After a breakup, roller derby babe Vic is swimming in delicious flings with all kinds of hotties to soothe her heartache.
Sunshiny writer Gabby and quiet pastry chef Darius are learning new things about themselves and each other in their seven-year relationship. They make a bargain to try each other’s fantasies, and then they meet Vic on an especially decadent hookup app.
It’s supposed to stay casual, but real feelings arise in the heat the trio generates together. With layers of baggage and past mistakes to contend with, the balance of this three-tiered delicacy is in danger of toppling.
None of them are ready for anything more than what they already had. To earn their sweet, happily ever after, they’ll have to face the mess they’ve made, learn to trust each other, and reframe everything they know about love.
Corola De Rosa is a bisexual, Cuban-American style icon from South Florida. She is a Gemini who loves all things decadent. When she’s not writing spicy romance, she’s writing existential poetry.
3.5 ⭐️This was super spicy and very cute ☺️ consent it sexxxy. The plot? Messy just like we like it lol. Gabi and Darius are so sweet, aside from the fact that Darius works in a bakery so he is literally working with sugar, they are incredibly in love and I love that for them.
The way they discuss everything is so wholesome. This is such a wholesome erotica ✨️ They take each other's confessions in stride, discussing everything with clear intention. so when they meet vic its a seamless transition, beautiful. Vic is a messy bitch lol
Gabby hated her corporate job and wants to quit to work at a grocery. Girl, I feel you. I wish some days I worked at a cute bookstore.
The only reason I didn't rate it higher is cause my Demi a$$ is still learning my struggles with erotica. I need time for emotional build up to sexy time. The formula for erotic fiction doesn't work that way. So what I'm saying is, I'M THE PROBLEM IT'S ME 🤣 De Rosa wrote a wonderful story so please take my criticism with a grain of salt. I needed plot sooner and spice later. In this case it was flipped so I struggled a little. But I'm still going to be recommending this to people for an adorable wholesome erotic polycule 💖
Messy is a bold new spicy indie series featuring a queer contemporary romance that dives headfirst into throuple territory. It features Vic, Gabby, and Darius as they navigate the ups, downs, and overall messiness of building a new relationship.
I loved that we got all three POVs, each written with an almost journal-like style, with narrative that pulled me deep into their thoughts. It made their story feel very authentic and relatable. And while food kinks aren’t usually my vibe, the author kept it playful, entertaining, and unexpectedly fun. The spice was spicing, and it’s paired with realistic relationship dynamics and some truly refreshing bisexual rep that’s celebrated rather than sidelined.
Big shoutout to the author for sharing an ARC copy so I could take an early peek at the book!
Messy was such a fun, spicy read, but what I really liked is that there’s an actual story and intention behind everything not just spice for shock value.
The book centers around a couple who decide to intentionally explore their sexuality together, and I loved that it was the FMC who brought the idea up first. It didn’t feel reckless or messy in a bad way it actually felt like a really mature decision rooted in communication and trust. They weren’t trying to fix something broken..they were curious and honest with each other, and that made the whole dynamic work.
When the third person enters the picture, things obviously get hotter, but also way more emotional than expected. What starts as exploration turns into real feelings, and watching that shift happen was one of my favorite parts. Their open relationship dynamic felt playful, exciting, and surprisingly heartfelt.
And yes!!the spice absolutely delivers 🌶️🔥 The cake scene, the whipped cream scene, and the open-relationship moments were chef’s kiss. Fun, sexy, and memorable without feeling overdone.
There’s also a side plot running through the story that adds depth and tension, which I appreciated because it gave the book more substance and kept things interesting beyond the spice.
Overall, Messy lived up to the title in the best way. It was sexy, emotional, chaotic, and just genuinely enjoyable to read. If you like open relationships, strong communication, playful spice, and characters catching feelings when they least expect it, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
I was a bit worried about reading this and it being too much for me, too much smut or decadence, not enough plot or that the use of the food would bother me, but I’ll admit I was wrong. I did not expect to feel as many things as I did with this book but I was pleasantly surprised.
I loved the communication in the relationship between Darius and Gabby, the openness to discussion about the thing they wanted to try, the boundaries and the trust set by each other. I liked the way the awkwardness of trying something new was portrayed, that it took some time to figure out. The book, particularly the sexuality discovery and exploration, was very well written. The plot was easy to follow and it has multiple points of view from each of the main characters. The character themselves are not perfect, they make mistakes, they lie, they feel human and real.
Thank you to the author, Corola De Rosa, for the opportunity to read her book as an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I’m looking forward to reading the next one.
The way this book is written is so smooth, sometimes I get caught up as I read and have to go back and reread something. Not here the book was seamless such an easy read. There was never a point where I was like when is the good stuff gonna happen there wasn't a dull moment. And the way that the relationships and new exploitations unfold is well talked out well discussed and not a shock to the system like some books do with involving new things between partners. Honestly I felt more like this could be an actual real life situation that I could fall into. It didn't seem out of the realm of possibilities that alot of books give you like this could actually happen.
The only kinda negative I have about this book is the epilogue seemed a little rushed and very short. Otherwise this is a 10/10 read the story itself didn't feel rushed and was definitely well thought out and progressed smoothly.
If your looking for a little messy food fun, lgbtqia, poly, and smutty in all the right ways this is definitely the read for you.
I look forward to reading future books from this author!
It's got the perfect blend of spice and heart, and the characters feel so incredibly real.
I've found with other couple-to-throuple romances that sometimes it's hard to balance the relationships between all three characters, especially since two characters start out already together. But Corola De Rosa does such a great job of developing the relationships in a believable and sincere way. The characters find themselves and each other over the course of the book, and I really enjoyed how Gabby and Darius grow throughout the story, both in terms of their relationship but also in terms of themselves as characters.
If you're like me and worried about how the food aspect might be to read (it's not something I've ever read about before, and I have OCD so food stuff can be dicey), I can happily say that De Rosa writes about this very specific yum (pun intended) in a way that is very approachable and didn't put me off at all.
Also? The spice is so good while also being wholesome. Great read all around!!!
Messy by Corola De Rosa is exactly what the title promises—sticky, chaotic, mouthwatering fun that doesn’t hold back for even a second. This book serves delicious in every sense of the word, blending food, heat, and heart into a storyline I truly couldn’t put down.
The throuple dynamic? Absolute perfection. The chemistry between all three characters is electric, tender, and beautifully balanced. I loved how the author handled bisexual representation—openly, confidently, and without unnecessary drama. Everyone gets a moment to shine, and the relationships feel organic despite the wild, indulgent setup.
And speaking of indulgent… the food play scenes? Oh. My. God. De Rosa turns dessert into a full-contact sport, and I mean that as the highest compliment. It’s creative, sensual, and somehow both filthy and sweet at the same time. You will never look at cannolis or whipped cream the same way again.
The dating site element adds such a fun, modern twist, and I loved how it set the stage for the whole throuple to collide in the most chaotic, delectable way.
I’ll say I was very likely not the target audience for this book (it was an arc read for me and I went in more or less blind beyond the genre and relationship configuration). My sensory issues mean food fetishes in general are NOT my thing.
That said? I genuinely enjoyed it anyway. The food involvement didn’t ick me (quite the opposite, actually) and the relationship building was phenomenal.
Especially Gabby’s internal carousel around her sexuality. I’ve ridden that ride before and her struggle was written exceptionally well.
I wasn’t super in love with the way the epilogue was written and probably would have been happier of it had been left put, but overall the book is a fun and, at times, gut punchy ride that lives up to its name.
This was my first step into spicy romance and I am happy to say that I LOVED IT! The three main characters have so much depth into their background and I appreciate that. There are some books out there that have the smallest details on their characters, that's why I enjoyed Corola's writing style, these character have actual backgrounds 😂 something to give the reader a glimpse into what each one is like. I also really enjoyed the good mix between spicy content and non spicy content. This story isn't straight spicy every page you turn, there's a story behind it! I love the representation this book gives as well, it makes you feel like there might just be a place where you belong...if that makes sense. Very beautifully written and I am super excited for the rest of th3 series!
This book is SO fun and I did not want to put it down. Well-written, complex queer characters exploring new angles of their sexuality in a long-term relationship, exploring a new connection with another fully-fleshed out person, and elements of food play. Very thoughtful emotional dynamics and multi-faceted arcs, hot scenes, and funny dialogue. This book has it all, and I can’t wait for the next installments in the series! Run,. don’t walk to read it for when you need a sweet and sexy adventure.
I had the immense please of reading this book before it was released and OMG. Incredible. The characters, the storyline, the steamy scenes… if you’re looking for a fun, sexy read that also reminds us it’s okay to love who we love and find pleasure in life and food and the people around us than this is the book for you. 10/10 recommend and I can’t wait for more!
Messy was such a fun read. I was in such a bad reading slump ending the year but if this is the direction 2026 js heading, I am so here for it!!
The writing style is captivating, easy to read and follow, the MCs are interesting and so unique in their own way, AND the plot is actually interesting. The SPICE in this book is SPICING, and it is SPICING HARD 🔥
CANNOT WAIT til the next release, or anything else that Corolla writes - even if she writes a recipe for fried eggs, idc I’ll read it all 😊
