An audiobook adaptation of the Oscar-winning animated short film inspired by the song by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono's iconic anti-war anthem "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" inspired an Academy Award–winning animated short. Now the team behind the film has created an unforgettable picture book, adapted for audio, to carry on this timeless message of peace.
So this is Christmas. Another year over. A new war just begun.
Julia, a carrier pigeon, delivers messages to the battlefield. But she also has a secret mission. Even though the Red Jackets and the Great Coats are at war, Julia helps the soldiers on both sides play a special game to bring each other some joy during the holiday season.
Inspired by one of the most important songs of the twentieth century and the film that carried on its legacy, War Is Over! is a stirring reminder of the human connection that binds us all, even during the most divisive times.
I've loved this song for years. As usual, I was in the library and noticed a great book (which I loved), and then I saw THIS book, and loved it! Looking forward to watching the film, too. Well done, Mr. Lennon!
Another strong story of war on the front lines of battle. This tells a story of how two enemies can be friends without ever knowing each other, how you can find joy in the darkest of moments, and saying goodbye to a pet (that was actually more of a friend).
A nice little story inspired by Jon Lennon's song. The film is better, in my opinion, this is only an adaptation of the film inspired by the song. It's nice anyways.
An early contender for my picture book of the year. Based firstly on the song by John Lennon and Yoko Ono (Merry Christmas. War is Over) and secondly the subsequent award winning short film War is Over. Mix war, soldiers, homing pigeons and a chess game with beautiful text and gloriously rich illustrations and you will need a tissue but you will also feel awesomely satisfied from the experience.
