Emerie Fox’s New Home Comes with Unwanted Surprises...

Leaky pipes, moldy basements—and a mischievous demon poltergeist who’s redecorating her home, stealing her stuff, and leaving blood-soaked messages on the mirror. Sure, the messages are helpful (like reminders to buy milk or grab an umbrella), but Emerie is not the kind of person who tolerates vermin—supernatural or otherwise.

When DIY Exorcism Goes Wrong...

In a desperate attempt to rid herself of the supernatural nuisance, Emerie accidentally rips open a rift between worlds, unleashing the forces of Hell onto her quiet New England town. Now, with a sarcastic witch, a no-nonsense priest, and a dangerously attractive (and seriously irritated) demon named Samael by her side, Emerie has no choice but to track down and exorcise every demon before the portal to Hell consumes everything.

But as things spiral out of control, Emerie begins to is this just a simple case of demon extermination, or is something far darker—and much more personal—at play?

Perfect for fans of dark humor, supernatural adventure, and steamy demon romance, this fast-paced, laugh-out-loud paranormal romp will keep you hooked until the very last page!

As someone who went through teen years with the quips of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the thrills of The Craft, I loved this book. From the first few chapters I knew that Emerie was my kinda gal! Her interactions with the other characters had me laughing out loud, much to the annoyance of my family, yet there were darker parts which chilled me - I read a particular part involving the sound of cloven hooves in a silent house right before I went to sleep, and let’s just say that didn’t go well for me!

The relationships are not only filled with dry humour but they evolve from hatred and fear to respect and a touch of romance. The characterisation reminded me of Jasper Fforde’s writing, which I love, and I had a definite soft spot for Orobas, the Truth Teller.

I would recommend this book for people who enjoy a wide range of genres, as there’s something for everyone and am giving it 5 😈’s - that’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in Bookstagram Land. I can’t wait to see what this author does next!

Grab your Oujia Board and Holy Water!
Emeries new house comes with unwanted surprises! Known as Hell Haven around town, Emeries goes for a DIY exorcism and accidentally unleashes the forces of Hell onto her small town! Can she undo the damage and get back to her home sweet home?

Ok so this one just sounded like a fun spooky season read and it did not disappoint! I was laughing out loud there were so many comical moments! I thought the author did a great job of turning a very stressful event (opening a portal to Hell) into something cozy and funny. Not all spooky season reads need to be scary and I really enjoyed Samael.

Finished this delightfully clever debut novel today and will be watching for its sequel! I also will be thinking about chapter 29 for a good while to come! Think you have read every paranormal romance story ever? You haven’t! This has humor, a little sprinkle of CS Lewis, and every demon you never want to meet in a delightful mash up of how to clean your house of evil creatures with help from an unlikely trio of “demon hunters”. I hope Emerie and Sam have further adventures in their future!

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway, and I’m so happy I did! While there were some editorial errors, the book itself was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had some very interesting points of view, and I definitely laughed at a lot of the demons’ antics! Others have mentioned Chapter 29, and I agree, that was definitely my favorite part ❤️

Peak comedy! This cozy spooky read is surprisingly wholesome, and as a Catholic, I delighted greatly in the many amusing Catholic jokes. Without entering spoilers territory, this story, while on its surface a typical 'girl falls for demon' story, it contains a backdoor to a nuanced look at forgiveness and love, faith and family. both main characters are delightful and instantly likable. The expanded cast of characters, including a rather sarcastic priest, a long-suffering lawyer/witch, and a weird mini horse demon, round out this solid freshman offering.

And the best part? When Coffin plays with tropes, she does so with purpose and intention. They're not tired, they're wired. Definitely a great mid October read. I cannot wait for more!

My rating is actually 4.25 but Goodreads doesn't allow for partial stars.

This is a paranormal romance that follows Emerie fox who has recentlyp into her dream home in the small historic town of Milton in Massachusetts, however it quickly becomes clear that all is not well in her new Home as she finds there is an uninvited guest causing mischief and mayhem such as stealing her things, leaving messages on the walls and furniture, and basically causing a nuisance of themselves. It turns out that her uninvited guest is actually a Demon, so Emery tries to do an exorcism. But of course things don’t go to plan and she ends up opening a rift to hell. In order to fix what she has done, she reaches out to a grumpy priest, a sarcastic witch ignoring her natural powers, and her unwanted Demon guest. Together they work to find each Demon that has escaped through the rift and send them back to hell before it’s too late.

I loved this book, it is full of lots of humour and sarcasm which is right up my street. It is also filled with magic, faith, love, family both blood and found, and cozy small town life with a paranormal twist hiding in plain sight, I loved the different characters in this, even the bad guys are great. I thought the inclusion of the garden of Eden and how that came about was a great touch and added a great backstory, the inclusion of other faiths was a nice touch too. I really enjoyed Kat’s writing style, it is well written and has great pace, and the characters are well developed. This is a great four star read for me and I would definitely recommend.

Imagine you put a down payment on a house, using up almost all of the inheritance you got from your dear grandfather's passing. When suddenly a meddling demon starts messing with your things, leaving notes on the wall, dragging you out of bed, generally annoying things like that. Lesser people might be scared and leave, but Emerie was not going to let an unwanted roommate, who didn't even pay rent, get in the way of her hard-earned money and her carefully thrifted decor. It is just a shame she had no idea what she was in for.

I am in love with this book. I am obsessed with the way it is written and the character evolution within it, as well as all of the creative hauntings and little environmental details that tie the whole world together. As someone who grew up in Bible School, I am also a deep fan of Kat D. Coffin's retelling of certain Christian tales.

But above all, the highlight of this book is the characters. Emerie is the quirkiest character to ever quirk. I have become jaded enough that it is a coin toss on whether this sort of thing will annoy me or not, but she had already won me over by the first couple of pages. She is so over-the-top that her absurd reactions to being haunted match perfectly with her character. She is also incredibly stupid, I think we all have to admit this, but she does everything with a combination of purity and righteousness that sounds like a combination of obnoxiousness but is somehow very endearing.

Samael, how do I describe our dear Sam. He just doesn't have the energy for regular demonic shenanigans, which immediately makes us excited to see what he is going to do next. His arc is incredible to read, as is seeing him interact with the human world. I probably relate to him more than I should, but I will not elaborate.

Should out to Orobas, the real MVP, but I do also need to give an honorable mention to our boy Dylan. All of his other faults aside, people should be able to live in spirit-free homes. It is not a sign of weakness, just a matter of preferences (even if it makes for a less interesting life).

There is one glaring issue with this book, which is that it seems to be missing a chapter. Or three. I deserve more to read. Please. I am not above begging.

Thank you to NetGalley, Kat D. Coffin, and City Owl Press for the advanced copy. This review is left voluntarily and honestly.

In my opinion, the biggest reason why this book doesn't work is that there’s no straight man. There’s no Vimes, or Arthur, or Watson to comment on how bizarre, how strange, how quirky and unusual things are. Instead everyone accepts the happenings around them as normal, having no reaction to … anything. The demons, the goat, the weather, anything. If nothing is normal, then everything is. It leaves the book feeling very one note, and if it’s not a note you enjoy — it’s going to be a long book.

Instead of having a narrator, someone to see the world for the strange and unusual it is, with the haunted house, the demons and witches and everything else, the book switches to various POVs, with all of them sounding exactly the same. And if you don’t vibe with the book’s sense of humor, you’ll end up either bored or irritated, or both.

The writing is fine, the pace is a bit all over the place with bursts of frenetic energy followed by time skips and lulls. The world building is slapdash, the characters are two dimensional at best, and the plot is predictable. All that said, if you give this book I hope you enjoy it more than I did.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC.

²Hell'd Heresies by the aptly names Kat D. Coffin begins with a dating couple, Emerie and Dylan purchasing a fixer-upper that may have an unwanted guest, errrr or a poltergeist. They realize their new town, Milton and specifically the land they now own has a past. One that includes occult rituals and spells. The town also includes haunted woods, terrorizing goblins and witches in its past, so a haunted house fits right into this B-list Salem.
Emerie is resolute that she is not going to give up and move, although Dylan is all for it. She used her inheritance from her grandfather, and she won't be ran out.
Emerie is a lovable, quirky character. She names her appliances for goodness sake!! Dylan, well, according to the ghost, he's a jerk, and she should leave him. He went out of town to a conference, and the ghost started ramping up, giving relationship advice and unwanted advice that is! Now Emerie has to paint over all the messages she is getting from her new houseguest.
Emerie then procurs a ouija board from a neighbors yard sale and discovers who is really haunting her home. This is where the story really gets good as the banter and humor really had me laughing. Emerie tries to get a priest to bless the house which was unsuccessful. She then learns that a previous owner had attempted to summon Emeries demon and gotten cold feet half way through causing the entity to get stuck. So if she is trying to get this demon unstuck and out of her house, why is she agreeing to let the demon in her head so she can talk to him? This is where it all really starts to go wrong and Hell is unleashed. Will Emerie be able to clean up her mess? Well you'll have to read the book to find out!

The tone of this book is right up my alley. It's fast paced enough to hold my attention while the story is interesting and keeps me wanting to know what's going to happen next. This book is definitely a good fit if you like the paranormal genre with sub-genres of demons as well as urban fantasy. The FMC is snarky with a great sense of humor and I immediately connected with her character. The demon also isn't your typical evil character, he has depth and is interesting as well.
Overall I'd rate this book 3.75 stars, rounding up to 4.
I received this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own!

In Hell’s Heresies, Emerie Fox is excited to have purchased her very own fixer-upper, even though her boyfriend doesn’t seem entirely on board. His biggest complaint? The place is haunted, well, actually possessed, by a demon. When her exorcism goes wrong, Emerie has to have the help of a local priest, a witch and her new age mother, and Sam, the demon itself, to close a portal to hell.
Although Emerie and the story are quite humorous, I often found her stubborn and persistent in ways that weren’t particularly smart. She also loyal to her friends but seems a bit detached as well. Sam the demon actually seems a bit more developed.
The pacing throughout was good, there was a lot going on, told in a way that made me want to keep reading. The banter and sarcasm were funny, there were some touching parts to lend some depth, and the background made sense with the story.
Overall, this is a solid paranormal/urban fantasy story. Thank you to Librarything and City Owl Press for the eARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and City Owl Press for the for the E-ARC! This E-ARC was sent to me in exchange for an honest review.

I've read SO MANY fun books lately and this was absolutely no exception. Paranormal romance in a small town where the MC, Emerie, maybe-sorta-kinda opened a portal to Hell? Making things really, really complicated. Well, MORE complicated than they already were.
The humor is phenomenal. I expected the book to make me laugh just from reading the synopsis, but it was actually laugh-out-loud funny. And every single character introduced is unique, fun, and likable. I loved them all. I wanted to meet them all and be friends and go on adventures (hehe).
Plus the romance? Very well thought out, never rushed in any scene even right from the start, and oof-I might have fell for them both.
This is genuinely the perfect read for Autumn/Halloween. You're not getting Stephen King scares, you're a getting cozy, romantic, demon adventuring, Buffy the Vampire slayer-esc type of novel and you're going to have a GREAT time.

Emerie Fox didn’t mean to open a portal to Hell and possibly start the apocalypse. She just wanted to rid her new house of the irksome demon haunting it. Now it’ll take the help of a witch, a demon and a priest for Emerie to try to fix the mess of this exorcism gone wrong.

This fast-paced, banter-filled paranormal comedy is full of action and mayhem. It includes an adequate romance sub-plot (not steamy), a cast of endearing characters, and some interesting takes on religion and spirituality. The main character is Japanese, but I don’t think the author writes from an own voices perspective. Also, one character is explicitly nonbianary, yet the protagonist pointedly refuses to use gender neutral pronouns. Hell's Heresies is an okay read, but it’s not exceptional. Fans of Supernatural may enjoy it.

Thanks to Edelweiss and City Owl Press for providing me with an eARC!

Darkly funny and sarcastically demonic

Hell’s Heresies is a laugh out loud paranormal romance, with dark humour, sarcastic demons and supernatural elements.

The book follows Emerie, who moves into a haunted house and accidentally opens a portal to hell whilst trying to free the ‘poltergeist, that is haunting her. Samael is a darkly funny character, who has to help Emerie put things right.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters that the author has created. I loved lore about the different demons and types of creatures from Hell. I thought the writing style had a nice flow to it and the story was paced really well.

This book is perfect for anyone who loves dark humour, demons, witches and paranormal romances.

In the small town of Milton, an hour outside Boston, Emerie decides to buy a house and follow in her grandfathers legacy of restoring character to old houses. After settling in and beginning her restorations another force in the house makes itself known. When Emerie tries to find out who and what exactly is terrorizing her house she may accidentally open the gates to hell. Emerie then must work with a priest, witch, and demon to close the gates before all of hell breaks loose.

This story was a perfect spooky season read. Perfect mix of comedy and the end of the world. The relationships between Emerie, Zephyr, Father Zebulum, and Samael are wonderful and draws the reader in. I loved going through this story and wanted to see what would come next after each page.

This was a really good read. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. It's the reason I signed up for this tour. It did take me a few chapters to get into this book. Once I did I couldn't put it down. I loved Emerie's character. Samael grew on me. I did like how he was. I liked Zephyr even Father Zebulun. I loved the description of the demons. Even the names Mephistopheles, Beelzebub, Mammon, Orobas, Raphael, and Azazel. And Lilith and Lucifer. I have read a few books about demons and hell. So far this one is my favourite book. I definitely recommend this book.

This was such a fun read. What can be more interesting than buying a home and coming to the realization that a demon is haunting it? Emerie doesn't know what to do about the frustrating demon that is inhabiting her house, but she must get rid of it to convince her longtime boyfriend to live there. I could tell right from the beginning that he would do anything to persuade Emerie not to live in this home. However, how could she not live there besides the demon? The house was perfect for her. Along with all the other interesting characters we meet along the way.

For her first book Kat Coffin did a great job. The main character, Emerie is not your ordinary girl. Another reviewer used the phrase wackadoodle, and that is her personality in a spot on way. You have a lot of demons including the big ones - Lucifer and Lilith and a weirdly endearing one, Orobas. The story is funny, sacrilegious and thought provoking. Please tell us we’ll hear more from this motley crew. Best endearment for your daughter “oh my sharp mustard seed.”

In Hell's Heresies, Emerie Fox accidentally opens a Hell portal while exorcising a demon, risking an apocalypse. A witch, demon, and priest help her fix it. This action-packed paranormal comedy has witty banter, a light romance, and a diverse cast, including a Japanese protagonist. It explores religion and spirituality. Fun but not exceptional, just an OK read for me.

This one took me a while to get through, but I skimmed a lot of the chapters, as I felt a bit bored. Sadly this book didn’t grab me and I didn’t love it. Emerie felt a bit too…unstable or whacky…??
She didn’t have a care for consequences even though her actions were questionable at times. Samael seemed to have a better understanding of what was happening.

I enjoyed this book, although it did drag a bit in places. It wasn’t quite what I expected. I’m not sure what I expected, probably a bit more spice (there was none) but this was good for the story and the characters were cool. (Except for Emerie’s boyfriend. He’s a douche.) I didn’t find it particularly dark or gruesome, so if that was what the author was going for, it missed its mark, which I’m glad of. Solid read, would recommend.

Emerie makes discoveries about hauntings, heavenly things, and all sorts of spiritual odds and ends.

I was fond of a certain fallen angel, but I was especially taken with a certain Carpenter, who seemed an implement of Love and Justice, as well as Forgiveness and Love

unique and insightful hierarchies and heretics.

I like this book, which is full of interesting characters and great banter.
I think Emerie is a little jaded (maybe), and you can sense the frustration. I like Samuel, he makes a great foil for Emerie.
I think the quirks in this story make it a great read as well and. keep you invested until the last page.

This was an interesting and fast-paced read by a new to me author. With fab world building, likeable characters and an engaging plot, I enjoyed how this one unfolded. The romance is non-steamy and there's great banter, action, chaos and spirituality to keep you turning pages. Good fun!

I finished this in one sitting because it’s entirely up my alley. Reminded me just a little of Good Omens (not as silly—which is a good thing) but was otherwise wholly original. Funny, well-written, and fast-paced.

But, Kat—they didn’t even KISS?? 😭😭😭

A delightfully fun, snarky read with priests, demons, and pop culture references. I didn’t love the audio, the narrator had noticeable, awkward pauses and certain words she pronounced just didn’t feel right to me. Read this for Behind the Page December 2025.

I am not sure how Kat Coffin knew exactly what I wanted in a book but they did and that’s equally scary and amazing. A perfect blend of funny and heartfelt with a bit of romance and adventure to, Hell’s Heresies is the perfect read for those who enjoy darker humour, a good laugh, spooky vibes and brilliant characters. I could not put this one down when I started. The perfect mix of everything I love in a fast paced story that hooks you from the start. Emerie was a really awesome protagonist that you couldn’t help but like. While on the surface it’s a funny romance there is a lot more at play too, there are themes of forgiveness and family ties, love and loss and so much more. With numerous jokes and puns throughout it will be incredibly hard to not enjoy Hell’s Heresies and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
As always thank you to Love Book Tours for the copy to review. My review is always honest, truthful and freely given.
