A panther has stalked me, I crowd-surfed in a wheelchair, jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and won a gold medal.
I hit tennis balls with royalty, won eight US Opens and been face-to-face with Hollywood starlets.

I received the Paralympic flame from the Prime Minister, finished the year world number one six times and appeared on a postage stamp with great hair. I was also inducted into the biggest Hall of Fames tennis has to offer.

These are things I never could have imagined as a sixteen-year-old when the surgeon walked in to that hospital room and said, “Unfortunately we’re going to have to amputate.”

Despair can be lonely, but beyond it the sweetest things are the ones you don’t even know of yet, but only if you’re willing to find them.

What an outstanding memoir — a heartfelt and deeply moving account of the resilience, determination, and perseverance required to recover from major trauma and overcome the obstacles on the path to sporting excellence. David Hall masterfully captures the highs and lows, and even the “ins and outs” (pun intended of course), of life as a professional athlete, presenting them in a way that is both engaging and inspiring.
This book is truly difficult to put down, and it should be essential reading for anyone navigating life after trauma, as well as for any young person aspiring to succeed in professional sport.

David Hall’s memoir Superbeast is a thunderous celebration of resilience, grit and determination. If you’re a sports fan, a seeker of inspiration, or someone who’s ever faced a moment that demanded reinvention, Superbeast will speak to you. It’s a hilarious, defiant and deeply human story.
