part 3 of this series!! Several twists and turns in this adventure! When Elodie’s mother’s identity gets divulged, Elodie’s emotions get scattered all over the place. She struggles with the knowledge of how her mother was turned into a vampire and the reasoning for disguising herself along with The Guardians possible involvement and danger it could mean for Elodie’s safety. There’s still that jealousy friction between Elodie’s boyfriend, Whip, and her good friend Alex. Things get stirred up when Pongo gets sick and requires the use of a veterinary, who happens to be an ex-girlfriend!!

Since Elodie arrived in Ravens Hollow, it’s been one thing after another. This time, a shop is broken into but it’s more than it seems…

Everyone seems to be pushing Elodie to reconsider rushing into a relationship with Whip. She’s trying to figure out her relationship with her mother, learning more about the world that she’s been thrown into.
I love her friendships and relationships with the other staff at the Oracle, and how by now the readers are really starting to get a feel for the town.

This story didn’t seem to resolve as nicely as the previous books; while we figured out the shop situation, the larger issue is still at play. AND THE END. Talk about a cliff hanger.

I am loving this series! With each addition the story just draws you in more and more to this fangtastic little supernatural town and its incredible inhabitants. Elodie is still finding her feet and yet has had the bombshell of a lifetime dropped on her, that her mother is alive, is a vampire and is living in the same town! Say what?? Then we have another mystery to be solved, an off the charts romance with the local chief of police and and ending that leaves you shouting out loud! Snark, sass, humour, a little darkness and a whole lotta fun, this is exciting and captivating and I cannot wait to read more!

There are times when I like Elodie's character. She's driven and thoughtful, cares about others and just wants to be liked. However, there are times when I really dislike it. She's stuck in her head - alot. There are more times than not that some self-awareness is just off the table. The "investigative reporter" schtick is also extremely tiring. At least she didn't go tromping thru the woods to find the "ring". There are a number of moving parts in this one and some are quite emotional. A bit of foreshadowing didn't make the final chapter as much of a surprise as it could have been. Heavy hook in the end so we'll have to read book 4 to see how it all plays out.

Suspense, drama, love, anger are all in this book! Elodie is starting to fit in and make friends but her long lost mother has been “found” and there is lots of anger on Elodie’s part. Actually lots of people seem to be angry and it’s all due to a demon. There is still a question on whether Whip or Alex is the best match for her and you start to question are either of them the source the Guardian’s mentioned. Pongo is so smart and growing by leaps and bounds. From beginning to end this book keeps you on the edge of your seat!

I was so darn excited to read this, the next book in this series, that I actually pouted because I couldn’t get to it right away. This latest had Elodie trying to deal with the appearance of her mother while also trying to figure out what is happening to people throughout the community. I really love the characters in this series, and I am very captivated by the universe. I am hoping this series lasts for a long time, and this book reinforces that feeling. Well-written, fun, and wonderful characters make this book a wild, engaging, and interesting good time. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Oh my where do I start? A great addition to this cosy urban supernatural series where the journalist Elodie doesn’t know how to stop herself from playing detective. In this book people are seemingly acting out of character with no memories after and Elodie is keen to identify the cause. Alongside this she’s reeling from the reemergence of her long lost mother and suddenly there are red flags everywhere in her too hot too fast relationship. Is all as it seems with Elodie and her beau? We need to wait for the next instalment to get more answers and finally see the full picture!

I loved the latest story of Elodie’s life! I read this book in just a few hours and it was amazing. However, realistically, I would give it 4.75 stars if possible. Simply because of the way the antagonist was dealt with. I love how her relationship with Alex grows in friendship and seeing Chloe and Dylan become closer. Don’t even get me started on Whip! That man can wait as many red flags as he wants. However, the end of the book left me flabbergasted! I do not want to throw out any spoilers, but I will say I wanted to throw it at the wall for a bit. 🤣

Wowee, what an emotional rollercoaster we are on!

This picks up from where things were left in the last book. Jumping straight back in with both feet.

We learn all about Elodie’s mum! Tension is rising between Whip and Alex and poor Pongo is sick! To compound matters there is more shenanigans going on with the residents of the island and there appears to be anger in the air.

This book like the previous one was wonderful! Honestly, just had to read it in one sitting. I have to get my hands on the next book ASAP because that ending…..

What a fun addition to this fantastic series I do like Elodie as the FMC. She is a caring friend, while being gritty and dogged in her pursuit of the next story. This story picks up right where we leave off in book 2 and the action doesn’t stop. I have to admit that Whip is now giving me weird vibes and I am actively rooting for Alex at this point. The side characters in this story bring such fun and depth to the overall story. Most of them could have their own series. This one ends on another cliffy, so I am on pins and needles while waiting to see what happens next.

good

The story seemed to get better and better but this book unfortunately ended on a cliffhanger. The FMC is chasing a story about people on the island all of a sudden acting strangely, and it all started with a break in at a person store. I liked the mystery of trying to figure out where the demon came from. The FMC is also learned about her mother and is Trying to decide whether she wants to have anything to do with her or not. She’s really not sure what to do with her maybe boyfriend and Alex. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.
