There's No One Like Jesus

Rate this book
No one book, or even all books together, can tell fully the greatness of Jesus Christ.

While that is true, we can still point to the things that God has revealed in His Word. He is far greater than our greatest imaginations. He is fully God but also fully man. He not only created the universe, but He also holds it all together. He is both the sacrifice for our sins and our Great High Priest. He is ever the Pioneer, leading the way.

Do we look for a love beyond full human comprehension? There is no one like Jesus in His love.Do we look for a power that can not only change us, but also change society? There is no one like Jesus in what He can do.Do we look for one who knows the future and will lead us into the future? Jesus is the only one who can do that.Jesus surpasses the greatest human beings in His character traits. He excels in all His ministries. He is unique from whatever perspective we look at Him. Here is a person who will never disappoint and will never bore us. He is new even though He is eternal.

If you want an anchor for all of life, Jesus is the only one dependable. There is no one more exciting, no one more wonderful, and nothing more beautiful than Jesus. Jesus is everything you will ever need, and He is more than everything you could possibly desire. He is “all in all” in one person!

There's No One Like Jesus will help readers focus on all the attributes of Jesus' character and will make Him come alive so that readers better understand the majesty, nature, and character of Jesus.

Graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a BA degree in 1957. My major was history with a minor in speech. In 1960 I graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a BD degree. After pastoring churches in Oklahoma for 6 years I was appointed as a missionary to Japan by the International Mission Board, SBC. After completing formal language school, I moved to Hokkaido where I served until 1999.

Since retiring I have been taking short term mission trips to different countries in Africa, Asia, Brazil, and Cuba. I usually teach two classes in the Leadership Development Institutes, Lifestyle Evangelism and the Preeminence of Christ. In the First Baptist Church of Purcell I serve as the organist, sing in the choir, and sometimes play the piano.

This book is amazing!

If you know Jesus, then this book is for you. If you understand His beauty, Godhead, Majesty, yet manhood, then this is for you.

The book reads like a prayer, or a written song of praise. The writing is elegant, simple, clear, compelling, yet pregnant with truth. The Holy Spirit within me murmurs "Amen, Amen" as I read.

The principles are simple. Not mysterious at all. I find myself nodding as I read, thinking, "yes, yes, yes, I knew this". Yet there are other things. Things I knew, and know, but had never considered. Statements of Christ that are obviously true, yet had never scampered across my mind until Blake penned them. I love it when someone led by the Spirit reveals something that is so obviously true, yet had been previously outside my view, outside my thoughts, and therefore had been inaccessible to me.

If you love truth, and if the Holy Spirit indwells you, then you will probably enjoy basking in this book, and glorifying in our Savior.

Yet this book is not for everyone. If you do not know Jesus, you may find it repetitive. If you have not experienced His glory, you may find it too gushing with praise.

Imagine a man married to the most beautiful, attractive, loving and giving woman. He pours forth her praise daily. Words of praise and admiration intersperse each statement he makes. Those that know her nod and agree. Her children laugh and love their father's praise of their mother, and love to hear her attributes. Yet others are cool. Some are impressed by his love. Others admire his love for her. Others are a little jealous of it. Others suspicious of it, thinking no woman can be so fine. Others resent it, don't accept it, are offended that he would affront them with praise of one that makes them feel less praiseworthy.

In the same way, if you do not know or love Jesus, then this book will be a mild curiousity at best, an offense at worst. Yet if you do, and if the Holy Spirit indwells you, then I imagine you will be nodding, smiling, and feeling at ease, comforted, assured as you praise our God with Blake in this beautiful, gushing book of worship for the Son of God, our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

Bask in our Savior. Savor His beauty and majesty. Absorb the truths of Jesus Christ' magnificence thru the pen and heart of Blake Western.

As I read Blake Western’s There’s No One Like Jesus, I found his writing style hard to define. Some write with an academic tone, some with a devotional tone, and others with an exhortational tone. I finally concluded his writing style is in a “worshipful-tone.” It is very unique! Throughout, I found myself desiring to worship and pray to Jesus.

Another aspect of the book I enjoyed was how well-researched it is. There are tons of wonderful quotes about Christ. Consider a few:

“He is as truly God as if He were not a man, and yet as completely and perfectly man as if He were not God.”
Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Many teach¬ers of the world have tried to explain everything—they have explained little or nothing. Jesus explained little and changed ev¬erything. Jesus changes everything He touches. Call Him a man and you will have to change your ideas of what a man is; call Him God, and you will have to change your ideas of what God is. He is the one figure in history that is not local or national. He is the universal Christ. All nations feel at home with Him when they really know Him.”
E. Stanley Jones

“You can no more add anything to Him than you can add something to the sky. He pushed every good trait of human character to its utmost limit. His forgiveness was unbounded, His generosity was untiring, His patience illimitable, His wisdom was unfathomable, His kindness was interminable, His faith removed mountains, His hope had no shadow in it, His love was infinite.”
Dr. Charles Jefferson

There’s No One Like Jesus is essentially a Christological book; however, it is not written for scholars or academics but for worshipers. In twenty chapters, Blake considers various Christological topics such as Christ’s deity, his humanity, his work in creation, his names, his rule, his intercession in heaven, and ultimately his return, among other things. If you want to see and understand Christ in all his splendor, please read There’s No One Like Him. There is something especially delightful about this book!

This simple book is simply amazing! It is not long and each chapter is divided by a different attribute of Jesus. Reading the book by itself will inspire you and lift you up but I could see this book being used in a Bible study group or as a basis for a series of Sunday sermons. This book explains in easy terms many characteristics of Jesus. As a Christian seeking to be more like Jesus, this book may hold a few ideas for you. It can be read in a day, this small book packs a powerful punch! I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion,

I Won this book in one of the Goodreads Giveaways and have been totally hooked! As someone who takes great interest and studies Theology- i really enjoyed reading about the ways in which Jesus is simply great. This came at a stressful time in my life and has been a God send. it has calmed me down and allowed me to give God more time out of my day- no matter how bad it has been! Thank you so much! x

I didn't learn anything new and I'm not sure that this book could convince anybody of the uniqueness of our Lord Jesus, but it is good to read or hear some things we know again and again.

Blake western examines different aspects, qualities and characteristics of Jesus, always emphasizing that He is so great, amazing and surprising that it is impossible to fully describe or even understand Him.

Not all chapters may appeal to everybody, but sure enough you will find something that really will touch your heart.

For Christians it is a book that reminds us who we are following and what a privilege it is to be in Christ and He in us. Sometimes we forget who is with us when everyday life distracts and frightens us.

This book will lead you straight into worship.

This is a very nice little book written by a missionary and former pastor. Each chapter features one of the characteristics of Jesus that exhibit his deity and worthiness of adoration. The author’s love and enthusiasm for Jesus is clear in every sentence. It’s difficult to not be excited about Jesus as you explore this book. Even the most experienced theologians will probably find a new way to look at Jesus in this easy-to-read book. It would be good for anyone, but especially for new Christians and those considering Christianity.

I found this book to be most rewarding because it put all the attributes of Christ together in an easy to understand summary. Everything you need to know is there and it made me so grateful that I have so great a Redeemer. Thank you Mr. Western for writing this book. I give God the glory for giving you such a talent.

A wonderful collection of poetic prose, descriptions of the greatest man, the only God-man who ever lived, Jesus Christ. Each chapter describes Jesus regarding a specific characteristic in beautiful language. “There's no one like Jesus in His deity,” There's no one like Jesus in His humanity,” and “There's no one like Jesus in His Miracles,” are only the first three of twenty such essays, each with superlative language describing—but always with the caveat that there is no way anyone can ever fully describe—the object of our faith. The most surprising chapter for me was “There's No One Like Jesus in His Freshness.”

I appreciated his easy-to-understand language, not academic at all, perfect for the average Christian who wants to draw even closer to their Lord without needing to pull out the concordance or the Bible dictionary to understand it.

There were several nuggets of application I was able to draw out, though that is not the purpose of this book. The Holy Spirit still used it to speak to me in my life right where I am at this specific moment.

This is the kind of book that is perfect for the dark hours of the night when you wake up from a nightmare or when you're in too much pain to get back to sleep. Filling your head with Jesus calms you and reminds you what is eternal and what is temporary. It did for me.

Favorite quotes:
“When we talk about Jesus, we exhaust all of the superlative words in a language.” (p.10)

“There is nothing lacking or unbalanced in Him. We cannot say that He needed more of this characteristic or more of that characteristic. He is the perfect man... Jesus is what God intended man to be.” (p.19)

“Jesus never did miracles like a magician does, simply to get attention... There was a restraint and selectivity in His miracles.” (p.25-6)

“...No soul has ever found it to be monotonous to walk with Him or talk with Him or think of Him or sing of Him; He is perpetually breaking in upon the soul with new surprises...” [quoting G. Campbell Morgan] (p.107)

Blake Western was a member of my home church.  I knew him as a particularly godly man, and he served as a mentor to many of the young men.  Sadly, not to me.  One of my bigger regrets is that I did not go on any of the the trips with Western.  When I found out he was also an author, I lost no time in picking up his book.   There's No One Like Jesus makes good on its title.  This is a doxology of Jesus told in Western's modest tone.  Blake Western may mentor me yet.

I feel guilty not to give a better note to such a book. Its author wrote it to do something good. But is it enough to list Jesus' qualities to make a book interesting?
I've been raised Catholic, so there is no animosity on my side. But if you want to convince people, you need more than just quoting what other authors have said or sung.
If you want to answer the questions a lot of Christians have about the scriptures -you know, where was Jesus born, why did Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem, did he come from David's house, what happened to Jesus between 12 and 30, who are the different Marys named in the new testament, did he have siblings, etc, you must at least ask them and look for answers.
This book is a book of praise, with a few points I would dare to discuss. Jesus wept when Lazarus was dead, out of compassion for the other mourners, but not when Lazarus was alive again.
The biggest problem with this book is the existence of misery and unhappiness on earth, the suffering and need for two human beings out of three. How does it work with the joy here announced?

Won this Through Goodreads First Read.

With only 20 chapters There's No One Like Jesus was a fast paced, quick read.

Filled with messages of hope and over flowing with hymns, poems, quotes and bible passages. This book won't appeal to everyone.

I have read quite a few religious books of late and this one just didn't measure up for me. I found it repetitive and a little boring in some places. I also found myself reading things in this book that I have read previously. I feel that the author didn't really have a voice. He was being drowned out by all the other authors he was quoting.

I would probably only recommend this book to a handful of people.

I was excited to read this book as I won it from a goodreads giveaway. If you are looking for a book about the Person of Jesus Christ that is easy to read then this is it. Book seeks to increase faith in Jesus Christ, and reassures. It is probably not a book for people who are new to new to Christianity, I would recommend this book to those who want to re-discover a passion and love for Jesus.

I received a free copy of this book as a Goodreads giveaway.

I started reading this book as an agnostic and ended it in the same state. I found it a difficult read and overall it failed to register with me. Maybe to those for whom religion has a firmly established place in their life, it will be more meaningful and better appreciated.

Pleased I read it but for me it was only OK.
