Jay is a stalker plain and simple. He begins stalking a stripper named Nova at his local club, after becoming a little more than obsessed. He watches her dance every night she works, hypnotized by her moves and her presence. He studies her habits, what she eats and where she lives.
One night Jay decides his wait for Nova to notice him is over. He needs her to himself and he needs her now. Jay kidnaps her after a brutal incident between himself and her. The incident leave Nova broken and dead. Jay does everything in his power to make sure his star doesn’t leave him. She lights his night and he refuses to let that light die with her body.
In a world where technology has advanced and people are now modding their body with metal and electronics he does exactly that with Nova to bring her back to life in a gruesome act of violence. Replacing limbs and organs with metal and rubber. He turns Nova into a cyborg against her will with the intention of keeping her alive and prisoner in his home.
As she awakens her world is turned upside down. She is a monster. She is not human anymore. She is a cyborg. She doesn’t understand her body and getting her bearings is harder than she would like. Will Nova be stuck in Jays prison forever or will she escape?
This book had me hooked from the first few pages. Lorien has a way of sucking you in and not letting you go. This retelling of Frankenstein was insane and sad. There isn’t a book that Lorien writes in the future that I won’t snatch up the minute it’s available. She is a superb writer and I love how elegantly she writes beautiful messed up books!
Review for Mechanical A Frankenstein retelling. I read a few descriptions and reviews for this book and I kept coming across the term “Cyberpunk”. Cyber seems to be a term that resonates with the 21st century. The term “punk goes back to the early seventies with the Sex Pistols and my personal favorites The Ramones. So with that being said and acknowledged I saw this book as a combination of the Frankenstein factor and Blade Runner, which I saw at the theater when it first premiered. How could anyone not love Nova and how could anyone not completely loathe Jay. It’s seems Nova led a simple sort of life in futuristic L.A. Work, hit the food carts and walk home. By the way she was an exotic dancer and from what was revealed a very good one. Cyber world came in handy when it came to giving her tips. Now Jay is a Swedish auto mechanic and from what was revealed a very good one. I’m certain he pulled in the revenue. It seems Nova became his obsession so in order to possess her he hand to make her perfect by making her the bionic woman with enhancements not standard with most women. He hoped she would fall in love with him and spend a lifetime fixing cars and living in a an attached shitty apartment. This was definitely not on Nova’s list of dreams and aspirations. It all comes to climactic and violent moment in the strip/dance club. So you really should read this “somewhat” erotic and very exciting novel. I throughly enjoyed it.
This book was crazy!! A complete rollercoaster 🎢 ride!! Each time i was guessing something, it all turned out wrong!
Firstly, Jay... the way the author has written him 🤌 All that handsomeness for what reason😭😭😭 A Total phycho path... his way of showing love was, very different and just crazy...
Then there's Nova. I love how she stood up for herself, and how she didn't give up until she found the truth and didn't fall for Jay's trap. I loved her willpower to fight for a better life for herself and how she didn't bend down to what Jay wanted for her and broke the shackles he had around her. She is such an inspiring character!! 👏🎉🎉🙌🙌🤌🤌😭🫶🫶 Amazing character development!!!
Overall, I totally recommend this to you if you love Twists, betrayal, dark obsession, stalker, The thing you created will inevitably be your doom, Revenge.
(sorry for my broken English it's currently 3:20 am as i write this review.)
I just finished reading this incredible cyberpunk retelling of Frankenstein, and I have to say, it absolutely blew me away. Honestly, I’m not usually big on cyberpunk, but I completely devoured this book. Lorien really knows how to create a captivating world and develop characters that stick with you.
Her writing style is so vivid; it felt like I was right there in the middle of the action, almost like I was watching a movie unfold. The twists were both surprising and exciting, keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It’s one of those reads that you can't put down!
I highly recommend adding this to your TBR list when it comes out on July 31st. It’s definitely worth the read! You can find it on the Zon.... Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one!
This book was not what I expected it to be, but I was pleasantly surprised. I wish Nova had been a bit more fleshed out since we don’t really get to know her before jumping into the main issue of the story. Jay on the other had, immediately disliked him, and that did not change at all. When Nova got attacked my first thought was it had to be him, then with his pov I was like oh maybe he’s just a creep, then Nova’s pov came back and I was proven right the first time which is some great writing. Overall even though it’s a quick read I feel it’s worth the couple hours that it’ll take to read it.

This book was definitely one that I enjoyed as well as wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next. The plot is amazing and when the spice is there it’s good. There is a lot of plot twists and turns that you don’t see coming and is definitely worth the read especially if you like bride of Frankenstein type of vibes but add Robot parts instead. Nova and jay are a couple that you do fall in love with but then when things come to light Nova turns into being a baddie and not letting someone hold her back.
I heard this was a reimagining of Frankenstein and said, “Say no more.” This updated, futuristic version blew me away! The cyberpunk mechanical setting was even more captivating than I expected. The book was really well written and a fun read overall. I was hooked from the very beginning and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I loved this retellings are my jam! I love them and I wasn’t sure what to expect when I heard steampunk but wow it was fantastic! The way this story was written pulled me in pretty quickly and after that I couldn’t put it down! Fantastic read!
as always, lorien had me on the edge of my seat with this story!! she’s amazing at curating worlds and throwing in an evil twist when you least expect it!! 10/10 erotic horror novel (lorien is the queen of the genre👑). i can’t wait to see what else she writes! brava🙌🏻
