The major issues of adolescence are covered in this quaintly illustrated handbook, induding such critical information as how to plan a party, dating do's and don'ts, and the joys of making punch, sure to appeal to nostalgic baby boomers or anyone yearning for a return to "the good old days."
I adore this book, and it only takes a glance to know why:
* Outdated advice on dating, petting, telephoning and more.
* Tons of colorful pictures and illustrations that are as hokey as they are fun.
* Super corny headers for every section such as "Right Eating . . . Keeps you Swingin'!"
* Hypothetical examples with charming names, such as "Herby Hotrock" and "Eager Edgar."
My personal favorite page is on 43 (so if you buy it, immediately turn there). The pacing and soundness of the advice is wonderfully inconsistent. It's a fun read for sleepovers or just to share. When I was in high school, I got a good run with this book. It's an easy conversation starter: there's nothing like a teen advice book from 1966.
Some of these tips may be quaintly outdated, but overall it gives straightforward good sense that is still highly relevant! I really wish they someone had handed me something like this when I was growing up. (there was no useful advice on the making of jell-o molds though...)
