In an alternate universe, the ancient concept of a slave class continues to exist. While a few countries have finally ended the brutal practice, the United States isn’t one of them. Once born a slave, one remains a slave, with only a few laws for protection against the whims of a cruel master.
Eighteen-year-old Oliver is a newly-minted pleasure slave. Trained to be a living sex toy, he has been sold to a wealthy widower. Being gay, Oliver has high hopes he will enjoy his new life. Unfortunately, his master has a sadistic streak and treats him like an object. Oliver has no choice but to endure and make the best of his lot.
Ben has reluctantly come home to help his father temporarily with the family business. He’s surprised to learn his father has bought a beautiful young slave boy to warm his bed. He doesn’t approve of slavery and is disconcerted by his attraction to the boy. Oliver is equally wary of Ben’s kindness and appeal. No other free person has ever treated him with such care.
There can never be anything between them, however, so they fight their growing desire. But despite their resolve, Oliver and Ben grow closer, tumbling into a clandestine affair. In a world in which slaves have no choice and falling in love with a freeman is the stuff of movies, they risk everything to be together.

I enjoyed it for the 2nd time as much as the 1st :)
ORIGINAL REVIEW: In the first place, I must be honest, I'm a sucker for slave stories and that's about it.
Well, I like "my" slaves sweet and adorable but I also love them used and abused and I can't help it. So as long as my kink is concerned, Body Slave falls beautifully into this category...
Oliver is a body slave to Mr. Tanner, a wealthy lumberyard owner and a cruel man. He is supposed to be an always-available, mindless sex toy - a pastime to entertain his Master and sometimes also to the Master's guests.
But everything changes when Ben, his Master's son, returns home from his European journey. Oliver instantly feels attracted to him. Ben, after having gone without slaves for a long time, can't come to terms with his father's treatment of his domestic and company slaves and hates watching Oliver debased.
One day Mr. Tanner has to travel to Canada leaving Oliver behind. Canada has abolished slavery and he doesn't want Oliver to be taken away from him for legal reasons. And that's when the real story begins...
The passion and affection between Ben and Oliver grows rapidly and undeniably... But there's always a "but", isn't it?? ;) Sorry guys buyt you have to read Body Slave to know more about those 2 hot guys. I just fell in love with them, Oliver especially! ;) Body slave is hot, a bit kinky and with surprisingly well-developed storyline as for such a relatively short book.
The only thing I don't like is the cover - the guy in the photo doesn't look like Oliver in the least!!! That's why it's a 4-star instead of a 5-star read.
In a world where slavery still exists in the 21st century, 18 year old Oliver gets separated from his slave mom and sister to be trained and sold as a body slave. The man who buys him is a rich entrepreneur who already has several slaves in his household acting as cook, maid and chauffeur.
Being gay, Oliver finds his 'master' rather attractive, but his life turns into a nightmare when the master treats Oliver like an object, requesting him to be ready for sex at all times. Getting raped again and again over months becomes Oliver's status quo, but one day, the master's son returns home from a trip to Europe after his college graduation.
Ben is different than his father and it's the moments when Ben 'borrows' Oliver only to give him a break from his dad's violence, that Oliver first learns to trust a free man.
It's a rather unusual love story between Ben and Oliver. It's unintentionally kinky with Oliver having sex with the father AND the son (though not at the same time at least). And I did wonder a bit about both Oliver and Ben falling in love with each other.
Sure Oliver is hot and gym shaped as a body slave, but a guy who always says 'yes' and never talks back at you, how can you seriously fall in love with him? And Oliver, as a slave, would not have had the option to not be in love with Ben anyway. The author tried to address this at the very end to make their happy ending more plausible, but I wasn't completely sold on it.
However, my main issue was clearly the amount of hate that this story built up. By the end of the story, Oliver's master had proven to be such a monster that I would not have minded Oliver murdering him. And I do not think that the guy got what he deserved here, nor did Ben confront his dad in a way that the situation would have warranted, so the ending left me a bit disappointed.
Other than that it was a solid story and I'm happy for the way it turned out for Oliver. 3.5 stars!
Re-Read - and I actually am finishing the rest of the stories I love AU Slave stories - this was good. The conclusion was too rushed to do a 5 star rating, but I certainly felt for the slave and it had enough description that things were not sugar coated. I'm certainly interested in reading the next one!
What a great, great book and even greater writer. I loved this to bits. No complaints. Highly recommended. God, Oliver is the sweetest boy in the world. I love him.
I should have never started this. Totally feel disgusted by the content of being a slave and having to 'endure'...
I can't necessarily say that it's bad writing but I definitely HATE this world. How to move on to a happy ending? The obvious answer is for dad to kick it.. But no, end up with some convoluted way of forcing Ben to take over and keep Oliver a slave in Ben's hands.
This is where the story line becomes rushed and ran over to GIVE that happy ending. Logically the ONLY thing that would have resulted in them being together WAS a death and ... wait probably repeating myself here now.
This was a pretty good story about a body slave, Oliver, who fell in love with his master's son, Ben. I liked both Oliver and Ben. Ben was horrified and ashamed that his father owned slaves and longed for the day when the practice would be abolished. Ben did everything he could to give the slaves who worked for his father the best life possible. Oliver was resigned to a life of slavery, but he couldn't deny his attraction to Ben who treated him so kindly. I liked the ending and look forward to reading more in the series.
Review tomorrow when I'm coherent. Until then, I liked it and can't wait for the next.
Okay, so it's longer after the fact than it should be for me to review this. I know I shouldn't like this sort of a book with slaves. I disagree with the concept entirely, but this is fiction, it has a fantastical element, and it's escapism.
But again, fiction. And I knew that going into the book so I won't review the book on hating the world. While the world Cayto has crafted is terrible, she crafts it well. I enjoyed the developing relationship between Oliver and Ben and the struggles they had because of their roles in life.
The book doesn't have a perfect ending, but it has a happy ending for the world that is created. Ben and Oliver can be together, but there are rules that will govern their relationship. It's sad, but at the same time hopeful because of the promises made and kept.
And yes, I will read the next book in the series. I enjoy the author's writing style and her well-crafted, if horrific, worlds.
In an alternatie universe in which the U.S. still has slavery, I cannot see how Channing Tatum would be making movies. The author should consider the consequences for any country - even in an alternate universe - for continuing this practice both in economic and geopolitical terms when it has been outlawed elsewhere.
I usually don't read slave fics because the idea of it is so fucking disgusting and I can't deal with it. But, having read some of this authors other work, I decided to see what she would do with it. The writing was pretty good, maybe a little less so towards the end, and the characters were good.
The world building could have been fleshed out a little more to really highlight the economic benefits (ugh) and consequences of slavery in the modern world, especially in a world where some countries have outlawed it and some haven't. Where does the US, as a slave nation, stand compared the rest of the world? Does the US have the same allies? How does it affect relations with, for example, a non slave nation Canada? Does anything change? It's not the point of the story, but it would have been interesting to know regardless.
I felt sorry for Oliver and I was hoping throughout the story that Ben would find a way to get him away from his father. I guess my biggest complaint is that Oliver really should have been set free at the end. The whole Oliver can only be set free after 20 years thing threw me a bit. I get it was the dad being vindictive, but why 20 years? Why not 10? Why not at all? His motivations for that weren't properly explained, and that whole plot point didn't sit right with me. I'm glad that Ben doesn't treat him like a slave, but I would have liked this a lot better if they had ended up on equal ground. But that's just my personal preference.
I really enjoyed this book. While every now and then I love the hardcore punishments in a book, I didn't feel like it belonged here and I would have liked to see the softer punishments used like spanking and paddling, as I feel it brings on another level of feelings. I realize they could not do this with the Master, but I would have liked to see it with Ben.
Anyways, no matter the punishments, I really really enjoyed this book.
This book is a very good illustration of Paul’s New Testament theological stance on how to live in a culture with legalized slavery and have socially enforced relationships with abusive masters, without actually treating other people as slaves or becoming an abusive master yourself, if outsider circumstances prevent you from freeing your slaves. People with privilege don’t live in a perfect world either and there is still room for them to make choices that show character and integrity. Privileged people can make the world a better place without being damned for every choice they ever make because they exist outside of the legally, economically, or socially oppressed group if choice. People who disagree with oppression achieve more success by working together, no matter who is privileged, who isn’t, and despite any specific types of oppression that are systemic or are sanctioned by others. Three stars for an excellent allegory.
Minus one star for Ben, who has all the power, allowing Oliver to self-harm during intimacy and taking advantage of him afterward.
Minus one star for normalizing pain during the final intimacy scene during the HFN after Oliver was traumatized most of the book by his Master’s arousal based on causing him pain, which pain never ever aroused Oliver at all. Oliver falls for Ben because Ben doesn’t hurt him. But suddenly in the last intimacy scene it’s super cool and presented as “spicy” that Oliver thinks his self induced pain that Ben pushes further out of spite, somehow heightens Oliver’s pleasure. This is totally out of character and fails to offer a true HEA pay off as the final scene in the book.
The only reason I didn’t take two stars for that final, botched, intimacy scene is that the New Testament allegorical illustration was unique among the fictional novels I’ve read and it was done really, really well.
I read this series a while ago when I was on a "slave fic" kick. I rediscovered it looking for something else, and decided to reread it. It was still a good read the second time around.
This is set in an alternative universe where everything is pretty much the same except slavery was never outlawed in the U.S. Interesting internal dialogue from both MCs about how to navigate their relationship in consideration of their respective status.
I really liked this story. I just wish it was longer, that there was more time for Ben and Oliver’s relationship to develop. I wish we got to see Ben freeing Oliver, and Oliver working on reprogramming his mindset from a lifetime of slavery
There was a lot to like with this book, but I didn't like how simplified and predictable the characters and their relationships were for the most part. Master always bad. Master's son always good. Ashlar bored.
I'll be honest, I'm kind of embarrassed by the fact I read this story. I was just intrigued by the idea of a body slave. I mean, was that a thing? Is this a whole genre that I've somehow missed? I don't know... But I had to find out more.
I will say that my interest in this story grew as it went on, and when it became about more than uncomfortable sex scenes, I actually didn't mind it. But there was an awful lot of sex. It was forced sex, but it wasn't exactly rape, because Oliver was a body slave and that was his job... it confused my feelings, and I still can't decide whether it was really rape or not.
Regardless of all that, there was a love story included and that sweetened the story. Ben was kind and he looked at Oliver like he was more than a sex toy. I was left feeling happy for Oliver.
There's something about this author's books, they're too addictive. Once I start I must keep going, and I'm glad I ended up liking this one.
The plot is simple, Oliver is a slave who is bought by a master at 18 years old. As expected, this man turns out violent and uses him as punching back, while abusing him continously since slavery is still legal in this universe. Things change when the man's son arrives, Ben, and he becomes infactuated with Oliver.
I think what surprised me the most about the book is how it is aware of the power imbalance between the couple, and that it's hard to tell between the lines of gratitude and love coming from Oliver's position. I liked that Ben accepted that and assured Oliver it'll be alright if . It's not a perfect HEA for me under such circumstances, but I prefer it that way: the idea of living in the present.
Lastly, I wanted to mention that even as someone who isn't into instalove/instalust, which is close to what Ben felt when he first saw Oliver and viceversa, this author does her magic and keeps the whole thing somewhat believable. I believe the whole thing about Ben's father was rushed and solved conveniently, but I still had a great time, it's why my final rating is 3.5 stars. I'll be reading the rest of the series soon!

18-year-old Oliver has recently become of age to be a pleasure slave. In an alternate universe very similar to our own about 200 years ago, people are bought and sold as slaves and forced to do what ever their masters require of them including sexual practices. Oliver has just been bought as a pleasure slave to a wealthy man and all he hopes for is someone to love him however his master is cruel and only interested in using him as a hole. Oliver however is a very well taught slave and excepts his position in life amazingly well… But of course he's brainwashed into thinking he exists solely for the pleasure of others and is entitled to nothing himself. At one point it made me cry when he belittled himself so much thinking himself just a slut and that it was OK. It is hard to think that this really happened in history at one time in our culture and in others in the. When Ben, The master's son arrives Oliver is immediately attracted to him both physically and for his warm and caring personality. Ben does not believe in slavery and is also immediately attracted to Oliver. According to their customs slaves and freemen don't mingle in society and definitely don't fall in love with each other. Therefore all our two characters can do is yearn for each other at a distance. This book makes a powerful commentary on the use of slaves in our society. People were brainwashed into believing they had no purpose other than what they were told they should do by their masters. Even when allowed a certain amount of freedom they weren't able to handle it. Very sad that we were once like this and it probably still goes on in the world in various places. I greatly recommend this book and will surely read the others in the series.
It Needed More! This is my first Samantha Cayto and I can read her again if she gives me a longer story with more world building. True the story has been done before. I just needed a lot more, more, more. Would I read book #2? I don't know. Maybe.
