Briar would follow those she loves to the darkest realms and further.
But what if she’s lost, unable to find her way back?
Welcome to Isle of the Forgotten, where creatures—darker than ever before—loom in the shadows, and a new evil resides closer than you might think. Briar Blackbyrne’s secret is out, and that who dwells deep within her fights every day to take control.
After an unexpected turn of events that forces Briar and her loved ones to flee Daramveer on board a ship pointing her in a direction she never thought she’d go, she’s forced to accept that things are no longer as they seem. Every day and new adventures tests their ability to work together to bring down Carobon, the Great Lumor Wiitch, who is fighting to rule over all the realms once more.
But, what happens when everything changes? A new kingdom, new threats, and ancient secrets being brought to the surface, cause Briar to question everything about what she thought she knew.
The Isle of the Forgotten, the second book in the Darkness Series, is a dark fantasy romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last word.
I’m Kathryn Breaux. I am a new Indie Author writing my first novel to be released early 2025 - The Trials of Darkness.
My love of reading has ebbed and flowed throughout my life but my love of fantasy has never faltered. Typically, I’m hanging with my family, reading fantasy, romantasy, or thrillers when I'm not writing. But let’s be honest, I’m writing a lot these days.
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, helping me pursue my dream of being an Author.
I’m thrilled to be reaching for my dreams and I hope you take the leap of faith and chase your own.
There is so much to say about this book that I want to say. in short I will shout about how absolutely incredible this book is. Following right after book 2 and leading us further into what is happening. Silas and Briar are still learning, exploring and trusting not only themselves but their relationship. This book has riveting discoveries as well as heartbreaking revelations. The enticing spice is absolutely delicious all the while the jounrey these characters go on will have you at the edge of your seat and your emotions in a blender. Book 3 I am preparing for your release. ✨️📚✨️
I was absolutely thrilled to receive this arc!! This book blew me away! You really great to know the characters in this second book and you meet some new fun ones. It was completely action packed and kept me on my feet. I will be stalking the authors page for the third book!!
I will say, the first book was not my favorite. I liked the premise but I felt it lacked details. This book brings details!!!!! I really loved it! The growth of this author is amazing to see!
"Then let her destroy me. Let her fucking ruin me. I'd happily allow briar to be the reason I crumble. Because life without her, I fear, would be darker than any fate I can imagine."
⭐⭐⭐.25
I'm really struggling to figure out where I want to rate this one. I remember absolutely ADORING Trials of Darkness. But, part of my problem is I don't remember anything else.
Oftentimes, especially in romantasies, I find, the author sprinkles bits of knowledge from the previous instalments to help rejig your memory with important moments. While I believe the author did this, it was done sparingly, and when it was done, it was so vague I was left more confused than when I started the book.
I absolutely loved the first half of this book. However, by the time I got to about 55%, I realised I still had half to go? Then I realised the first half was just Briar and Silas either arguing over the same thing again and again or banging, with a little bit of plot in between. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it when I read it - but I ended up skimming the last 30% because I felt like it was just unnecessarily long and dragged for too long. I'd gotten bored. Which is unfortunate, because the last 30% is when EVERYTHING happens.
The premise is really interesting, and I think the characters are well developed and unique, with different worldbuilding than usual. But it just didn't need to be that long.
Thank you, Kathryn Breaux, for the opportunity to read this eARC!
I don’t know how Kathryn Breaux managed it, but Isle of the Forgotten reached straight into that quiet, aching part of me I don’t usually let books touch.
This story isn’t just atmospheric—it’s immersive in a way that feels almost personal, like the island knows your secrets as much as the characters’ own. Every chapter carries this gentle, creeping tension that never overwhelms but never lets you go either. It’s the kind of book where you look up and realize you’ve been holding your breath without noticing.
The characters are what broke me the most. They’re messy, wounded, stubbornly hopeful in all the ways real people are. Their guilt, their longing, their fear of being truly seen—it’s written with such honesty that sometimes I had to pause just to sit with it. There’s a tenderness woven into the darkness that made the emotional punches hit even harder.
Breaux’s writing is almost haunting in how quietly it builds. You don’t feel the weight of it until suddenly your heart is in your throat and you’re realizing how much you care. By the end, I was equal parts shattered and grateful—shattered because of what these characters endure, grateful because of how beautifully their story is told.
If you love fantasy that feels intimate, atmospheric, and emotionally vulnerable, this book will stay with you long after the last page. It certainly stayed with me.
Well. When I thought the heartbreak was over, Kathryn hit me again in style. TWICE at the end. Woman, are you TRYING to kill me? 😅😂
I loved everything about Briar, Silas, Oak and Maines. And we can’t forget about Larkin! I think he was my favorite character in this book! His sass and loyalty had me wanting MORE! 🙌🏼😂 I can’t wait to see more from this guy in the future. 👀👀
The twists and turns had me racing through this book for MORE. I was up until almost 4am this morning because I couldn’t get enough. I was legit regretting my life choices when my son decided to wake up at 6:45am, but I digress….😅 (It was TOTALLY worth it, btw!) I ended up having to give up and sleep, but I raced through the rest of it today and I just…🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
I can’t wait for the next book in this series! This was such a good read. I love this world, the magic system, and all of the characters. (Except Malachi. F*ck you, dude…) I need MORE!
Isle of the Forgotten is darker, sharper, and somehow even more addictive than the first. Kathryn Breaux ripped open Briar’s world and said, “let’s see what survives,” and I was living for it.
It’s the perfect kind of dark fantasy where the tension simmers, the world feels cursed, and the writing has teeth. I finished the last page feral for book three.
I wasn't sure at first because 600 pages sounds like a lot, but I was intrigued and wanted to figure out all the new mysteries that were being laid out before me. I didn't get all the answers I'm looking for, but I sure am excited to read the next book.
Full of action, secrets, hidden powers, an army of the resurrected. This just screams fantasy with romance and adventure. There are 3+ spicy scenes if that's not your thing but you can easily skip over them and continue on the story.
After the events of the first book, I kept wondering what could happen next. Sheesh! I knew the father was cruel but I didn't realize he was that cruel. and powerful. They need tattoos with a special poisonous ink to block the King's mind control powers. And that's not even the worst thing he can do or does!
And then the war had me on edge because I was so scared of who the author was going to kill off. Too many characters and found family means someone has got to go. It was still sad when it happened, but I prepared myself knowing it was coming.
“Fight for your family, your honor, and your kingdom. We can take them. We will rest when the last one dies.”
♡︎ Book Summary ♡︎
Isle of the Forgotten is the second book in the Darkness Series, following on from The Trials of Darkness. The story follows protagonist Briar Blackbyrne, whose secret darkness is exposed and forces her and her loved ones to flee their kingdom of Daramveer. They head toward a new kingdom, unravel new threats, and uncover ancient secrets as they face the looming danger from new and old foes.
✍︎︎ Review ✍︎︎
Ambitious scope & world‐building The book pushes into new territory: new kingdom, new threats, ancient magics. That sense of expansion from the first book gives a feeling of scale and stakes.
Strong female protagonist Briar is set up as someone who, despite trauma and fear of her own power, is forced into action. That internal conflict between self-doubt, inherited darkness, and the need to fight is compelling and realistic.
Action & pacing In the beginning, it was slow and somewhat repetitive. But once it picked up, I was sucked into heart stopping action and magic.
Found family, enough said!
❌ Cliffhanger ❌ Character depth
Overall, Isle of the Forgotten offers an exciting continuation of Briar’s journey through darkness, magic and loss toward redemption and power. Kathryn Breaux builds a vivid, dangerous world and places her protagonist in the heart of it, juggling internal and external threats. If you’re drawn to dark romantasy with magic, kingdoms and a battle of light vs. shadow, I highly recommend 💕
✔︎ TL;DR ❥ Strong female lead ❥ Lush world building ❥ Found family ❥ Action packed

✨Isle of the Forgotten🐍 by Kathryn Breaux ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. 5
When a book starts with this dedication… ______________________________________ To those who once let the darkness win. To those who are still fighting. And to those who are ready to bite back. ______________________________________ …you know you’re about to start something good 😏
Isle of the Forgotten is the second book in The Darkness Series. It starts just as the first book ends as Briar, Silas, and the rest of the crew continue their journey from Briar’s Daramveer to Silas’s Anderwood.
Kathryn really doesn’t miss a step continuing on from book 1 to book 2. The action continues and keeps you on your toes throughout the whole novel. I didn’t know I could dislike so many enemies the same amount at the same time 😂 There is never a chance to get bored as the group is always on the run or planning to fight someone or something.
The characters continue to be my favorite part of Kathryn’s story. My love for Briar and Silas continues to grow and I hope I find a love like theirs in my life ❤️ Who wouldn’t be thrilled with their man saying they will always be able to find you in your darkest days and protect you in all the days to come?
As the book continues, we begin to learn more about the other characters brought to Anderwood as well as those Silas holds close back at home. I’m super excited to see how these characters continue to grow as individuals and with each other.
Kathryn of COURSE has to leave you on the BIGGEST cliffhanger EVEERRRRR 😤 I’m not saying I’m upset but I’m kind of upset 😆 I am super excited to see how their story continues and the direction in which the book is taking and the characters we are learning more and more about!
Thank you to Kathryn for continuing to allow me to be an ARC reader for this series and a member of her street team! It means so much to me! 🫶
OKAY so I want to thank the author immensely for allowing me to read this ARC & submit my review!
First I’d like to say spice factor was 🔥🔥 definitely there. We also got a lot of new characters introduced as we journeyed to the infamously dangerous Anderwood, home to our fantastic father—ehem sorry, Prince of darkness, Silas.
The new characters really upped to anti on banter as well as brought some well timed comedic jokes and moments of panic throughout the story. I am a huge fan of Larkin myself.
The world building and lore took an extra leap in this story as well since we find out a lot about the Isle they are now on as well as some crazy additions to the plot line. I’m super excited to see how all that plays out in the coming stories and super distraught at the cliffhanger ending.
I will say I think this book was a little fast paced for me. Even in moments of non action, I felt like time was going by super quickly in the story. Characters would be upset and then not a few minutes later and I felt like I couldn’t fully connect with them all because of that, however I did really like the book as a whole.
Personally I’m a very character driven person so if I’m fangirling over a person in a book I’m immediately in love with a book and while I still can’t fully connect with the story as much as I’d like, because so much is going on in the plot & there are a lot of characters to indulge in, I did get attached to Fen & Larkin and the crazy amount of secrets that have yet to be revealed and that makes me both eager and nervous to continue the story.
There are a lot of moving pieces here, and I’m suspicious of everyone 👀👀.
Definitely would still recommend this series to romantasy readers, especially if you like spice & nonstop suspense.
Kathryn has done it again! Another rollercoaster of a journey from start to finish.
We begin Isle of the Forgotten with the characters coming to terms with the events and revelations that took place at the end of book one. However, they don’t have long to adjust because new challenges immediately present themselves and they are even more deadly.
Briar is as determined as ever to protect those she loves and she’s willing to go to any lengths to do so. Throughout the book, her power grows in strength, but so too does her struggle to control the Great Wiitch, Kalix, who possess her. Briar’s inner turmoil is very much front and centre in this book. One particular instance that stood out to me was Briar warring with her mind in a moment that I found to be reminiscent of Lady Macbeth and the famous line, “Out, damned spot!”
The true strength of this book, though, is the found family. The banter and relationships between these characters is just brilliant and I especially love Oak and Maines. I really hope we get more from these two in the next book as their dynamic is amazing! New characters were introduced in Isle of the Forgotten who were a welcome addition to this found family. They present possibilities for future plot lines and a fresh take on a well-established romantasy trope. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I’m very intrigued to see where this takes us in book 3.
Isle of the Forgotten is another great instalment in the Darkness Series and is a must-read for readers who like their romantasy on the darker side. Thank you so much to Kathryn for my ARC!
Tropes: 🖤 High stakes 🖤 Dark creatures 🖤 Betrayals 🖤 Found family 🖤 Light and shadow magic 🖤 Ancient powers 🖤 Dark romantasy
We get more characters, new places, and more monsters! Everything expanded so well and made me enjoy this story so much!
Now, I read book 1 in February or March for an ARC read (5 stars). I forgot most things that happened in it which made the start of this a little rough. The author does a pretty good job reminding about most things, so I caught on fairly quickly, but there are still a few characters and things I don't remember anything about. My rating is more at a 4.5 star for that, but if I reread book 1, I know it would have been 5 star fully, so I'm rounding up. I won't make that mistake again when book 3 comes around! So definitely pick this up when book 1 is fresh in your mind!
I love the romance and spice between Silas and Briar! They were so sweet and supportive, while also driving each other nuts with how stubborn and reckless Briar is. They're both really coming into their power and while some secrets were revealed, we have more to come!
We get some quest and battle action in this book and have come to realize that this is only the tip of the iceberg! I can't wait for the next one to delve more into everything and try to figure out just where this is heading!
Read if you love: -Quest for answers -Shadow FMC & MMC -Light powers -Found family -Dark creatures
Thank you to the author for the eARC for this book. My thoughts are entirely my own. Finish date: 10/25/25, Release date: 10/28/25
Kathryn, Kathryn, Kathryn…why do I keep letting you do this to me?! You sure know how to put a girl through the wringer with these cliffys.
I had the absolute honor of reading this story twice, from beta to ARC, and let me just say it hit just as hard the second time, maybe even harder. 😭 Even knowing what was coming, I still devoured every single page like it was my first read. I ATE IT UP! 👏🏻
This book picks up right after Trials of the Darkness (book 1) and does not slow down for a single moment. We get to explore new places, fall deeper into the darkness, meet new characters, and uncover more twists, and I loved every second of it.
Briar is still the badass FMC we all adore, constantly battling her inner darkness, and Silas…oh Silas. Still stressed AF but probably the most supportive MMC I’ve ever read. Their chemistry? Absolute perfection. 👌🏼
And then there’s my baby, Oak. I can’t write this review without mentioning him. I have NEVER been so obsessed with a side character in my life. I’ve loved him from the very beginning and I’m just BEGGING for more of him. With that cliffhanger, I’m praying my wish comes true.🤞🏻The glimpses we get of him and Maine’s relationship? Ugh, so good, even if a part of me wishes it was me. 😂
If you love dark romantasy that will keep you on your toes and make you fall head over heels for every single character, this series is an absolute must read. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I could not put this down. Every time I picked it up to read “one chapter” I ended up reading several chapters! The high stakes kept me at the edge of my seat and I truly adore these characters 🖤
The more I reflect on this book, the more I like it! I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, which was filled with high stakes and so much action that I couldn't help but want to keep reading. 😲 The romance between Briar and Silas was beautiful; their bond felt strong and unbreakable. ❤️ Silas is something else—his devotion to Briar and his way with words had me blushing! 🥵
I absolutely loved the side characters; they added so much to the story. The found family aspect was heartwarming, and I really connected with them. 🥰 We also meet new characters, and I quickly fell in love with Larkin. He’s grumpy, loyal, and really stood out to me—I wanted more of him in the book. 😩
The battle scenes were intense and well-written, and the story was quite emotional, especially towards the end, where I found myself tearing up (still not over it). 😢 These characters endure so much and have no rest; they face incredible challenges throughout the whole book. ☹️💔 Isle of the Forgotten will definitely be on my recommendations list, and I truly cannot wait for the next one in the series!
Thank you to author Kathryn Breaux for sending me the ARC! 🫶
Okay, let me find my words! First life was lifeing lately and it took me longer than I wanted to finish this book. Trust me that was at no fault to this book.
It. Was. AMAZING!!
The world building that Kathryn gives you is *chefs kiss*!! I can’t even begin to describe how amazing it is! It lets you dive into the story and feel like you are really there.
As always Briar is such a badass and I love her so much! Her resilience and the way she fights for those she loves! It may drive her friends mad but damn if it isn’t inspiring!!
Silas had me feeling like a school girl with a crush. I love him so dang much! Briar may be his ruin but dang it if he isn’t mine!! I LOVE HIM!
Now let’s dive into the last 20% of this book. I was screaming, I was crying, I was laughing. I felt every emotion in such a short amount of time. At one point I had to sit my kindle down take a few breaths and tell myself it would all be okay. This book was so much more than I anticipated it to be! The cliffhanger however will have me impatiently waiting for book 3 for the foreseeable future.
This book introduces more characters and has more world/character building but still fast paced and full of mystery, high-stakes danger, and darkness.
This book is based in Andorwood, where Silas was raised. We learn a lot about him and his family and friends as we meet these people. (I will say that I am particularly attached to Larkin. Who doesn't love a grumpy guy with a good heart?) Silas and Briar's relationship grows roots as they finally start to lean into one another, support, and reel one another in as needed. Many of the side characters also stand up on their own as well as form this beautiful little fierce found family.
I am intrigued by the the politics and the massive conflict this is inevitably building towards. I am rooting for these characters that fight tooth and nail for what and who they believe in. I am equally wildly curious about the darker forces in play will act as they seem to have a grand plan (that we do not know aside from a very general overall goal). Soooo I'll absolutely without hesitation be picking up the next book.
Isle of the Forgotten picks up where The Trials of Darkness left off, and I devoured it! I did not want to put the book down — it’s SO good!! I am in awe of Kathryn’s mind & how she conjures her thoughts to words. My favorite thing is the “ah” moment when the book title & art connects to the story! 🐍
Briar is heading in a direction she never thought she’d go after fleeing home while constantly needing to be on alert which is difficult with invisible threats and crossing paths with new faces who are not as they seem. She must trust her instincts, rely on her loved ones and remember light cannot shine without shadows.
IOTF is full of twists, turns and reveals all the way to the end. The stakes are high as one misstep could be costly, the darkness flows dark & deep and the creatures are beautifully horrid.
& a moment of appreciation for Silas, the prince of darkness. His broodiness and mouth are next level. & for Maines, the loyal and badass best friend. She is a true treasure. ✨
Thank you so much to Kathryn and team for the gifted ARC!
Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed this book. This book will tear you apart emotionally. Tears will fall. I will need a couple business days to recover.
Kathryn does an absolutely fantastic job of weaving a story. I was so invested in every single character. She writes in a way that you become so attached and smile at all of the found family. There’s so much sisterly/brotherly banter that had me giggling along. Briar and Silas are everything. Their relationship continues to grow and evolve into something strong and unbreakable. Plus, Silas is down BAD. He is the definition of I will burn the world for you. Larkin is my favorite. He is so grumpy but so lovable once you learn more about him and his story. All of the support characters play such a big role and really make this story next level. I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this book and I need book 3 right now. I don’t know how I will wait 😭
Thank you Kathryn Breaux for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!!
“My shadow, we all fail. But, those who choose to view their failures as new beginnings are the ones who emerge from this life feeling fulfilled.”
•REVIEW• Kathryn I am in need of Book 3 right now. I was not expecting that ending and the cliff hanger has me wanting more. I thought I loved book one but I loved book two even more!
Book two picks up where book one leaves us hanging after the trails with Briar and Silas. We meet Malachi and Aerona. We also meet Warwick, Larkin, and Fen. Well there is Hux to but we won’t mention him. We see their struggles and strengths. We watch the grow and overcome as well. Towards the end of the book it picks up and we are thrown into the anticipated battle that we all know was going to come. We get the outcome but there is a plot twist and that is where the cliff hanger comes into play having you wanting book 3 right away.
I was also excited to see the epilogue from Maines POV. Her character is one that I absolutely love and so glad we got to see her side at the end of what happened.
Tropes: ✨ Shadow Mommy & Daddy ✨ Betrayals ✨ Rituals ✨ Found Family
Oh my shadows! This series is not a standalone series! So if you haven’t read The Trials Of Darkness, go back and read it!
I’m not gonna lie, I had to take a few days after I finished reading to process everything.
My favorite part? Learning so much about Silas. Silas is hands down my favorite. Move over Xaden because you have competition with another shadow daddy (sorry, not sorry). Like any mysterious shadow daddy, Silas has secrets. Some are worse than others but he is so transparent with them and eventually caves. His home life is absolutely terrible and you will totally feel for him and his sister. Silas is so freaking loyal and will do anything for the ones he loves.
You also get to learn why Briar and Silas are so drawn to each other. And that is interesting all on its own.
There are so many twists and turns in this book on top of the betrayals. And oh my darkness, you will feel everything in this book. You will want to keep reading and then get mad and sad that you finished the book (trust me, I know from experience). I can’t wait for the next book because that cliffhanger just about killed me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review for Isle of the Forgotten by Kathryn Breux
Isle of the Forgotten is an absolutely mesmerizing continuation of the Darkness series — a dark romantasy that pulls you deeper into the shadows with every page. Kathryn Breux masterfully expands the world with new additions to the found family we fell in love with in book one, blending fierce loyalty, betrayal, and the seductive danger of shadow magic.
The atmosphere is haunting and lush, filled with dark creatures that make your pulse race and emotional moments that remind you why you’re obsessed with this series. The writing is sharp, the romance deliciously twisted, and the stakes higher than ever. Breux doesn’t just build worlds — she traps you in them.
If you love morally gray characters, dark magic, and found family dynamics that make your heart ache, Isle of the Forgotten is a must-read. It’s an intoxicating sequel that proves this series just keeps getting better.
Isle of the Forgotten is an immediate read. Full of high stakes, secrets, and betrayal. We pick up right where book one ended and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. This book takes place in the kingdom that Silas is from so we meet his family and friends in this book. I loved meeting the new characters and getting more of their back story and how they’re all connected to create this found family. I love the exploration of how even if a family dynamic isn’t what one would hope for there is still love to be found. The further exploration of their trauma and what makes them who they are was so interesting. I absolutely loved Larkin and his dynamic with Briar. Their banter was amazing. I loved having more from Oaks and Maines and the DEVOTION between Silas and Briar is just so swoon worthy.
I can’t not wait to see what Breaux has in store for us next.
What a sequel! The trials are over, but the trauma is not. Briar continues to come to terms with what's inside her and what that means for those she loves. A new father enters the ring as the villain, but he's not the only one. What is the cost of giving in or the cost of fighting? Heavy weight upon Briar's shoulders. We have magic, mysterious monsters, an lots of secrets.
Briar continues to be one of my favorite FMCs of all time. She's bad, mmkay. I still want a Briar's Baddies shirt if you're listening Kathryn.
The relationship between Silas and Briar is so good. Personal character growth and relationship development are so hot in this book. Silas has me in an actual puddle. His devotion is swoony. He's perfect. No notes.
Hello, Larkin! What a complex character. I love him so much. I will protect him with my life.
***ARC REVIEW***Although there were quite a few things in this book that I liked even better than the first book, there were also other things I did not love as much. My main issue with this book is all of it felt a bit rushed, I felt that we would get to a huge plot point that could make or break things for our characters and instead of a well thought out solution it would get pushed to the background to make room for other things or a very convenient solution would show itself right away. I guess I just wanted a little bit more depth to those sort of things. Overall though I loved the found family aspect of this story and the new characters definitely added to it overall. I adore the relationship between Silas and Briar so much, the way they love each other is perfect.
Found Family War torn kingdoms He always finds her She would burn the world for him
“Isle of the Forgotten” by Kathryn Breaux. At this point just give me all of the dark Romantasy that comes out.
Ancient Witches ✔️ Dark Creatures ✔️ Light and Shadow Magic ✔️ Found Family ✔️ Dark Romantasy ✔️
“Isle of the Forgotten” is book two in “The Darkness Series” and I loved this one even more than book one. Reading book one, I will own that I related to Briar in her grief and feeling like she was a different person after her mother’s death. Somehow it bought me into her story and her darkness. She is complex and cares deeply for her found family. Book two just reaffirms everything I loved from book one and then took it up a notch. This was an emotional journey and I loved being on it.
Thank you so much to Kathryn Breaux for letting me be an ARC reader for “Isle of the Forgotten.” Now I’ll just be impatiently awaiting yet another book. Calamity 😫
Isle of the Forgotten vibe is the ultimate plot twist - This wonderful series brings darker elements , more twists and surprises, than the first novel.
Opening the door to Briar's world is like entering a twisted maze, it's vast with danger lurking around unseen, giving you pause, like how much can one endure and concur victoriously. Showcasing Briar and Silas bond and loyalty to one another, building on the multilayered story, adding more great characters to this fast paced, action, mystery.
Reveling in book 2, it’s the perfect kind of dark fantasy where the tension is so thick you need a chainsaw, the spice is amplified and the world building feels like it's been put through a blender with the writing being descriptively sharp. So without further ado, can’t wait to dive into book 3…
I’m really enjoying this world and characters, including secondary characters. I love that the FMC/MMC are in their late 20s/early 30s. There wasn’t so much of a slow burn in the first book, and I like how we find out why that is in this book. I enjoyed how the secondary characters have just as important of roles in the story - I also liked how there isn’t too much spice (I love spice) but the plot didn’t really call for it - I was more interested in reading where the story was going plotwise. This book is long and there are lots of tropes. Sometimes the FMC threw me off with her personality/emotional changes 😂- but overall I really liked it and cannot wait to see where this series goes
Also - I’ll take 100 Silas’ please 😊
Thank you Kathryn Breaux/Team for the ARC! I loved the first story and was so excited to get to read the sequel
He winks. “You’re the only person I’d let nearly bring me to my knees.” -Silas Nastronde
If that quote doesn’t set the steamy romance sub-plot to Isle of the Forgotten, then I don’t know what would! FMC 27yr old Briar, Queen of Daramveer is heading to Andorwood with Silas, Oak, Maines and few other familiar faces (and yes, FINALLY an FMC who is older!) once at Andorwood, we meet some new friends—Warrick, Larkin (ps-he is holding onto a secret 🤫), and Silas’ sister Fenmore. This second book to the series dives more into the overall world and really does continue to build up each character. I enjoyed the banter and the secrets that Kathryn holds back from the reader, along with the Found family trope—a true favorite of mine. A lot happens within the story and it honestly has me asking more questions than I did prior! I can’t wait to dive into Book 3, especially after that ending!
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review this eARC.
This was an INCREDIBLE book & continuation of the ‘In the Darkness’ series. Andorwood gave me really moody, gothic vibes which is perfect for this time of year (or anytime, honestly). It felt like the ‘seriousness’ of this kingdom translated perfectly into the plot and how dire their world’s ~situation~ is 😅. The character development within this book was lovely and there is definitely a strong element of found family which I love so much (despite the risks iykwim). There were also a few twists that were satisfying and leave you wondering where the next book in this series will take you!
Seriously enjoyed this book so much! If you haven’t read the first book, ‘The Trials of Darkness’, check it out & then continue to fall in love in ‘Isle of the Forgotten’ - out on 10/28/25!
