MAVERICK
Sparks fly from the moment we meet.

Jackson Hunter is trouble with a capital T. Hotheaded. Defiant. Stubborn. Gorgeous. Extraordinarily gifted… I can’t stop thinking about him.

Turns out the onyx-haired, freckled-cheek spitfire is the head handler at the horse rescue center I just bought. I’m hoping we can move on from our rocky start—where he flipped me off…twice.

But nope. No chance.

Jackson is determined to fight me every step of the way. Playing games. Mouthing off. Sending mixed signals. Pushing buttons I didn’t know I had.

None of it works.

The more we get to know each other, the harder I fall for him. We have a connection—no matter how much he tries to deny it.

I want him with me. Near me. Under me.

But I’ve been burned before. When I discover Jackson’s been hiding something big, that spark between us ignites a fire that could destroy everything I thought we could have.

JACKSON
From the second I lay eyes on him, Maverick Benson does nothing but confuse me.

He’s a rich, entitled a**hole who makes it hard to keep thinking he’s a rich, entitled a**hole because he doesn’t do typical rich, entitled a**hole things.

He does sweet, considerate things like making soup for me and my grandpa when we get sick.

Trust-building things like sticking to his word and being a decent, considerate boss.

Lust-inducing things like forgetting to put on a shirt when we’re forced to share a cabin—and a bed—for the weekend.

But I cannot fall in love with him. My whole world is about to change forever.

So I shut him out. Mess with him. Rattle him. Talk back to him. Anything to create some distance between us.

It all fails.

The harder I push, the more he draws me in.

It’s not fair to string him along when we can’t be together. I have to end this before it goes too far.

Only problem? I don’t want to let Maverick go.

ARC REVIEW
This is Tig Miller's debut novel.

PUB DATE: 15 September 2025

🌸If you like quiet, slow-burn love stories, cozy vibes, small towns and... horses, this book is for you!
The main characters are Maverick Benson and Jackson Hunter.
Maverick just bought Silverstone Sanctuary to start a new life away from the city after a bad breakup with his toxic ex boyfriend and because that place reminds him of a lot of sweet memories spent with his grandfather when he was young.
I fell in love with Maverick; he's such a kind, sweet, and patient man!
Very PATIENT, especially with Jackson the head handler at the Silverstone Sanctuary. He’s stubborn, moody and short-tempered and he’s hiding something…
I fell in love with the side characters too especially sweet Sammy, Maverick's 4 years old nephew.
Can’t wait for book 2!! ❤

This is the debut book of this author and it really starts out strong 🥰

The setup of this book had me hooked immediately, add those two amazing MCs and all the interesting side characters and I am hyped 💖

Maverick and Jackson don't meet under the best circumstances as some might say, but I liked the way this whole story started. It represented their dynamic perfectly right at the start and was very entertaining to read 😍

The differences in these two are big. Maverick is wealthy, and comes from older money. Jackson is a hothead, and he has his own not so light problems to deal with.

Jackson really was caught of guard by Maverick, since he is not at all what he first might seem and honestly, same. Maverick truly is amazing.

Oh, this really was an adventure to read, loved it. You definitely should go and read this book if you are into a grumpy yet adorable guy who finds love where he least expected it 🧡

Thank you for the ARC! 3.5⭐️

This is an MM with chronic illness rep, a billionaire MMC, lots of horses and lots of banter.

Maverick was a sweetheart, and Jackson had a lot working against him that made him understandably prickly (thankfully, Maverick is also quite patient).

As for the story, I will say this probably will be for a lot of people, but I don’t think it was for me. It wasn’t poorly written or anything — the plot was good, I just didn’t love the romance.

I’m a huge fan of angst, tension, slow, sizzling burns, but this felt (to me) a bit too long — like the slowness of the burn didn’t quite pay off.

But this is a debut novel and I would definitely read more from this author in the future, it’s just not a favorite for me.

The plot line of the story was great but the pacing itself felt longer than the slowest burn. I am compassionate with Jackson’s character but it also felt like his personality was dragged out a bit too much for my liking. I wanted to love the book because there were so many surprise side stories involved and it was a great concept but I think somethings could’ve been reduced from the book. Overall it’s a good read, but I didn’t necessarily love it.

Just One Look is a debut novel by Tig Miller and is one of favorite reads of 2025.

We are first introduced to Maverick Benson sitting in bar in Silverstone, contemplating the start to a new life, a sober life. He’s recently purchased the horse sanctuary in town as his older brother is trying to revive the family winery a short distance away. Jackson is a spit-fire of a man who can barely contain his temper and rarely bothers with a filter for is mouth. He’s hot-headed and brash and Maverick can’t seem to look away. It’s clear Jackson doesn’t like him but things go from bad to worse when Jackson learns that Maverick is not only the youngest son of the famous Benson family but also his new boss. In Just One Look you can expect an enemies to lovers MM romance with chronic illness rep, forced proximity, one bed and slow burn.

Maverick Benson is the son of a billionaire who spent his summers in Silverstone with his grandfather riding horses at the local horse sanctuary. His time in Silverstone contains some of his most fond childhood memories and in an attempt to figure out his life and his future, he makes a decision to purchase the sanctuary from the current owners. He’s expecting it to be a lot of work with hopefully some reward. What he’s not expecting is to be the new boss of the prickly but gorgeous man he met outside the local bar.

Jackson Hunter’s family has been involved in the horse sanctuary for decades. Jackson has grown up around the animals and it’s clear to everyone who knows him that he has a special gift. He might be a talented horse whisperer but he has little patience for people, especially the rich, entitled ones that Silverstone tends to attract. The horse sanctuary has been bought and sold so many times he’s lost count. None of the owners have any experience with horses or sanctuaries and once they realize their investment will have little return, they run for the hills. He expects much the same from Maverick Benson. To make matters worse, Jackson is on a time limit. His new diagnosis has him scared for his future. His life as he knows it is getting ready to completely change but little does he know, Maverick will be at the helm of that change just as much as this diagnosis.

As someone with a chronic illness, whose life was irrevocably changed in an instant, this book was something I related to in every way. Just One Look was absolutely amazing. The story was perfectly paced and I just couldn’t put it down. Both the plot and character development were perfectly done. Jackson is a force to be reckoned with as his illness quickly takes over his life. Maverick is probably the most patient MMC I’ve read. He has demons he’s dealing with but something in him seems to recognize that Jackson is also dealing with something, even if he’s not being honest about what it is. Chronic illness and family traumas lead to these two tip toeing around what they truly want and I just couldn’t get enough.

✨ ARC Review - Just One Look by @tigmiller✨

I signed up for this ARC as a spur-of-the-moment decision, as the blurb looked super intriguing, and it had many of the tropes and things I love in a book (boss/employee, class difference, grumpy MC, push/pull, etc.). I was NOT expecting the book I received. Just One Look slotted easily into one of my Top 5 Fave books this year, if not of all time. The level of emotion Tig’s writing takes on is amazing, and it easily pulls you right into the story. I was expecting a good boss/employee book with some angst from a health issue, but instead I read a book that was so well written and emotionally deep that it took my breath away.

Jackson and Maverick’s story starts with the traditional boss/employee and class difference trope, with Jackson being the feisty horse handler at the horse rescue that Maverick bought to find purpose in his life again. Maverick is immediately taken with Jackson, but Jackson tries his best to keep Maverick at arm's length because he’s hiding something big that will change everything in his life. Now, I am a pattern recognition person, and I’ve read a lot (A LOT) of books, so I began tossing around in my head some ideas of what this secret is and how the book will play out. You guys - I was so far off and I couldn’t be more glad for it. Jackson’s secret will break your heart, and the progression of the story and Jackson’s life was written so well that I felt like I was on this journey with him. I cried my eyes out as Jackson began to open up to Maverick and realize he wasn’t on this journey alone and wasn’t a burden to anyone who loved him. Though Maverick made a few missteps, he’s such a golden retriever in this book, and wants nothing more than to love Jackson.

I can’t wait for the next book that Tig writes if this is what they’re starting out with. Seriously. Sign me up for everything. I usually try to take notes when I read ARC books, and the only thing I wrote down for this was “I LOVE THIS BOOK”. No notes.

Rounding up from 4.5 because while this book isn’t perfect, it managed to take a lot of tropes/storylines we’ve seen before and make them feel fresh and interesting.

This is Tig Miller’s first novel, and it is a wonderfully solid debut. The MCs are complex and unique, the story intriguing, with side characters and subplots well developed, without overwhelming the story.

Maverick is a rich guy with a heart of gold, but not in a way that he’s too good to be true. He is a recovering alcoholic and still processing the aftermath of a tumultuous breakup. He is intrigued by Jackson from the start and does his best to win over the stubborn, broody horse trainer.

Jackson is very rough around the edges, but you still root for him. He is a true “troubled” MC, and I appreciate that he doesn’t magically change when he starts to fall for Maverick. He struggles to accept that he is worth fighting for and isn’t a burden, which isn’t something that a person can easily reprogram.

The push-pull between the MCs isn’t overdone, and despite the fact that Jackson is keeping the secret of his medical diagnoses from Maverick, that fact didn’t frustrate me like it normally would. The same goes for the third act break-up. It makes sense with what the characters have been through and how things unfold. That, I think, speaks to the strength of the story. It hits all the right beats without feeling like it’s trying too hard. You get so drawn into the story and the characters, and there’s nothing that takes you out of the world or stumbles the flow of the narrative.

The side characters are also very well developed, with each MC having friends and family to support them but also speaking the hard truths they need to hear. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am excited for the couple that will be in the second one!

Tig Miller has packed a lot of different emotions into this story. I absolutely loved Maverick and wanted to throttle and knock some sense into Jackson. Maverick is a sweetheart with a warm heart. He is loyal, honest, caring, and kind. He is an amazing uncle and I enjoyed reading his interactions with his nephew. I really liked that Maverick doesn’t shy away from asking for help when he is struggling and tends to lean on people he is close to. Jackson is a total opposite of Maverick. He is grumpy, short tempered, impatient and stubborn but loves his family and best friend. Jackson is an exceptionally talented horse handler who loves and prefers to be in a company of horses instead of people. I have complicated feelings for Jackson’s character. I understand the emotional turmoil he goes through due to his diagnosis but I don’t like the way he treats Maverick. Maverick turns backward to accommodate Jackson, but all Jackson does is provoke a fight with Maverick, keeping him at bay and concealing his true feelings. Relationship between Jackson and Maverick wouldn’t have happened if it was not for Maverick pursuing Jackson relentlessly. One thing I appreciated in Jackson is that he was self aware of his rude behavior towards Maverick. Maverick definitely is Green Flag in every way that counts and Jackson is definitely lucky to have him in his corner. With that said, I enjoyed this book for all the funny and teasing scenes, emotional conversations, sweet and thoughtful gestures and amazing side characters who were successful in stealing my heart right along side Maverick.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5

Kudos on this debut! It's incredibly strong and I never would have guessed it was a debut based on how well it was written.

I'll be upfront, this book has a lot of tropes that I love (enemies to lovers, slow burn, one bed, there's horses!) so I was already predisposed to liking it. I purposely chose it for those tropes I love since I don't read a lot of MM romances, however, the synopsis here pulled me in and I wanted to give it a go. I was not disappointed!

Maverick has just purchased a horse sanctuary after a less than stellar cycle of life and needs something entirely new. As the hot-headed horse trainer/whisperer at said sanctuary, Jackson pushes all of Maverick's buttons in every way possible. Both have great development especially since they have so many layers to them (e.g. Maverick as an uncle, Jackson's chronic illness, etc.). Those layers definitely contribute to the slow burn, and it is a slooooow burn. As I said though, I love a slow burn, and this one is filled with yearning as these enemies turn to lovers.

There will be a sequel so any debut issues will most likely be worked out there.

The burn combined with the tribulations made me fall in love with the MMCs and I can't wait for the next book!

Thank you Tig Miller and The Author Agency. I was given this book as an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

Wow. For a debut book, it was so good!

The story follows Maverick, the sweet son of a billionaire who recently purchased Silverstone Sanctuary, and Jackson, the stubborn cowboy head handler at the sanctuary who’s hiding a secret. From the very beginning, there’s this crackling tension and undeniable attraction between them that just jumps off the page. Both guys have messy pasts and emotional scars, and it was a wild roller coaster ride watching them crash, stumble, and finally find their way to each other.

I really enjoyed the banter between Maverick and Jackson. It kept things light even when emotions were heavy. The side characters were amazing too; they added humor, support, and drama at just the right moments. Sensitive readers should definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in, because there are some tougher themes mixed into the romance.

To be completely honest, it took me a little while to get hooked. I think around the 30–40% mark is when I really sank into the story. Before that, I started and stopped a few times. But once I hit the meat of the book? I devoured it in one sitting. Could not put it down.

When I saw there’s going to be a sequel, I was thrilled. I’m not ready to let go of these characters or this world. That said, I did feel like a few things were rushed near the end, and I still had some questions that weren’t fully resolved. But overall? A really strong debut and a romance that hit me in the feels.

If you love slow burn, banter, cowboys, secrets, meddling side characters, and emotional angst, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

Happy reading friends,

For a first book? Wow

Sure it was a little wordy, a little repetitive at places, probably could have cut at least 50 pages, but still. Well done.

Jackson was hard to like. I saw what he was dealing with, but he was really prickly. Big ole chip on his shoulder about things that happened before he was born. Ok, and stuff after he was born. But dang. Lighten up a tiny bit.

Maverick was almost too easy going. For someone who previously worked in corporate America and now owns the horse sanctuary, he lets a lot roll off his back.

Opposites do attract.

I really enjoyed the beginning. Strong start, got to know the characters, a little background. And the chemistry was off the charts. But Jackson's stubbornness led to a sloooooooooooooooooooow burn. It was like come on already. This is where a lot of repetition came in. The introspection from both characters was the same several times over. I would have loved to see what happened when Maverick started firing people from the sanctuary. It's mentioned that he did, but from meeting at least one hot head at the beginning- I would have loved to see that confrontation. Missed opportunities for some plot points.

I did enjoy the premise of the book and getting to know a slew of other characters. Jackson's family, Maverick's family (omg can we love Sammy any more?), friends (PIP!) and even some people in town. I was happy to see that there will be more books with different characters from this world and I am betting that subsequent books will just get better and better.

Rounding my 3 1/2 up to a 4 because for a first book, really well done.

Maverick, recently single after his boyfriend cheated on him with well, pretty much everyone, needs a change of scenery; he buys a horse sanctuary that needs a lot of work.

Jackson, head horse trainer at said sanctuary, has a chip on his shoulder. He's heard it all before from the many previous owners how they are going to fix things up and get everything the way it needs to be.

It's a clash of wills from day one. Sometimes, though, attraction is masked as attitude and sassiness. 😉

Maverick and Jackson soon realize that they really do like each other and become friends and then more thanks to meddling family members. But Jackson has secrets he's keeping. He wants to keep them to himself because once they get out what they've started will end.

This book really made you think. What would you do if you were faced with trials that were going to change your whole world?

Maverick and Jackson were relationship goals in the end. 🎆🎇

I can't wait for book two. I'm excited to read more about Sammy, Maverick's little nephew.

This book was absolutely amazing and it's their debut novel I can't believe it.

I loved that it was as slow burn. It had me hooked and didn't let me go until the end.

Love nothing more than two broke boys finding love in each other but they did have to go through an emotional rollercoaster to get there.

I loved maverick he kind and sweet and patient and wears a suit that he looks hot in.
Jackson who was the horse handler at the horse sanctuary. Jackson was moody and stubborn and short tempered with a secret

I love the banter between them and chemistry between them.

I fell In love with the side characters pip and Sammy can't wait to see more of everyone in future books.

Cant wait for book 2

This book was giving me everything until it wasn't. It lost me at the 70% mark. The slow burn turned into nothing but ashes. The tension turned into reading the same lines repeatedly from Jackson. And in the last 10% of the book more "secrets" came out that feel unresolved.

Nothing frustrates me more than wishing for the characters to get together most of the book, to then have it turn into a 3rd act breakup - if you can even call it one since they skirt around everything - to only have them get together in the last chapters.

I love messy, tension, pining filled books, but when the book is 99%that and not any of their established relationship it feels unresolved to me. I need all the happiness of them being together after being emotionally edged the entire book and I didn't get that.

Here's are somethings I did love:
♡ Maverick's connection with his nephew Sammy
♡ Sammy and is sassy junk food loving self
♡ Clancy's quick wit and charm
♡ Pip for always calling Jackson on his bullcrap

Thank you to Tig Miller and The Author Agency for the ARC!

Congratulations, Tig Miller, on your debut novel. This was a good start!

Main leads: Maverick Benson and Jackson Hunter are good characters with a solid backstory, which hooks the reader to them. Maverick is a recovering alcoholic who is trying to turn his life around. He just bought Silverstone Sanctuary to start a new life away from the city after a bad breakup with his toxic ex-boyfriend. Jackson is suffering from a chronic illness and is preparing himself for his new doom reality.

Romance/Chemistry: Calling the main leads enemies would be wrong; it was more of an irritation borne out of Jackson's struggles, but relation-building was nicely done. Maverick's deep understanding and genuine care for Jackson spark a heartwarming and tender feeling throughout the story, making it incredibly easy to root for their relationship and anticipate their future together.

Side characters: Here, side characters are not just for setting up for the next books, but also elevate this one. Clancy, the Jackson sisters and their partners, Pip & Wagner, Ollie, and the delightful Sammy, each play a vital role in enriching the story.

All in all, this is a slow-burn romance with cosy vibes, set in small towns and featuring intrusive family & friends with horses!

ARC Review: Thank you to Tig Miller and The Author Agency for sending me a copy of Just One Look to read and review.

This is an MM romance, and it’s Tig Miller’s debut. I think this book was a home run. I loved all of the characters in this book. Maverick and Jackson both have meddling family members. There is a plot twist that I didn't see coming, and it had me screaming! I was chuckling at some parts and crying at others.

Jackson is the hot-headed lead trainer at the horse sanctuary that Maverick just bought. The first time they met, he flipped Maverick off twice. He has a chronic degenerative illness, and his internal struggle with that is a big part of the book. I love Jackson’s relationship with his meddling grandfather. I was heartbroken by Jackson’s journey, but the end of the book had me smiling for him.

Maverick is immediately labeled as a rich asshole by Jackson the moment they meet. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. He’s a loving brother and uncle. He’s less than a year removed from a relationship that left him broken. He’s drawn to Jackson from the moment they meet. I loved Maverick’s determination to break down Jackson’s walls. If you love a grand gesture, this book has a good one.

I know this is a debut novel and overall it was ok and maybe it's just a me thing but I wanted to enjoy this more than I did. It just didn't hit that mark for me.

I think this was the slowest of slow burns I have every read. I was thinking it was going to lead up to something but it just fell flat for me. It just felt that over the length of the book, it just became repetitive and could have been reduced a few hundred pages to make it work better.

I did like the characters. Maverick was super sweet and extremely patient with Jackson. Jackson has a ton of secrets that come out towards the end and I wish we had more time to be able to digest everything with that aspect.

Now don't get me wrong I love angst, I love tension, I love messy at times, but I felt that was the highlight of the book and their relationship took the back burner and didn't have that connection that I was desperate for.

This a debut book by this author. I really enjoyed the story. We have a small town slow burn MM romance. Maverick just broke up with his boyfriend who cheated on him and most of his friends knew about it. So he’s floundering. He moved from NY back to this small town where he was loved by his grandfather. He decides to buy a horse sanctuary that his grandfather lived next door to, even though he’s a little clueless about how to rescue and take care of horses. Jackson has lived in this town pretty much all his life. He’s had health issues all his life. He’s a high school dropout and he’s quick to anger and reacting to things. But, he’s an excellent horse whisperer and he works at the sanctuary. Maverick is immediately attracted to and drawn to him but because of his health issues Jackson would prefer not to get involved. This story has really great representation of a chronic illness and addiction, these things are handled with great sensitivity and respect. I enjoyed the romance between these men even though it took them forever to get there. I’m eager to read the next book by this author.

This book had me in an emotional choke hold throughout the whole book. I was hooked and pulled in from the start. Both of the MMCs are a little bit broken trying to find their way. Maverik is just out of a messy breakup and wanting a fresh start he buys the horse sanctuary where he has so many fond memories. Jackson is the head handler and a grumpy stubborn man who has a lot going on and the weight of the world is on his shoulders. The pull between Maverick and Jackson is strong but Jackon does everything in his power to push him away not wanting to ever be a burden on anyone. This story is emotional and heartwarming. It takes them a long way to figure things out and the patience Maverick has with Jackson was so beautiful, he gives him the space and strength to let him in. I loved the side characters they brought some amazing banter and fun aspects to an otherwise emotional journey. I will definitely be looking out for the next book in this series. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.

Very nice story!!! Maverick’s struggle with both his inner demons and his parent’s mistakes make for an interesting character. He’s not at all who Jackson accuses him of being. Jackson, however, truly has a prickly personality (that’s an understatement if ever there was one!) His looming disability is a cloud over his head, rapidly descending. He’s trying very hard to be able to continue living independently.
The characters are great. Some definitely have their quirks that make them memorable. Maverick wears a suit to work in his office in a horse barn. Jackson wears a murderous glare like a suit of armor. Clancy doesn’t want to be called Grandfather because he’s not an old man. He might be the best character in the book!
I loved everyone in the story, except maybe Ridge. I do suspect there’s more in him than meets the eye. The setup for the next book makes it look wonderful, too. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it as much as I did this one!

I can't believe this is a debut novel! Just wow.
There's nothing I like more then 2 sad boys finding love and this book has that im spades.
The banter Maverick and Jackson have with eachother is amazing! Between Jackson trying to push everyone away with his surly attitude and Maverick loving that in a man you get so much funn banter that had me laughing out loud.
After Jackson tries to put up boundaries so he doesnt have to tell Maverick why he cant be in a relationship Jackson's grandfather and Mavericks brother and nephew concoct a funny way to trap them at a cabin with no cell service and no way out. This move works but also backfires because Jackson is holding onto a secret and Maverick believes they are moving forward secret free. Jackson is the most guarded person ever and its heartbreaking to read but so worth it to get to the happy part.
I can't wait for the next book in this series because I need all the books now lol

Just One Look had me hooked from the very first chapter. Maverick Benson rolls back into Silverstone ready for a clean slate and a sober start. Buying the horse sanctuary feels like the right move—until he realizes his new right-hand man is Jackson Hunter, the sharp-tongued, gorgeous horse whisperer he already clashed with outside a bar. To make things worse? Jackson’s not just prickly, he’s now Maverick’s employee. Enemies-to-lovers, one bed, and forced proximity—yeah, the tension is delicious.

What really sets this book apart is the heart behind it. Jackson’s chronic illness adds depth and realism, while Maverick’s patience and quiet strength make him one of the most endearing MMCs I’ve read in a while. Their story balances fiery banter with vulnerable, emotional moments that had me rooting for them every step of the way.

For a debut, this is amazing—tight pacing, strong character arcs, and just the right amount of angst. I can’t wait to see more from this universe!

This is Tig Miller's debut as an author, and I have to say that Just One Look was very well done! I really enjoyed Maverick and Jackson and their fireworks.

Jackson, the lead horse trainer, at Maverick's horse sanctuary he just bought have a tug of war going on between them. From the beginning, you are just waiting for them to drop the rope and grab each other. Tig handles the story and the characters deftly while delivering a fun read.

Cowboy romances are usually my thing, but I am really glad I read this book. I really enjoyed it, and read it through a couple of sittings. Also, I loved the chronic illness rep in this book.

Can't wait to read my next Tig Miller novel and one day say that I remember their first book. :)

* Originally, this book had a nice blue cover, but it was recently redone with a hot cowboy. I approve.

This book was provided by Tig Miller and The Author Agency in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent debut novel

This debut novel was well written with a wonderful heartwarming storyline. The characters were really great and very good individual personalities which is something I love. The setting was nice and detailed well to give me the visual i need when i read. I love Sammy he is probably my favorite part of the story super cute. The side characters were actually all really great. The only deduction of a star was the pacing was off a little for me. A very common issue when I read for sure and maybe its just more bothersome to me. I don't mind slow burn but I don't prefer for most of the storylines to be resolved or to come together in like the last chapter or two of the book. I would like the resolution to come with a little more book left to get a feel for the new vibes of the couple. Overall I really loved the book and look forward to the next one :) highly recommend giving this a read!

A debut MM romance that will put you through the wringer, tears guaranteed, and leave you with a hell of a lot of hope and a heart chuck full of love! It’s attraction at literally THE worst possible time, secrets meant to protect that hold the power to destroy, push and pull that is frustrating in the extreme, completely understandable, and absolutely crushing, finding love when you don’t even want it, and holding on with everything you’ve got, and there is no way you can get to the end of this read and not feel a profound sense of loss and all the freedom of being seen, understood, and loved as you are, because the right person found you. Unique and touching, Maverick and Jackson don’t give you the easy love story, they give you the one that hurts, that has to be fought for, and that is richer and more meaningful for it, and it’s incredible.

Jackson and Maverick 🥹

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶.5

This debut MM novel had me feeling so many emotions! I was laughing, crying, and a little angry. Tig Miller wrote such an amazing book, and I absolutely love Jackson and Maverick.

Jackson has so many reasons to be the way he is, but his growth to finally believing that he deserves happiness just like everyone else is so beautiful. The banter between him and Mav was perfect.

Maverick has been through so much like Jackson, but in different things and ways. He shows up time and time again, fighting for what he feels is right no matter how hard he is pushed away.

Clancy had me cracking up! Definitely one of my favorite side characters along with Wagner, Pip, Sammy, & Ollie!

I can't wait for book #2 and see that relationship grow!

'Rough and soft.
Light and dark.
There are so many sides to him. Jackson Hunter isn’t just complicated; he’s the most intriguing, multifaceted person I’ve ever met.
I have to be careful. I need to keep my wits about me, and I can’t use Jackson as a means to feeling something. I shouldn’t rely on anyone for that. I have to do that on my own.
But man, do I feel so many things for this guy.'

I really enjoyed this book. A good enemies-to-lovers romance. Good world building and characters. I liked both Maverick and Jackson- Mav especially. These two butt heads a lot and Jackson was mostly on the offensive. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and Mav begin to get under Jackson's walls. I also liked the supporting characters.

I don't know if this is Tig's debut novel or just debut in this genre, but a great first book and I would read more from this author. 4 stars

I picked up Just One Look by Tig Miller without any expectations since it’s her debut MM romance—and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised! Maverick is kind, patient, and easy-going, while Jackson is fiery, stubborn, and full of attitude. Watching them clash, banter, and slowly fall for each other was such a fun ride.

The emotional depth between them really hit me—the vulnerability, the found family moments, and even the small gestures, like cooking for each other when sick, made the romance feel grounded and sweet.

My Rating: 3.5/5

It’s not perfect, but for a debut, it’s an incredibly promising start. I’m excited to see where Tig Miller goes from here. Thanks to Tig Miller and The Author Agency for the ARC!

As a debut, this author has done an incredible job in weaving this story.
This is Maverick and Jackson’s story.
Jackson is a stubborn, hothead, who is a gifted horse whisperer at a rescue center which Maverick has just purchased. The sparks fly between them from the moment they meet, and Jackson knows how to push Mavericks buttons.
This is a well written easy to read, slow burn, with found family, friendships, emotions, tension, vulnerability, forced proximity, enemies / lovers, boss / employee, secrets, humour, witty banter, challenges, chronic illness, trust, revelations, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, small-town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
