*The Highlander’s Fake Wife is a steamy Scottish historical romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages) written by Eloise Madigan and published by Cobalt Fairy.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
This is the fourth book in the Legacy of Highland Lairds series. Unfortunately, I haven't yet read the previous books, but I will go back and read them. Therefore, I am not sure if I have missed any background on the characters and other clans involved in the book. This, however, didn't stop my enjoyment. I just know from the author's other works that she tends to mention characters from other books throughout her series.
Trying to escape torture or worse, Olivia and her Mother, Kathleen, are running to escape their clan, who have turned on them, when they are separated. Olivia manages to get away, only to be pulled out of the water by her worst enemy, the laird responsible for killing her father and Brother and putting them in this predicament. To keep her safe, he insists the pair start pretending to be betrothed. But it becomes quite apparent that it might not be just pretend.
I enjoy the author's writing style and the banter she creates between her main characters. Arthur and Olivia were a great match, and their constant rivalry and witty comebacks had me turning the pages. Whilst it is not a bodice ripper per se, there are enough steamy moments as their relationship blooms to keep the reader entertained.
This story started with a bang and slowed down to a fizzle. The story gets lost with all the side details. The story refers to Arthur murdering the heroines father and brother, but he is conveniently in the woods just in time to save her from drowning. Within a couple of chapters, he is forgiven. They have known each other for less than a week. The villain and true plot are introduced at the end of the book. Arthur is such a great warrior that has no problem defending against multiple adversaries several times . Not the best read.
I enjoyed Arthur's and Olivia story, it was quite an adventure that captured my interest from the beginning until the very end. I've enjoyed each story in this "Legacy of Highland Lairds"series, I think Arthur is very well written his strength, humor, compassion when needed ,his love for his family and clan a strong Alpha Laird. Every character is very well written as was the continued plot of this series also continued characters, and of course finding and falling in love in the end is always a happy ending 🤗 a Good Read .
Not a lot of steam, if that's what you're looking for, but there are a couple of open door scenes. The story shows the emotional growth of Arthur from being a rake to finding love with one woman. I enjoyed the story but found that there were some story lines or situations that were not fully developed and could have been explained more in depth.
This is a good story, one that will keep you guessing...... Arthur is that Laird who never expected to marry until he rescues his Selkie, Olivia. He proposes a "fake" betrothal to protect her, but can she change his mind. An un expected enemy lurks, can they take the love they develop and survive to win at life and live.
Enemies to lovers in the Highlands! Lady Olivia flees betrayal and danger, only to be rescued by Laird Arthur—her father’s enemy. A fake engagement turns into real love as Arthur protects her from repeated threats and discovers he wants more than duty—he wants a future with Olivia.
Romantic, redemptive, and rich with Highland heart.
Olivia and her mother are running away from the massacre of their clan. They get separated. Olivia runs into Arthur and he saves her from drowning. She ends up as his betrothed to keep his council off his back and they find that they really want to be married live together.
Selkie, a nickname for Olivia and Arthur had several. She was a sharp tongued lass rescued from drowning, while escaping her traitorist clan, by Arthur. Their love story grows from there and is a lesson in loyality and strength of love. I gave this read 5 stars because of the depth of characters and storyline not to mention a very handsome, caring hero.
This story flows brilliantly! It had the most amazing angst, trepidation and joy. From start to finish I loved the characters and story. But the ending was simply the best.
Arthur saves Olivia then suggests a fake betrothal. However, she wants children and he doesn't. Her clan wants her and her mother dead. Can he protect them? This story has a wow ending that you don't see coming. Loved it!!!
This was a very interesting and exciting adventure to read. The battle scenes were incredible. The characters were amazing. I loved Rosie and Maisie!!! Thanks for sharing your story!!!
A lovely love story of Arthur and Olivia, he finds her drowning in the tarn, saves her and talks her in to being his fake betroth. The book has a great storyline with plenty of action to the story. I really enjoyed this book
The story is captivating! The characters are most engaging especially the muscular sexy males and Arthur so intriguing! The pacing is good! Yes, a good read!
