I went into this expecting a fun, steamy shifter romance, but Nightfang delivered so much more. The writing was smooth, the pacing quick, and the characters full of depth. The heroine starts off feeling out of place, just a fragile human surrounded by strong wolves, but watching her discover the magic the Moon gifted her was both exciting and emotional. It’s rare that a paranormal romance gets me emotional, but this one had its moments.
What I appreciated most was how Ellis didn’t shy away from showing the darker side of pack politics. Not everyone is thrilled to welcome an outsider, and the tension this created felt real. I found myself almost yelling at some of the side characters for the way they treated her. It made her eventual victories all the more satisfying.
That said, I will admit some of the pacing in the middle felt a little stretched, especially during the training sequences. But the payoff in the climax was worth it. The mate was protective but not overbearing, which I really liked. Sometimes alpha wolf heroes can veer into toxic territory, but Ellis balanced him well dominant, yes, but respectful and tender with his partner.
Definitely recommend to anyone who loves shifters with a fresh magical twist.
