Ramone Sanchez, rising star in the age-old Spanish tradition of bullfighting passed down for generations, has found his life once filled with glamour and fame thrust into the crossroads of despair. Recently engaged to Annie Harrison, the Western beauty from Beyond the Sea: Annie’s Journey into the Extraordinary, Ramone has become an unwilling victim in a politically-fraught drama, witnessing the unthinkable and reluctantly realizing his lack of power outside the ring. His brother, Antonio, once the carefree, dimpled Casanova with women at his feet, is now wheel-chair bound from an injury in the bullring and pitifully doubts both his manhood and his path forward. It is Annie’s family who takes Ramone and Antonio under their wing, along with their mother, Marguerite, to set sail on the Porto Banus and take refuge on the idyllic island of Mallorca off the coast of Spain. A spiritual wedding is planned, bringing friends and family together as the island works its magical healing to create a bond between them that reshapes each of their own destinies.
Will Ramone and Antonio find the comfort they so desperately need to answer the questions simmering beneath the surface, or will they find even more than they hoped for?

Tropes: family saga perseverance island wedding political intrigue
Crossing Paths picks up immediately after book one, Beyond the Sea, leaves off. Annie and her matador fiancé, Ramone, are enjoying their new beginning when Ramone's father, Salvador, escapes from prison. Salvador is wrapped up in political ties in Hong Kong and Ramone helped get him arrested. Afraid Salvador is behind the kidnapping, it turns out Ramone was kidnapped by the men looking for Salvador instead.
After a nightmarish experience, Annie and Ramone, and their families, leave for Mallorca for a get away. Annie and Ramone make new friends on the island and decide this is the perfect spot to get married.
While book one was about self-discovery, I felt Crossing Paths was more about relationships. We see more than just Annie's story but we get a bit of everyone's. I was intrigued with the ending with Sarah and her possible love triangle and I look forward to her book.
In Crossing Paths, the second novel in Nina Purtee's series, we revisit Annie's evolving tale as she embarks on a new chapter of her life in Spain. Engaged to the illustrious matador Ramone and expecting their child, Annie's journey is marked by her resilience and ambition. However, her visionary aspirations often become a source of stress and indecision, leading her to seek solace and guidance from her family, friends, and particularly Ramone as she adjusts to her changing circumstances.
The narrative is primarily character-driven, unfolding at a measured pace that allows for an in-depth exploration of the complexities and dynamics within Annie's support network. The novel opens with a surge of drama: Ramone's abduction and subsequent release and an abrupt tragedy linked to a Chinese crime syndicate. Intriguingly, after this initial flurry of activity, the threat posed by the crime organization recedes, resurfacing only briefly toward the novel's conclusion. The central focus of the narrative shifts to the intricacies of Annie's wedding preparations. These segments, aiming to capture significant life events' emotional and logistical complexities, offer a consistent focus that underscores the theme. However, they may benefit from additional variety and depth. The dialogue in the novel, with its soap opera-like flair, is rich in grand statements, offering a dramatic tone that complements the storyline. While it sometimes simplifies the characters' deeper complexities, this approach contributes to making Purtee's characters broadly appealing and accessible, though they might benefit from further depth. The author's strengths lie in her vivid descriptions of diverse international settings, showcasing her keen understanding and appreciation of different cultures.
Crossing Paths strikes a balance with its gentle pace and accessible depth, making it an ideal choice for readers searching for a light, escapist journey through the charming narrative of Annie's story and the vivid world crafted by Purtee.
I highly recommend Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny! I was so excited to read Nina Purtee’s sequel to Beyond the Sea: Annie’s Journey in the Extraordinary where we get to continue on Annie’s journey into the next chapter of her life! Not only did Nina continue to tell Annie’s story, however she also brought in new characters who joined the journey and new friendships were formed and paths crossed. In Crossing Paths, fate brought Annie’s family and friends to the beautiful island of Mallorca, where it is decided would be the perfect venue for the wedding! Of course, as plans were being made for the wedding there are twists and turns!
Nina’s gift once again shines as her descriptive writing style makes you feel as if you are there with Annie experiencing the journey with her! Crossing Paths is a must read, especially if you loved Beyond the Sea! And wait until you read about the pilgrimage…you just may shed a few tears as you cheer on the group!
This is the second in the series focusing on Annie and her friends and family, much like the first book, the start of this one was action packed. The first 25/30% had lots going on and then slipped into the more sedate pace of the day to day lives of these characters, and that part was definitely my preference. The first section felt a little rushed, but the rest of the book was perfectly paced. I loved getting to know some of the characters better, such as Antonio and Meghan. We also met some new people who added much needed depth to some of the some characters. There was so much romance, both in the storylines and in the setting. It was described so beautifully and sounded magical. There's obviously some secrets to come out, and hopefully, they are explained in the next book, despite moving onto Sarah's story. I'm looking forward to what's next!
I can’t tell you how excited I am to have read book 2 of Annie’s journey, what I loved was the intro which covered book 1 so even if you hadn’t read it you could follow this book with no problem, it was great to have the refresher for me too. This book sees Annie and Ramone in Spain but things aren’t smooth sailing (😉) What I expect from Nina now is the beautiful descriptive writing, I love how I felt I was in Spain and then the beautiful Mallorca, I could almost smell the sea and feel the sun ☀️ If you read beyond the sea you really need to read this one with twists and turns along the way and the whole range of emotions that come along with it. Returning characters from book 1 and new ones to meet each character has a depth to them that makes you feel you know them. I cannot wait to carry on to book 3 to see what it brings
Thanks Nina Purtee and lbt for having me on the book tour for book 2 of Annie's adventures.
This book takes us on a different adventure in Annie's life journey. There's still moments of suspense due to some of the people in her life and the choices they've made/work that they do. Things do work out quite well for Annie despite the bumps in the road and she does continue to go on amazing travels and meet some interesting people along the way.
I like that we get to catch up with some the characters from book 1 and see how things have moved on for them, particularly Sabine. It's also good to meet new people that are important to Annie and Ramone and their future together.
The book starts out with a shot of adrenaline, Annie’s future father-in-law at the heart the conflict. Annie’s matador fiancé is missing, his car found empty and the door open.
To protect the family, those surrounding Annie and Ramone are to be wisked off to Mallorca for safety. Fast forward, no spoilers, everyone close to Annie and Ramone end up on Mallorca.
Bringing back Sarah and Mara from book one as well as many of the other family and friends. Diving deeper into their relationships, character development and beautiful settings that include a regatta, fine dining, wedding planners and a pearl factory! A perfect escape from reality and a step into a fantasy lifestyle of the rich and famous.
Love seeking out even the most unlikely, leading to a finale that will take us right onto book three.
Book 2 of Annie's adventure captures the continuation of romance. With Ramone by her side, as well as, friends Annie has made along the way, Crossing Paths takes us into political conflict, wonderful competitions and surrounding beauty.
Although this is the second book of the series, Nina has written each book also as a stand alone. She has done a wonderful job of intersecting backgrounds of the previous book into Crossing Paths. A must read of all romance adventure readers.
After Annie’s whirlwind trip at sea, she and the famous matador, Ramone, are ready to settle down in “Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny” by Nina Purtee. Newly engaged and carrying his child in her womb, Annie feels at peace. But while planning a wedding and setting their sights on a beautiful home in idyllic Mijas, Spain, Annie and Ramone find themselves at the center of what seems to be a nefarious plan of revenge. After selling out his father to keep Annie and her father safe during the British turnover, Ramone believes Salvador has escaped British confines to enact revenge on them.
But it is not what they expected, and the couple is immersed in a politically-driven feud between the Chinese and the British. They are to head directly to Mallorca with both families and take cover on a secured property. The beautiful Casa de Esperanza overlooks the sea, and despite being tucked away, there will be plenty of activity as Mallorca is hosting the Copa del Ray regatta. Will Annie be able to plan her wedding and prepare for the baby unscathed? Read and find out!
“Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny” is the sequel to “Beyond the Sea.” While it is not a requirement, I recommend reading the first installment before delving into it. Much like the last book, this engaging story is brimming with mesmerizing scenery, political drama, and plenty of romance. While safe in his arms, Annie is still reeling from Ramone’s kidnapping and the aftermath of the trauma he endured, she must do everything possible to keep her growing family safe.
While the political turmoil demanded much of the reader’s attention, I admit it was my least favorite part. The author did an excellent job summarizing the conflict between the Chinese and the British during the turnover, but I still had to do further research. So, I would recommend the book to historical enthusiasts or those who have knowledge of various wars. That being said, the romance and breathtaking scenery were the book’s redeeming qualities for me.
As always, Nina Purtee’s vivid descriptions of the landscape are decadent. The Casa de Esperanza was no exception. Between its perfectly curated floors and the lush garden surrounding it with a spectacular view of the rolling hills and sea, it ignited all my senses. I haven’t had the privilege of vacationing for many years. Still, thanks to the author’s precision, I was swept off my feet to an exotic getaway!
Moreover, I love an immersive love story, and Annie and Ramone’s burgeoning relationship did not disappoint. Brimming with ups and downs, I was easily reeled by their passion. With the relationship still relatively new, the couple faced many obstacles—separation, grief, conflict, and Ramone’s uncertainty regarding his career. Being cooped up with extended family sometimes magnified these issues; it was interesting to see how they worked through them. Still, that passionate spark that brought them together in the first book continued to burn bright, and their intense chemistry was palpable, dripping off the pages! It rivaled many romance books but was done tastefully, leaving out the smut.
“Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny” is an engaging book with plenty to offer readers—a sensual love story, awe-inspiring locations, and some political conflict for history buffs. Between the first installment and the sequel, Nina Purtee has proven she is a gifted writer with a penchant for transporting readers to exotic places!
Unexpected events, opportunities, and encounters can come our way, altering the course of our lives in profound and unforeseen possibilities, this is the reason why life is said to have a knack for surprising us when we least expect it, thereby making it one of the fascinating aspects of our existence.
The book, ‘Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny’ by author Nina Purtee shows us that life’s surprises are not always positive. And while our main protagonist encounters challenges, setbacks, and even tragedies when she least expects them, these unexpected turns are what tested her resilience and forced her to adapt and grow.
With a promising beginning that fills our heart with hope and joy wherein we see Annie finally accepting Ramone’s proposal, the story takes an unexpected twist when his sudden disappearance injects an element of mystery and suspense, shifting the narrative in unexpected direction.
As the couple navigate through a labyrinth of uncertainty and unanswered questions, they evolve, revealing their layers and depths, and though the romance between Ramone and Annie was the highlight, I also loved to read the brotherly bond that he shared with Antonio.
Making hasty judgments about others can lead to misunderstandings, biases, and missed opportunities for meaningful connections, and similar thing happened with Ramone’s father, as we get to realize that maybe we were too quick to judge him in the earlier book.
The author has done an extremely good job at painting all the characters as multifaceted and relatable, enabling readers to empathize with their struggles and cheer them on as they confront unforeseen challenges.
There were times when we understand that the situations that Annie faced were initially difficult to traverse, but as we delve deeper, it showed us how they also offered her opportunities for personal development, strength-building, and gaining new perspectives. Hence, I am going to give this FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book is so amazing! Once again Nina Purtee takes her readers on a wonderful romantic adventure as Annie continues her extraordinary journey and romance with her handsome and dashing matador. In this sequel, “Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny”, Nina entices us with her descriptive writing style that draws us into the story and delights our senses with travel, adventure and romance! I felt as if I was on the road to Destiny with Annie, and sometimes I even imagined I was Annie experiencing the food, culture, friendships and romance! In “Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny” circumstances bring family and friends together on the beautiful island of Mallorca where interesting paths cross, new friendships are made and bonds are formed. I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed and it will leave you wanting to know more about the fascinating character’s paths to destiny!
This is Book Two in the series and I did read this one straight after Book One for continuity. This book is focused in and around Spain rather than the transatlantic journey of Book One. I liked this concentrated geography and loved the references to the beautiful Mediterranean coastline, the Rioja, the tapas and delicious empanadas. There is light and shade in the plot, the excitement of wedding plans juxtaposed with accidents, injuries, mental health challenges and more. I enjoyed and found interesting the details about the King’s Cup Regatta and particularly the Night of the Pilgrims hike. My favourite message from the book was that we are all travelling this same journey called life. My favourite character was still Gennie. I can’t wait to discover the next chapters of these characters’ lives in the Book Three.
This is an enjoyable return to Annie and her journey. Her journey continues as she is ready to start her life with Ramone. But things are not smooth sailing as the danger from the first book returns to threaten every one she loves. Can things be figured out in time for the wedding? Her friends and family are there to help and are a large part of the story. I liked learning more about her friends and family and enjoyed their interactions and changing relationships. I recommend this to readers that enjoy stories about taking chances and figuring out how to live the life you want. I am looking forward to the next book in the series!
Thanks to Love Book Tours and the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
After reading Beyond the Sea ; Annie’s Journey Into the Extraordinary , I was anxiously awaiting the next book to see where her journey took her. Crossing paths did not disappoint! It was a novel filled with travel, intrigue, romance, and colorful characters. I was drawn into Annie’s adventures and the rich friendships she cultivated. Once I started reading , it was hard to put down. Nina is a masterful storyteller and a new favorite author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Another great read by Nina, I’m so glad that I had crossing paths to hand after reading Beyond the sea, I was eager to see what’s next for Annie and Ramone and boy it didn’t dissapoint! This book took us on a journey of pure surprise and suspense, twists and even tragedies following the romance between the two.
This was a real emotional one that has us as the reader feeling the dept of all the situations that occur. Really felt the pilgrimage part of this book. Again such a powerful and diverse character cast it was nice to see the bond between Ramone and his brother Antonio.
I highly recommend a read would be a great beach read/holiday read for sure!
It was nice to revisit these characters again and see what is next for Annie and Ramone, after their surprising announcement at the end of book 1. I always enjoy the range of locations visited and the descriptios of scenery, and seeing old and new characters along for the adventure. There a nice sense of serendipity and curiousity on their journey, and that balanced nicely against the moments of suspense, mystery and tension. I enjoyed seeing Antonio's journey in this too, his achievements and chance for happiness. It has a heartwarming feel throughout, a diverse range of characters, and great themes of empathy, resilience, adapting, and growth.
After reading Beyond the Sea, Annie's Journey into the Extraordinary, I couldn't wait for a sequel to see where Annie would go next. I finally got my hands on Crossing Path and it was worth the wait. I really enjoyed Beyond the Sea, but I absolutely loved Crossing Paths. It has all of the descriptive scenes that Nina Purtee excels at in her writing, but (no spoilers) there were several scenes that had me in tears as I cheered on the characters. If you enjoy romantic adventures with some intrigue and action woven throughout, read Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny. It will not disappoint.
After being introduced to Annie and Ramone in Beyond the Sea, I was interested to find out what would come next for them. So I was very happy that Crossing Paths picked right back up where we left them in book one.
The romance plays a big part in the story, but I love that the drama and adventure is the main focus.
I was captivated by the story due to the author's stunning descriptions of the scenic setting. I was imagining the sights and the places the story takes place in.
Wonderful storytelling, interesting characters, and an engaging plot. It's a book that won't disappoint.
Book one. So good. Twists and turns galore. And I couldn’t put it down. The romance. The mystery. The journey. And then book two. Just really amps up the journey and mystery. If you love romance, traveling and self journeys, you’ll love this duet. And I loved the fact Annie followed her heart throughout her journey no matter her own fears.
