Wow!

The Rogue Shifter Series and Charlie's Stories are excellent! I find myself unable to put them down, even fighting sleep with my head bobbing as I try to read just a few more pages. The cast of characters, the situations and trouble they get into will keep you captivated.

Though I loved Gayle Parness's seven-part Rogues Shifter Series, the idea of the first of a three-book spin-off based on a couple of teenaged male shapeshifters on their own for the first time, trying to have an adventure or two away from family (over)protectiveness, didn't exactly sweep-me-off-my-feet. So I was surprised at how completely engrossed I became in the novel and how much FUN it was!  The paranormal and the romance elements I'd loved in the prior series worked perfectly with the coming-of-age and accepting yourself, ALL of yourself, story-line. Charlie's struggles with his powers and how best to use them are driven by the very magic he doesn't, thus far, fully understand. He represses what he can't yet accept and sometimes exploits what he hasn't learned to control. And, as always with Parness's writing, there's lots of humor. Watching Jay, the goof-ball, junkfood binge-eater mature into a sexy, loving, and responsible young adult (as well as an excellent chef) had me laughing out loud as well as quite moved. Also, for those who have read the Rogues Shifter Series--a great place to start--there's a new type of supernatural on the scene with interesting abilities but not always the best judge of when to use them. Can't wait for the next book in the trilogy!

Breaking Out Book One in The Triad Series by Gayle Parness

This book was about a young man named Charles who is a shapeshifter/cheetah, demon and fae. According to the prophecy Charles will be leading the fae into battle.
Charles is tired of everyone telling him what he must do, so he heads off to L.A. with his friend Jay who is a bear shifter.
Charles wants to start his own business to help other supernaturals that can't go to the cops or even their own for help. Triad would be name of his Private Investigation business.

Once there in L.A. they happen to see someone being abducted by werewolves. This person turns out to be a girl/something very interesting!

I enjoyed Breaking Out with it's many fascinating characters ranging from shape shifters, fae, werewolves, vampires and many more. The storyline is interesting and exciting. I particularly enjoyed Ivy's character, a strong female with plenty of sass.

I give Breaking Out 4 stars fot it's adventurous story and brilliant characters that come to life as you read about them.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy.
