Flickers

Rate this book
'Flickers' captures the sunlit essence of Lisbon with sharp precision, moving through streets and memories with the same fragmentary energy as its title suggests. The collection's blend of pop-culture references and literary echoes captures the pulse of our time, while its thoughtful exploration of identity and love remains grounded in the winding streets of the city.

Christina Hennemann

Flickers opens in Lisbon’s blue hour and stays out until every window goes dark. These poems walk the city by tram-line and footpath, tuning themselves to minor salt crust on iron railings, the click of laundry poles at dawn, graffiti half-erased by rain. Each piece keeps what daylight forgets—cigarette sparks on azulejo tile, a green flash on the Tagus, a sentence overheard and lost around the next corner. The book drifts sideways, collecting small evidences—espresso rings on marble, neon buzzing itself to sleep, a yellow tram idling like a held breath. Every page is a single exposure; together they form a long contact sheet, a map built from afterimages.

Read straight through and the city unfurls like a night walk that refuses to end. Open at random and you find a self-contained vignette—brief, electric, already fading. Flickerstrusts the reader to connect the glow between frames, deciding what lingers and what ebbs with the tide.

This poetic collection unfolds like a series of unfiltered whispers and half-lit moments, immersing you in the raw pulse of human experience. Through a unique and grunge-tinged lens, Adam’s words uncover the beauty in fractured moments, the intriguing puzzle pieces of the mind and the compelling mystery woven through everyday life. His poems invite you into his mind— to ponder the shadows and sparks that shape our existence with sheer honesty and depth.
